It would be much better if you could pick the claim You want to look at if there was more than one. You also aren’t able to see the weeks paid out. There should also be information about what is going on if there are things going on with the account because they were incorrectly put in the system so the claimant knows what is going on with the case. If you have tickets being worked on they could at least be listed.
Much improved claim process and app for smart phone is great addition
Overall a 200% improvement over old system. Now some fundamental changes are needed to general forms. ie. If reopening a case don’t treat like as if it is an all new claim. The state asks on the weekly certification whether you refused work. In my case, due to COVID reduction in hours I was receiving benefits. I was asked one week to pick up additional work. That bumped me off for only one week. When I reopened claim it was like starting over. Also I now must answer a questionnaire explaining why I did not look for work when I have worked all summer in a reduced capacity and was granted exemption from looking for work due to COVID-19.
This process through Maryland Unemployment has been the absolute worst by far. I have tried countless times to reach a representative at the unemployment office, only to receive voicemails and prerecorded messages. I have been on the other side of a call center and by no means would it be acceptable not to reach or contact a representative for assistance or some bit of information with regards to your case. I’ve been unemployed for over 6 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Had it not been for my savings and the assistance of my family through the past few months ( who can no longer assist me due to their own problems/situation due to the pandemic as well), I would have lost everything I’ve worked tirelessly to accomplish. I have been applying for employment and hoping for the best.
Hi! My name is Theresa T Shambaugh. And I filed my Webcert for the week ending 2/6/21. The website says that I filed my weekly certification. They gave me a confirmation number. But it says I still have to file a weekly certification. But when I try and do what it wants me to do it says it’s already filed. So I’m in some loop. And it won’t let me file this weeks because even though it says under my listings that I filed it somehow isn’t. And I haven’t gotten paid. I’ve also called you guys every day for over a week. I got through once and talk through a lovely gentleman named James who said it would be fixed by the next day. It wasn’t. And now every time I call we can’t take your phone call. Every number I’ve called.I’ve emailed to her three times to no avail.
The app is easy to use. The only problem with it, is that when you click finish after entering a weekly certification, you are not finished. You think you’re finished, but then the next week you see that it didn’t go through. The app takes you back to the prior week instead of the current week. Then you have to click finish again before it will bring up the current week.
I’m giving you guys an excellent review it’s been a long time coming it’s been very frustrating but you guys have pulled through and I just want to give you a hand up and a clap and a amen be his we’re finally getting some Mexia swim very hard and difficult and some days and then you wanna pull your hair out but you guys are doing an awesome job and I just wanna thank you for that and keep up the good work thanks and be safe.
During these difficult times I have been able to utilize this app to be able to provide my weekly certifications and get assistance as much as I can until I’m able to find a job due to my original building job that I worked at shut down from Covid and still has not opened.I have been able to utilize the app with no issues and it has worked well with me being able to submit my information.
I like this better then online when trying to log on to my account and find information especially for weekly file for benefits payments..plus as of june 2021 has been a rough and confusing time for unemployment benefits recipients! But this app is essential along with being able to log on via computer/ laptop..
While many have complained of delays, set backs, and call frustrations I have been blessed to have a sufficiently satisfying processing time with my claims, payments, and ease of review of information. Its not easy for both recipients and employees on the other end during this time nonetheless, I appreciate all that is being done on behalf of Maryland’s unemployment department to financially assist my family and me during this time! 🙏🏼📿
This app was just fine until the state decided to do an update and caused a glitch in hundreds, if not thousands of people’s accounts causing them not to be able to receive their weekly payments, so I am not sure what was updated as it didn’t not add any value to the app that wasn’t already there. The app does allow claimants to file their claims and such, but that is about it. If you have an issue, you can’t resolve it through the app at all. You have to hope that you can get someone through the call center that seems almost impossible. This experience has been very disappointing to say the least.
The app would be excellent if there weren’t so many maintenance updates on Sunday’s when people start to file their weekly claims. It enables people to file right away and then due to the app still not coming back up after the time noted for the maintenance update, causing people to have to then call the UI telephone number in order to file the weekly claim.
I have had no issues it’s very user friendly. I can usually get my questions answered by looking at my account. If not it’s nice that the government gives you options to email them due to the overwhelming amount of people calling it’s very hard to get through. I have not had any problems at all, thank you.
Shocked that a gov’t app works this well. It’s user friendly interface, easy to navigate, easy to use, works without glitches. Half the private apps I use don’t work this well. In a crazy time, in a frustrating situation, it’s a relief to have one less thing to have to call about or seek help with. Thanks Maryland for investing in making this app so well.
It’s very difficult to contact a live agent. Sometimes it may take a day or two to get a live agent and when finally get someone. It’s a long road from there. Good luck and god bless you. You guys have to do a better in these trying times. Please guys help us a little better we need you guys really. Thank you.
This app has basically been of no use to me no matter how many updated versions are required. I can’t recall the exact amount of times, but I could do my weekly certification using this app approximately 2-3 times in the very beginning and then option to do it disappeared, never to return. The info on this app is never up to date. I no longer receive proper notification of anything. Here it is almost Christmas and access, options and funds have been suddenly stopped without notice or explanation.
My original filing was Aug 14,2020. I’ve have complete each weekly certification since the original filing& to date I have not received compensation. I have called each week to speak with a representative and have not been able to speak with a human. I’m frustrated and suffering with bill collectors and think this entire platform is outrageous and completely demeaning on every level. My status says active but my payments are on hold. I have not been contacted in any form. My anxiety in through the roof and this app is not helping!!! Suzannec914
Just downloaded it. Was able to successfully login. They still have you wait your turn to login if it’s busy though. Scrolled through everything well laid out. Haven’t tried my certification yet but the process through the app sounds pretty easy. Only thing I’d change is adding FaceID/TouchID to login!
Absolutely repulsive that ppl are having to wait months and months for any kind of information. Phone system is a joke! Calling hundreds of times a week to be hung up on. No information to give you any kind of hope through the app. Basic functions that only frustrates ppl. Months waiting, multiple inquiries that lie and say 5-10 business days.. more like months. Fix this!!! Ppl are starving, can’t pay for health insurance, can’t pay bills... months behind on rent! Department of Labor should be ashamed of itself.
much like the Beacon Website, this app is a total let down. After minutes of "loading", an alert shows up saying the app is under "scheduled maintenance" and to try again later. This alert comes up no matter time of day. What a joke. I initially filed in March and have not been able to access the website, the app, speak to someone on the phone, or get an email response back! Like many others, I'm about to lose my house. And it's not like I could afford to hire a lawyer! Shame on you, maryland!
This system has been nothing short of a blessing to our family. Since it’s been up and running I’ve had ZERO issues with the app. Plenty of issue with the way funds were distributed, but that has NO bearing n my review for this app.
I have not been able to log into my portal via the app because for the last 3months its been under maintenance and states “ The BEACON application is currently unavailable to perform maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.” No matter what time I attempt to log in. It the same prompt. However this is after the supposed update back in March. Its pointless! I hope hope it will be fixed soon because it definitely is an inconvenience!
The app works and looks nice. The only problem I have is the messaging feature. I can’t open messages in the app which makes the feature seem pointless since I have to sign on in the website in order to read them.
The App is Very Easy to Use and Navigate My PUA Unemployment Work Certifications! As long as one takes their time and looks thoroughly at what is needed, you can file your weekly certification in a matter of minutes. Good App to Assist in Getting through these uncertain economic times!
The app makes it’s easier to do my weekly certification than going online. I can easily sign in and go through the steps with no problems. It’s a good app to me as long as it remains safe, quick, and privately secure.
I am rating 3 stars due to the very limited capabilities within this app. However, I think it has great potential and at the same time I appreciate it’s convenience. I think most people would agree that the Beacon site was just terrible to start out yet they have seemed to be ironing out those wrinkles. So, I’m excited to see what the new updates will bring to this app. Not bad.
Marylanders are suffering. In some cases, they are ding of hardships due to the Covid 19, yes “19” not 20, pandemic and yet the man is playing a lot of game with the financial help Congress allocated for Marylanders. If you can not get the app or the website to work consistently or you unable to resolve issues in a reasonable time then the funds should be given for humanitarian reasons especially, if the person already pass initial qualifications. Stop the political games and help the people.
So they came out with a brand new app to go along with their new web app, BEACON. It’s all better than the system that was there previously, but it still needs some work to iron out the kinks and make this thing as simple and straight forward as it should be.
The ap makes it easy to complete certifications and check for any correspondence that may have been missed. I like that past correspondence are downloadable, as it makes for easier personal record keeping.
After months of calling and finally getting someone I was directed to use the app after it was Reactivated I was able to do what was required keeping my fingers crossed 🤞
I downloaded the app thinking it would be better than the portal
Because the portal only displays action items I downloaded the app thinking I would have more access to the site, however, I have been restricted from access of the app but can use the portal which doesn’t tell me anything new. I need some help because calling unemployment is crazy they take u thru the prompt then hangs up smh.
On both the redone online webpage, and this new Mobile app I have no “Weekly cert” link. Even tho it is shown on sample pages on the download page, my menu is slightly different with the cert link missing. I have a current ongoing claim, but cannot find a way to certify. Update: still missing Webcert choice, but I completed weekly certs by phone call.
I have been on hold for 8 weeks now! I am told when I reapplied that their is a computerGlitch that it has to be sent to another department. I have only got thought to a person 3 times in two months. Last said it looks like someone is working on it and that was a week ago and nothing! I am stuck! I have been looking for work and not getting anywhere there and no money coming in. Please Please Please can we get this fixed!! They all see the computer problem but they can’t fix it and who can Nothing is happening!! Please Help! Thank You! Laura Smith
I really don’t see the purpose of this app! I downloaded it just to be able to look at everything , but you can’t click or open messages (only mark then read) you can’t upload documents (only view already uploaded documents) and everything else on there you just view , nothing is clickable or helpful . I thought this app would be better than just going online but clearly not, it’s just as bad !

This app doesn’t allow me to do any of the functions I am supposed to be able to do. I cannot file weekly claims, I’ve tried to contact to get fixed and am given run around a that it will be fixed. Been trying to get this fixed for weeks with no help after I have utilized every form of way to contact someone to try to get this resolved.
I find working with the app is easier and more “friendly” than navigating through the website. When the app became available I downloaded it immediately! Thank you!
At the beginning this App was the best but, when it came down to the extension process there was no way to enter weekly filings because your regular unemployment was exhausted also the extension process was very difficult and hard to get answers or replies
This has got to the most annoying system ever!! If I could give -0 stars I would tbh. There’s a “glitch” with the system that’s preventing people from filing weekly claims and now my account won’t show my action items so I’m forced to call in order to file my certification and have been calling since Sunday, it is now Thursday and I still can’t reach an actual live agent!!!! I’m so frustrated and idk what else to do atp. The whole system is absolute trash!
I do find somethings easier to navigate / find on the web portal vs the app, but for the most part it’s very users friendly. I haven’t been able to find the options to run reports on the app only in the web portal. I’m not sure if it’s my phone or the actual wed portal, but I’ve tried several times to export the reports for payment history and haven’t been successful. I’m not sure if it’s to big or I’m just not able to export the report using an iPhone. I have tried both excel and PDF, but neither option will work. Thanks, Heather
People are in need an they wanna actually get results not listening to some automated voice messages system hang up on them you guys gotta do better we look to you during these times an all you’ve shown us is we can’t depend on you how bout y’all update the app so people could see when they will get an interview!!!!! The app nor beacon website gives me the option to file my weekly claim! The app has all the other tabs listed. I have to file over the phone!!! Really??? One of my friends also has unemployment and their tab shows “file my webcert” listed on the left in the app. Very frustrating considering I’ve had so many problems already with this system!
In such difficult times, & after so difficult, a time, getting this started, this app has been wonderful! Hopefully things will get back to “normal” & I won’t need this anymore!
Filing is easy as this is my first time ever I’ve had to file. Tho I’ve been filling my certification out for the past 5 weeks, and approved. I’ve received nothing, going on 6 weeks now. Waiting on my interview??
Because that’s what it deserves. It’s next to impossible to get someone on the phone. And now it has been impossible to access the website at all times of day and night. Either on thru a browser or this app I can’t file my weekly claim. Maryland has got to have the most Byzantine and user unfriendly unemployment system in America!
I have been waiting while trying to become gainfully employed and the system that is in place where it looks good is not properly working. It’s a shame I have worked for many years and now that this crisis has taken place it’s been a struggle daily. This whole unemployment situation is absolutely the worst ever !!!!! I am disgusted but hopeful that eventually I will speak to a live person and get this situation handled !

I cannot log into my account. I emailed 3 times, with no response. I called many times and cannot get through. I submit my claim through the recording. I would like to see my account. Very aggravated.I try to get a representative and that is impossible. Very aggravated. I have tried everything. I even tried the virtual representative through text message. That was useless Something needs to be done.
The system does not give me the option to submit anything like weekly certifications, when calling the 1800 number is the same, not weeks available and if I try log in from the regular website it does not show anything available to submit but shows a balance. Horrible app, there is always something wrong with it.
The app needs to have a live agent for assistance someone needs to be available at all times while we are doing these things online I have been trying to locate my debit card for a month I need assistance on my debit card through the mail. I need help thank you.
