I think this is the first time I’ve written a review for an app literally ever since getting my first iPhone in 2011. Golf odyssey reminds me of the simple genius of early mobile games. It actually engages with you. It’s addictive but not ruining addictive. It’s relaxing. It’s challenging. In a sea of poorly designed games with ads every .2 seconds, golf odyssey stands out. It’s been a very long time since I’ve come across such a high quality game. I was happy to pay a couple of bucks not to watch ads for an extra ball or a second chance. I think that’s why I made it through all the available worlds in about a week. I feel ambivalent about a permanent extra ball being attached to the purchase. On the one hand, it feels like pay for purchase play. On the other hand, it is a nice little bonus with getting rid of the ads. I think it would be cool to be able to toggle it on and off. I’m surprised there’s only 5 worlds so far! The game deserves more. In the meantime, I wish there were achievements to give the past worlds replay value. Like personal records of most hole in ones, least balls used, max hole in one streak, number of times world was completed, number of times a certain level was completed, etc. That way, you can take the time to carefully and properly develop future worlds and someone like me who got ahead can replay the old ones to bump up their stats. Thank you for the fun!
This game was precisely made for errors and mistakes to be made. With that being said the first few courses were fairly easy. The first course, the general basic entry to the game then eases harder and harder courses and holes upon those course. After completion of the third course you stumble upon so said fourth course. Those course really determines if you quit the game or not, countless times I didn’t think I’d beat it. Sooner or later yesterday night I beat it. You would think world five to be impossible, but honestly it was a bummer, less challenging more of a gimme. Although course four really made me question why I played the game, I did enjoy the challenge and the focus it had. Looking for to future updates if any.
This games gorgeous! The music and art are lovely. The gameplay is addicting as well. I opted to pay 1.99 to get the extra life and extra chances after failing. The first three worlds were relatively easy, but my goodness the 4th world is brutal! After attempting it some 100 times I decided to stop. It’s a shame cause I really enjoyed it, but I had a hard time improving my shots from attempt to attempt. If I had a note, I think an option to see what your last shot was, both the strength and the position, that way you can judge your shot based on how well you did last hit. Additionally I think a way to permanently increase the amount of balls you have would be nice, maybe add an option to rent for a low amount, or buy for a very expensive price, and increase the price for each ball. Overall it’s a great game that would like to keep playing, but I can’t seem to crack world 4.
The game entices new players with relatively* intuitive gameplay. The first couple worlds are simple enough to play casually whenever/wherever. The third world requires a bit more of your attention. The fourth world is somewhat of a monster. You may beat it your first try by accident, or you may try for years to no avail. The fifth world is a satisfying "gimme" to reward you for climbing through the trenches that are the 4th world. *The power meter only gives you a rough estimate in the later worlds. I recommend controlling your power by going from one power to the next to find the lower and upper bounds for different amounts of power. Then pick one and find the right angle!
I like the smooth and calm atmosphere of this game. After reading the other reviews, I kind of agree with some of them. About maybe adding achievements, for like one-holing with max shooting power for example; rewarding the player with an extra ball for a one-hole, etc. You did mention you were working on extra features in an update, so take your time. Highly recommend this game. If I may ask a few questions, I’m an aspiring developer, and I’m still figuring everything out. Can you tell me how long this game took to make? And what engine you used? Thank you!
The dark souls of mobile gold games. Must clear 20 consecutive levels to clear first stage. I would have made them separate completions at first but gee whiz this game takes off the gloves when you first start playing it. The brutality of the game is in the little beacons of hope that the second chance lifelines give you, but then it crushes you on level 7 or 13 when you inevitably fail. I like it though. I would suggest this game to someone I hate, and get to hold over them that I made it to level 20 on the first world.
I love this game, I just found it the other day and decided to try it out. Turned out to be now one of my favorite mobile games! It’s so relaxing with the background music they have implanted in this game and I highly recommend it especially to people with anxiety or get headaches frequently. I go to play the game and the music is so relaxing , no frustration at all if you mess up on the levels just serenity in general. I’ve even just turned the game on to hear the music. Highly recommend this game!
The difficulty is pretty brutal, even with the ads they give you for perks my record is 13. That being said the game is chill. It’s a fun golf physics toy with a nice aesthetic. One request would be to make the power meter a bit more legible. It’s hard to tell exactly what I’m doing with such a minimal design. An extra ball for every hole-in-one could help with difficulty too. For a zen-like game, it would be nice to be able to progress through it, rather than quitting in frustration. Regardless, I like the game.
It’s like limbo but golf and slightly more color of an evening sunset with relaxing music. That being said I was so tempted to absolutely bash this game because of abusive relationship with ads. It’s absurd how bad it is, the Dev must be a greedy individual . It’s strange because greed don’t match the game . You’d think it be slightly more layer back with other ways of paying for the game than 7 to 10 ADS per 20 holes and that’s if your at least decent at the game.
Simple game of hitting a ball into a hole. The relaxing music helps you not lose your mind from failing so many times. This game only gives you one extra single swing and one extra life. After that you got to start over from hole 1. If you pass all 20 holes and unlock a new course, it’s really rewarding since it’s pretty hard to do so. Get this game and you’ll most likely find yourself coming back to it from time to time.
I finally beat this game and did so without paying anything so I feel I can write a review. Simple mechanics. Extremely unforgiving gameplay. You gotta beat 20 consecutive holes with 2 balls per hole to progress. Found the third course to be easier than the second. Maybe I just got better tho. You have to switch the music off every time you load the game tho which should be an easy fix. Add more courses, only get ads that don’t stop your music, and fix the bug and then it’s a 5-star.
I installed the game and uninstalled in less than 5 minutes. First off, you start the game off with just two balls. That's two balls per hole. If you can't make the hole in two balls, you have the option to watch an ad for a third ball or watch an ad for a second chance. Like really? OK you give us options to spend coins on more balls so we don't have to keep watching ads but sheeesh man come on, this is disgusting. Almost all of the reviews I read here failed to mention the ads or lack of balls so I'm not sure if they're dropping cash right off the bat or if they're perfect players. Rubbish game.
I really like the mechanics and the aesthetic. The difficulty is great but I would like it if new courses were longer and you had more then two shots because now I’m on the third course and it feels like more of the same.
Fun and relaxing game. Kind of frustrating how predatory the in-app purchases and ad watching is. To have more than two tries on each hole you either have to watch a bunch of ads or spend $2/game to get enough balls to win. I would like it more if there was more freedom to play without shilling over money all the time.
I’ve basically finished the game I have completed all the worlds and got to the elite daily challenge and the game is still fun. I have played this game mostly ever day and I will keep it this way. Can’t wait to the future for this game.
This game probably has the calmest theme song but it gets so infuriating at the later levels. I really do hope the random zoom levels werent intentional from the developers and would be fixed🗿
Don’t understand the bad reviews for this game. I’ve played golf games like this that force you to watch way more ads than this one does. Props to the developer for making this one portrait instead of landscape.
Game is fun overall but it’s really hard. 20 shots in a row with only two balls. Would be helpful if the balls you didn’t use in the previous levels roll over. For example if i make a whole in one in one shot the ball i didn’t use should be used in the level after.
In a time where everything is so complicated, a simple retro game of golf is just what's needed. This game combines the brutal mechanics of making you reset alongside some calm music and a beautiful scenery. If you're on the fence about downloading I highly recommend!
I feel like the game honestly needs some form of tutorial no matter what. Also the physics are bad honestly. The ball does not roll once it hits the ground. The whole aiming system needs some form of chance since aiming is insanely hard to get all levels right in 2 tries. How do you even get coins? Overall it could be better but there are many flaws and it is confusing to get started
really awesome game. would be very cool if there were different types of golfballs that had different characteristics. like a bouncy one, a slippery one, a heavy one. I highly recommend this game
Bro who are the people behind this beautiful master piece of a game it’s amazing simplistic and awesome to look at I hope to see a stary night type theme hahaha amazing keep it up guys celebrate you deserve it 🤜🏻🥂🍺🍻
This game would be fun if you could keep extra ball slots or at least started with one more, but instead they want you to watch a million ads. Can’t believe this shameless dev made this, at least other games actually give you decent rewards for watching an ad. What a waste of a decent game.
The game is dope, but something I think that could make it better is when you get a hole in one, the leftover ball adding to the balls for the next hole. That way there’s more stake(and incentive) to get it in one shot
They only give you two try’s to make it in the hole and if you don’t, you have to restart the entire set. If you want an extra try you have to watch an ad. Very annoying game if you aren’t willing to watch ads every 5 seconds to advance. Should just sell the game ad free.
Seems like a cancer on many of the golf and billiards game genres. The strength meter is useless. This game will leave you guessing what power level you hit the ball with. Not hard, it’s easy to use a percentage as your power level and a simpler UI. Sometimes, retro for the sake of retro doesn’t look good. Some retro text of a 50% shot power instead of who knows what 2 dots does would have made for a far more usable game.
I was really enjoying this game and it’s simple concept but recently it started forcing ads every time your game ends and to me forced ads are just a deal breaker. Too bad because I was enjoying it
What an amazing and calming experience. Though it is challenging, it is equally rewarding with it’s calming music and visually stunning levels. You should definitely download!!!
This game seems like fun, but you have to pay or watch a ton of ads if you want to play for more than a few minutes. I’m not sure if it’s worth spend money on, and can’t progress far enough in the game to really find out.
This game is so good but dont spend any of your money on it. You get a new course every 3 months and it just isnt worth the in game currency. Otherwise one of the more addicting games i’ve played.
Everything is good except you only have two balls and when you run out you have to watch ads. It’s just to much. Put the ads elsewhere for backgrounds or ball colors.
I accidentally spent 500 dollars buying in-game currency
I thought the option to buy coins was a cool glitch i could exploit, but it turns out it was charging me on the credit card that i had to enter the info for
