This is a great app to get realistic, quick processing 3D models for either draft models or vfx. This app is best used for getting a quick result, or for visual effects (where extreme accuracy is not really necessary). For example, you can get a quick draft result from a bunch of images (to see how it will turn out in another software) before waiting hours, or even days for a personal computer to process the same data. I definitely recommend this app for anyone who is a vfx artist, animator, hobbyist, or just wanting to mess around with some cool tech. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this technology evolves.
I know the principles of NeRFs and Photogrammetry are different but, but this is like a moment in time when mobile photogrammetry was first introduced, since then it has gotten much better. NeRFs are able to solve details which were impossible with traditional photogrammetry, even cross-polarized. Reflective surfaces like mirrors, metal, water, glossy paint, eyeballs, no problem for NeRFs. Glass, transparency, translucency. Also no problem. The results might look rough today, but imagine how we will help improve that tomorrow!
Cons: Occasionally the app crashes during scanning, fails to process scans, and the scanning process itself is rather difficult (some practice is necessary!) Poor captures result in very noisy scans. Pros: The scan quality is overall best on the market, and captures all reflections rather than just individual points in space. The ability to scan the background makes it much more practical than lidar. Incredible potential.
The thing about this app that blows my mind is that I can record a 1 min vid on my phone, upload it, & in a few min have what is essentially a virtual 3D set with endless possibilities to shoot cinematic footage in. The camera in the editor is super intuitive and easy to use, even for a guy like me with zero knowledge of how to operate a camera operation IRL. Excited for what this team comes up with next
This works so much better than traditional photogrammetry tools I’ve used, especially for shiny and transparent objects. The new “reshoot” path editor is awesome, and I love that it processes on-device. The only big downsides are that the usdz sharing interface is a little glitchy, and the initial processing times can be highly variable (anywhere from 20 minutes to several hours).
I’ve used Polycam for photogrammetry scans, and I think that app is great for more utility applications like taking measurements and floor plans. It also is quite good at making 3D models of objects. Luma, however, is incredible for more immersive use, for capturing scenery and revisiting locations. the fact that it can capture reflections and water at all is impressive. Very excited to see how this tech evolves.
Works better than most other scanning apps, but this one’s free..
The only catch is none of the Gaussian processing is done locally on the device; thus your images as well as scans are not yours entirely and I don’t know how to feel about that yet
So the technology itself is fantastic. The app experience is varied. Sometimes it does just what you want the first time. Sometime it gets interrupted and then when you open your project there are no buttons to push or things to do to get it to start processing. So you have to fiddle with it and then somehow Accidently get it going. With that said I can’t recommend it enough because there isn’t anything else quite as good out there.
I downloaded this app for a project and within 10 minutes of using it, my phone dropped 80%. Now my phone won’t hold battery and it keeps shutting off/dying on full battery. I took it to the store and the battery is swelling so I have to get a new phone (I have an iPhone 13 Pro, its less than a year old). The app itself doesn’t work well either, it wouldn’t work at all during the 10 minutes I used it. I don’t recommend downloading this app unless you’re looking for a new phone, I would rate 0 stars if I could.
Theft and buggy It’s overpriced, i paid for the basic paid tier it froze during uploading and took some of my credits as if the prompt went through. Censorship, it is to much - can’t even mention the word fart as it goes against they’re policies. So much for any kind of comedy if it goes against they’re PG - G rated approved prompts. I am now out of credits within one week of use most of them complete failures. At least with stable diffusion and a beafy graphics card like a 3090 or above they don’t censor word prompts that would be mentioned on basic television.
There are a lot of things it can’t or won’t capture. It’s good at identifying standard objects like chairs but throw something unusual like a Superman cutout with a place to stick your head in for a photo and it refuses to identify or capture the object. Your mileage may vary. When it does work, it’s great. Just stick to easily identifiable standard objects. Oh. Also, shadows are the bane of luma sis existence. They can prevent anything from being scanned. Just a tip.
While it may take some time to circle around an object with the camera a couple of times, it’s not hard to get used to. It also takes a while for the model to render. But it’s very much functional and quite effective despite it being completely free. I hope to see more improvements in the future.
Hi, the app is 10 of 10, the IA generate 3D models have a great quality. But I’m IPhone there’s a trouble with the hi-Res option that when the apps accidentally shot down the opción keeps freeze with all the models you’re updating the resolution. Please try to fix that, or at least add an option to cancel the hi-Res option or retry when this problem appears. Thanks.
Absolutely love what this app is doing but it has a couple of kinks that need ironing out. The in app video capture is too laggy to even touch, which I’m very happy they added the feature to add your own media! Also the detailing holes in an object, which could be due to the video out of app quality but could use some revisiting.
This app is truly the easiest and most well done 3D scanning software I have been able to use on my phone. The ability for me to pull out my phone and scan anything and turn it into a 3D model is phenomenal, and it’s free as well. Great stuff keep it up
as an iranian media creator, when I saw the footage of this AI I was shocked and couldn't believe my eyes! the reasonable thing then was to download and install the app as soon as possible, so I did that And it came to me that this app has a regional ban on my country, I can not simply understand why?! why I, as an Iranian citizen can not use lots of app like this one?! aren't we human beings or this is the new kind of being rac**st?! please reconsider your thoughts we are people too!! 🙏
If you're looking for this capture functionality they don't seem to be actively supporting Nerf/Gaussian Solar capture anymore. There hasn't been any updates to it for maybe a year, and the quality just isn't what it used to be.
The amount of doors and possibilities this opens cannot be understated. Major use case scenarios for mo-graph, animation, real estate, or even archiving your life. Ability to key frame the camera path in the NeRF is amazing. Great export options such as obj and USDZ
This is the first scanning app where it worked out perfect, and not warped or unusable some way. And it didn’t prompt me for a subscription, or to pay by the scan!
It won’t let me put ANY photos because “I’ll only show photos I selected” but it didn’t let me select an in the first place. So I go in setting to let the app have any photos it wants and you can not change the setting it’s stuck like that. So I go back into the app and there’s no ways to pick what photos I want them to have access to. So this app is unstable to me
This app is so cool… it works flawlessly on my iPad Pro 11 and my iPhone 14 promax… I haven’t had any issues with it, and the 3-D scanning is phenomenal… I’ve been able to scan things and print them out on my Creality Cloud Ender 3 neo
I don’t work in Hollywood, but I feel like I work in Hollywood due to this app. This app takes photography to the next level. Great features and rock solid performance.
Holy crappppp. I have no words. Unbelievablely cool. See this not on the Google Play store actually made finally switch to iPhone. Magic from just a video. It’s unbelievable.
Best 3D scanning app I’ve ever tried, works great with human sized opaque objects with lots of detail if you want actual meshes but the NeRFs it produces from reflective or even transparent objects is very impressive
App description says iPhone, but you must have iPhone 11 or above or you can’t scan. Kind of seems like an important piece of info the app dev should include in the description
It used to work just fine but now it will not initiate a scan. The click button (hand icon) stays white so can’t scan anything. The parameter box never appears
I thought this could do a thorough fly through of a room, but it can’t…it’s only for still images…not too impressive. What’s the difference between this and just taking a video and waking around an object? I don’t get it.
They don’t have a price listed on the app so you get hit with a 20 dollar bill for something I just wanted to try. I might have paid for it with a free trial first but you are forced to shell out the cash without knowing if it is want you need.
Luma’s hot with Gaussian splats and social media, and their app shines on the latest iPhone models. Keep it up—this is a must for any media enthusiast.
After a walkthrough of my house I am only seeing one massive blur. As I was taking the photos I was seeing the camera path so everything appeared to be working.
App can not finish to upload files ! It has kept uploading capture again and again and has never finish! I can get judt 1 file , my first test, and that's it!
