Notifications don’t work anymore, tried everything
App worked great when 1st downloaded but after several months the notifications stopped working. I use to get alerts when my door was opening or closing and the time it happened. Great when you’re not home but get alerted that door was opened and you know kids made it home for example. BUT it doesn’t work anymore even thought notifications on iPhone are turned on. I’ve deleted app and reinstalled, restarted phone, turned off notifications and back on and none worked. It is nice to be able to open and close door yourself from your phone but that’s the only benefit now. When I sent a troubleshooting email it just said to contact my dealer Not good enough!
I’m using a NetGear. Orbi mesh WiFi system. It will not work. I’ve been on the phone with NG tech for over 5grs trying to find a work around because Linear just says it won’t work. They say that any device that gives access to your home can’t work on a mesh system. Well August door looks work fine,Schlage door locks work fine, Nest X Yale works fine and I could name more. So linear get your engineering team to figure it out. Other companies have. This is why your app is rated so poorly. You don’t respond to customer requests and the changing times. Edit: netgear after hours of troubleshooting gave up and said it was on linear’s end and couldn’t be done. Linear said it couldn’t be done with a mesh router. But this high school graduate who was not willing to give up was able to get it to work on not just one of their apps but both of their apps. I tried pairing my iPhone to the wall plate probably close to 40 times and on the last time a pop-up came up that said “you have successfully Connected to the access point”. This had NEVER popped up before. NEVER!!!!! Everything has worked fine since. The garage door is on 2.4 GHz and my phone is on 5 GHz. I even turned the Wi-Fi off on my iPhone and went to LTE and the garage door still works as if I was away from home. And I did the same testing with my iPad Air and it works fine too.
Often times an app gets bad reviews simply because users may not fully understand the app or not follow the instructions exactly in configuring it. I think this is the case with the Linear garage door opener app. I've read all the negative comments about how this app will not work with an Orbi Mesh WiFi router, but I have one and it works perfectly. In fact, the app is very impressive in how it can be configured to include display of the light or not, and other features regarding adding other users to have access by simply adding them as a "member" and them downloading the app. The setup was very simple and straightforward...only three steps and the opener was connected to my Orbi Mesh WiFi router and working perfectly. It not only provides remote open/close control of the garage door, but notifies you on your iPhone if the door has been opened or closed. This is a great addition to a home security system and also serves as a reminder when you're miles from home and wonder "Did I close the garage door?" I'm very pleased we purchased this particular Linear garage door opener. It's quiet, works flawlessly, and the WiFi feature is very helpful.
I’m a Linear dealer in Pocatello , ID and I’ve tried loving this. And for the most part I used to. But now as I have contractors working on my house I need it to allow them access remotely into my home. And it seems EVERY TIME I need it , it will not work (ie. “cannot connect to linear servers”). However every time I don’t need it , it seems to work. Unfortunate hiccup. The geo-fence needs some serious fixing too. That’s what I was looking forward to most & reason why I chose linear over liftmaster . I operate on Apple platform (iOS) & if my phone is unlocked it will open and shut per the geofence pretty much 3 of 4 times. But when phone is locked I will still get notification about it closing/opening but physically it will not do it. Lastly , the fact that they advertise this to work with smartphones almost seems like a blatant lie. Cannot get this to work or recognize with my google home. If you look in manuals you will not find solutions as well. If you google your problems you find many , with the same problem and frustration as well. Make this more user friendly and make it work with smart homes (Google and Alexa). These three major problem are enough to drive you bonkers. And today trying to let contractors in I could not. Might have been the last straw for me and may be switching over to Lift master !
I just had a new Linear door installed and am very impressed by how quiet it is. Installing the app and connected door to internet was a little challenging. After reading the reviews about connectivity I was nervous about it working. Once I started trying to connect app to door and then to internet, I started getting internet connection failure notices. This went on for several minutes. As I started to get frustrated, I powdered down my iPhone and powered it back up. The app then was able to connect and the rest of the setup was a breeze. Once it was working, I set my wife’s phone up instantly. Nice app. Can turn lights on and off and close and open door. Works great! Four stars just because of the initial connection issues.
Unfortunately the app and the equipment are not as reliable or easy to use as MyQ enabled motors. The Linear app won’t reconnect to WiFi after a power outage nor does it allow me to successfully add multiple doors. The process works albeit very slowly, but the end result is a green LED on the wall panel and no Motor showing up in the app. Pretty amateur for something as important as a garage door. From my POV it’s a reflection on the quality of the entire system and I’m likely to replace it with Garage Master.
Although the app is fully functional and I’m able to control the doors/lights, one of the selling points was that It was compatible with google home. It doesn’t even show up as a linked service for me to add in the google home app. I’ve tried calling tech support for Linear and they tell me it should work and try to give me instructions on how to search in the google app. I know how to link devices in the google app, and I’ve never had any problem finding a certain app there, so this seems more like a problem on Linear’s end. Is this a glitch or should there be a different name I should be typing into the google app? Please inform us, or remove that advertisement of it being smart home compatible.
I just went through setting this up for the garage doors and it took a while because the app kept insisting it couldn't find my wall unit. The directions were pretty good though and I persisted, getting the dance between the app and the iPhone WiFi settings down to where I could almost do it with my eyes closed. Pro tip: if you need to setup more than one door, it seems to be necessary to quit the app and restart it each time. After that, success. Note to developers: couldn't you somehow make the doors share the home WiFi rather than asking me to reselect it and re-enter the password each time? It would be quite the house that has multiple doors all on different networks!
Don’t waste your time or your money with this app! The notifications of when the door is opened or closed stopped about a year and a half. I’ve called their tech office multiple times about when this glitch would be remedied. The person that answers the phone over there is extremely rude and annoyed that anyone would be so rude to even call and inquire about when a tech issue would be fixed. These people do not care that you bought this product and they evidently not planning to take care the time to fix the problems related to it. My advice to anyone that needs a product like this is to buy a garage door opener that is compatible with a My Q app. It works all the time and it never fails!!
I was so looking forward to having a “smart” garage door opener. Mostly because we have a new vehicle with integrated door buttons. Thank goodness that part actually works. But the app is terrible!!!!!!!! It literally took 27 tries to connect the wall unit to my phone. Though it already had a WiFi connection, it would only let me go so far before it would log me out (yes, I had the Keep me logged in option activated) and I had to start the whole process over again which included establishing WiFi connection AGAIN. Finally got it connected but it rarely actually works. Constantly has to log me back in or it can’t find a connection. Which defeats the purpose entirely. Sooooo frustrated and sorry I chose a company that installs these openers. Which are very quiet btw. At least there’s that.
I just had my garage door installed yesterday with the nicest Precision Door opener I could buy. They did a beautiful job installing these and this app worked right away. I wish the app could do more then just open and shut my door and turn the light off and on. I thought I would be able to see all activity with my door even while I am away from home. But I do not see how there are options for that. I give 5 stars because this app does work and the job they did installing was wonderful and professional!
I don’t understand all the negative reviews on this app I’ve had this downloaded and been using this for about a year now and it works great. I use it when we go for walks and don’t want to bring my keys and I can easily open our door from my app, it triggers the door within a second or two simple as that. I have a 10 minute timer set so if our garage is left open it will close within 10 minutes. Tested this while I was doing some yard work last month and sure enough it closed at 10.
It used to work but no more. The app does not consistently give you the opportunity to open a garage door. You constantly have to re-enter your email address and password. Or it doesn’t present the fingerprint input screen. I have to close the app/re-open and then it works...sometimes. But their servers have to be up in order to open your door and they have been having many issues with that. Love the hardware. I have no words for the app. Just awful. It also falsely indicates your beam that stops the door from closing is blocked. Mine never has been. And when you contact them via the app for assistance...crickets. I’ve written a couple of nice missives and one heated one. Never a peep from them
The app provides limited but useful functionality of managing your garage door remotely. I like that the app sends out notifications when the door is opened/closed along with the method used. These notifications worked initially for few months; but later stopped working. Tried to troubleshoot this but to no avail. Fast forward to today - and I noticed that the app notifications started working again! The app has earned the 4 stars 😃
Security Flaw. Fix this app and your infrastructure
I would give this app 0 out of 5 stars if I could. The fact that this app will allow you to try and open/close the garage, even when Linear’s servers aren’t functioning properly (so it tells you), it then stores your open/close requests in a queue for a later time when things are back up and connected. What does this mean? If you try and open your garage door then, it will do nothing at that moment and then resort to opening the garage at a time later (day maybe when you are no longer home or even god forbid asleep at night). This is a HUGE security flaw. It’s unbelievable they can legally ship this app in this state.
This company has horrible products and customer service. We installed our opener a few months ago and we have Toyotas. We can not program our vehicles to operate the device. So, I called customer service and we received a 3rd party company. This company did not offer useable answers. Now about the app, again horrible. We close the door, using external remotes and after 5 mins I will receive an alert detecting that I have moved away from the premises, would you like to close the door. Well, it was already closed. Again, overall horrible. I am ready to replace it even though it is brand new.
It’s 2019, and in the age of the “smart home” when things should just work, this app falls way short. It always logs you out, and will tell you your system is “offline” when it isn’t. I’ve even had instances where it wasn’t opening the door, so I used the RF door opener, only to have my garage door randomly open 20 minutes later... a serious security concern. It is obvious this company cares little about their image as they will not address these concerns. Buy a different garage door system. Edit: You guys should really consider an option to choose what notifications are sent. I really don’t need to know that the light turned on or off.
This app kept crashing when I first tried to use it a couple of months ago. I noticed the app had updates recently and decided to try again. Everything working including the geofence settings. My favorite part is receiving push notifications when the door goes up and down and when the light goes off. Thank you and keep the updates coming!
Terrible app that seems more like an afterthought than anything else. Case in point, they released a new version two weeks ago but whoops, left out the auto trigger settings that lets the garage door open when you leave your house and open when you arrive home. My guess is it will be months before this is noticed or someone cares enough to actually fix it. I even tried calling “technical support“ and got a ton of runaround. Linear is the owner of an entrematic but entrematic partners with GTO, or something like that, and each company blamed the other company. If you want a Wi-Fi garage door, get one from a well reviewed brand.
Zero star. The pairing simply does not work, I have strong WiFi connection and have it set at the 2.4g as it requires and after going through the steps on the app to switch to the WiFi network, it kept popping up the same message saying to choose a network that is not GTO####### network (basically saying don't connect to its initial setup connection). Then it stalls there, and if you go "back" it makes you go over the whole process from the beginning. This is terrible and they should not claim the tech works. False advertisement!
Works okay, iOS 13.3. Have Linksys mesh at home. Two doors. We’ve had the system over a year. Seemed the app was buggy initially, but working fine the last few months. I just open and close the doors and lights with the app. I haven’t used the geo fencing. I wish it had and Apple Watch app. Update: still working well for the last 4 months. Currently June 2020. Using the system on a iPhone X and XS.
I too tried to connect this to the door 3 times to no avail. I started reading reviews on this app and saw a response from the manufacturer to let the app access your location always. If that doesn’t work then to restart the app. Voila! Worked the first time after I allowed the app to always know my location. Awesomely quiet opener. Note to the app developer... Add this key detail to the add device tutorial!!! 1 star off for the hassle.
This app is garbage. It doesn’t stay logged in and will often say that my password is wrong but it’s the same one that is saved and worked the time before. It also will say that the garage opener is offline but it isn’t, it is an app issue. We have had the garage door opener and app for a few years now and I keep waiting for an update to the app that will correct these issues but the company seemingly isn’t concerned once they get your money for the opener. It’s a shame and I wish I had done my research before and chosen an opener that has a better app available.
Not the easiest thing to setup. A few things. If you use a mesh system or have repeaters unplug all but the one nearest to the opener. Otherwise it can’t keep finding the correct repeater. Next, during setup after you have gotten the wall keypad into the setup mode and you’re about to go forward on your phone to continue, be sure you’re near the opener - not the wall unit. Otherwise it won’t connect well to the opener WiFi when you go to continue setup.
I’ve had this app and garage door opener for about a month. It’s mostly been working ok. My chief complaint is about the notifications. Why do I need to be notified that the light came on? Why isn’t there options to configure the notifications? I want to know if my garage door is still open 5,10 or 30 minutes after it’s been opened. I want a warning that the door has been open too long.
After many months of missing phone alerts, the Linear alerts (openings, closings, and such) are back. Like other users, the alerts went away even though all our personal settings were correct. I hope the alerts stay this time.
Update 5/8/19 It still doesn't keep you logged in, even when stay logged in is checked. What this means is that it will alert you to tell you it's opening your garage door, while really doing nothing, because you aren't logged in. Rebooting and reinstalling doesn't work, and no amount of troubleshooting has helped. incredibly frustrating. Buy a different brand of garage door opener. You'll be much happier -original review- It still constantly logs me out even though stay logged in is checked and even though it correctly alerts me that it's opening my door, it never actually opens. Persists over reboots and reinstalls. It does open the door from the app after I log back in and touch the button, but not automatically, even when seemingly logged in and telling me that it's Going to. Awful experience. Please go elsewhere for a garage door opener!
Two years and counting with no update. Plenty of well documented problems to fix, just no effort to do the work. Linear needs to step up and show accountability as a company to support their product line. At this point, there is no visible effort and zero communication with existing customers regarding their plans. I guess that indicates that their plan is to not support their app. Well, then they should not advertise this as a feature. It is clearly not a feature, so this is false advertising. Come on Linear! Show some ACCOUNTABILITY!!
This works but the app often must be refreshed, often doesn’t connect, and often doesn’t work. No Apple Home integration. It barely works and hasn’t been updated for 2 years. Yet, installers sell these garage doors for thousands of dollars and customers have no recourse. Please make app work so your garage doors work better.
This app doesn’t work with IFTTT or google or Alexa like advertised. I spent multiple hours talking to all of them while they each blamed each other. Fact is I’m certain it’s on them, and the app sometimes gives notifications and sometimes doesn’t, and this morning it kept opening my door from the app, and I sent a password reset and now it won’t open at all. I’m selling all of my openers and switching to lift master- this is the worst garage door / app I could have imagined. Is it really that hard?
I am able to complete the first part of the “add device” when pairing my new opener to my iPhone. However when I try to do the second part which is to switch my iPhone back to my home WiFi network it doesn’t work. When I am in my iPhone settings it looks like I have switched the network my iPhone is using back to my regular home network, but when I tap my phone’s home button twice to return to the App to complete the process I don’t see my new opener “device” listed. Why isn’t the final step working???
It’s not possible to give zero stars so I have to give it one. Apart from downloading the app, there are no instructions on how to pair with a new device (installed 2023 by builder) which devices it works with, nothing. In this world of connected devices, having a remotely controllable garage opener/controller is a matter of safety but this app and company completely missed the mark and opportunity in making this useful. Still living in a world of pressing buttons manually and physically like before the internet.
I’ve had no notifications for about 5 months now, and it seems like they don’t have a plan to update this app, and fix this bug. I’ve seen multiple reviews of people complaining about this same thing, but the developers seem to only reply to the reviews that reference pairing, and address issues. Are you guys planning on fixing this bug, or not? What’s the deal, and why no communication with users having this same issue? This is an easy patch.
While notifications are back it is still disappointing. My place does does not show updated activity day/time for the garage door or light. Additionally, the device details for recent activity does not show the updated activity either. Contraindicates notifications. Wouldn’t know which was correct if not home. Still very disappointed. I should have went with another garage door opener. Do not get a product which requires the use of this app.
Worst app ever. The doors would not respond to the app, whether closing or opening. It would go offline randomly. The most common problem, if it wouldn’t respond when you needed it to, there was no telling when or if the command would go through. This resulted in me receiving notifications, when I’m far from home that my garage door was opened by the app. Or worse in the middle of the night when I’m asleep. My door would be open for hours!!! Never again.
Simple and easy app to use. Connected quickly with my home network and has reliable operation. My only, big, gripe is that it has no integration with HomeKit. Would be nice to not have to use multiple apps and have everything within my home app. Your product is the only one that won’t integrate with it. It is almost enough to make me ditch the opener and go with a brand that will.
I’m a builder and used Liftmasters in my homes in the past, including my own. I started using Linear and liked how quiet the motors were and the local installers pushed this brand. I then put it in my own home and after using it am greatly disappointed. Does the garage go up and down, yes. But it is lacking a lot of small nice features that I’m use to having and the app is very poor. It needs to be overhauled and add some basic features like it’s competitors have been offering for many many years.
If you keep the notifications on, it gives lots of unnecessary events. There is no way to configure the level of notifications. Either you get bombarded by every little thing or you don’t get anything at all. I wish developers read this and make some useful updates. I hope they can give notifications when garage door is left open for long time. App is slow to start and respond. Every time you close garage using app, garage door beeps for long time loudly. Very annoying!!!
Yeah, the notifications weren’t working for a while, like in 2022. But they’ve been working for a long time in 2023. Works well. Still like the automatic opening based on location too.
The garage opener itself works just fine but for the life of me I can’t make this app work. Been trying for 3 THREE YEARS!! My Liftmaster app at my previous home worked fantastic. Using an iphone 13+ and a DECO Mesh M5 router with a station right on the other side of my garage door. Super strong signal from my home internet all the way to my sidewalk. I paid good money for this opener system but not getting full value. Would never recommend it.
Possibly the worst smart home app. Unfortunately you need it to control a Linear or Precision garage door opener. Took numerous attempts to get connected and even though the door controller shows the door is connected the app shows it offline. This after spending over an hour on hold for tech supporter. There call back and leave a message functions on Linear’s telephone system don’t work either. App is cumbersome to program and it takes multiple attempts. A complete waste.
This app is terrible. It does not stay logged in. I have turned on the “Touch ID” and the “keep me logged in” and it does not ever work. What we thought was going to be a nice feature is useless. We will have to purchase another opener which is irritating. Company should really just do away with the app if this is how it’s going to be. Quit offering this “service” when it doesn’t work.
I’ve been using the app since November 2019. It works as expected. It did take me a couple of tries to get both garage doors to work but once set up it has been rock solid. I’d love to see an Apple Watch app to go with the phone app.
This app used to be good. I was able to get notifications when door was opened/closed. Now there are no notifications and it’s super glitchy. It would work sometimes and sometimes it won’t. The worse thing is if it doesn’t work then it will randomly open my garage at some point later in the day. It’s ridiculous to the point I just had to uninstall the app.
After a difficult process of trying to connect to my Xfinity Wi-Fi, the product has supposedly connected to my network but when I go to open the app and use it it just keeps loading. The Wi-Fi symbol on the garage home pad is lit up green but it does not work at all. Which is a big disappointment since I really wanted it to be connected to our network so that I could keep track of when the door opens and closes.
Notifications Still Don’t Work after several years
When is the Notification feature going to work again? It worked when first downloaded a couple of years ago then with all the upgrades it stopped working. All phone notifications are ON. When will there be an upgrade when it actually works?
It won’t keep you logged in or accept Touch ID on the login screen and linking a device has never worked. All of the features & convenience of being able to control your garage door with your phone are lost with this app! Ask your installer if Linear is used & if so opt out. Don’t get stuck with paying for a feature never doesn’t works & you lose 20 minutes of your life trying to make it work.
Since one of the many recent iOS updates, the app no longer provides on-screen notifications about the doors opening and closing. I’ve checked all settings and everything is set correctly. Looking at the reviews, it seems Linear isn’t going to be concerned that their app doesn’t work. That’s really too bad because it was a decent app. Hard to get the openers set up on it, but good once programmed.
Highly upset about this horrible app. Got a new router and followed instructions to update Wi-Fi network and it locks up and does nothing. Sent a feed back email and get a response saying talk to your installer. Costume support is horrible and I now see why this app is rated so low. Wish I can find another app that actually works. Would give zero stars if I could.
