Get. This. App. Now.

If you EVER have to jump on a Zoom, Google Meet, or do any tuts or explainer videos, THIS IS A MUST HAVE APP. How many times have you had to jump through hoops with PhotoBooth, hoping feverishly that you can check your appearance before that meeting? It's not fun. Besides, that whole clunky process is eliminated BEAUTIFULLY with the elegant, essential app known as Hand Mirror. Hats off to the dev for making this app (which should be standard with all Macs) available. With it, you can easily check your mic level, appearance, and have a useful variety of window options. VERY handy for tutorials, video reviews, explainer vids, and meetings. Works perfectlcly with Apple Silicon on MacBook Pro!

How is this not standard with all Macs?

This is one of those tools that you won't know you need until you've ever been stuck in a situation where you needed it. Long story short, I am a pharmacy student that occasionally has to record a presentation as an assignment with a live recording of my face somewhere in the corner of the presentation. I've tried everything from OBS to Camtasia (great software, just either takes hella time to set up or are very pricy). This has to be easiest option to make sure you have a recording of yourself and your presentation!

Very useful! (perhaps buggy)

This is a great utility app that I use to a) help make sure my appearance is presentable before video calls and b) to adjust the things in the background that I stage before the same video calls. I found that the app couldn't access my secondary camera (Logitech USB cam) after waking my computer, though it could show the built-in camera on my MBP. After a few days of not caring, I noticed that Hand Mirror was taking up 5 GB of memory. I quit the app and relaunched and it seems to be fine and can access the external webcam now.

This app is honestly so critical

This app has a 2-second use case in my day, but it's essential! It's just a keyboard shortcut away, and it's there for you – just before you hit that "join" button and barrel into your zoom meeting – for a quick 2-second check to make sure the lighting isn't making you look liker a murderer, you have a thing in your teeth, you forgot to wear a shirt that day, etc. ....I only use it in moments of haste, and though it's function is relatively simple, it's never failed me. The description doesn't even sell its best feature - always on top

The best thing about this app is that you have the option to keep your camera always on top. That means if you click on another app, it doesn't steal the focus and bury the camera feed behind the app. This is useful for those of use who want to record or stream video showing our face as well as our screen. In my case, I make a lot of tutorials and videos for my job and I like to be able to show my face and the screen at the same time.

Go to app before you start a meeting

Outstanding performance and simplicity. This is my go to app to do a quick mirror check before starting an important video call. This has helped me catch times when for whatever reason the facetime camera becomes unresponsive. I would have blamed Zoom, if not for this app. Other times, it simply helps you to adjust and find that optimal lighting condition with less glare - helpful for folks who wear glasses and sit near large windows.

It shows me what I look like

With a single tap. I get to see what I look like to people on the other end of a call. Before, I would attempt to launch Photo Booth and launch Photoshop instead because Spotlight Search is a mess. I proceed to wait while it launches in order to close it. Try again and maybe get it right or spell out more of the word. Hand Mirror is a button under my camera system, OR the menubar. It's the GOAT. Really is. No doubt about it.

almost perfect

the interface and ease of use are incredible here,, exactly what i was looking for. my only caveat is that i use iGlasses to zoom in and crop my webcam stream (my logitech webcam has a wide enough lens to fit an entire conference table in the shot, so for at-home use, editing the stream through a virtual camera is necessary) so i really wish Hand Mirror could access the virtual camera stream.... this might be impossible because of Apple's 'Hardened Runtime' 'Library Validation' open-source killer//atrocity,,,, but hopefully not and this can be a feature in a future update ! <3

Outstanding App

Hats off to Rafael Conde for an outstanding app. It does what it is suppose to do and it does it as well as can be. And, it's kept up to date and fixed. Like recently Rafael discovered you could open a window outside of the bounds of the screen. Who knew? I didn't! I agree with another poster, this app should be standard with all Macs! Huh. Just looked down and there was a review I did two years ago. I guess I really liked it then! Still do!

Indespensible app

We're on lots of video calls these days. Want to check out your lighting, your hair, your background, and your vibe before you get on a call? Click the Hand Mirror button and you're all set. Definitely worth the one-time purchase upgrade to pro, btw. I like to have the video preview directly underneath my camera so I know what that angle looks like. Gotta look my best.

Very Useful but with One Flaw

I use this app all the time and love the new icon for Big Sur. A issue i've noticed though is when switching between light and dark mode for macOS, the app randomly decides to trigger, but doesn't open the window. So what happens is my camera light turns on, and the app is actually open but the window doesn't show. It's oddly creepy to see the app randomly turn on, even though I know my feed isn't sent anywhere. A fix and its literally a perfect application. Thanks!

Useful, but a fix is needed...

This is a simple app to perform a simple task, and it delivers. Use it to set your camera up before a call, put your make-up on, whatever. Only gripe is that the launch at login feature does not work in Sonoma.... You can check the iption as many times as you want, but it never gets added to the launch at login list. Please fix this!

Super handy in the age of WFH

Fantastic example of a useful utility app. Does one thing, does it well, and gets out of the way. It lets you switch between cameras if you have multiple, remembers which one you've selected, and even lets you choose the size of the preview. Widescreen views are shown, unlike with Photo Booth, so you can make sure that you are aware of what is going to potentially be seen in a call. 👌

Does What it Says, But I Worry over Unlimited Camera Access with NO guarantees

It does exactly what it says, which is to provide a convient mirror image. However, with absolutely NO guarantees about security, access or who they might sell that access to, I find myslef incredibly skeptical about their intent. A simple statement concerning their motives, or assuring users that they're trust won't be betrayed (after all, who DOESN'T trust FREE apps!) would be more reassuring. Zoom provides the opportunity to test your camera beforehand, and it doesn't take much time to adjust your look or to close the video connection momentarily, so it's not like this is an essential application. What's worse, this was apparently written on the fly from an individual with no prior stadning in the Mac community. So, having tried it, I'm immediately deleting it (after permanently restricting access)!

Convenient - Must Have!

This app is great for those online meetings you need to take, and want to get a look at yourself before you join the meeting. It's so useful for many reasons, I've had this app on my MacBook Pro for about 3 yrs now and like others have stated, I don't know why the Macs don't have this installed already. Thank you Hand Mirror, keep up the great work :)

Terrific at what it does

I use this to check the setup of my cameras _before_ I enable them in we meetings. It's nice to know you don't need to fumble getting it centered, zoomed, well-lit, etc. I also use it while on web meetings with a different camera to check how I look or to aim the second camera (for example, to aim it on something I need to show on my actual desk). Excellent app: simple and good at what it does.

Works great! Missing app icon.

The app works as described. The only problem is that, even though the app is running, the icon is missing from the menu bar. So, I can't launch it normally. I have to search for and run the app from Spotlight, or launch it from the Applications folder. Then the image pops down from between the Apple and active application icon on the left of the menu bar. But I never see the app icon. Hopefully there a fix for this.

More than a Mirror

I use a video capture card that I need to monitor sometimes. I had been opening QuickTime Player and starting a movie recording to do that. It was super tedious. Then I wondered if there was a "mirror" app that would quickly let me see the video capture card input. Well this is it. And the fact that it is a menu bar app makes it so perfect!

No need to open Photo Booth!

Perfect functionality. No ads, no purchase, just an easy turn on the camera. I was using Photo Booth to do this before meetings, make sure the background looked good and my hair was on straight :P. Now I can just click up in the menu bar, it's handy during all this work from home time.

Excellent app! Essential tool for screenflow

Addresses a feature gap in Screenflow by allowing us to monitor the composition of multiple Web Cams. Logitech's viewers are terrible. Screenflow has one monitor that is small and only shows one webcam. Could this be licensed to Telestream, Logitech, Zoom et al as the go-to monitor? It's simple and elegant. Just setup a Hotkey and you get big, beautiful output.

Simple, almost does exactly what I need

The only problem I have with this very simple adn useful app is that I cannot change the camera source. It's stuck on my laptop camera. I see the USB camera as available in the pulldown, and can change to it, but the source doesn't actually switch to show the USB camera input.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I used to be one of those users mentioned in the description of the app who was always opening Photo Booth before my video meetings to make sure I looked ok and everything behind me was in place. This app simplified that task for me! I never thought to look for an app like this, but I'm so glad I found it. Great job dude!

simple, good, useful

check your hair before going on the call. see what your office looks like through the cameras "eyes". Notice those little things that have just become part of the room before getting on an important call.

SO USEFUL

I love this thing, either for checking up before meetings or classes, or being able touch up my appearance real quick in class. It's so useful and comes in handy all the time, even with the free version. Could not recommend it enough!!

Easy and seamless solution

This app has made it so easy to see if my camera is working right before a call, or to make sure my background/appearance is what it should be. Download this app on every computer I get, highly recommend.

Great little app

Great little utility. One click for checking your video. Two clicks to change cameras. Click away to close. Just what I needed. One feature request. I also could use a full-screen mirror. I wonder if that would make sense in this utiltity. Thanks!

Super useful lightweight app

I have been using this app for almost 2 years now. It is really helpful in having a quick look at how I'm looking and how the lighting and angles are right before joining a meeting or a video call. Highly recommended!

this is not getting uninstall

i tried to uninstall. My screen time shows it is active 24hr for 5 days but I force quite it and delete it few days back. I cant able to remove this app from screen time. I tried reinstall and delete it but didn't work, screen time of this app still increases. I am scared if this app is spying on me or not. GIVE A SOLUTION ASAP.

My pre-meeting ritual

It's very helpful to just check my appearance and what is visible in the background before joining a meeting. I use it to touch up my makeup too. I didn't give it 5 stars because sometimes it disappears from my macbook toolbar and I have to go find the application and then it'll appear again

Perfect camera check pre-zoom meetings

I'm always worried how I look before a meeting, and this little widget at the top of my screen is always easily accessible as a quick check for lighting and hair before I dive into a meeting.

Great, but needs two things...

First off, thanks for making a great free app. 1. Please allow saving of default preferred camera. I use my laptop with an external monitor, and that is the camera I want 90% of the time, not the laptop camera. 2. Can you find a way to allow the window to be centered under the camera lens? This is helpful for prefect grooming :-)

won't connect to phone!

Great app. Love it. But i'm so extremely frusterated that sometimes the camera connects to my phone and other times it doesn't. i wish i had the option to select which camera i want to use. specfically, when it doesn't connect to my phone

Simple to use.

Easy to move around the screen to a place where you can take a glance at how you are being seen. Or to preview again before returning to a meeting after a break, etc.

Great app

Nice app to quickly check you look or you background before starting a call. I had a creepy issue that the camera light woudl turn on even if the app wasn't active, but it looks like it was fixed.

Love the app, one new bug

Great, simple, appreciate the new features - but for me the camera view actually opens more slowly now, counter to the advertised improvement. Not sure why, just a heads up. The window pops up immediately but stays black for 1-1.5 seconds. Occurs on Macbook Pro with native webcam and on iMac with USB camera.

So useful!

I use this app often before getting on zoom calls. It also is great when I am rearranging my desk/office so I can test and see what the scene looks like behind me. It is never glitchy and is simple and perfect.

Can't get it to work with ZOOM

Nice app, but it doesn't seem to work with all apps like ZOOM. I purchased it thinking that the ZOOMING on my wide built-in camera will stay no mater whuch app I am using with my webcam, but when I open the ZOOM app, the zooming from this app are not there. It goes back to wide angle. I would it give a 5 star if I could find a way to do this.

Super cool and easy i like to use it whenevr im at school and need to do a quick checkup, super easy and its cheap and its only one clikc and i like how it doesnt take up ur whole screen just a little corner. i recommend getting it if you like looking at urself lol

Such a great app

This is so useful for making sure the camera is angled correctly and you look presentable before joining a meeting. I can't believe it's not already included with macs but this does the job perfectly

so close...

This app creates a pop up window that can not be dynamically resized. You choose between small, medium, large. Also the feed disapears when you clidk another application - even if you tell it not to in the settings. Bummed because none of the other apps like this even get to the point where they request camera access and show anything at all....

Fantastic!

I was looking for a lightweight basic camera viwer. My goal was to view video being streamed thru EpocCam running on an IOS device, work's like a charm. Now if had mic access it would be another level.

Who knew we'd all be using this every day?

I have been on my Zoom calls in the past week than in my previous… ever. I use Hand Mirror every time, or just if I want to make sure that I don't have CQH (that's "Crazy Quarantine Hair" obviously).

LIFE SAVER

Literally such a life saver when it comes to QUICKLY making sure I'm presentable for a video call. It's so complicated to check your camera in Teams but using Hand Mirror makes it so easy.

Nice dev. Great app.

Works great now with the latest fix. A app and dev. The "plus" has some nifty little tools in it, my favorite being the smart window for screen recordings. Works beautifully with continuity camera and my USB webcam alike.

Help! it hung my UI

I wish I could use this app but it behaves very badly on my machine. When I clicked on Hand Mirror Plus, the windmill started for about 30 seconds then stopped. The Hand Mirror Plus window still appears but doesn't appear in the menu bar or in Force Quit. When I clicked the red close button on the roque Hand Mirror Plus window. The same thing happened, It hung my UI. Every time I start it again, similar things happen, but slightly different. It still hangs my UI. Eventually Cmd Tab let me switch to a different app and then eventually I was able to get to Force Quit and finally it showed up in Force Quit. 16-in 2021 MacBookPro M1 Max 32 GB Ventura 13.4.1 External Display: Apple LED Cinema
