I chose jellyfish at first specifically for the type of light. Can’t be beat but now it’s all about the app and services. Jellyfish is way behind their competitors with having a cloud service not being able to sync to music. Their Linux box is already pricey so I hope they don’t expect us to buy a different operating system to have the same services that their competitors have. I’ve given 3 stars because the lights can not be beat. But the app and services are a 1 star at best.
When adding a color or making a small change to a program, the brightness returns to 100% and most settings revert to the original settings. Sometimes I like my design but want to change or adjust one color or other setting, and the whole thing reverts. Also, would be nice if there was a global brightness option. These lights are bright and I keep mine below 20% almost all the time.
I love the lights, the app is a little underwhelming. Although there are tons of preset lighting options the schedule is flaky and often times doesn’t update with changes or lights don’t turn on or off at saved intervals for no apparent reason. I would love to see a status on the top header for pattern currently “in use”, try to figure out why the app crashes if reopened, and fix the flaky scheduling so I don’t have to confirm if the lights actually turn on or off every time.
I just had 450’ of these lights installed on my house and I am blown away by the brightness and customization. I was a little afraid after reading some of the reviews of this app, but I have not ran into a single problem with the app, it does everything I can think to throw at it! If you are on the fence about getting permanent Christmas lights, DO IT!
As others have said, the lights are great, but the app is the weak point. It does not provide the level of control needed. A few weak points for me. 1- The brightness slider needs to be moved to the Adjust tab to the Pattern tab. The reason being that you cannot control the brightness of individual lights. I want 1 bright, followed by 3 dim with a custom warm white color. This isn’t possible. The lighter/darker slider also is not the solution to this problem for custom colors. 2- The speed setting for the chase needs more slower options. For example, the vast majority of the time my lights will be in accent mode. I would like the ability to set a very slow chase (like every minute or 30 seconds) to ensure the LEDs get used/worn evenly. 3- Enhance the app so that it supports a cloud connection.
If it wasn’t for the awesome lights and ability to customize them, I would have demanded my money back. The app is the most unreliable, functioning, inconsistent app I’ve used. Nothing about it is intuitive. Also, anything you touch seems to change what color or pattern the lights are. The fact you have to be connected to the same network as the controller in order to control the lights is super outdated. I should be able to control the lights from anywhere?! Very unsatisfied about the app and features. Other than that, the lights are awesome.
I often have difficulty even connecting into the app which is frustrating. I wish I could make changes anywhere but I literally have to stand in my garage to make adjustments. The customization options are difficult to know what’s really going on and the calendar preset does not always kick in so I have to go back into the app and change the styles myself for holidays and after. Very disappointed in the app and process to program my lights.
This works if you have a dedicated Wi-Fi signal. It does not work with mesh systems as the controller and your phone may not connect to the same device: something that the programmers need to address. To resolve, we had our provider turn back on the 2.4 ghz modem Wi-Fi and then we loaded the App onto a rarely used old iPad that we directly linked only to the 2.4 ghz Wi-Fi, bypassing our mesh network. It works great now.
After spending an arm and leg for quality permanent lighting today, I am rather disappointed in the app. Lacks many modern features. 1: complaint is that I cannot connect remotely (5ft or more from box in garage) 2: not incredibly intuitive and user friendly 3: in schedule mode, you cannot see what the pre selected show colors are. It just makes them as if you have them memorized I really hope jellyfish invests in improving this app. Lights get my approval for initial quality and brightness the app is what makes it debatable to refer to all my friends and Neigbors.
This company is constantly updating and getting better. I’m glad because you spend a lot of money and then feel like the support might be gone, but it’s not. They are awesome continuing to improve the product. I get support from my installer locally in Illinois. Awesome product.
I love the lights. The app is good. However the scheduler part doesn’t work. I’ve tried multiple times and it never works. Also, I wish there was a way to control the lights remotely from anywhere. The only way for it to work is if I’m at home connected to the same WiFi.
Installation was fantastic, they did great. Lights so far have been fantastic as well. The app is complete garbage. It fails to connect to the lighting system all the time, it is slow when it does connect. Have very good network that covers the house, garage and yard as well as a high speed network. Nothing but issues with the app, my $300 Rachio irrigation system runs circles around d the jellyfish app. For spending $3200 I expected the app to at least function and work.
As it says. The lights are great, seem to be good quality and plenty bright. But the app is atrocious. The number of times it has said lost connection (and then just sits and hangs), forcing me to reboot over and over to get the lights to work, is completely unacceptable for what you pay for this lighting system. If I’m sitting ten feet from the router on a 600 meg connection, it shouldn’t ever be losing connection or having issues. The app needs massive improvement.
lights great but app communication to unit not so good
lights are great but app communication to unit is a huge problem. We had the motherboard replaced almost a year ago with same problem and now it’s happening again. The unit will show the lights on but lights are off, or app will not communicate to unit & says not on same wifi or lost contact with controller:( We used to recommend and refer now we don’t.
Using the app is like playing the lotto. You might win and get a connection, but you probably won’t. If you’re lucky enough to get in, don’t waste time looking around. Have a plan ready. Use strategery and execute quickly before you get the boot.
The lights are amazing when the app decides to work. You’d think a company bringing in this type of money would have a more user friendly software. It seems to have a ton of bugs that are no bother to the company. The app doesn’t follow the time settings, some dates set on the schedule are ignored and there’s way too much going on.
It is a bad strategy to require being on the same Wi-Fi network as the controller. 1. Prevents you from turning them on or off when away from the house (like every other internet connected device). 2. Also makes it a difficult time defining. Zones and playing with colors while outside of the Wi-Fi signal is t strong outside the home. Super frustrating. Additionally, having issues with the app UI when trying to add/edit zones - when expanding them, the screen just goes blank.
Lights are awesome. With just the right combination of lighting our house really pops. App needs work. Need to have a way to know what current light setting is running seems to revert back to original settings anytime your trying to make adjustments.
Lighting is good but the app is utter crap! It fails every time you open it! The schedule function doesn’t work. Lights were supposed to go off at midnight but still on in the morning. The definitions in the selection are cut off and you can’t tell what your selecting. This was built by amateurs.
Doesn’t work half the time, can not connect to the box in garage, over 2 years I’ve had to do the WiFi reset 3 times, 30+ minutes to make it reconnect. Pretty disappointed with my overall experience. Was lied to about the lights being able to dance to music with a later update.
Wish the app would have a photo booth so you could take a picture of the color you wanted the lights to be. Also, the schedule doesn’t update with daylight savings time.
I have only had my lights (which I love) for a few weeks. The app is complete trash. It says connection issue 90% of the time. I had to leave my lights on all night because I could never connect. If I had known this app was this bad I wouldn’t have spent all that money. Really disappointing.
Lights are absolutely amazing! The app leaves a lot to be desired. Difficult to use and not very intuitive. Wish there was a way customers could share their custom configurations and wish the app was more user friendly
Lights are great! Jellyfish needs to quit being so lazy and update the app to keep up with the competition out there! It’s a guessing game with colors when designing… that kind of money for sheer lazy technology design . Look elsewhere for lights!! Shame on you as a company!
We were one of the first houses that installed Jellyfish lights in our neighborhood. We got a lot of interest and people purchasing the lights from alllll over….which is great , however it’s been frustrating since they’ve grown in business. I used to talk personally with the guy that created the product… amazing man, but now when I call to get help bc the new app doesn’t work with the controller… I’m told it will be at least 150.00 dollars just to have someone come out … this doesn’t include if they need to do something or if they conclude it won’t work. Super frustrating app updates and customer service.
