Biggest bug it I can not update the firmware on the speakers. It just gets stuck in update mode for hours. A regular hdmi port instead of eARC would have been great. Earc is a nightmare because of hdcp. I can get sound through about a second and then the hdmi light starts to flash. Tried to connect CD player over hdmi and couldn’t get it to work even when outputting in 2Ch pcm. EArc is only for useful for people that use their smart tv app to watch tv and not many people that buy these speakers watch tv like this.
This is the only audio app that I use that does NOT show the player on the Lock Screen, so one canNOT learn the song title, one canNOT learn the who the artist is… If one wants to know that info: a) unlock device, b) find KEF connect app, and c) tap it and view. Also, in mid-March 2024, I reported, within the app, sudden constant loss of WiFi with all the detailed troubleshooting steps I performed over several days. A rep responded with some questions that I answered. Then the rep instructed me to do all that I had already done (original report). All had been fine for over a year, before the mid-2024 problems…As other users report, the problem is KEF auto-updates firmware INSTEAD of allowing the user/owner to choose when to implement firmware updating. The speakers are great, but the app and KEF ought to be better.
I have pretty solid wireless at my house, and this app has been pretty flawless in managing my LS50 II wireless speakers for quite some time now. I have been pleasantly surprised with how solid it has been compared to how buggy the original LS50 wireless app (I have a pair of those too ;)). I just tried upgrading my speakers to the latest firmware because I hadn’t used them in a while and it was painless. I have easily been able to configure my speakers whenever I have needed to and regularly play from multiple sources without issues. The only drawback is more of a Tidal issue in that Tidal does not let you use the physical volume controls when using Tidal Connect. As such, you have to open the app each time you want to make a change. Tidal still hasn’t fixed this after a few years. I think I used wired connectivity for the first few firmware revisions but since then wireless has been problem free. 😌
I have been using this app on my phone without problems and decided to see if it works on an M1 Mac. It works fine for me. The other reviews indicating it does not work are a year old, so perhaps things have been fixed. Once I logged in, all my settings from my phone were there and my LSX IIs were discovered.
After hearing others having issues with their LS50W not working properly with Orbi wireless mesh, I was concerned that the LS50 Wireless II would have issues as well. I’m happy to report no issues with the app, the system working with Orbi, or firmware update issues. I think they’ve made a few positive updates to the app so it is pretty smooth.
App works OK. Often says my speakers are disconnected when they are not. Please add the ability for the app to show on the Lock Screen so the track can be changed and paused without having to go back to the app.
Just upgraded from the legacy LS50 to the wireless II and the need to download this version. And I am surprisingly amazed by the user interface of this app compared to the other KEF app.. unfortunately this only works with the Wireless II speakers and the previous owners of LS50 will still need to continue with the other two KEF control apps.
I am on an M1 16" and have it hooked up to a pair of KEF LS50 Wireless II, and it works perfectly. Other than an update today, it does as described. Along with creating profiles for movies and music, I have precise control over my KC62's performance to get the perfect soundstage.
Tech support is helping and I hope they fix this but selling wireless speakers without analog inputs assumes the kef app is stable. What is the point of hi fi audio if audio skips and drops while listening to songs? Bluetooth is more stable than using the native app but that is not why I purchased this (and switching inputs makes the app lose track of the speakers). This app needs an overhaul. Searching for songs is not fun either. The gui needs work.
Overall good, but... Cannot report issues on the app, press Continue when press Support/Continue but nothing happens. So I guess I try and post the issue here: My KEF W2 will not play sounds from my Samsung TV NU7100 HDMI ARC, all settings are correct (input pcm, output pcm, hdmi arc connection, anynet+ enabled, TV source selected, output HDMI Receiver, try plugging on and off, restart tv, speakers, etc... ). These were the settings for my Bose soundbar earlier which plays nicely. Please fix this. Or maybe I have a bad speaker.
Installation app did the job. It’s still missing full EQ functionality that’s listed in the online manual but you can get the job done. It’s odd that you are required to input a subwoofer low pass frequency even if you don’t have a subwoofer attached. System froze when i tried to do a required firmware update. I don’t know if problem was with the app or otherwise. Streaming portion of the app needs a lot of work to be user friendly. Streaming Amazon HD or Tidal within the app has minimal search functionality and very little metadata display. For example, there is no way to tell what resolution the file is playing. A saving grace is that Tidal Connect is available so you can avoid Kef connect for streaming. Tidal connect app also has its issues but it is miles ahead. An iPad version of the App would be nice. I hope the app will improve over time since the LS50 Wireless II sound quality is excellent.
The only way to reliably use my speakers is with airplay. This app either won’t find the speakers or when I try to play something, it just takes me back to the previous screen.
Can’t update from 1.2 to 1.5 firmware. Tried resetting the speaker multiple times, even left them unplugged for hours and tried it. It’s a shame this company who can build a great sounding speaker can’t hire a mobile app developer and a firmware engineer that can produce a stable update.
The LS50wII have great sound, specially paired with a KC62. The app is usable, but the setup and config could be a lot better. Speakers work great for Tidal and AirPlay. HDMI is very unstable, will disconnect every 10 minutes, then have to reset. Also, if HDMI if control is enabled, speakers will turn on randomly.
iOS 17.1.1 on iPhone pro max. Crashes upon opening. Can’t update firmware or see any settings. Please fix the app. Would love to update my review but this is atrocious. Bought LS50 Wireless II’s and KC62 subwoofer that seem almost unusable currently.
This app has intermittenly worked on mac os with an M1. Maybe with a recent os update, the app will launch but won't allow me to select a speaker. iOS works.
It’s obvious KEF knows the speaker biz, but no idea on how to develop a user friendly and properly functioning app. I have the LS50 Wireless II with KEF a subwoofer and I keep on loosing my Bluetooth connection and the WiFi is flaky. I’m using the iPhone 13 pro. Please find an experienced professional software development company that can figure it out for you (UI and code)
Frankly I expected a better app for price I paid for the speakers (ls50 wireless ii). It’s pretty sluggish navigating Amazon Music, and it would really be great if they made an iPad version. It also sometimes “loses” the speakers when changing music sources For now I’m streaming through the much more responsive Amazon app. Nice sounding speakers though!
