I am using My Life Now app from almost 3 years and I never had major complaints. This new app provides website access from the app itself rather than logging to website through browser like in old app. This is great feature and reduces a lot of pain to see additional information like vested balance etc. without logging again.
I’ve been trying for over 2 weeks to open this app. Once it says “welcome to your plan” it then says “we’re sorry, we are experiencing technical difficulties, please try again later”. Even the website is having difficulties. It’s always so challenging to access my account and every time I need to, I end up having to call customer service. It’s frustrating to say the least. This last time I called customer service, he couldn’t even help me as I was already doing everything he instructed me to do, and still couldn’t access my account. He suggested to change my password as a last resort. I’m sick of changing my pw every time I need to access my account. I am considering transferring my funds to a different account altogether. There’s no point in using JH if I cannot access my accounts.
Why would you design a app to not work? Doesn’t make sense. Links are not clickable and won’t let you proceed beside go back. But if you go back it says “ are you sure you want to go back? All data would be lost” Well no other place to go than go back and lose all the data you inputted so far so you have to start all over again. What’s the sense of this app really? I’ve tried closing the app. Restarting my phone. Reinstalling the app and the screen just darkens as if there is a button that is hidden you must press to move forward. The instructions clearly say what you need to do but nothing works besides go back once you made it so far. App might be a fake app and now all my info and anyone else’s is compromised. Beware of this app.
Apart from checking your balance and allowing you to change profile settings and contributions amounts, I don’t see what else this app can do for me. I can’t even check deposit history… sure they have statements, but only quarterly statements from the last quarter so I can’t even see what’s been deposited for months at a time. Overall, the fact that I can’t even see deposits makes this app somewhat useless. Seeing my account balance is the bare minimum, but I can already do that from any other 3rd party finance management app, so really there is no useful resources here. Very basic and disappointing.
You cannot even get a representative on the phone. John Hancock is by far the worst broker used on any of my retirement plans. I can’t even get a representative on the phone to help with a rollover that I am not able to do through the website. Whenever you try to call and go through all the prompts, it says to call back later or visit the website. I’ve called during business hours daily for over a week and I am not able to do the rollover through the website so this is useless advice. Absolutely terrible customer service. I cannot wait to get my money out of this brokerage and into a real one and highly advise ANYBODY against using John Hancock.
I need to see if my latest contribution was credited to my account. Unlike with my other 401(k) providers, the contribution typically isn’t credited on my pay day but several days later. That’s another issue. The website gives me a server 500 error message so I can’t access my account there right now. And the app does not have any functionality to let us access this information. Why? It’s a simple table that shows the latest transactions/contributions. Any app worth their salt should let the account owners see the activity in their account, not just the totals. I’m so annoyed that our company chooses to use John Hancock for our retirement plan.
Of any/all apps I have and use, this is by far the worst performing. Unfortunately, all my retirement funds are with Hancock, so it’s also the most important! Their response has been, ‘we’re having technical issues and IT is working on it’. Nobody has IT issues for 2 solid months.
I do appreciate John Hancock security when it comes down to my savings, no one these days time how important it is to save so again I appreciate the security that John Hancock provide from my account and not only my account but other as well thank you John Hancock
This app is atrocious. It is SO slow and is constantly glitching so I can’t even get into it. I’m not kidding when I say 2-3 times a week it just won’t work. Once you’re in it’s so rudimentary it seems like a kid built their app. I have a VOYA account as well and if I could switch my money to them I would, solely based off the app experience. VOYA will show you thinks like previous year balances, how much I’ve contributed vs how much I’ve made (JH only shows you the combined number) and is much more user friendly. Overall not a fan.
I don’t know how you make a finance app without a chart, graph, or even easy access to transactions, you have to open a pdf in the app because the app can’t display them itself. If you want anything more than just a total on your account or change contributions rates this app just like their website is pretty much a waste of time. If that’s all you need and can ignore the obnoxious pop up trying to get you to invest more on the front page with that X% complete that’s all this app can handle anyway.
I find this app largely useless. It doesn’t tell you what you’ve contributed from each pay period, doesn’t show you gain/loss over time. When you click on statements, even those are useless. Just what has been contributed in the last quarter. Best part is when the statement loads, the pages are sideways and every other page is in the opposite direction as the previous. Lol. I’d go back to Fidelity if I could. They have an amazing and informative app. Lots of information.
For such a large investment firm, I totally would expect more from their app. Most of the detailed information is formatted for a much larger screen and very difficult to read. I’ve never understood why there aren’t graphs showing trends of gains/losses vs investment. A graph showing the total amount invested and another showing the gain/loss amount over time would be nice.
A few suggested improvements to this app would be lack of dark mode; after i launch the app (pre logon) there is a blue to white color transition which hurts my eyes (please stop that animation, and add dark mode). Please also help to hide profiles; I have 2 profiles that I would like to hide. Transactions; There’s also no way to see transactions. Thanks devs.
This app makes it easy to see & do everything you need with regards to your retirement & financial planning. It has the highest levels of security, while making it easy to access & keep track of your funds. Great app!
The app will not work with Face ID, had been enabled in the app. Under Face ID & Passcodes it doesn’t show up. Call to get tech support about 9 months ago and was told it doesn’t work but an update would fix it. Updates have not resolved the issue. Call again, tech didn’t know iPhones have Face ID. Was put on hold for 45 minutes then disconnected. I have run through all the troubleshooting myself, delete and reinstall app, reboot… Face ID does not work on iPhone X -14.
Enrollment attempts always come back with an error, making it unusable: Sorry, a system problem occurred that allowed you to enter an investment allocation that does not equal 100%. To resolve this problem, please log off and log back in; you will then need to begin the enrollment process again. If this situation should continue to occur, please contact a Participant Service Representative. Sorry for the inconvenience.
When the app works it’s good, but it’s rare (half the time, from my experience over the past year) that it can pull up your account information. Doesn’t give you a lot of faith in your retirement nest egg when half the time you can’t access it. Gave it two stars because it’s decent half the time when you can log in. They need to get serious!
Downloaded the app, signed on with my existing John Hancock login and password, enabled Face ID and I’ve had not a single problem. So nice not to have to go to the webpage every time I want to check my account
First time using this app and I’m not impressed at all. Pages with no options to choose with buttons that don’t go anywhere. Pages that won’t shrink to phone size. Pages that won’t rotate when you turn your phone. These are BASIC features that clearly didn’t go through Q&A. Not so confident when this is what my money is sitting behind….
I’ve tried 5 times to enter and save the beneficiary information for my daughter and granddaughter. It keeps saying it can’t verify some kind of security information. I’ve tried logging out and back in several times, but the same issue persists. The reason I downloaded the app is so I wouldn’t waste time on the phone with this, but guess what, now I have to call
5th gen iPad Pro, iOS 16.5.1. App will not rotate for landscape viewing. Also, it needs more features like the website. The only reason I use it at this time is for quick balance checks, but only on my iPhone. I use my iPad with the pro keyboard, and since the app isn’t viewable in landscape mode, it’s pretty useless for me in iPad.
The associate was very knowledgeable and helped me set up my program from the beginning to the end I really do appreciate her she bit her name was Jen and I thank you very much!
Similar to the website, attempts to log in and access account info frequently result in an error message about technical difficulties and a request that I try again later. The outages often last hours and hours. I try to check my account about once a month and am prevented maybe 25% of the time.
This mobile app is stuck in the stone ages. The information it provides to its investors is practically useless. It leans heavy towards “invest more money with us” but almost nothing around portfolio performance (a reason why to invest more) with many steps to open a Statement that’s days behind, and never in real time. Please take lesson from Fidelity, Charles Schwab and Morgan Stanley’s mobile app’s, yours is disappointing. Thank you
Contains helpful information, but could be improved by adding data on percent change in value over day, month, or year. Current value is not enough. Change in value is a helpful indicator of performance. This should be upfront on opening page.
The retirement portfolio doesn’t show the investment losses/gains for the account. For an investment portfolio, it is extremely important for the user to understand how much his money has gained or lost over the time period. The portfolio only shows employee and employer contribution. The rate of return has to be calculated manually which is quite cumbersome.
New updates sacked my password, it no longer prompts…it does not work…I could never understand why so many companies “break” things when they think they need an “updated” version…ugh. Fix the bugs leave alone what works! Geesh
Like many others I’m unable to login. My credentials work on the web site and are being entered by a password manager (app also does not play nicely with password managers) Issue occurring on iPhone 13 mini with the latest iOS (15.5) Tested on gigabit wifi as well as cellular data. As a Sr. Software Engineer I’m happy to provide application logs but please do NOT tell me to contact tier 1 customer support for an issue they will have no idea how to resolve. I am more than happy to hook up to a Mac and pull app debug logs though and send them to someone who can use them. There is clearly an issue in the authentication flow between the app and backend services.
So I instead this app and now my user name is not recognized and my password isn’t recognized I don’t want to change anything this must be a joke and a waste of time
Spent all this time enrolling, then try to get out of app, says progress will be lost. No other way out. Close app, go back in and get promoted to enroll again. Get to end of enrollment again, website says to call customer service. Call CS twice, going through the slow automated prompts, get hung up on twice right when I get to a live person.
I’ve literally never written a review for an app but this one is so bad. Every time I log in it asks me to enroll even though I am enrolled and can see the balance of my account in the background. I try to contact JH for help and the submit button doesn’t work! What a horrible clunky piece of crap app. If they can’t manage to create a decent app in 2021 how are they managing my assets?!
It’s 2022 and the fact that a company a large as JH doesn’t have a functioning app is ridiculous. It says a lot about how they feel about their customers and how cutting edge they are. You still have to use snail mail to do business with them. Once the boomer generation dies so will your company. Please throw away the fax machine and hire someone to build an app and website.
What wouldn’t the app allow you to see returns on your investments at the very least. Ideally it’d be broken down by fund. Instead it gives you total amount which tells you nothing about your performance. I understand there’s a link to the retirement website but then why am I using the app at all?
It would be helpful if there was an option to select countries other than the US when estimating retirement readiness since other countries have different cost of living and health care costs.
The app works with the basic functionalities, but is the worse user experience and design app for financial customer! You guys should do a better work especially because are managing million and millions of dollars and we the investors are using more the phone nowadays
This app has not worked for some time now and it’s impossible to find out who to reach out to in order to get it fixed. Every time I try to open the app, I get an error message that it’s having technical difficulties. When is it going to be fixed?
It takes forever for anything to load. Cant make any profile changes because of some error saying my credentials can’t be validated. I’ll have to call someone to transfer my retirement to another firm. I’ll probably kick the bucket before something loads.
Very helpful young man. Very patient and knowledgeable and careful to not disclose certain information over the phone, but explained to me how to find it. It was a Pleasure.
