Kangaroo: Simple Home Security

I love this app. It’s not often you find a great app that does exactly what you were hoping. I don’t use all the functions but I’m sure they work fine. My main function is motion detecting my mailbox. Everyday around the same time I get a notification my mailbox is open and I look forward to it. I know that sounds may sound lame but trust me it’s cooler than you think. At least for me. I have a long driveway and would go back and forth to check the mail not knowing if mail had been delivered. With this app as soon as my mailbox is open BAM notification. I may use other functions later on but for now it fixed a minor issue for me that just makes my quality of life a tiny bit better. Also the battery life for my motion detector is amazing! And the ability to monitor that is super cool. Anyway thanks guys for a great product. I look forward to utilizing more of it’s functions in the future. If I could think of one thing I’d change it would be adding the ability to turn of the repeat alarm. I understand it is for the best for many users but for me I only need one notification that my alarm has been triggered. So a simple toggle for that would be cool. Thanks again!

I was very skeptical about purchasing the Kangaroo Video Doorbell with Chime because I was so worried it was going to be like every other video doorbell. Where you pay out the yin yang for the door bell and then they want you to pay a yearly service fee just to get a picture sent to your phone. I am really glad I finally decided to pull the trigger and purchase the Kangaroo Video Doorbell with Chime. It’s better than I expected. My only three issues with this device is one the volume of the chime. Even set as high as it will go; it’s still pretty quiet. My other issue is also with the chime and that’s the lack of ring melodies. Your only given 2 melodies. Kangaroo and Ding Dong. Kangaroo is really low volume where as Ding Dong is louder but still rather low considering it’s suppose to alert you someone is at your door. I really wish they would add more melodies as well as make them a bit louder. My house isn’t that big but if I’m in my bedroom without my phone. There is no way I can hear either included chime from my bedroom. My third issue is with the premium add-on plan PPP. I don’t like paying for anything annually and really wish they would allow customers to have the option of paying monthly at the same price. Other than these three small issues. The app is fantastic and really easy to use. I will be a return customer and be adding onto my security system with more Kangaroo 🦘 products! Customer for life!

I was super excited to finally purchase this product line for securing my new home after waiting for my closing. It arrived quickly and looked exactly as pictured. The doorbell camera is a little larger than I envisioned. Setup of the security system was effortless and the app made it a breeze. The motion and entry sensors are perfect! I am however extremely disappointed in the pictures from the doorbell camera. It took about an hour for it to start to take pictures and when it did, it left much to be desired. I was not expecting it to be on par with some of the more expensive options but I did expect to at least be able to see colors. The exposure is awful and the delay between the ring on the doorbell and the alert to my phone almost makes it unusable. I held out hope that night vision would be better and was again disappointed. I think I’ll have to go with a dual system for doorbell cam and security because I really am impressed with the security portion with the exception of the siren needing to be a little louder. Edit: Also the siren has updated 2 times in the middle of the night and, since it talks when doing so, scared the living daylights out my family.

No matter which devices you choose, or which plan you choose (I’m on free), the system provides amazing bang for your buck. Keep in mind that some of their inexpensive devices are just that, inexpensive. Don’t expect the doorbell camera to be on par with systems like ring which need to be wired up, or need expensive solar mounts to stay running. In my opinion, Kangaroo is IoT security done right: -SIMPLE COMPONENTS keep costs down, no unnecessary bells and whistles (unless you want them with their subscription). -EASY SETUP means it’s very fast to deploy, with no headaches. -DATA STORED SECURELY in the usa through AWS (I’ve seen many cheap devices tunnel back to China) -FREQUENT UPDATES mean that any issues I encountered were resolved without any need for me to do anything. -GREAT SUPPORT from the friendly support team. -NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO HACK as a network and security engineer, one of the first thing I did was analyze how this device works, and they’ve done it right (as long as you keep your kangaroo login info safe)

The App is very user friendly and with a great interface. It also contains online chat support or call back if you like. I replaced my hardwired alarm with this product and love it. I had their expensive competition (Simply_Expensive or something like that) in a prior residence. They made me pay extra (in the additional to the monthly monitor fee) for using the App to control my system. This is the best App and alarm product available, I also purchased the door-camera ($20) same as my neighbors but his is Ring_Expensive also.

I bought the doorbell camera on clearance at Lowe’s. The setup was easy and straight forward. I mounted the camera on my front door as recommended. I tested it out by walking up to my front door to simulate a package delivery. I got one bad picture of my back on my way back down the steps. The camera takes way too long to activate when motion is present. When I did have someone ring my doorbell when I was at work, I got no clear pictures of who it was. It is also too sensitive and picks up motion from the street even after I adjusted the sensitivity. A car passing by will set it off but will be gone before the camera activates so I have a lot of notifications and pictures of my front yard. It is also a hassle that I can’t go straight to my “video” (which is just a handful of pictures stitched together) without completing setup which means entering my credit card and other personal information. I’m going to have to pass on that. I should have passed on this camera.

How about the door Bell camera and tried to install it today on my iPhone and did not work and I tried for a couple hours even called the company they tell me to wait a couple hours because they’re fixing some kind of issue that they’re having with iPhones and their app because when you go to set up and to pair it with your Internet it logs straight out as a whole app which is not good do you have a chance to even try it then I want to take it back but I will try One more time tomorrow before taking it back to Walmart where I bought it if it don’t work tomorrow it will be going back that’s my review because I can’t give a full review when I could not use it to get it to work sad for a company to make a product like this and tell you got to white other companies don’t do that you get connected right away but this one not that great not raining in me over wish I would’ve saved up and got a better one right now at this time given my opinion

The first problem is it takes too long to activate the camera. This subject is already passed before it starts functioning. Second problem is they set it up for face recognition but it says everything but faces. Tree branches, moving cars traveling down the street which is far away, and even those that only catches the tail end of it. Also, nothing in the settings really seems to make any difference and how it operates. I’ve had it for quite a while now, probably a couple of years, but I’m thinking about investigating a better operating system. I live on a dead-end street so there’s very little traffic but the camera will be sold off 50 or 75 times a day seeing the tail end of a car or a tree branch moving. People walk up my driveway then up my sidewalk and up my porch in our entering the door before the camera turns on.

Update: Appreciate the quick developer response. All is working again and we’re getting the know the system better. Would love to see a brief history of trigger events (24 hours or less) even after dismissing in the app. Original review: Been using for a few days with no issues and was pleased, then tonight started to have issues. Devices all have connection to our WiFi (confirmed on the router side), but the app keeps stalling and saying “connection lost” while trying to arm from within the home or view sensors. Unable to arm from the Siren or register my husband to the account. Not super impressed and definitely going to hang on to the packaging for the sensors themselves in case it continues.

I love the idea they’ve got going but the functionality is still lacking. So far I’m only a week or two into it but had to turn off notifications for the front camera after the first day. There is an adjustment that can change motion detection from 8 to 16 feet. Unfortunately it does nothing. I had to turn off notifications because after about an hour I got 10 notifications all from cars on the street that is about 30 or 40 feet away. I even get notes when my neighbor moves outside and he’s 100 feet away at least. So if you want a super sensitive camera (that btw isn’t great quality or color at all) it’s great. Wrote to customer support and they said they are working on it but nothing I could do as of now. Hoping it gets worked out but you get what ya pay for I suppose. Have friends with other companies cams that work well.

The whole point of having a security camera is defeated. The live option never works, it just shows what looks like a photo even though my internet has no issues. The new “cooldown” method is stupid and it doesn’t give you the option to turn it off.. the camera goes offline at random times even though my internet is again fine. I watched someone walk down the sidewalk from my window and yet the live option didn’t show it nor did the event get recorded but the camera/connection was fine. At this point the camera might as well be fake because it isn’t doing anything it is supposed to. Just go with a different camera.

This product has a lot of bang for your buck. But the doorbell Camera didn’t meet my expectations. An ad directly comparing Kangaroo to Ring was a bit misleading, but it was up to me to due diligence. I had an impulse buying moment after my car was rifled through in the middle of the night after being left unlocked unintentionally by my wife...the ad popped up immediately. Hopefully some firmware improvements help but the hardware is what it is.. But the bright side is all the motion sensors, door sensors and siren doorbell/keypad make up for the lackluster camera. My home is secure. I’ll probably move this to a rear sliding door and get a ring anyway for “real-time video, talking, streaming” Just being honest...

Latest update- the product arrived. It was packaged real well. Very easy to install. Giving it 3 stars cause the doorbell camera just stitches bunch of pictures. In the end 9 out of 10 times it doesn’t capture the persons face especially during package deliveries. For this to work a person would literally have to stand in front of the camera and be still for a few seconds to get their image. Good to detect motion but pointless as a camera. Previous review - I invested in this company via republic. Been activated on the app for over a month now but still haven’t received the kit. So far my experience with the company is 1star. Maybe that will change once I actually get the product. Stay tuned!

The Kangaroo System fit our need perfectly! We put the doorbell camera on the front of the condo and 2 sensors on our glass doors downstairs because we are right on the water. (This was for our younger grandchildren) We are able to monitor everything from our phones and the glass door alarm sounds through the door bell plug in. The cost is amazing...under $100 for what we purchased compared to over $800 from a security business. Couldn’t be more pleased. We’ve already recommended it to other people.

Everything is great except the most important thing - can you trust this system to make your home safe? Even though I really want to say yes given how cool and intuitive it is to use, I can’t say I trust it. Sensors and door/window controls seem to work fine. Doorbell camera is a joke, it’s like take your $20 and flush it down the toilet kind of a product - but it’s $20 so I can live with that. My disappointment is mostly with privacy camera, it’s great when it works, but it works only about 10% of the time. Most other times it’a just a black screen with a spinning trying to load circle... And if you’re lucky to get it to load it’s an upside down image. This is completely unacceptable from a security system.

I bought the “privacy camera” device and it has never connected to wifi. (It has to be connected to wifi to work at all). Kangaroo customer service wether it be in chat or over the phone is completely incompetent. Couldn’t get my device online, so I have to return it. Everything else in my house is up and running just fine. No issues with the internet at all. No connectivity issues what so ever. I spoke to several customer service agent/techs and all of them went through the same exact scrip same exact trouble shooting, no one could actually figure out the problem and they wouldn’t let me speak to a supervisor/manager/some one who knows anything at all about squat. Really annoying.

I do love the affordability and stuff. I wish the full screen pop-up when motion & sound is detected on any camera can be removed. It highly interferes with the overall usability of the app especially if I’m trying to look at a camera. I already get a notification any, so why stump the usability of the app with a annoying full screen pop-up. Other than that, everything else as of now is basically flawless.

My system has gone off twice without being triggered at all. On several other instances I have disarmed the alarm, it confirms that it’s disarmed and still goes off once the door is opened. It also wouldn’t clear with the key fob a couple of times. I left ADT and now I honestly wish I hadn’t but I will wait it out since I paid for a year of service. Kangaroo has great potential but it still needs a few fixes. I would also like an option to view sensor history (Ex: what door was opened/closed and at what time) in the app and not just via phone notification that you can’t view any longer once you clear it. Hopefully these things will be fixed and I can remain with Kangaroo because it’s a great deal.

Bought the privacy camera. After setting it up the app continues to crash. I contacted kangaroo via the chat box and on the phone. They told me that this actions hasn’t happened in a while. However they would look into finding away to correct the error. A few days after the ticket was submitted for the app crash they send me an email informing me that they were closing the ticket. They still have not fixed the issue!!! I’ve been using kangaroo for a long time now and now this! I highly frustrated as I can’t secure my home like I need to.

Got the starter kit plus two privacy cameras and was extremely impressed about everything from the packaging to the easy-to-use app to the actual product. The best thing about the products is that they are all so easy to set up. Just download the app and you can connect all of them together within minutes. Would 100% recommend to anyone looking to get some additional home security that is reaonsably priced and easy to use!

As far as security, Kangaroo is by far the best system that does everything you need at a price that doesn’t break the bank. The only thing I do not like and hope the fix soon, is the integration between Kangaroo and Google home. It seems to disconnect randomly at times and I always have to re-integrate the two at the most inconvenient times. However, being able to control the system from your phone through the Kangaroo app does alleviate some of the frustrations from the integration issues.

While it did take a while for me to receive my shipment I think the product is great and very easy to set up. Very user friendly so your grandparents who are not tech savvy would be able to install with no problems. My only complaint is the siren isn’t very loud but you are able to purchase additional sirens for houses/apartments with additional floors I have 1 level so I was ok with just one. But besides that great product and it works great

I was hesitant to buy this product since it’s on the cheaper side but I wanted something until I could afford the ring doorbell. However I am blown away by the clarity, reliability, and accuracy of this Kangaroo and app. And customer service is very easy to get ahold of and they are super helpful! I have never switched to ring bc I am so satisfied with kangaroo!

I love my kangaroo I just didn’t know I would love to buy so many battles but I guess it’s like gas in your car the more you use it the more you pay I guess the original batteries I got were really bad so they didn’t last that long like a week but the new batteries that go really long I wish I could afford more my favorite and I really happy with them

This whole thing is a rip off! This camera works when it wants too and does not capture everything. Not only does it drain the best batteries frequently, you have to reset it multiple times. I’ve had this camera for approximately 1 year and I have changed the batteries more than I’ve changed any other batteries in my life. Also, since it’s been a year and I did not take any of their subscriptions, after 24 hrs it’s locks the previous images and wants you to upgrade. This is a TOTAL rip off attempting to force someone to subscribe. As of today, I’m DONE with Kangaroo! Ring here o come! It’s TRASH!

Please make it so that I can connect when I use my Extension Wi-Fi. Also, it spins when a phone call or something interrupts the view. I end up having to swipe it out and reload. Finally, I use to watch my dog, so I know when he needs to go to the bathroom. I leave the view on during the night only to find that it locked up in the morning. This only happened today, so not sure why. It’s never touched during the night. Please make some adjustments. Thx

UPDATE: while I appreciate the developers quick response, and their comments on the money back guarantee: I pre-ordered this with a shipment date projected to be 30 days out. 3 1/2 months later I finally received it, and it did not come in the 2 day shipping I also paid for when I pre-ordered it. Developer did refund that sometime during the 3 1/2 month wait that I was simply told was “due to delays”. Thanks, but I have moved on. For the prices and total lack of quality- which makes the entire purpose of these unusable- go spend an extra few dollars and get a better setup. For $150 I have four security cameras, two door sensors, a motion sensor all tied to a specific camera- and a wired door bell camera. The quality is outstanding. The video on this doorbell camera? 2002 digital camera remixed with Instagram Boomerang in some pop culture film from the 70’s on acid. How is the helpful? Keep trying Kangaroo, and NO money back guarantee. I threw my doorbell camera and chime in the trash.

App kept shutting down. I used 2 different iPhones and neither worked so I called the 800 number. She told me that because I tried 2 times there was nothing she could do because it blocked both numbers… lucky for her I have a iPad with a phone number as well. Lol Tried it on the iPad with her on the phone.. Same thing happened. Her excuse was there was a glitch with iOS.. it’s false advertising on the box when it says works for iOS and it clearly doesn’t. Waste of time.. returning in the morning. Spend a little more money for something better..

Bought a system for my house and my shop.. unfortunately you can only have one location overall. Meaning if I’m at work I can’t set the alarm for my home because it turns on at both locations! Customer service says I need two phones with separate accounts lol only problem is my primary phone number can only be added to one account 🤦🏻‍♀️ wish I would have went with someone else .. or if the box at least tells you that you can’t use multiple devices in separate locations.. instead they make it look like you can

I got Kangaroo sensors for free from my insurance company and didn’t think much of them after I installed them. I bought a brand new home and it turns out that my dishwasher connection had a slow leak that I wouldn’t have noticed until it flooded out onto my kitchen floor. I got a high humidity alert under my sink the other day and discovered the leak in its very early stages. Amazing.

I bought two motion sensors for the fun of it. This app needs improvements though, hell, the whole service does. 1) id like to be able to arm instantly, 3 minutes is not an ideal time gap, or better yet, you should be able to change yours according to your home. 2) they need to have notifications when motion is detected, not just when the system is “armed”. I only have motion sensors, nothing else, it defeats the purpose. 3) customer service is not great. they aren’t from here and aren’t very knowledgeable

Well that was $20 thrown in the Trash. I was really hopeful that this would work, the hardware looks ok, but the application isn’t up to what you expect. Most of the time when I get a alert, the camera trigger is too slow to actually get a picture. I have tested with my self coming to the door and walking away, if I do it just right, there’s no pictures of me. The other thing is, sometimes I would do the same thing, there would be no register whatsoever of me going in front of the camera and turning away. If you are looking to buy this to feel safe, forget It. The other thing is, you can’t just open the app and “see” what’s outside thru the camera, the only way to see it’s to have something trigger the motion sensor and get a stitch of a few pictures. That’s it, no live video view or video at all. Anyway, it’s a great idea, great price, bad execution.

Great system! Easy to set up and easy to use. We have used all of the big names for decades and switched when we bought this new house at the end of 2021. I was tired of paying so much for monitoring. I personally set this entire house up with my wife and teenager in a couple of hours. Very easy- very secure. Thank you kangaroo!!!

Security system it’s really good for price, but it says google works without a payment plan but when trying to arm system with google assistant it says that kangaroo security needs to be on a paid plan, well I subscribed to the plan and still not compatible since google home does not has the kangaroo option to link within the app. Already tried different ways to link even within the kangaroo app but no luck.

This system works very well. It was easy to install in our home. Works great through our phones ( I phone). The key fobs work great too for my son’s girlfriend so that she can get into the house. The notification process is really cool, letting us know when someone comes into the home. Can’t wait for the camera!! Really glad we purchased this system. Nice job👍.

I recently purchased this doorbell camera and downloaded the app three days ago and it is not notifying us when the doorbell is being rang nor is it showing the pictures on the app it just keeps saying loading photo stitch and nothing ever comes up. The first day it worked fine and the second day it picked up on the guy cutting the grass after that, nothing! I’m starting to feel like this was a waste of money when I really have faith in this product because of the great reviews but my experience has not been so pleasurable smh!

Amazing value, works well, overall very happy. Here are my suggestions: arm sensor should give 60 second grace period, not 5 min. The app notifies family members every time you arm and disarm (which happens way more often than the actual motion events). You should be able to toggle this off. All in all, The app works great, I was very impressed. I use it to monitor my garage. Thanks!

I bought a Kangaroo photo doorbell camera from Wal-Mart and installed it. The setup was easy and straightforward but when I got finished, the app and camera did nothing. No motion detection, no photos, nothing. I got on the phone with support and spent an hour trying to diagnose the problem. They failed, so I went back to WalMart and returned the camera and bought a second one. After going through the process a second time, I was sure that it would resolve, but…no. No motion detection, no photos, nothing. Sorry, but I ain’t trying a third time, Kangaroo.

I love the security system. It was easy to install. I would love the option to mount the keypad near my entry door on the wall which is where my old system is located. Also the volume could be louder. My home is over 3500 feet so it is hard to hear it. With that being said, it’s a system that works well and I didn’t have to pay for the startup kit. I will order additional sensors to cover other doors.

I got the $50 kit and it's worked great so far. I just wish they did two things. First, I'd love for there to be a panic button within the app itself and not just on the keypad/siren. Also, it desperately needs Google Home support. Not just Google Assistant support. Was disappointed when I found out I couldn't see or control it from the Home app and to use the system I have to say a very specific phrase to my Google speaker. Other than that I love my kangaroo system!

If your product fails, don’t expect them to help. Keep getting promised I’ll be in touch after engineers look into something and they don’t. 6 days and counting. When I reach out, they want me to buy the product. Barely 2 years old. Works fine on anything else. For a security company, I couldn’t even trust them with my life. Want to call them? Good luck. I’ve left voicemails with no call back and sometimes no one picks up. I’d rather pay more then trust this company again. Not worth your time or effort.

The Kangaroo security system needs to be calibrated to not detect the wind or just a car driving by . Than again, you never know when it could be a security breach . Just a thought, and I’m sure others are experiencing the same problem.

The notifications came for an hour then…poof! Gone. Even the in settings of my iPhone XR, Kangaroo does not appear. It appears on my iPad’s settings (although the iphone version is also installed there (only avail. version)). The iPad receives only banners whether locked or unlocked. It receives no sounds although sounds are checked. The iphone receives neither type of notification for button/doorbell presses OR for motion. Motion is recorded successfully and reported to the app. In short it’s very buggy. I’ll be returning mine.

The app itself is fine, but the product be warned burns through batteries at an obscene rate and if you have any issues their customer service is of no assistance. With the number of batteries this takes, you will lose any savings. I reported multiple issues of poor battery life, connectivity, and the doorbell camera having exposure issues with no offers to resolve it from their support despite multiple attempts. Do yourself a favor and buy a different security system.

For such a low price, we really weren’t expecting much, but Kangaroo has really been quite impressive!! Super easy setup and activation and flawless performance from day one!! Certainly not all the bells and whistles of the high dollar systems, but more than enough to provide peace of mind for our home.

Basic but does what it is supposed to…. My only complaints are that in the beginning I deleted by mistake and the items wouldn’t pair…I called in and they walked me through resetting it. The other complaint is when I took it back the the store none of the serial numbers on the items match the serial numbers on boxes

I think the app is really good. But the armed and disarm button doesn’t work. Like nothing happens when you click it. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else. But when I get home I would like to disarm it so it doesn’t record me when I’m walking around my home. But it’s always armed and records me as if I’m a disturbance.

I got the kangaroo door bell camera and a box camera for the backyard. Both of them worked for an hour or so before “losing connection” with the App they are both setup within 10 feet of the router and still have a hard time connecting. The worst part is the app won’t show you your recordings unless you pay an additional fee. Plus the app is covered in ads. It is an absolute waste of money. I strongly recommend going with anything other than this brand of junk.

I love this device and totally worth the piece of mind! the picture is amazing for the price too. my only complaint is that sometimes the app crashes on my phone so all I have is a white screen and then I can’t access the videos of who was at my door. It’d be nice to have another avenue to pull them up like through the main website instead of just the app.

The app and service is mediocre at best . With a lot of lost videos at the absolute worst timing . On top of their covered loss protection ……. That’s a complete joke . I had over $35,000 US IN LOSS . And their camera and paid service didn’t even notify of the fire , much less , their 2500$ reimbursement protection was denied because I couldn’t afford the cleanup and restoration to send them a final receipt of the charges . They offered no help at all just demanding more pictures and receipts . Not to mention this all happening on Christmas Day .
