Tons of fun to use and really pushes the limits of what can be done. At first it was a little intimidating to figure out but you eventually get the hang of it from toying around. There are plenty of options to choose from and you can even formulate your own patterns if you want. Personally I liked the sound reactive choice as a set and forget option. It is subscription based and the price is justifiable (and recommended) if you have a good amount of smart bulbs. If you’re just getting started then you’ll find yourself more hesitant to spend $50 a year. I’ll be passing on the subscription myself since I only have 3 lights and it just wouldn’t make sense for me to spend that much on that little, bit try the trial and see for yourself!
This is one of the best hue lights app in the App Store. The UI can be a bit intimidating at first when first launched, but after trying it out a few times you will get the hang of it. I would love to see in future updates the ability to input any tempo not preset tempos. Aside from that no complaints !
I used to use this app a lot But now after a recent update not even the basic free ones are able to be used without a subscription. I was happy with the free ones as I'm sure everyone else was. Now if I even want to use anything I have a limited 7 day trail then my only option would be to PAY PER MONTH to use the same things I was using for free before the update. Absolutely sad. I understand the only reason to put an app on the App Store is to make money, I get that. But why take away something that was free for so long? This kind of change ends with the app loosing fans and slowly becoming forgotten. Sure one person not using the app that was free won't make a difference. But I'm just one of the unhappy people that actually took the time to write a review.
So I got the app, and I fell in love with it. So I upgraded one of the features. It stopped working and closed every time I tapped one of the features I wanted to use. So I contacted the developer. Him and I went back and forth giving me suggestions on trying to fix the app. I told him none of the solutions worked. So he was very nice about going through the program to have an update. I updated as soon as he emailed me back that there was a new update. Ever since that update, the app has been working beautifully. I’m so in love with this app.
This app is nice and can make your lights do some neat tricks. However you have to purchase it to use any of it more than 10 minutes and just wait til you see its cost!!! ITS SUBSCRIPTION BASED! $49 a year!!! I don’t know about you but I am not paying $49 a year for an app. I don’t even think I’d pay $49 one time fee for this app!!! This developer may be the greatest guy ever and maybe he’s going to be considered a trend setter in the future, however at this moment I think he has over inflated his creation and it’s worth. Developer, get real! Look at what people are saying and get a clue. One user said “greedy” and I can’t even agree with that. Subscription based or $80!!! This is not even in the realm of reality.
Great app. A great capability was removed recently.
It has been great with my Hue lights and Nanoleaf. The latest update removed the background run, which I enjoyed a lot, because I was able to continue to use my phone, while the lights were changing. Now it a bummer I cannot even leave the app or lock the phone, otherwise the lights sequence stops... the developer mentioned that was due apple power savings, but I imagine that it uses the same amount of power when an apps run in the background, and this is done all the time in apple devices. Please bring back that setting.
Focus on the most important thing. Background functionality.
Stop adding things. This app is basically useless without being able to use it in the background. I have not updated it since the last version that has it. I paid for this and I’m not able to use the new things I paid for until you give this back to us. I see a lot of apps with lights running in the background so your excuse is unacceptable. If something actually happened with Apple, please fix this. Then add other things. This is top priority. I’m sorry for the rant. I’m a fan of the app and I’m scared everyday of updating it by accident.
Not only does this app include so many different options for customization (many of which are unmatched in similar apps on the App Store), but I initially had an issue with my phone’s settings preventing the app from working correctly and the developer worked extensively with me to ensure the app worked correctly. I highly recommend this app for its capabilities and customer service!
Works great. Worked well as an accent to the holidays. Great with music and setting a vibe. Controls are intuitive enough. Support is great. Good purchase as far as I’m concerned. My only concern is I can’t get it to work on my 2nd iPhone. Ideally since I have software rights (limited) I’d like to be able to run the software on different devices. Maybe it’s an ID10T issue on my part. All good otherwise.
You don’t even give someone a chance to try it out...Buh Bye. Oh yea, a $7.99 a month? Lol My update: I had a dimmer switch on the circuit so if I tried to use ur app on demo it put the lights into all white epilepsy mode. So by time I got that changed out ur app expired. Frankly...it’s still not worth a steep $7.99/mo subscription. Not like it’s something a typical user would use daily. And I found 2 other apps that have decent “free” features with other ones you can unlock for a lot less. So again, $7.99 a month?...you crazy.
The app has always been great and I have not found any that best it, but did you change something with the sound active controller? I remember a strobe effect that seems like it’s no longer an option. They all seem slow and fairly similar now.
Purchased this app to control Philips Hue system for a party. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to make things work. Ultimately, I was unsuccessful. I emailed the app creator several times and he was very responsive, hence the two stars. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the lights to simply randomly change color in the manner most suiting the party. Perhaps this app is designed for the professional DJ with experience operating this sort of thing but it is certainly not for the novice.
could not get this app to work at all. i was able to connect my hie bridge, the app was able to recognize my lights and actually responded on the testing screen when i tested them individually. aside from that, couldnt get most things to work. the strobe function was working somewhat but i was only concerned about music sync mode as i like to dj at home and was hoping to use this app for a light show. i updated the hue and light dj app, updated each individual light, re-paired the app to the bridge, tried to do everything i could in the app to see if i was missing something but i got nothing. im a dj and i work in a/v so i’m able to make things work eventually. if this app does function, it’s either not intuitive at all or just doesnt like me. shame cause this appeared to be exactly what i was looking for
Love the concept and when it works it’s awesome. However, if you switch out of the app it stops working and you have to restart the app to get it to work again. Also randomly after a few minutes one bulb will stay blue and you have to restart the app to fix it. You cannot charge people $8 a month if you’re app is not reliable.
I feel like it’s totally worth the subscription. With only my phone to work with, this is the easiest and most comprehensive design I have seen out of all apps I have seen and tried for this purpose. Thank you so much for making this app. It’s wonderful!
You used to be able to actually use this in a limited basis, but the free version now limits you to 10 minutes without a subscription or $80. Maybe I’m just old, but there used to be a time when you’d buy an app for a reasonable price and it’s yours, no subscription required. They want more here than a AAA game to make lights move to the music? I’ll move on. It’s a shame, this used to work as a decent app.
I Can Program Exactly What Colors Flash On a Second Or 4 Second Interval !!! Once You Set Up Hue Buy This App && I Only Wish The Light DJ Woukd Implement Background Play !!! The Lights Stop The Programmed Pattern When You Put App To The BackGround !! 5 Starsz Tho !!!
Seems like a powerful program but the 10 minute demo is a waste. By the time you figure out how to work it, the program cripples itself. Also not interested in a $50 subscription model. UPDATE: I figured I’d try once more using the 7 day trial. Unfortunately the trial never worked either. On the last day I see there is now an update that fixes “subscription problems” but no idea if it worked since I cancelled before being charged. Fool me once...
Only suggestion for improvement is a limitation of the hardware(iPhone), but maybe one day:: the ability to beat sync to and while playing audio through phone speaker
I used to really enjoy this app. It gives lots of options and turns the Hue lights into a fun experience. The app previously worked in the background after starting it, but now it turns all the Hue lights off and stops “listening” to ambient music the moment I exit the app. I confirmed “Background App Refresh” is enabled. Please fix this!
Me being a daily user of Hue lights have tried out various apps regarding sequences and different light patterns. This app is by far the worst one I’ve ever tried. $7.99 a month is honestly way to much even with multiple different color combinations and 2 new sequences each month this app will be a waste of your time including the fact that the app does not work in the background of your device. This app is simply not worth it!
Had a party and enjoyed how it worked. Paid for the monthly to try out for 30days and does a good job. I do wish I could control more than 10 lights per bridge but works good for me. When my NFL team wins I make the chandelier sparkle in team colors.
Visualizations are great. I wish it could use what is playing instead of using the microphone. It doesn’t work well with Bluetooth playing and trying to run the visualizer.
App is great and bring hue and Nanoleaf to work together. The layout isnt super and it does crash when applying certain effects. But over all i like it. However, its just a app to control my lights at night when listening to music. Its not worth paying 7.99+tax monthly. Developer would make a lot more money if they made this reasonably priced. Food for thought.
I paid for the yearly all access ($49!) and now when I launch the app I literally get 3 annoying prompts that my payment failed, then a photosensitive warning, then ANOTHER prompt that my payment failed. I checked with Apple and the app charged my card successfully and I’m set to renew in a year. So it’s either broken or a scam.
Got this app so we could have a low key dance party for my fiancé’s 30th bday. Friends all around, lots of good food and drink. I had used this app previously briefly to test it and it worked, so I bought the annual. Night of the party were all ready to dance and.... the mic / audio functionality no longer worked. No matter what I did I couldn’t get it to work again.
I tried the app for a few minutes last night and although it was fun it’s not worth a ridiculously high membership rates. $8/month?! That’s $100 a year to have your lights flicker or you can pay $50 for yearly but even at $50 it’s ridiculous. Should be a one time $20 and we’re rocking. Huge fail here and huge waste of money. Won’t be buying
As a light fanatic, I enjoy all sensations of light, this all doesn’t disappoint! I hate a complicated user interface and this didn’t disappoint in simplicity. Used only for brief period and I am enjoying immensely!
Love the product, a dream for people that like visuals intertwined with their music. Can’t go to shows because of Covid so with Hue bulbs and apps like this, you can create your own fun zone.
I downloaded this app for a party. Set it up (doesn’t really do much other than blink and change light colors but that was enough) Unfortunately when I went to get it going, it only lasted a few minutes before asking me to upgrade. Constantly. So this app is nice to see if you wanna buy this app, but definitely wouldn’t even call this an app. It’s a tester.
Very fun app but frequent crashes and disconnects from my Hue bridges. When they get disconnected, I can’t just add them back like all other Hue apps. I have to delete and reinstall LightDJ which is an annoying pain.
$50 a year is a way too much for the app you use a couple of times a year. Didn’t even inform me about renewal, simply changed $50 and sent an email post-factum.
This is difficult to work. Not intuitive in the least. When you finally get it to do what you want it stops working and you open the app to see they want you to purchase the pro version for $9. No way. Save your money.
And what Disco mostly delivers on, Light DJ delivers, and not just on Hue. Without much effort is perfect all my psytrance dance , Cocteau Twins, Ancient Future, And even whale sounds and ocean sounds. I love this app, well worth the ten bucks!
Love the progress on this app but a subscription fee is crazy for something I might use a few times per year I’ll have to find another app but if there was a flat fee I’d buy it right now 😔
It worked immediately after downloading. I closed the app. An hour later it told me I need to pay a monthly fee. Design is somewhat poor. Development was good for as much I was able to use. Why only let the user use it once and then make them pay? It says 7 day trial. Makes no sense.
Previously paid for features locked behind a subscription
Paid for Pro/unlocked version back in the day. Developer has now locked the Multitouch Strobe Maker, a feature previously included with my purchase, behind a “Pro” Subscription.
They want you subscribe and act like they are providing a service when in reality they are just using existing features in a framework. Not worth a sub. If I could buy the app and have full access it would make allot more sense. But I’m sure you guys wants every dollar out of that subscription.
I paid for this app now it’s a subscription service?! The tech on this app isn’t even that great and it crashes/disconnects all the time. No! I’m looking for other options now and deleted this. Not worth the money if you already have Phillips HUE Disappointed.
Just downloaded the app and 5 mins later it says you have to buy some subscription plan... Guess I'll go elsewhere and pay 3 bucks for something that isn't trying to charge me 5 bucks a month... Would have been happy with the free model but I feel dooped. Next!
The app does allow you more control over hue lamps BUT I personally want to see a better UI if there is a subscription involved. Not worth a subscription in my opinion for an added feature to lights that can be controlled from many other apps.(manufacturer / apple home / google home) A one time fee for the app is more understanding. Maybe it is by use, for a home owner no, if you are business owner looking to enhance your lounge or club maybe.
I'm really mad that it no longer plays in the background. That's the primary reason why I paid to unlock the premium features. It's extremely inconvenient that I can't change the song without killing the lights and the party.
