I appreciate being able to use mobile deposit with an online bank; however, I’ve had to completely delete the app and reload for the deposit process not to get stuck. I opened a business account purely to deposit business checks so it does get annoying.
I have been a customer of Live Oak bank for a long time. They have had competitive interest rates and continue to do so. However, this is the only reason I continue to use them. I have the same issues that many people have reported here – having to enter my password when I have enabled face recognition login, getting locked out, and most importantly, the inability to deposit anything using their deposit feature. I have called and spoken to the bank many many months ago and they still have not fixed this feature. So the only way I’m able to deposit money into the account is by transferring it from another bank. They have said that they were going to fix it but no actions. The bank works as a place to earn interest but nothing more and support for their application is nonexistent.
I have a sizable c corp ($4MM annual revenue). I routed about 16k of merchant deposits to their “acclaimed” small business savings. Was locked, i didn’t worry about it for about 2 years until i remembered that i had money with them. I sent them account closure forms (photo ID included along with legal jargon my general counsel ensured was proper and binding - requiring they close my account and send me a check for my balance within 30 days of receiving the account closure form) Mailed certified, they received it, 30 days passes, 60, literally a full calendar year later I began more aggressively pursuing the matter. They then tell me, they have returned the funds (2+ years after having received them) to the sender. And for me to check the sending account. Those were merchant deposits, for sales made and products delivered from 2+ years ago. So they returned it ultimately to the merchant bank, aka Wells Fargo. Literally, they made me jump through infinite hoops just to give away my money. So, I’m short the 16k of product sales, as they so generously decided to give away their client’s money. Be careful folks. At live oak bank, please do correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not, so I doubt you guys will have anything to say as you guys epitomize the gutter of the US banking system.
Once you’re logged in, the app has a clean, functional interface, which I appreciate, although it’s lacking a total balance for all accounts, which is information that’s pretty basic for banking and incredibly useful to have, so I hope they’ll consider adding it. All that aside, I do have one huge gripe about the app: Even though I have biometric login enabled, I almost always have to enter my password, as the app keeps logging me out of the biometric option. This is indescribably irritating, as my password is long and complicated (as a banking password should be), and it’s very easy to mistype on a tiny phone keyboard and not even realize until the app informs me it’s wrong, at which point I have to type it all over again.
I noticed much of the previously poor reviews are in reference to the check deposit feature, I’ve never had a smoother experience with it than with Live Oaks mobile banking app, super convenient and easy to manage, made a deposit and my funds begin earning interest the same day at an incredible rate. Great experience
The app functions well overall. It allows you to view accounts and easily transfer and deposit checks. One thing to note is that the Face ID biometrics seem to only work for a limited time before requiring you to re-enter your credentials. Although this can be inconvenient, it's not a significant issue in the grand scheme of things.
First off, in a new customer so this is first impressions. Mobile deposits take a little bit of time at the start but clearing speeds up i assume after you develop trust with the bank. I like the clean and simple design but i think theres could be a dark-mode integration. and i also think the bank should disclose in large bild letter that they wont provide you a checkbook for their checking accounts. Other than that ive had a very good experience banking here so far, I've called them twice, havent waited on the phone for more than 3 minutes, and every time get a nice knowledgable rep on the phone to answer my questions. There are a few things that can be done to bring this app into 2022 tho. (dark mode primarily)
I was growing increasingly frustrated that the app kept freezing whenever I attempted to deposit checks. After trying multiple devices for several days, it dawned on me to try a non-iOS device. After 2 tries, it worked. Thank goodness I had a Samsung to try. So now I know not to use any Apple devices and, while it’s still buggy, it eventually works. Customer Support was of no help when I reported this issue with the app.
Have called customer service several times. Deleted and reloaded app several times. All to no avail. Every time I try depositing checks it locks up when it takes the pictures. One thing that seems to make it worst is if you select to not show the screen which reminds you to endorse the back side of your check before taking snapshot of the back of the check. Live Oak are you listening to the hundreds of complaints about your app?!?
I’ve only used the desktop version until this new update that happened with the entirety of Live Oak. I decided to get the app as well and honestly it works beautifully. I mainly only use it to transfer between my two separate accounts.
The app is decent, I'm just scoffing at the fact my deposit was "on hold" for 10 days. It leaves my possession and spends 10 days in a void before returning to my possession? Everyone, the internet takes 10 days to process numbers now! Be aware!
I love the bank, but hate the app. Facial recognition never works for me…always asks me to log in. Almost every time I log in, it triggers an “account locked due to too many failed attempts” message even though I know the password and it’s my first attempt. This requires me calling the bank for a reset every time. Not good. All of this started when they launched the new app…it’s a dumpster fire disaster….bummer.
Was great until they rolled out the “new and improved app” in Aug 2021. The new one is NOT compatible with Mint. They have been aware and say they are working on it - but it has been over 6 months and they just keep saying that. So they ruined the main thing I need. Very frustrating that they won’t fix this.
This is not a bank that can help anyone other than very small businesses. There is a rolling 30 window mobile deposit limit of 25k. That means you can deposit anything more than that total within any 30 day window. Also the app is not enterprise ready. Please grow up live oak bank!
I am having trouble with mobile deposit. It keeps freezing and I am having to do it over and over again. This needs to be fixed otherwise I am switching bank….
The mobile check deposit feature crashes and is unusable after turning off warning about signing checks (even after restarts of app). Now have checks I’ve endorsed to Live Oak only that I cannot deposit on the app or with any other bank until this is fixed.
App is great overall but every time I deposit a check, I have to delete the app and download again just to prevent the app from freezing in the middle of check photos.
I can’t get past the enrollment page. When I try to login it takes me to the enrollment “claim account” I enter my info and it says I’ve already Claimed it - but when I try to login it takes me back to the enrollment page. How do I get to my account once I’ve enrolled?
That is about it. I have constant trouble logging in. I forget my password and biometrics doesn’t work. The old app worked better, and it has been gone for a while.
The app is fine, by banking app standards, but the biometric login is broken. With banking passwords being long and complicated this makes logging in very painful.
All other bank apps don’t require FaceID password entry, please fix LiveOak app!!! As of several months ago, new app updates require logging in again because FaceID needs to be rest. That is major PIA, please fix like all other banking apps do!!!
App crashes when photographing checks. A bank where you can’t access the physical location can’t work if I can’t mobile deposit my money. Please fix. This is impossible.

Downloaded the new app, started the enrollment process and finding the process buggy and cumbersome. I’m still waiting to receive the six digit code to confirm my account.
