Possible extension

Fun app, really useful for introducing us to names we might not have known about/considered otherwise. An idea for a possible extension — the app is currently great for identifying names you and your partner both like, but it doesn’t help you decide between them. What we just wound up doing was taking a “long-short” list of names we both liked and generating a ranking using pairwise comparisons, which helped us narrow it down more systematically than trying to think through 25 names separately. That seems like the kind of thing that would be straightforward to implement in-app? In any case, definitely just a nice-to-have feature, not a need-to-have.

Simple, Convenient, Helpful

This app is super simple which is fun. It’s run by one person, so it makes sense it doesn’t have tons of bells and whistles. It would be even more convenient if you could click on a name to look up its meaning and pronunciation. I would probably pay for that! This app gets five stars because it works great for what it is. :)

Fun way to explore a huge selection of names

This is such a great, easy way to see what you and your partner like in names. I love that you can select different cultures/languages too. The only thing I wish was different is that there is no information given on the names. You swipe left or right on the name, but you can’t click on it to find out which language it’s coming from or what it means or anything. If you have more than one language chosen at one time, there is no way to tell which one the name is coming from. I keep having to Google names that it suggests. But it’s still a good starting point!

Good, could be better

Have had this app for a month or so. At first the match feature was working, it has disappeared recently. Has a large-ish pool of names, but the types of names in the base app do not inspire me to purchase expansions, as many of the names seem odd to me. A nice-to-have feature would be meaning of the names on the cards as well. Overall we have used this to our expectations over other apps, but I have had to do my own research as well and add potential names to our deck. Want the match function to work again.

Really great but could be better

Love the app so far but my wife can’t see our matches for some reason. Also I highly suggest a “super like” option. That would help sort the “yeah I kinda like that” from the “that’s one of my favorites’” and also (more importantly I think) give the ability to override one partner’s “eh not my favorite” with the other’s “I love it!” And allowing more conversation about that name rather than it going by the wayside because of one person’s indifference.

Who did it send my partner invitation to?

I was really excited to use this app after somebody recommended it to me. I got my account set up and chose the option to send my partner an invitation to join me and go through baby names together - but the app just sent an invitation without getting any info about my partner or who to send the invitation to. When I check the section for sending the partner the invitation, there’s no option to re-enter info, just an option to resend it. Who got my invitation? It’s supposed to be my partner, not a stranger, or maybe worse if thought an ex was my partner (because it’s connected to my Google account and I don’t know if that has outdated info somewhere on that account.) Honestly I’m just upset that some stranger/or potential ex partner is getting the invitation (and gives away information suggesting that I’m pregnant to people who have no business in my pregnancy) and the app won’t let me fix or edit it.

Best Name App I’ve Tried

This is the third baby name app I tried and why I like it better than others: 1. I didn’t have to create an account to use it. 2. There’s tons of names. Seemed like other baby name apps showed you the same 100 names over and over again. 3. I didn’t have to buy up the plan to get more names.

Found a name

After being undecided and deciding between three names for many months with no conclusion.. I downloaded this app the month my daughter was due. I found a whole new name that I love and has good meaning - Eliana. That’s her name now. Thank you very much. Very happy I stumbled upon this.

Very random names

I would be very curious to find out how they decided which names to include as it seems very random and very limited. It seems to me it would be easy enough to include the top 1000 US names as released by the SSA. As other reviews have said, a lot of the names from other cultures are inaccurate as well. It’s a neat concept and it’s kind of fun to get conversations started, but in reality the actual names in their database are an extremely random selection.

Great app. Played with a couple of similar ones. I appreciate the “back” button and the ability to add your own names for a partner to have come up in their feed.

Wonderful app - super fun and useful. But I ran through the library of names in about 15 minutes. It would be awesome to be able to import more names from other websites!

More fun than Tinder

This is a fun app to use with your partner. I bought an extra packet of names but I still feel like there are many missing. I would like to be able to export the names matched, or at least select and copy them.

Several issues

You start to see the names over and over, so the app doesn’t actually retain your dislikes. Also, there is a setting to choose the gender but it doesn’t work and continues to show names for both genders. Lastly, I was unable to easily sync with my partner, so everything that drew me to this app ended up not working. Not sure why it has so many 5 star reviews!

Cute but app crashes

The concept is cute. We went through the original pack of names pretty quickly so I purchased the packs. The app proceeded to crash, won’t reopen, and I can only assume I’ve lost all my likes and such associated with it. I don’t see any way to contact the app developer outside of the app either so that’s frustrating.

Hardly any names!!

Well what a waste - I thought I’d use this one over another because you could add names of your own to the likes list for your partner to see and in 12 hours apparently I’ve seen “all” the girls names??! Completely stupid - Several duplicates seen and there must have been only 100 options. I’ve only opened the app 3 times! Don’t bother

Can’t connect with partner

My wife and I have been using this thinking we would find matching names we like but the app never shows us matches. We have looked at each others likes and we have several that match but the app does not show them in the match tab.

Fun, could be better

The app is a fun thing to share with my partner. What would make this a 5 star app is if the listed names also included meanings/definitions/translations/language of origin.

Feels like an incomplete project and a 0/10 app

Nightmare experience trying to use this. Partner connection doesn't work, then doesn't allow you to link two existing accounts once logged in. This feels like an incomplete beta staging environment rather than a fully functioning app. Cannot express how incomplete and unusable this app is.

Expensive

We really liked it because see we were having issues agreeing on names. Then we found out after the first list you have to pay a dollar for each new list. A book of names is about 12 dollars for 100,000 names. Not paying a dollar per 50 names.

What kind of names are these…

Not sure where this app is sourcing it’s names from, but they are either just plain boring or weird. I swiped for 10 minutes and didn’t see potential in a single one. I know it’s not that serious but I thought it would be at least a little bit helpful.

Buffington

I don’t understand how an app can have such awful names. My wife and I even bought an expansion pack and spent 2 hours trying to find some halfway decent names. Literally first google results are better. If you want to select a name from random Wikipedia page like Buffington, this may be a great app for you.

This app used to be great

In the early days of the app there was a plethora of names and it was fun and easy to use. Now it’s impossible to connect with your partner, always an internet connection issue and you need to pay each each name set.

Womp womp just for the straights

The opening intro slides have icons indicating a straight couple. For queer parents-to-be, like me, this is a big turn off. I ended up going with another very similar app that isn’t so exclusionary.

Needs a bug fix

Enjoyed at first but as soon as I paid to add more collections of names now the app immediately shuts down when I open it.

Gender filter broken

This app is nice and everything you need EXCEPT the filter for name gender DOES NOT WORK! I select boy, save and then it immediately resets and goes back to any gender and shows me girl names again.

Doesn’t link to partner

Disappointed in this app. Doesn’t link to partner as it states. Just gives an error if you try to link. Names are so so.

Not enough names

There’s like 200 boy names it let me see. I had it for an hour or two before running out. Waste of time.

Tiny name selection for additional language in-app purchase

Extension packs are a rip off

I bought an extension pack with — wait for it — no names. When I bought it, I sorted for just that language, and it produced 0 names. Rip off, fraudulent money grab.

Doesn’t work

Matches don’t share with each other, the lists of likes and dislikes glitch all the time. Gender select doesn’t stick.

I enjoy the app but I wish there was a way to reset your selections or switch to new list for a different kid

Very limited free version

There are about 100 names in the free version. My partner and I went through them in 30 minutes. Also no name origin or meanings.

Good idea, but unusable

I told the app to generate boy names, and after a few, it goes back to all gender names. Additionally, I specified English names, and it gives me a lot of Spanish ones.

Don’t buy the expansions

The basic app is great, but the expansions are a joke. Paid $1 and it had 3 names in it. What a complete ripoff.

Clara is not a guys name ever... and I wish they added pronunciation to the names.. also I want to see the name with my middle name

Kinder is a super simple name choosing app. Through Kinder you can quickly swipe name suggestions you like to the right and dismiss the ones you don’t like. You get one name set for free based on your location and if you want you can easily buy additional name sets for a small fee. You can connect to your partner to find matches. Purchased name sets will also be available for your partner. Kinder has over 18.000 names in the library with a grand variety in origins so you can find that unique name that your child will write history with!   FAQ’s I can’t connect to my partner, please help! If you can’t connect it might be that the connection code is expired. Please try to invite each other once more. If that doesn’t help it might be your time settings; those must be set to automatic, otherwise the connection mechanism can’t connect you unfortunately. I don’t see our matches! We try to update matches every 30 seconds. So please bear with us! If after that time you still don’t see them, please try to restart the app. If I purchase a name set, will my partner also get these?  Yes! It might not show up in a split second, but if you’re connected purchases will be shared. I bought a new phone, what will happen with my Kinder likes? We are very sorry, unfortunately we don’t have a feature to save your likes, dismisses and matches just yet. We are working on a solution to save these though. Who runs Kinder?  Kinder is app started by me; Krijn Haasnoot. I’m a Dutch guy who had an idea after having dinner with a couple of friends years ago. They were having their first child and my question was: ‘How do you find a name?’. Their answer was: ‘Probably some books, the internet, family’. I immediately thought, ‘that can be more fun’ and I came up with the idea of using an intuitive swipe like selection mechanism used by another app, but than with baby names! And it should be able to match likes between partners!’ I don’t think Kinder is the end solution to choose the name for your child, I just hope to inspire, get the discussion going in a positive way and help out! Having a baby is a fun, sacred, but also tiring and possibly stressful time. Let’s take a small thing out and make it nicer. As you can read, Kinder is just a small one-man company.
