It’s a solid app. It’s the same classic mahjong game I remember playing as a kid on my computer, but now it’s on my phone. Fun and relaxing. I like unlocking the different themes. A nice game. Except for the fact that it’s not included with my Ultimate Game pass subscription. I wouldn’t mind this normally, I wasn’t expecting any mobile apps to be on game pass… but the premium version of the Solitaire app IS on game pass! Microsoft, if you’re going to add your premium mobile games to game pass, then why only add one of them? I am already paying $15 per month for Ultimate Game Pass. I should not have to pay an additional $2 per month just to play Mahjong without being interrupted by ads. Please add this game to Game Pass.
First off, this is the version of Mahjong that I’ve decided to use after trying several. The controls are easy to understand, there are plenty of maps, performance is good, and graphics are nice. Some tile sets aren’t the greatest, but I have one that looks really nice that I always use. Here’s the problem, which I’m reminded of by a new update’s changelog: sponsored ads. You know, those ads that are clearly clickbait and virus- and scam-laden, yet big companies still use them on websites and in apps? I’ve tried to block Taboola but the ads almost always still come through on sites and always in apps. It completely baffles me how a company like Microsoft can allow that kind of ad in their products! I understand ads are necessary, and I can pay to have them removed, but it’s never okay to use spammy/scammy ads like that. They also immediately make your app or site look sketchy. Microsoft: there are ad services out there that are merely irritating, the bare minimum for ads. Why not use one of those? You show complete disrespect for your users by going with Taboola or another similar “sponsored ads” clickbait service. Ads like “new law shocks local drivers!” and “doctors say to eat this now!” have no place on any respectable website or app.
It could be because I started playing on Windows, but this is by far my favorite. I’ve played several other apps that are just lower quality. I have the premium version so I can’t comment on the ads. I have one complaint. When tapping on a tile near the top left corner, I often get the menu to pop up. It’s as if that area isn’t quite calibrated correctly. Or maybe it’s just me being left handed. But it’s super annoying during a timed challenge.
I’m sick of Microsoft blocking enjoyment of Casual Games and the top of the junk heap is Mahjong! Tabula frequently over rides these games so, our wins in the game are delayed while Tabula loads new ads! This can cost the player a proper score because it adds the time of loading ads as game play time. Tabula can even interrupt the sign in process so that the home page where you can select your game, signs you in as a guest and will not allow you to sign in with your Xbox account!!! Microsoft seems to think that all this crap is going to force us to buy the subscription! All it proves to me is that Microsoft cheats and cheats and somehow make you trust them and give them money. Actually, it breaches trust! So, how stupid do they think we are? Foul me once shame on you! I am never going to be treated that way twice!
I was surprised to find a Microsoft app in the Apple App Store. I downloaded this to my iPhone because I have it on my Microsoft Surface Pro and find it enjoyable and challenging. I am a bit disappointed in this version for the iPhone. After downloading the game it would shut itself off (a lot) in the middle of playing. The crashes seemed to have stopped. The only thing I am having an issue with now is when I tap a tile and then go to tap the matching tile the first tile becomes un-highlighted so I have to tap the first tile again or retap both. It gets annoying especially when playing the challenge to remove x amount of tile pairs in a few minutes.
I have played this game on my PC for years and really like it. I have recently started playing on my phone and I Pad, How do get all of them sync together. I travel a lot and it is a pain to take my PC , when I can play it on my IPad. I am referring to the daily challenges. I have had a perfect end of the month score for a long time and I hate not finishing a month because am traveling. I do use my user name from thePC on all of my devices.
Loved playing this game at first, but recently the game crashes constantly, it is beyond frustrating. Also, it would be nice if the PC version of the game had the same features as the app on my phone. Furthermore, there needs to be a warning regarding the flashing/blinking ads at the top of the screen, they are a seizure trigger, and a warning is required!! The “weight loss” ads are truly disgusting; putting a grossly obese, mostly naked woman in an ad hawking a pill that is supposed to miraculously melt away weight is reckless, negligent, and in extremely bad taste. Hawk your games all you want, but get rid of these disgusting ads!!
I love this app, but there are numerous times when I get trapped in a loop that takes you back to the menu again - NOT to the puzzle you’ve clicked on! It’s VERY frustrating! I have found that ads that give you a “skip” option DO NOT throw you into the loop. Those ads work and allow you to go to your puzzle. But the ads that start by giving you a white “X” that you click on, and then you get a page counting down from 5, then giving you another “X” - those ads always just take me back to the menu!! PLEASE FIX THIS!! 😖
Play Microsoft’s casual games mahjong or solitaire every morning and before sleep. it is very calming and a great way to start every day. It’s 5 star’s for both. I do wish I could turn mahjong to landscape orientation as is most comfortable to hold my tablet. also would be nice on mahjong if you had a similar special game section that you do on Solitaire no criticism meant you have put together a wonderful set of games. Well done
Not done badly, actually nice to play. Ads are not too bad to sit through. One problem is the volume levels. For some reason the volume often goes to very quiet, when you're taking some time to find that elusive match for example, then gradually builds back to normal volume as you make more matches. A bit distracting, but the gameplay is not impacted too much. Maybe there's a bug there that can be looked at. If you set the volume it should stay where it is set.
I downloaded many mahjong games and this one is the best. Variety of skill set and interesting boards. However, there should be an option to remove ads. I’m willing to pay, please provide the option. The ads are distracting and extremely annoying.
I like this game except several months back, I opened the game, get a notice of new content and asks if I want to download it. Click the download button, screen pops up thats says the update is downloading 8 card packs and so many new tilesets, but when the app opens, I still have only 9 card packs and the same tilesets. Now I get this upgrade screen everytime I open the app, but no new content. This is getting annoying! There’s a bug in the sotware that needs to be fixed.
Update: Got a new device and signed in, all progress lost. Starts from zero on both the regular game and the challenges. ————— There’s a bug when the app is started up: the wrong game comes up when you try to select one in particular. Also, as others have said, ads get stuck in an endless loop and play loud music even when sound is turned off. Also, confusingly, the game sometimes doesn’t follow the Mahjong convention of having only four duplicate tiles. Otherwise, not a bad game.
Now that we got that out of the way. If I am not incorrect Mahjong from Microsloth came with XP. My Love’s Mother played Mahjong. May she Rest In Peace. I remember the “clacking” when the tiles were dumped, all at once onto the kitchen table - it was a calamity it was so loud. Anywho I finally got my chance (Oh, she offered, Dottie was her name) when this came out. Everybody was playing Pinball and Pool. A very smooth and short learning curve. And always remember where the tiles lie!
1) There needs to be an option to turn the animation off. Some people are prone to nausea with that over the top animation. It’s brilliant looking, but quite unnecessary. 2) Some optimisation needs to be done. It is a severe battery hog. as an example, the battery on my phone and normally only goes down 20% a day while playing other mahjong games. but today, playing Microsoft Mahjong my battery went from 80% to 20% and only three hours.
Constantly has a tile that freezes and flashes red
I have to restart this app at least once per game because a tile will flash red and not allow its match to connect, and the only way to get it to move is to shut down completely and reopen. It also doesn’t always open the specific puzzle number that I touched, it’s like the touch interface is misaligned somehow. The rest of the gameplay as a subscriber is great BUT I am so sick of these bugs.
I am fond of Microsoft games and am happy to see the App Store is offering more of their games. I have a favorite mahong on my computer thats a Microsoft game. I thought this was going to be it, but isn’t . I discovered I really am liking this game and the colors of the tiles change so it’s not boring with the same colors all the time. It’s unique and fun.
Have played the other Microsoft casual games today with no problem. This site come up to the main page but when I hit challenges it tells me it can not download from sever check my connection. All hood on my end. Please take a look at. Thank you.
My mind requires stimulation or boredom sets in. I find that this game helps me very much remedy this! I have found myself playing this game on a rainy day and realizing not only one but two hours have passed. It also makes you feel accomplished because it allows you to pass to different levels!!!
Glad to see this was finally ported from Windows 10 and Windows Phone. This is absolutely the best mahjong game I have played. Ads are not obtrusive. Really fun to play in short or long sessions. Peak 2022 is sitting in my car while on the waitlist for Texas Roadhouse waiting for my number to come up while playing Mahjong.
Please fix the battery drain problem, I had that problem on my Samsung phone, I like to have some battery left for calls, please fix the problem with the application. I am not complaining, but I do find it annoying.
This is a very well developed game and variations of Mahjong … but … but visually it has been ruined. Flashing and constantly movig advertisement ON TOP OF SCREEN HAS TO GO … OUT OF THERE. Flashing adds on top of tge screen are the most DISTRACTING, agravating, and constantly break gaming concentration … move them out or to the bottom. At the top, they have ruined the game, the desire to play the game, the will to finish. PLEASE, GET THOSE INTRUSIVE AND AGRAVATING TYPE OF ADDS OUT OF THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. AGGHHHHH!!!
I have really been enjoying mahjong. I have played it on both my iPad and Fire when that is not available to me. In fact I’d be more than happy to give the 5 stars if it wasn’t for two things. 1) I am suddenly dealing with ads before I can even start a game. I can deal with the those that give me an additional chance to complete the game I am playing. But any other others. 2) The version I have on my Fire 10 offers background music which I happen to enjoy. To be honest I think it helps with my gameplay. But for some reason music isn’t available on the iOS version. As a result I’d like to see an update that gives users the ability to have background music if they want it.
I’ve been a fan of this game for years but had to delete it and am not happy about it. The app kept closing itself in the middle of my challenges and got too annoying by doing so. There are too many other games I can play to waste my time reopening this app over and over just to complete a daily challenge for a game.
Unlike Microsoft Sudoku (named the same in PC & iOS versions) which sync your game progress together, with this install you end up with two games in your XBox account: Microsoft Mahjong (PC), and Mahjong by Microsoft (iOS). This is just a design flaw that makes no sense whatsoever. Even if you have to have different names, you should still be able to synchronize your activities the same as is done with the Sudoku game. Please fix!
My husband and I play all of the different Microsoft apps. Once I saw they had a Mahjong I was thrilled. It’s one of my favorite pastime games! It has a very good balance of easy, medium and hard puzzles. Some of the challenges are pretty difficult and make for a good time. Plus it has some super easy achievements!
Pros: Challenging games at various levels. Nice presentation and animation. Question: When removing matching tiles various tones are played. Do the pitch of the tones have any meaning in the game? Cons: I do not use a login to Xbox live - ever. At times the app wants to download new games. If I say no I cannot access anything but my first level games which I have already completed. Why?
The travel town ads start counting down at about 9999! Nothing allows me back in the game unless I shut my phone off. Thought it was a fluke the first time, but it’s done this two to three times a day for the past week. Every time this ad pops up, in fact.
This used to be a great game. I like playing the daily challenges but it has become unplayable. The game crashes constantly. I can hardly get through one challenge. Today the first game I played crashed several times. I tried the next one and it crashed. I tried again later and was able to complete 4 of the challenges but am unable to complete the 5th. Crash crash crash. If this doesn’t get fixed soon I am deleting and moving on.
Loved the game until this happened. It’s the last day of the month and I had nearly every daily challenge completed, with only about 10/15 left of the 140. I was going to finish them now, but when I went to do so, it said I was now a level one and had 0 challenges completed this month. I only started playing because the same thing happened with my Microsoft sudoku account, as I’m playing mainly for the gamerscore, though I enjoy the puzzles. Really sick and tired of this happening.
It really stinks that you use ads to distract players and make it harder to play! Not only that, but you put flickering, flashing ads at the top of the screen where they cause headaches, migraines and seizures! The color scheme is not all that great—although the backgrounds are nice—so you are already causing eye strain before the ads start. Fix the color scheme, put the ads at the bottom of the screen and stick to static ads!!!
I do like it but one problem I have is that i want the old themes cuz i loved the cosmos one but this newer versions i dont have that and my pc is a 8.1 so i cant make a micrsoft account cuz its to old. Pls bring back the old themes
It keeps telling me that I can’t play because I’m not connected to the internet which l am and I tried to delete the app and reinstall it to no avail, I do enjoy the app so it’s been disappointing that I haven’t been able to play the last few days
I’ve really enjoyed this game and have gone through 7 puzzle packs. However, the game keeps asking me to download the next set of puzzle packs, and when I try to download them, they don’t appear. I’ve been playing the Quick Puzzles but would really like more puzzle packs!
Every so often, two tiles are “stuck” and you can’t clear them, even if they are the last tiles on the board and the hint even points you to them. Shuffling doesn’t fix it either. No way to report it as a problem. You just have to start the game over.
I was just complaining about not having a good mahjong app because I had played through as much solitaire/free cell/etc from Microsoft as I could handle. Made it through 5 games so far and no crashes! Banners at the bottom are kinda hard to read. Seems pushy that they have the ad at the top instead of the menu
Will Not Connect to My Apple Device While others Do
Sadly, Microsoft Classic Solitaire gamesSadly, I can not to Wi-Fi on my Apple devices but can connect on y computer & laptop .This has been going on for years so I stop using it but decided to try again, but no go. Fix the problem Apple
Excellent game. One recommendation- when you have 2 tiles left that are stacked, you cannot finish the game without going back quite a bit. If you iyou only have 2 tiles left, then a shuffle should unstack them so you can complete the game.
I’m 71 years old and I’ve never enjoyed ANYTHING like I enjoy this Game! Nothing! Not even my honeymoon or the birth of my children. I don’t even like spending time writing this review, because it took me away from the Game. Oh BOY, I am one happy camper!
Every time I try to open daily challenges I get a message reading “an error occurred while trying to download data from our servers. Please check your internet and try again” It’s been 48 hours and nothing has changed. It doesn’t matter if I’m connected to wi-fi or using cellular data. I couldn’t find anything under “support” to contact the company directly about this problem.
I upgraded my Windows 7 computer to Windows 11, JUST in hopes it would have the same Mahjong game that had always come with their computers: it does not. So found this on iPhone 13 and was VERY excited. It’s close, but no where NEAR as good as the Windows 7 computer version - my favorite game, for which I held onto my Windows 7 even after it was no longer supported JUST to get keep that game.
Please please add a resume button and remember the last puzzle I was on. When you stop playing the game it will save your progress on your current stack, but you have to remember which category it was in first then click on it. When you do click on the category it starts off at the first puzzle in the category. This is very unintuitive and all it would take is a simple resins button.
This app has suddenly become unstable…crashes a lot. I tried deleting it, reinstalling and logging back in but that didn’t help. I hope the developer sees this & can issue a fix soon. I play every day. But crashes so much now that it’s unplayable. I’m running the app on an iPad Pro with iOS 15.3.1.
SO, there’s a new trend in “free” game ad experiences. Let’s see how long we can abuse a user with an an AD! ROYAL MATCH ads are the worse! SO, the only thing a user can do is delete the game apps of platforms who think they can do this! It’s NOT a trend your platform should follow! The analytics won’t catch up to you until it’s too late! REAd a book called “Market REBELLION” so far you’re breaking ALL the rules!
A beautiful new mahjong game. Two comments: I would love landscape mode, and would like to be able to turn off the visual effects (rainbow circle and tiles bumping into one another) in the same way that one can turn off the sound effects and music.
I really enjoy Mahjong the game and have wrestled with many different versions - I find this one slow and cumbersome - There are things in this version that aren’t allowed to be done - In other versions - that are regular moves that can be made - As I said above I have played many versions of Mahjong this one is not my favorite version -
Game pass doesn’t cover this unfortunately so I’ll probably delete before giving it a real try since the adds are so bad , can’t find a tutorial or explanation of the game anywhere in app so the trial and error to figure out the gameplay is confusing a bit to a beginner , like what’s with the shaded pieces and why meh back to chess
This app does not register completion of a Puzzle Pack
I've completed the one remaining puzzle in puzzle pack 3 about 5 times already. It seems to be recognized as completed properly but the app still shows only 99 of the 100 puzzles are finished. This happened multiple times with other puzzles as well during the completion of the puzzle pack. Get your development team to find this bug. Most annoying!
I love it. One improvement I’ll be looking foe is syncing to my Xbox account. My results don’t sync, though I’m signed in to my account. I can’t always play all 5 games on my iPad (or desktop). That means I needs to play both to get credit for the day’s completion points.
Really enjoyed this game until it started crashing constantly. Previously would only crash when playing the daily challenges but then started crashing during regular game play. This is so frustrating. I keep checking for an update to fix these issues but so far, nothing.
