Pro: app seems to work ok, Kansas finally getting a little bit of technology with their system. Con: who thought a chatbot was the best way to pay online?!? First page lists all the vehicles to renew. So I click it and then it immedietely forgets the vehicles and asks me to enter in a PIN or plate number. Then asks a bunch of different questions. Guess what, if you have another vehicle you have to do it all over again. So whoever chose this: have you ever paid a bill anywhere else like this? Water, insurnace, invoices? If everywhere else in society has already figured out an easy invoice system why buck the trend and make us go through a chatbot?
I’ll admit I was super skeptical of a government app actually working. Well to my surprise...in the last few months I’ve used it twice. Once to get my RealID info started. I needed to go to the DMV anyways. And second...today, literally took 70 seconds to renew my registration and pay. Worked flawlessly. Yes I have one car. Yes I have had that car for 5 years. Yes I have the same insurance as last year. A lot of the “bad” reviews seem to be people who didn’t follow instructions or have a weird registrations...but for a regular ole Kansan like me. Worked perfectly. As for the “fees” or surcharges...welp ACH is $1 or you can always mail in a check. And new technology isn’t free. It has to be paid for somehow.
The app is worse than the mobile website. The iPhone 14 Pro was released nearly a year ago, but the app hasn’t been updated to support it. Text is blocked by the camera and some screens are impossible to go back because the back button is cut off in the corner. The app doesn’t even support swipe to go back! Additionally, the app makes it as difficult as possible to fill in information, such as adding a new credit card. On the mobile website, I can auto fill everything and use the camera to add a credit card or use one I have saved. It’s ridiculous that the app doesn’t have this functionality. Finally, it’s 2023 and there need to be more payment options. There are a multitude of reasons why people might need or want to use something other than a credit card that has to be manually added or a linked bank account. Apple Pay, PayPal, etc. are easier and quicker, plus have additional benefits beyond the current antiquated options.
The process is quick. Took less than 10 minutes for two vehicles. A lot quicker than driving to the county seat! Couple suggestions: -People are over dealing with bots. The app can ask the same questions but just present it to the user in a different format (so it doesn’t appear to be a bot). -I registered two vehicles, but the app only shows that I have one vehicle under vehicle renewal activity. It shows the last of the vehicles renewed. The receipt and documents section shows I paid for both, but the Home Screen with the pop up does not. -provide option to make the receipt and the renewal show as PDFs so it’s easy to save to phone, forward to family, etc. - Provide additional payment options such as PayPal, etc. Third party payment sources provide a layer of protection.
This is ridiculous! The app doesn’t fit comfortably on my iPhone screen (yet the app specs assure me that the app is compatible with my phone); I suspect this is the culprit of the difficulty that I’m having with maneuvering within the app. The app gave me trouble accepting my address (it wouldn’t allow me to view all that I typed) and finally it wouldn’t allow me to scroll down the page to finish my payment on the Payment Summary page! This app is not, quick, convenient, or easy to maneuver around. After fiddling with the app you might as well take the time to pay in person. I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone. Highly unsatisfied patron of this service.
I renewed the registrations for three vehicles in under 5 minutes using the mobile app. Simple interface, easy to navigate and was able to group them together with one payment. The best part, I completed it on a Wednesday afternoon and had my decals via mail by Friday! Highly recommend versus the old way of doing it.
This really beats going to the courthouse and taking time off to go. Although there’s a bit of a learning curve, paying online via this app is easy ONLY if your info hasn’t changed since last year and your payment method is legit. If you can’t figure out how to problem solve your way thru this app then you probably shouldn’t be driving either.
I’ve tried to use it four years in a row to renew my tags… I get to put in all the info and then it just becomes a white screen… I go in and talk to people about it and they just tell me to use the icon app to fix the problem… That’s like losing your phone in trying to track it down using Find My and it tells you to please use your phone to find the device you are missing…
This has to be the clunkiest app I’ve ever used. It must have been developed in a 6th grade technology class. Who wants to act like they’re texting someone to renew their tags??? The app also only lets you renew one tag at a time...that’s real convenient. I suppose this is so they can charge you their pointless taxes on top of the taxes you are already paying to get your tag in the first place. Should really be setup so you can load all of your vehicles then just checkout and pay once.
Usually apps like this are cumbersome, poorly designed, and difficult to use. This however has been an easy, seamless process and is honestly easier to use than the website. Well done.
This is the second year in a row this P.O.S app can’t find my information. I am unable to pay my taxes using the Internet like I have done for the last 10 years. Didn’t matter which way I tried to search for my renewal, something always prevented them from finding me. I suppose this is a good thing, too bad the cops can easily find me with a license plate reader. Oh by the way did you know if you pay in person it’s five bucks more.....hmmmm☹️
I lost my mailed paperwork with PIN. This usually results in me having to run downtown...not anymore! This chat bot process was super easy. I own two vehicles and was able to renew both by plate number in the same transaction without a hitch!
This app is really easy to use if, and only if, it can find your car. This is easy for folks who aren’t millennials/Gen Z that have to move every year while renting… also, don’t buy a car… even if they send you a registration renewal letter with a PIN for your new car registered in the state of KS for over 6 months, it STILL won’t work! I digress…
I was impressed by the ease of being able to renew online. I did the whole process on my iPhone for my two vehicles. Congratulations on a great process.
Worthless if you are doing anything other then a DL renewal
I needed to renew flatbed trailer tags NOPE. Can’t use this app for that. Apparently Kansas DL has no access to payment records for taxes on these things. You have to bring them in your receipt showing you paid Kansas. I needed to renew a CCL. NOPE. can’t do that either. They apparently don’t know if you were approved by KS to renew so you have to bring in paperwork to KS DL office that was sent to you by Kansas. You also can’t use it to get in queue for their Qless system for those two items. My only option was to do an appointment via the app which means waiting a day and then still had to check in and wait in line like I had done nothing. Appointment time came and went.
Had no trouble finding my vehicles and adding a payment method. Went to authorize the payment and it keeps saying something went wrong. This app is horrible. Go back to the drawing board. I know for a fact all my card info was entered correctly and tried entering it again and still didn’t work. Frustrating! I pay online every year and never had this much trouble.
I too was skeptical of a government app. I expected it to be clunky and hard to work with. All I did was order a birth certificate but let me tell you what, that was so seamless and smooth! Very impressive!
Renewing my vehicle tags took less than 5 minutes and I was very impressed with the iKan system. Saved me a trip to the DMV. Will be using this app from now on. Great job Kansas!
Used the app to get a birth certificate. Easy, user friendly, swift, and pleasant from start to finish. Would recommend this over VitalChek any day and twice on Sunday. Awesome app.
I used the app to order some family records and was astonished at how well it worked. The question answer flow was eerily intuitive and FAST! I wish Oklahoma had the same app. - Jealous on the southern border.
I love this app/ service. Going to the DMV/ county tax office is an awful experience. I just renewed registration for both my vehicles in 2-3 minutes. I wish I could do all my government interactions with this app.
When you create an account on the website and then try to get the app there is a struggle to get the proper passwords to sync up. Is it under Secretary of State? I’d it under Kansas? There is no way I’m going to be able to manually enter the password that my password app generated: &8@5?fgl68^{€+fTE34
Using the same information I use EVERYWHERE else and have for decades the app cannot identify me. SSN and DOB have not changed yet I cannot order a birth certificate because “Uh-Oh. Something went wrong. We cannot identify you.” On the plus side I guess it saves me the additional $5 processing fee for using the app. This is a useless app which I will be deleting.
Of every app I have, this is the most worthless...
If I wanted to simulate how poorly my tax dollars could be spent, this is it. I have multiple vehicles but nothing pulls up through the app. If I had made this and called it the “official app of Kansas”, I would be embarrassed. Anything but a one-star review has to be a government employee. No actual person likes a broken app that’s only used to pay taxes.

Renewing my vehicles was a piece of cake! Although, the “PIN” was only a 4 number and I had an 8 number they gave me 3 options so I could do it different ways! Awesome way to do it! Great APP!
I’ve used before no issues. Now when attempting to order a birth cert after putting in the date or the town a white page with no writing, and no way to clear off, pops up and blocks the view of what’s behind it.
Went thru the app for a marriage certificate. After a week, found out that they hold your payment for up to 2 weeks. They then said they could cancel my order, so I ordered through another site only to have them charge me & apologize that their staff needed more training. Avoid this app & go thru Vitalcheck.
Even though my information for my car was correct it still wouldn't recognize it so now I have to go to renew it at an office in drag three kids in..... Something needs to be updated and I don't know what, but it doesn't work
The app fails to recognize that you are trying re-register your vehicle. You can search the PIN, VIN, Plate, any and everything and it never works. Have tried for 2 years with no success. Spend my tax dollars elsewhere please!
I love the convenience but this app. Has issues. Tough to get things to follow through. One vehicle at a time. Have never received a confirmation email and it never fails, having to call in and find out where my tags are.
Trying to renew my tags but with my PIN number or using my plate keep gets the same message, that show how I’m not in the system. What’s the point of online if vehicles don’t show up……
I expected it to be bad, takes way more than it should. Get the website working so I dont have to install crap and pay a gregarious using the app fee. Love Kansas but elected officials can’t get anything right, except for overcharging the hell out us
With my renewal notice in hand. I open the app. I tried in putting my plate number. Could not find it. I didn't put it in my pin number. And it found mine vehicle and my plate number. But said I was not eligible for renewal. Your great app is a failure!
They take a lot of personal information that is available to hackers. If you make a mistake, you are locked out of using app but you can’t delete your account and they still have sensitive data. DONT USE THIS APP
No clue how much they paid for this app. Tried to renew my drivers license on the app. App took my money then they later rejected my DL renewal due to not having an eye exam. Selected my eye doctor and they did not even contact her. Had eye exam weeks ago. Scam app.
