Ongoing issues getting into the setting of my LabRadar through the app. Even with the latest firmware which took forever to come out with, the app still continues to freeze at the loading screen while trying to change/update settings. The LabRadar also has a lot of functionality problems when it comes to subsonic ammo and shooting suppressed where velocities are a huge factor in achieving the correct loads.
While the LabRadar unit itself is nice when you can get it to consistently acquire each shot, the app is just horrible. You can’t do anything without being connected to the unit. So, you’re burning battery while you’re setting up strings, etc. It also disconnects constantly. The only thing you can edit per string is it’s name. Forgot to change the bullet weight in settings? Well, you’re stuck and can’t do a simple edit. For weather conditions, you have to enter manually whereas other apps pull the data from your phone. Switching back and forth between strings fails. When I change back to a prior string on the app, the unit still records to the existing string. For the price of the unit, they really need to fire their app designer and hire someone who knows what they are doing. They need to look to their competitors for good app function. I’m honestly thinking of selling my LabRadar and going back to my ProChrono because Digital Link’s app is light years ahead of LabRadar and was I intuitive and a joy to use. Labradar’s app is just trash and turns a day at the range into a chore.
The annotation functionality is a great implementation. That should have been there from the beginning. Option to ask for bullet weight was good for me. If you could set up a connection to the kestrel Drop or similar that would be icing on the cake…..and then the good times end. It constantly dropped offline, I would create a new series on the phone but it would not take on the unit. I ran 3 sets of the shots all on the phone. On the unit, I had one set of 9. There is no Refresh button at the series level. Trying to find the Arm button was an Easter egg hunt and is not intuitive nor easy to get to even if you know where it is. Pages used to be nested in each other and you could drill down and back. Now they are all separate and it’s annoying to navigate. I gave 1 star because ultimately I put the phone away and just ran everything from the unit. So annoying.
I would have rated the App 5 stars if settings had been easier to find. Had to swipe screen to the left, then settings screen would not stay. After fumbling with screen, finally got it to stabilize and got the settings I wanted. App would be more helpful if initial settings were in English Units, FPS, yards etc. The Arm feature is especially helpful as the Labradar does not get disturbed. Update - the LabRadar app will not change projectile weight from grams to grains. Frustrating! Update - App will change grams to grains, however, App will not change shot series date??? Very frustrating!!!
Old app did the job but was a little clunky and was missing a few things. This new update has added the missing items. New UI allows naming of series and gets useful information front and center. Still some communication issues, had one drop with an hour of use.
I recently installed the LabRadar app update. This update has an annoying bug that duplicates every shot in a series. The data in every shot in a series is recorded twice. I called LabRadar to get some help on this. The voice response system refers callers to a number in Quebec that has another voice response system that goes unanswered. I left a voice message at this number and have not received a call back. Poor customer service.
When I go into settings and try to change any setting such as bullet weight the app crashes and then disconnects from the Labrador. I have to go into the Labrador menu make my changes and then refresh my phone for the changes to register in the phone. Phone does connect every time though. Was hoping for better by switching to iPhone.
So frustrating to use; The UI (user interface) is clumsy and difficult to navigate. I am a professional computer programmer and have designed and written many many front ends. It appears to me that a focus group wasn’t appreciated and much “self referential” (I made it so it works for me;the developer) without end user trials. I too am have difficulty maintaining a connection, so frustrating. It’s easier not to use the iPhone app. ps. Nickname used try again…pfttt So really now only .25 star
This app is better than nothing at all… just barely. The software appears to have been written by a child. Bluetooth connection fails every few minutes, if you turn off tracking via the app, you have to power cycle your Labradar to reconnect. and so on and so on. Labradar need to hire the Vortex Ranger software department to fix this app for them.
I have an older lab radar. Finally, they brought their app up to speed with reality. However, it continues to kick me off the app randomly when perusing settings like the power options. Just about time lab radar gets their act together for as much as they charge this software glitchyness is just unacceptable.
The app freezes a lot and has connection issues when I am the only person around with the device and sitting right next to it. I know the device is capable of providing good quality data but sometimes I try and repeat the data using the same load data and get varying results.
App is somewhat finicky and loses connectivity with device at close range and or freezes while switching between functions or viewing series. At the range it picks up too much adjacent fire which is understandable but when you delete shots from your series that don’t belong to you you shot series summaries do not change.
App works well until the disarm command is given via iPhone 10, then app locks up and will not reset until phone is completely shut down. Deleted and reloaded app but problem still persisted.
1.3.3 was supposed to fix the connectivity issue, just as bad today as it ever was. In a normal session, normally 3-4 hours, I’ll have to stop shooting and reconnect my iPad to the device at least 6-8 times. Totally ridiculous that a company that developed one of the best chronographs on the market can’t hire a developer that is capable of solving the same issue they've had from day one of the app release.
As others have mentioned, the last update created more issues than fixed old ones. App crashes when you try to update settings and whenever you create a new series, the shots still keep being added to the old series. At this point you are better off just using the unit standalone without the App.
Well I’ve had my LabRadar for at least two years and for the most part it worked very well until you upgraded to the new app it’s a piece of crap and should be fixed immediately I’m sorry I’m thinking about buying something else as soon as the next radar system comes out I’m so frustrated with this I could see red.
If I could submit a zero star review I would. This app is totally useless due to their horrible software quality! The app will crash almost every time you make a settings change. I’ve tried multiple devices and its very consistent. The Labradar cost WAY too much for this kind of issue and I am very disappointed.
I just upgraded to 2.5.3 and all of a sudden all the settings simply quit the program or almost all. It connects to the LabRadar fine but when you go to settings and try to adjust them it simply quits. This is unacceptable. It used to work just fine and with this very latest update it plain doesn’t. Please fix this now.
Don’t upgrade, yet. Wait for an update to fix the bugs in the new version.
Don’t upgrade! Really sad they released this new version that is so full of bugs. I was unable to use it for load development. Constantly disconnected, arm button missing, delete a shot is hidden. Wish I didn’t upgrade. Optimistic they are listening and get it corrected.
Could never get the app to communicate with my device. Bluetooth was turned on phone, says it’s connected, but it will not transmit or receive any information. Just keeps saying failed to connect Sidenote, it’s bad when they user nickname you try to use for your account is “disappointed” and it’s already taken!
The labradar itself is awesome. The app works great too, when it works. After it connects, it records for a few shots then disconnects from the Labradar and goes into “known memory mode”. I can reconnect it, but it disconnects after a few more shots.
Used to be a good app. Now it crashes every time I change a setting. It was a four star app but now it’s two stars as it still collects the data but a pain to use.
Any time I try to change a setting from my iPhone, the app crashes and disconnects the unit from the phone. I downloaded and installed the current firmware and deleted and reinstalled the app. Same problem. Extremely frustrating. Major fail, Labradar…
App crashes all the time and when you try to erases single shot from a string app completely crashes and Bluetooth always disconnects and shuts off. App needs a lot of work.
The Arm button gets used the most and yet it is buried on a different menu from everything. At least put THE ARM BUTTON on the Home Screen or one of the banners. Also, DELETE THE APP AND REINSTALL OR YOU’LL GET BOGUS DATA ON YOUR PHONE. Last but not least. Please make it easier to store/review data on the phone WHEN THE UNIT IS DISCONNECTED. A huge potential benefit of an app is the ability to review data afterwards…yet when the unit disconnects much of the data is inaccessible!
This app has always been decent. Recently I attempted to use it with my labradar and if I erase a shot from my app, the app freezes and I need to close out the app, manually reconnect to the labradar and then it’s deleted and working again. Happened each time I attempted to erase a shot.
Nothing about how you operate the LabRadar is intuitive. It is a very old school DOS flavor of operation. Where you had to have things set perfect before you use it. Amazing that after all this time you can’t change the projectile weight for the series and have it recalculate anything in app. You mess that up before you shoot your series? Too bad, you’re doing it all again. That’s just rotten to do to users. Downright evil.
1) Date and time do not synch correctly. App is “stuck” on spurious date and time and cannot be corrected. 2) Signal Quality does not download to app; blank. 3) Deleting shots or series in app causes it to hang sporadically 4) BT will occasionally disconnect mid-session App shows great promise but still a bit rough around the edges and not up to par with the (excellent) LR unit itself.
Why did you guys have to completely trash the old ap? The UI was so easy to use and it was very intuitive. This new one that came out - It’s straight crap. Why did you to change it?!
Very frustrated with is app. Can not manipulate data in my iPhone 13 while offline and the Old app did it easily. Not user friendly at all. Please make the original Bluetooth App available again. This one is a disaster.
Like the others have mentioned, every time I try to make a change in the settings, the app closes down and disconnects from the LabRadar. Very unprofessional.
Entering the weight is backwards! It also crashes the app depending on where you click after entering the weigh. You guys need to grt on the ball and fix this app once and forall!
Worst app and the developers don’t even care to fix its problems. That’s ok, luckily there are other Doppler radar systems out on the market. I hope LabRadar goes bankrupt.
Labradar is ok for a $700 chrono, but this app is an embarrassment. Half the time it doesn’t want to connect, the other half it freezes. Completely useless.
The app is great when it works, but the LabRadar continuously disconnects from Bluetooth and requires a restart to get it to reconnect… until next time.
I normally don’t write bad reviews but I just can’t stand a company that takes forever to make updates and when they finally do they don’t fix the problem. I have had my Labradar for several years and paid a lot more than they sell for now so you can understand why I have such a problem when I have only seen one update in the five years I’ve had it and for that update to not fix the problems just tells me how bad of a company they are. This is just a few of the issues. It loses connection all the time and when you have to reconnect it it has to spend 40 seconds updating every time. I have several other Bluetooth products that auto connect and manually connect in 2 seconds. Why can’t the Labradar do it. It goes to a blank white screen every time you delete a false reading. The app is not very well thought out for someone that has to test reloading with multiple grains. You should be able to setup profiles for multiple calibers before going to the range. It should allow you to work offline and update when you connect. You have to be connected to delete shots. Good luck staying connected long enough to do that. Obviously you can’t or don’t understand how to design a user friendly app or product. Just pay someone that does before a company comes a long and builds a better product and you can’t sell yours anymore because you just don’t care enough to fix all the problems. It is sad to think you are the leader in your industry and gave it all away.
The chronograph era is over. This application allows a user to communicate with a Labradar through a bluetooth connection in order to view and manage his shooting data the same way he can from the Labradar device itself. The features this application includes are : 1. Create and delete series 2. Manage the Labradar settings such as units, radar settings, trigger settings, distance settings and shot related settings (such as projectile weight and offset) 3. Receive the shots on the phone or tablet when the Labradar is armed, in real-time. 4. Convert the data to be displayed in the user's preferred scale units of measurement In addition to those features, it also displays statistics of the series/shots along with graphs displaying various aspect of the data such as the velocity, power factor or the energy of the series/shots. In order for the application to work properly : 1. Install at least firmware version 1.2.0 2. Do NOT pair the mobile device to the Labradar 3. Enable the location services and accept the permissions upon application startup 4. Make sure the Labradar is not in armed mode while trying to connect to it
