I had a small hiccup when attempting to connect one of the 9 smoke detectors in my home with the app. Called customer support and their suggestion that I put the detector back on the bracket to do the wifi setup did the trick. I have a few things I’d like to see improved in the app- I look at the air quality data often and love the hourly histogram. It would be great if I could see histogram at hourly interval for a longer than 24 hour window. Also while looking histogram data there’s no label on the view showing what room it is, you have to back up to an earlier screen to see the room name. Overall this system has features I like over the nest- I can get detectors for smoke, AQI and with or without CO. Since my house is all electric I opted to get detectors that don’t do CO, but I’m very keen on keeping track of AQI since we have a very tight house. Google nest can’t deliver that. All their detectors are combo smoke and CO. No other combinations / choices possible.
Our Nest alarm went bad so I looked at this new alarm from Kidde at Home Depot cause it was much cheaper - overall works really well. Setup was easy with the camera scan - like that I can have it set it up for my kids to get notified if there is a fire. Saw some reviews that app was outdated from a while back…looks alright now, it was easy to find settings and everything. Also was ready to connect out of the box - firmware update was kinda annoying but downloaded quick after setup. Will probably add Water leak product soon
Was looking for a Smart smoke alarm to add to my smart home suite of products - and must say the Kidde alarms work well. Like other smart products the 2.4 gHZ thing was an issue but app made it clear this was needed during setup so I was able to connect. SMS notification for smoke and co events is really nice - gives me confidence I’ll be notified through different means. With daylight saving changing, the news reminded me to test my alarms - it was nice to be able to do that easily in the app. Would recommend
I got smart detectors with 10 year battery because our old system was due to be replaced. I was out of town and for the last 2 nights I started getting false alarms late at night in the app, followed by phone calls from my angry wife and terrified children. Despite there being no smoke, and the devices being clean as a whistle when I got home, the app was telling me there was "too much smoke to hush" the alarms. They were just installed in April, and there is zero smoke in the house. Today while trying to troubleshoot the app it was updated and now they want me to sign up for a plan to view air quality data that I already paid a premium for when choosing the device. Avoid Kidde products and the app. This is worse than the MyQ debacle, in my opinion.
It would be amazing to be able to get an alert when you are not home that your alarm is going off, the user could set up an automation to indoor camera or some other “noise” detector which would enable you to check in remotely if there is a real fire emergency (or false alarm) in order to take quicker action. When you’re not home in these use cases you’re pretty hosed (yes call emergency services if fire) or in false alarm scenario hope you have a good neighbor that’s home that could come over and disable for you. My other concern is the app doesn’t always keep me logged on even with FaceTime enabled so would the user get an alert if the alarm goes off?
Requires way too much information to connect smoke detectors. Why do you have to have my location. also, why require camera access, but i can add a device without it. I didn't even finishing adding the first device as they must be making money selling personal information. Its the only reason, they need to so much access to let people use the features of a smoke detector... my response to developer response: apparently you haven't actually used your app because without precise location it will not let the final parts of adding the smoke detector go through. also, the app requires a complete address not just a zipcode. Button will not ungray without it. please stop making false replies to poor reviews.
Iphone 15 pro - can't type in app! Wifi on detector terrible
you literally have to type any text in a browser copy then paste it into the app. Like when naming a new detector that you’re adding. Or adding my address when I set it up. Every line had to be written in different app copied pasted. Something is very wrong with this app. Also the drop-down for where the room is stuck on kitchen you can’t drop down at all. I don’t know who’s engineering or coding this, but they haven't updated in ages. additionally, on the smoke detector it is literally sitting right in front of my eero access point. And it shows two bars for this device on the eero app. And no bars on the kidde app. Firmware needs to be badly updated on these things. Can I even rely on this?
The device itself seems pretty solid; however, the app functionality is poor. Easy to set up devises. App randomly logs me out which disables the alarm notifications via app. App doesn’t provide a low battery warning. Batteries seem to drain quickly. Disappointed given that these devices were purchased to be a critical first line of defense for my home from leaks and water damage.
(EDIT: Kidde I see others have named devices yet they come up “unknown” in app. Is there a fix? ) I have about 9 of these. They still go off at random times. All are about a year or so old. The funny thing is in the app the devices are named and I can test. Yet when something goes off (which makes them all go off) the timeline in the app shows all devices as “unknown name”. So it’s impossible to see what device triggered them all. Also some have a smoke level of 0, some have 3 and some have 6. I am not sure what these mean but there is no smoke anywhere. So they are quirky to use.
Nothing comes up after fresh install to be able to choose a device to add… making the Wi-Fi connected device in-usable. Please fix ASAP! *Update - the developer was quick to respond to this issue and gave me a workaround with the promise that this will be fixed in the next update. Thank you! Great customer service and the app is working well for me now.
A solid app that allows me to check on my detectors that are connected to my wifi. It tell me when things drop a connection or when there are concerns to take care of. Overall, I’m happy with it. I don’t think I was that concerned of things like fire, carbon monoxide, and leak detectors, but I kinda have to be concerned now that app to control the devices, it’s become more up front… a good thing.
You think testing the detectors would be a basic function of the detectors and app ecosystem. Unfortunately when pressing the test button on a detector you will receive a stream of notifications from “unknown” devices (11 detectors in my install though the number of notifications appears to be random). How can the detectors be unknown if “smart” and named? My guess is a very underfunded product team is forced to release incomplete products. I’m now left to wonder if the actual detectors are as pathetic as the software. I would look at other “smart” options if you are interested in a more functional product.
Recently purchased a Smoke Carbonixde and air quality alarm and Water Leak device at the Home Depot - overall pretty easy setup…Quick start guide was helpful to have on hand along with instructions in app. Love the hush feature in the app, I’ve got a high ceiling where I installed this so I don’t need to worry about a ladder or anything to resolve.
Does not work at all. Junk UX asking to name my room and then naming my room selector again makes no sense. Took forever to connect and I have 400 mps. Then tells me once its set up I can’t ping to test it because it is on different networks… it’s not. Then started pinging anyway and could not turn it off. When I try it again for the tenth time won’t connect to their network to connect to mine. Awful piece of crap. Oh yeah the crew feature is about as clunky as you can make it. Shame because I like Kidde products but this really make me rethink ever buying this brand again
Got the flagship smoke detector with air quality ac4010acsco_w_2581 two years ago. Always struggled to connect and keep connected, finally works now. The air quality data is never tracked or stored, you can only view the momentary level it seems to update about 2-3 times per day based on notifications I get off status changes. Update: i have been looking there daily for over a year, i am connected to wifi and the reading is always up to date but no historical record exists. I would love to send you screenshots of my empty graphs.
So far this CO/IAQ monitor has been very helpful to see trends in air quality. My only complaint would be the lack of detailed history for the data while using the app. Would love to be able to see an hour by hour chart showing the IAQ readings.
We have 6 hardwired Kidde smoke/CO2 detectors. Installation was simple. Two days later, four of the units mysteriously “lost connection to the cloud” and wouldn’t come back online. I have tried everything. I removed them and tried to reconnect: but the app just says I’m entering the wrong wifi password. (Note: it is the CORRECT wifi password.) I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling. I’ve tried to reconnect these units close to 20 times… and they just won’t connect to the wifi. However, two of the units are still connected. I tried phoning tech support (after wasting nearly an hour on this project) and they said I should just try everything I’ve already done: uninstall the app; remove then try reconnecting the alarms—nothing works. Unfortunately we already threw out the packaging or I’d be returning these units. Very disappointed and frustrated.
The keyboard does not pop up when filling in the questions for adding a device. The only way to enter text is by copying it from another app and pasting it into the Kiddie app. I recommend the developers use the current revision to set up a new device with a new account to identify these issues. I’m surprised this wasn’t fully tested.
My only complaint is that if this goes off while I am not home but my fiancé is I cannot hush the system even if I’m on the phone with her. Our alarms are high on the ceiling and she is not getting a ladder to silence them. I understand that it doesn’t make sense to hush it is you are not home in most cases (if there was a fire how would you know) but I’m specific cases like mine it would be nice to shut it off for her.
Everything works great until the internet or power went out. Everything came back on great. But the alarm when it went off the next time didn’t alert me on my phone. Because it never reconnected to the internet. THERE IS NO WAY IN THE APP TO RECONNECT IT TO THE INTERNET. THERE IS NO WAY TO REMOVE YOUR DEVICE FROM THE APP TO REINSTALL WITHOUT DELETING YOUR ENTIRE PROPERTY. Customer service was no help. Come on guys this isn’t rocket science. Everything else in the house reconnected to the internet without issue but not Kiddie.
Installed for a couple months and have had no issues. nice improvements with the app over the last couple months - wish there was a way to automate the air quality with my humidifier tho. Google home connect is nice
Bought two of the smoke co2 air quality alarms - setup was good, no issues. Air quality dashboard is easy to read, like the trends. Firmware update after the install timed out but worked second time. Installed in NC no issues with the wiring or plate.
I am keep getting false alarms and this app freez when there is an beep. Also when u test same thing happen. Not clear button or hush button work. It’s like I am keep trying both button to make this stop but not sure which button work. Using iPhone multiple family member having same issue. iPhone 14 pro max and 13 . These phone we are using. I am writing this at 12:15 am in the middle of the night this just happened.
After opening the app and signing in I see a screen with “Begin building your home safety network by adding a device below.” There is nothing listed and nothing to click. When I toggle from account to dashboard I just see the same screen under dashboard. This makes it impossible to set up my detector. Same thing after multiple reinstalls and on my iPhone 11 and iPad Pro tablet. I’m still waiting for a call back from tech support.
I’m an app developer- this app works well, setup was smooth. Water leak device is perfect for my crawl space - had a burst pipe tears back but didn’t know the battery was dead on my detector. This has the Wi-Fi and tells you when batteries dead
Have had Kidde alarms for years - good products - added a smart one to my home couple months ago. App works well - text notifications and adding my wife to get notified is good feature
The app consistently fails to properly communicate with the devices. While pushing firmware updates the app fails forcing a series of additional issues. The detectors have their own slew of issues. Definitely having buyers remorse at this poor design, poor app recovery, and lack of integrations with other apps to allow users to not have to rely on this poorly functioning app.
I had my batteries go out on my Kidde water and freeze detector. After putting them back in it didn’t connect so I deleted it and tried to reconnect. The recently updated app says there is an error and so far hasn’t allowed me to reconnect my device after many resets. Hopefully this bug is fixed soon.
We had no idea that cooking caused severe air quality issues. And it depends on how and what cooker is used. Our pressure cooker polluted our air quality just by boiling water
I like the app and I’m using it for water and freeze detection. The only issue I’ve had with it is when you change it from fahrenheit to celsius in the app the temp changes Celsius but it still shows the F not the C
Developer gimped app to gouge customers with new subscription plan
It seems the app has been modified such that users with air quality monitors must now drill down to get specific readings for TVOC and humidity. Now, developer is trying to charge a subscription fee to get that information on the new dashboard, information that was previously free. Super shady. I’ll remember this when I replace my devices with another brand.
I replaced the old detectors with Kidde detectors. Unbelievable easy to setup and monitoring just with this App in my Phone! Easy to follow up for safety and know status before City inspection.
I replaced my old hard wired units with the smoke IAQ meters - now I get IAQ reading in my whole house besides the smoke alarm - which is huge plus - the extra bucks for the IAQ was worth it. The installation was easy.
Text entry is not available when entering WiFi password, has to input password in Apple password then autofill into your app, same thing happened again when naming the device
I could not connect bluetooth on iphone, so didnot connect to kidde smoke alarm , this app needed an update and they have now fixed it and all is working now,
I have been a firefighter for 15 years and there is no brand that causes more false alarms than Kidde. They’re advancements in technology with WiFi connectivity have only made the problem worse and more difficult for homeowners to trouble shoot. I have 3 rental properties and I have thrown away hundreds of dollars due to Kidde smoke alarms malfunctioning. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.
The recent change made to this app is HORRIFIC! I bought Kidde monitors for 3 rooms because I like to monitor humidity, etc. Now I have to go through multiple steps to get that information. Only bought 2nd and 3rd monitor bc I liked the app. Wish I could return all 3. Terrible business move.
The app seems very clunky and not intuitive; difficult to maneuver through the app. It doesn’t filter for the specifics you need for the specific device you are using. I like Kidde and have faith in Kidde, so hopefully they will work on this…seems a little behind the curve. I am using the water leak and freeze detector .
Product seems to work great but the app wants to Constantly log me out and if I’m logged out I will not get notifications. Unless you check the app every half hour to see if you’re logged in then the whole setup Seems useless. Very unfortunate.
After 6 months of trouble free connectivity device disconnected with no way to reconnect unless you can transport back to 2001 and have a 2ghz only router!!!!! Very embarrassing, please revert last regression in app to fix this. Telling customers they need a router with separate 2ghz ssid is a very poor excuse in 2023.
Installing the Kidde smoke detector was a breeze, but the accompanying app is a nightmare. Trying to set up my device was an exercise in frustration – I had to resort to using autofill and text scan because the app refused to provide a keyboard for manual input. It's a shame that such a simple task became needlessly complicated due to the app's poor design.
