KSAT 12 Weather Authority

Love the app, but what does a person want to see as soon as they open the app? I want to know “What is the high and the low going to be today”? On the new version for the iphone, there’s no place to see this on the opening screen. You can read it in the narrative (kind of) but it doesn’t show up on the top section which shows the current temp... nor does it show up in the second section which has a snapshot for the day including UV index, dew point and visibility. The SEVENTH section shows the NEXT five days but not today. The only way to see today’s high and low is to go to the FIFTH section and click on the “next 10 days”. There you can see today’s high and low. Can you please add it to one of the top two sections?

I use this app daily; often several times a day when rain or inclimate weather is headed my way. 90% of that use was to track precipitation and storm activity down to the street level of friends an family across the countr. . The new radar interface has been dumbed down to the point of ridiculous and looks like a child’s radar map. It is drab, no matter how you set it. The location pins are too large and there is no way to set one pin at a time for display. If you have several favorites defined, you have have all of them displayed with their big obtrusive bubbles or none. Although we have a powerful hurricane headed in our direction, you cannot see it reflected on the map unless you have it set to shoe the satellite version, then you only see clouds. If you looked at the radar set on national map in this app, it looks like the Caribbean an the gulf are free of storms. I do love all of Ksats weather folks, and they do a great job, but I don’t have time to sit and listen and watch. I need a robust radar map that I can do a quick check to see what is coming and from where. This new map is useless to me. I will be looking for an alternative.

The redesign of this app seems ill advised as it’s now less intuitive and feels like unnecessary bloat was added. New radar only showing a short past history seems odd, sure some might say why do you need to know what the radar looked like three hours ago but during severe weather events having a history of the track of the storms can be of use to many if not just to see any strengthening or weakening of the system. Possibly the biggest detrimental change was having the written forecasts become a link to the KSAT website itself and no longer imbedded within the app for quick reading. All this is doing is requiring more resources to be used as the app now loads a web browser to show the report which in the end is usually a simple but informative paragraph. Having that on the front “page” of the old app ready to go once it loaded was great for those that just needed to know what the outlook for the day was. Other recent reviewers have said they are switching apps and I don’t blame them for doing so when something as simple as gaining some weather information seems to be less important for a weather app.

UPDATE: FIRST TIME IN WELL OVER 10 YEARS THIS AP WILL NOT BE ON MY FAMILY & BUISNESS PHONES ! NEW DESIGN IS JUST TOO BUGGY, UNRELIABLE, & STATION OWNERS JUST DONT APPARENTLY CARE. Here are just a few issues with this new design. JUST FIND A DIFFERENT WEATHER SOURCE. THIS ONE IS SPENT ! First design is clunky! Dropped frames latency in apps. emphasis on adds and NOT WEATHER! Loaded with cookies and trackers. In a time where people want more privacy you load it down with cookies and trackers. You no longer allow the addition of “Community’s”. which totally excludes those of us that travel or that do not use the ap IN San Antonio. There are places I travel that I before could get a local report now you have me getting a location and report in a totally different biome over an hour away by plane! You didn't port ANY of our info from the old ap! You added an overlay feature to see power outages?! Nobody asked for that ? People could just got to those sites. These changes are dumb they are bad and need to be rethought ! Your hurricane ap is messed up too now btw. Whoever approved these changes and thought it was a good idea to change what WAS NOT broke really shouldn't be allowed to even go unescorted even to the lavatory ever again!

Woke up. Opened KSAT weather app as I do every morning and WoW! What a disaster! Unattractive, Cluttered, Uninformatuve at first glance and I don’t have time to navigate around, so I just deleted app as I did the KSAT News app a few months ago when they “updated” that. I don’t know who your tech support guys are but I do know they should be fired and replaced. WeatherBug is now my go to app though even the 4zone weather app is much, much better as far important information at your fingertips quickly. I no longer use the KSAT news app; I now don’t use the weather app and I’ve recently changed channels for local broadcasts because KSAT reports on irrelevant events for long periods in the broadcast and then repeats the reports for at least 3 days and reruns entire broadcasts over the weekend. LAME! Another reason I won’t watch any longer is because their new young news broadcaster can’t get through a segment without giggling like a 3 year old toddler at the end of Lomas every report. Good grief, get some mature adults on air and send the toddlers back to preschool!!

I like the numerous updates to the weather conditions and predictions throughout the day. The predictions are reliable, so that I can plan my day, plus it’s very interesting to see the updates that lightning was detected, say, 4 miles away, and then one mile away, and then nearby, and to feel the thunder as those strikes occurred. The same with notifications about rainfall, or snow, or whatever precipitation is in the air, and wind gust alerts. Having the various radar maps available is quite handy, as well as getting notifications of current conditions, and of the pollen counts when available. This is a very useful app!

The app was easy to read and navigate before. I definitely do NOT like the fact that I now have to scroll horizontally to see the weather for the day! It needs to go back to the vertical on this. I also have issues now with it not scrolling smoothly. It keeps catching for a few seconds as I'm trying to scroll which, when combined with the horizontal scroll where I have to scroll a lot more to see the days forecast, makes it extremely annoying! It looks pretty but I'm assuming that to get this update paid for you had to add all the excessive pop up ads. Overall, I'm thinking about deleting this app. It is no longer as user friendly and convenient! Update on review: I finally deleted this app! I really used it a lot until everything changed! I miss the ease of seeing the daily forecast and temperature. It is not as easy to read. When you change it back, I'll download it again. Until then, I'm done with it! I

Love the KSAT weather team, but I’ve had a LOT of problems with this app. Best Feature: updates from the local meteorologists. Problems: —The app defaults on opening to the map. I don’t want the map first. I want the forecast first. Always. There doesn’t appear to be any way to make the app open with the forecast. Every other app opens with the forecast, which is, of course, the whole reason you have a weather app. —“Current Location” option on the app does not always update, so it will give you the wrong forecast. —It’s often buggy trying to add cities/locations and won’t add them if you select what it thinks is the wrong location option for a city. —Right now it will not add Houston, TX as a location. I have to choose one of the airports (the only 2 options it gives) and it will not let me generically select “Houston” when it has allowed that in the past. Same problem for other cities. —It will only save about 4-5 locations. If you go beyond that, it deletes previously saved cities. I travel and need many locations. Other apps let you have as many locations as you want. As much as I really, really love the KSAT team, for the time being, I’ll probably have to use a different weather app as my go-to. 😢

Overall the app is a great asset. Pretty easy to use. I would love to have a separate section for live broadcast. I know you put a link on the “home” tab but it gets lost in other text and pre recorded video forecasts. The thing that distinguishes reporting for me is the live component so I can hear from moment to moment what I need to know. My other suggestion is to think critically of keeping ads on live videos. This is weather and a few minutes could save someones life. We shouldnt have to sit through an ad if we need immediately to hear this news. Please continue to help us to stay safe by eliminating ads and allowing us to directly access the live content. Thank you!

I’ve used your weather app for several years and loved it. I’ve tried working with the new one and have changed settings but it won’t keep my changes. I just want the radar once it comes up. I’m not interested in all the links you have below featuring the actual broadcast and other stuff. Needless to say there’s another station that has one similar to your old one you had that I’ll be using instead. But I’ve loved the old when you did have it.

This new update is not user friendly. The radar settings are clunky and confusing. Having to sift through three different tabs to get the information you want displayed on the radar is annoying, the old version was much easier to navigate. I would appreciate the storm tracker/direction function to re-appear again. The “Home” site is way too loaded with information and makes difficult to get the information you are looking for, again this was much better with the previous app. I personally don’t want to get directed to the KSAT connect function, it would be nicer to have that in the menu. The menu is nicely organized but that’s the only positive I can tell so far. I’ve been using this app for 8 years now and this update makes me want to delete it and only use WeatherBug and RadarPro

Horrible upgrade from previously great, simple to use & view KSAT weather app. This one is just the opposite. A horribly laid out, use-unfriendly app that puts advertising for bucks ahead of user experience. Who wants to scroll up and down to view hourly and daily synopsis? Not me, and I’m sure not tons of others. The same with what was an almost perfect weather radar that was front and foremost the best festure on the app. Now the radar is just as worthless and user-unfriendly as the rest of the app. In fact, even worse. It’s huge and they’ve incorporated a scroll and enlarge Apple app feature that make it incredibly hard to use and view. And the rest of the app is just as useless. What the hell were you thinking KSAT weather-meister? I don’t know but Its not working. This app needs to be replaced and KSAT needs a new weather-meister!

Thank you KSAT Weather Team, for always being consistent! Each weather cast member is equipped with excellent knowledge and skill sets. However, neither one ever contradicts the other, (trust me I look for that). All members are on the same page, which only proves Teamwork and consistency. I can only hope your Team STAYS TOGETHER as a family, as you are already FAMILY to my Family and everyone one who watches you in South Texas.

The new version is not user friendly at all. The written forecast updates they used to have was wonderful for those who couldn’t watch videos all day, now they are just a few very unhelpful words. Before, you could look at any location and get the information for it. Now you have to add the location to your map and then you can’t take it off. They made all the screens dark or black and there’s no way to see it in colors again, so now I can’t hardly see it. The only screen you can adjust the colors and settings is the radar. I emailed for help the day it came out trying to find things and never got a response. Why mess with a good thing?

Weather is ever hanging, and being informed is critical at times of crisis. I live the way the KSAT Team work past typical working hours during storms to assist the public. They take their job seriously, and I like the way they forecast the “next 48 hours” option of Weather hour by hour. As a Caregiver it is important for medical equipment & issues to stay informed.

Prefer the app prior to this overhaul. To many clicks to see what used to be one click. They tried to hard. It’s cumbersome. Bloated. The UI is not friendly. Also there is no estimated wind speeds showing for the future cast. Only place I see wind speeds is at the current time. For someone who does road cycling I like to know what the wind speeds will be for a day or 2 ahead. The have this when they report on air so don’t see why it can’t be incorporated into the app. The app overhaul really leaves much to be desired. The old version had more info and was easier to navigate. The whole “next 48 hours” is lame. Hour by hour is annoying to read and should be given as an option. I hate to go back to weatherbug but at this point it definitely does a better job then this version of ksat’s weather app. It has its own issues but overall is better. I’ll have to check back after a few more version updates to this app.

I’ve been using this app just over a year and I’ve loved it. Much better (and more accurate) than the default Weather app the iPhone comes with. But the new update that came out today is very busy visually. Of course everyone hates change, but the old interface was so simple and easy to navigate. The only “change” I really wanted was a widget for my lock screen but it doesn’t look like that’s an option still.

Whether We are at home or traveling, this app keeps us up-to-date. My husband travels three days a week and it doesn't matter what city he is in he can always keep up with the latest weather in that area. At home it keeps us up-to-date on upcoming storms and warnings. We have deleted all other weather apps and rely on this one alone. This app beats out the national weather app by a country mile. Thanks !!!!!!

Every time I use the app it sits there forever with a little circle going around and around right in the middle where I live and I have a hard time really seeing anything. The page won’t move or do anything. I have removed it and added the app again and for one or two cycles it is fine then it happens again. I have to go to Kens after that. KSAT has always been my favorite station but this is getting me down.

Good in Christ! Edmundo Ramon Losoya; everything looks fine with the weather station in San Antonio. The weather crew there is excellent. I look forward to watch at KSAT12 for many years to come. I hope I will be old and wise someday and I will still be able to watch this station to the fullest. I hope I am writing sufficient words to write a good review. The KSAT weather team does way more than report weather. They actually explain the “why” of weather. Weather reports are like mini meteorology lessons. Viewers are being educated about all aspects of weather and climate. The team is very knowledgeable and professional in their reporting with lots of personality as an added plus. You all are the BEST.

This is my first time writing a review for an app and I had to go to AppStore and search. I really like having the daily notifications and the personalization from your staff and the funny/unique San Antonio commentary around the weather. I love getting the notifications to with what’s approaching weather wise and advisories. Tbh best weather app out there for my city.

It’s not as good as it was before. I am out in Bandera and I need to know what the weather forecast is mostly in case it freezes. But I cannot change locations all I can get is San Antonio. It use to be When I click San Antonio I was able to choose another location but now it just stays SanAntonio. They recently sent another satellite up into outer space maybe a year ago that was supposed to improve weather forecasts but I haven’t seen anything better. Make this more “user friendly” remember that old 90’s term? Yeah, ... it’s more like this is what you get from us enjoy it ... or not.

This has been my only iPad weather app. I've been able to use it even out of town or out of state for San Antonio weather as well as for my current location. It doesn't work for me now. My usual daily and 10-day forecasts appear very different, radar is a quarter screen now, and I tried the earthquake map as well as others: nothing works like it used to. Don't know what happened but I may as well turn on The Weather Channel; it shows at least as much as I'm seeing now on my KSAT 12 Weather Authority App.

As an elderly , knowing what to expect weather wise is very important because our body temperature regulating system is not working up to par and we need to try to dress appropriately so we do not become hyper or hypothermic and your weather reports have been very accurate and reported with enough heads up time to be prepared so yes thank you .

You really should review how you send out alerts, or at least let me turn some off. While I understand it is bad weather right now, I don’t think I should have gotten 30 alerts overnight for 8 hours of sleep. I have gotten at least 10 more in the last 4 hours. Most are redundant information. You only give the option to get alerts or not get alerts. So I am going to delete the app because why have it if I have alerts turned off.

Since they completely changed the look of the app now once you click on a feature like the video weather updates there’s no way to return back to the main screen. This needs a close button in the corner or something. I have to completely exit out of the app and swipe it away just to go back the main screen. Please fix

I love the immediate information received on my KSAT Weather app. I found out the hard way a few years ago right before a bad hail storm. I could’ve put my son’s car in garage and was watching cable. No local news to warn me. Now i have both the weather and news apps to update me all day. I know what’s going on before i get a chance to watch the news!

I LOVED the original app interface. I knew how to find everything, it was very intuitive. However the new update is AWFUL! visually it is so hard to look at, and it is even more difficult to navigate to the weather information you need. I know the original could be buggy at times, but the high contrasting colors, well spread out information, and simple home page on the original interface is what made it so easy to use! now it feels so cluttered, hard to read, and less KSAT-y. I miss the old app ☹️

The latest update was a big overhaul of the app and it’s almost unusable with the number of ads and clunky UI. The design feels like the app was made 20 years ago or that it’s just the framework with several ads per page. The old app had everything right you needed right when you opened it, very little guesswork involved, presented in a clear and concise way. This one focuses more on ads than on the content and it shows. Please fix this or go back to the old design, it’s a huge step back.

I don’t mind advertisements on the bottom or side or have a top banner showing this but to use an advertisement that blocks your entire view of the weather is aggravating. I would think that weather new is a priority rather than a full page advertisement.

Weather channel app was too often incorrect. KSAT was my go to for allergy reports. I decided to try the weather app. It’s good. I even like the little commentary text messages that I get about the weather or upcoming weather events. I will try to silence those, however, I don’t need the disruption. I do like the info.

Once again…. if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I don’t like the new KSAT 12 weather app update at all. I really liked the old version of radar much better and this new app update is a cluttered bunch of nonsense that is much more difficult to negotiate. I used to brag about how accurate and easy it was to use. I’ll be changing to something else.

I thoroughly enjoy Sarah and Katie and even Shorty. They are professional and very intelligent weather people their attitudes and how they work together make it a pleasure to watch. Now I know that they all are truly caring folks including Mike Osterhage. You all Make my day. Thank you for making my life a little brighter each day. GOD BLESS you all at KSAT

Thank you for all you do, with all that y’all do it’s great to see y’all going in and keeping us informed of the weather. KSAT link is so people friendly. I too have to go into work for Northside ISD as a school secretary, so knowing the weather is always a positive way I start my day. Love you all and thank you again.

Your weather app HAD the best radar view that I have ever seen. The updated version that just changed this week is too chunky and the pin is too big. If you don’t revert back to the old look, I’m going to search for a better app.

Used to absolutely love this app and relied on it almost daily. The new app “rebuilt from the ground up” that they are “so proud” to offer, is awful! I absolutely hate it, and I am not the only one. Maybe getting used to it is in order, but I have downloaded 3 new apps in the last couple days hoping to find something better. This review is being posted on 7/8/24 and the app has been new for a few weeks now I think.

I LOVE THIS APP OH MA GAWD! I love watching the news and I LOVVE checking up on accurate weather sources and this source is THE BEST. KSAT is always accurate with their weather and i love that I have a little news weather app on my phone 💁🏻‍♀️. I also love how they add videos explains the weather and how it will be for the week!!!!

When the news app came out a few months ago, I didn’t care for it at all! So used to just read the article and go on to the next one! It automatically starts a video news session and I don’t like that! The saving grace was the weather hadn’t changed! As much as I hate the news app, this new weather app is the final straw. I will be deleting both! Y’all used to be the only site I went to for local news, not anymore. 26 years and I am making a change.

Pop ups slow app down tremendously and cause you to “accidentally” tap on them. On Home Screen ads are just as enraging as the pop ups. They’re so sensitive that when you try to scroll they click instead and take you to some spam website on safari. Overall ok app and horrible abuse of pop up/wallpaper ad links. I’ll be using another local weather app instead.

I used to love this app, it was the first thing I looked at in the morning. I used to be able to get a Quick Look at what was going on with the weather and then quickly dive into details if I needed radar etc. now there is sooo much clutter I have to search and scroll, fight through videos and eventually just give up. My biggest dislike is now it is only on portrait mode. I use it with a laptop mostly and have to rotate the pad on top of the power cord. Bad design!

The previous app version was simple, organized and easy to navigate. I enjoyed the written forecast by the forecasters on duty. And then the update…..it seemed everything was now packed onto the home page. I scrolled down to find written forecasts and nothing. I loitered around a bit but the simple and organized was alluding me. This was my favorite app compared with others I’ve tried but unfortunately someone decided to fix something that wasn’t broke.

The weather team at KSAT 12 gives out up to date weather reports and keeps their audience informed. Love it and thank you for always keeping San Antonio and the surrounding areas informed and ready for weather changes on the horizon.

The new version is so bad. It gives me a black screen sometimes. I restart the app and sometimes that fixes it, sometimes not. It’s so much harder to navigate now. It just seems like it was updated so some programmers could justify their positions. If I view the video weather update, there’s no way to get back to the Home Screen. I have to close the app and reopen. They clearly weren’t considering that someone would have to actually use their app.

The app just updated here for me (June 24’), it is AWFUL! Did yall choose to stop investing into it and instead only focus on increasing your ad revenue?! It is no longer usable, it is filled with overlay ads that repeatedly come up. I DON’T use The Weather Channel app because of this. The build is not user friendly, does not nurture relations in the community, and to top it off it is ugly to boot. I am disgusted and furthermore I am disappointed in KSAT for choosing to steep so low into the gutters. For at least 25yrs I’ve TRUSTED KSAT 12 to keep me and my family safe and informed with the weather. You have broken my trust. I very much would like this relationship repaired, but this responsibility lies solely on the developer and KSAT by their parent company. PLEASE show us you care again!

I watch the video daily for my weather updates, but lately the video ad is almost 2 minutes long!! This is ridiculously long and beats a record for longest required ad to watch. Come on ksat, let’s be realistic. Also, I am getting really disgusted by the multiple and large ear wax ads (with photos of large dirty ear wax) too. It’s disgusting and makes me not want to use your app, even though I love your meteorologists.

I loved this app and used it constantly. The new “from the ground up” rebuild ruined it. It’s visually overwhelming and focuses far less on the information I come to find. I liked the large space dedicated to the weather outlook and being able to scroll straight down to read updates from the meteorologists. I’ll be going back to the weather app that came with my phone.

I LOVED this app but this update is not it. It is cluttered and confusing. I would recommend either going back or rethinking this update. I’ve used this app for years it has actually had pretty significant impact on me as it was EXTREMELY informative and actual let me know when I had a tornado back home when I was out of town a few years back. I would love to not have to switch apps

See the title! The app use to work really well with my iPad, but now it seems like it’s rolled back to 2014 or something. It seems to be optimized for the iPhone and is always in portrait mode (which probably works fine for phones) with no option to fix. Instead of the information being available in the app, all the functions I usually use take me to KSAT’s web site. If this is how it’s going to work, what do I need the app for?

This new app update destroyed everything that was perfect from the old app. I feel it’s disorganized and is way overly cluttered as if the ksat app team were extremely rushed in designing this app. The old app was clearer with information from the meteorologist I loved the blue color. You don’t need 7 tabs to thumb through you get to the temperatures and the radar was all scrollable so you can see and not tab through. I studied a lot in all design and this is just terrible.
