Great when it works
We have had this fan for three or four years. We have always managed to get it to work, though it can be finicky. It recently stopped working from Alexa. I tried resetting it from the wall control, but the app would just keep spinning at the point where it is searching for the network. I finally tried uninstalling the app from my iPhone (rebooted phone before reinstalling). Then when I got to the part where it searches for the network, I was able to manually add the name and password for my home network (click the network icon at the bottom of that page to be able to manually add). Now it is working again. I hope that helps someone else who is having trouble with getting stuck on the spinning network search.

Good luck!
Getting this app to connect and work with your fans is problematic at best and enraging at its worst. This has has been nothing but frustrating trying to get the app to even connect with the remote and then it seems quite random as to when it chooses to work or not. I had the issue of connecting it with the app and then the wall controls wouldn’t work, only way I could change the settings then was via the app which was not ideal. I have found that the only thing that seems to work for this fan is just set it and forget it, otherwise you just never know what hoops you have to jump through to turn on the light or change the fan speed. I changed internet providers recently and have the joy of trying to get this fan and app switched over - on day 2 now of this ridiculous exercise. No problems with the other 15 or so items I had to switch over, this fan is the last item and the one causing the most problems. Never would I ever choose this brand again. Good luck getting this to work - with today’s technology it shouldn’t be this difficult!

Why are there so many 4 star reviews?!
I honestly wish this fan had no wifi claim and came without an app at this point. Both the app and the wifi connection are some of the worst I’ve seen. For those struggling to connect, you have to delete the app and reinstall it. Thankfully it takes less than 1 minute now, so it’s not that much of a pain. The problem is that you are often stuck waiting for it to connect in the 1st place. The reason I gave it more than 1 star, is because it does work most of the time. But we do not live in a world where that is good enough. It is completely inexcusable to expect your customer to be happy with this service. I’m honestly shocked by the number of great reviews. Because I have read a lot of 1 star reviews which confirm what I have experienced. So I question the authenticity of some of the rave experiences out there. Since I have acquired this app, I have had a flood of problems. Unfortunately I am stuck with the fans in the house, otherwise this would be replaced by something that works.

Modern Forms Fan App
My review from two years ago is below. Since that time this app has miserably failed me. “Great app and works well. Problems are that regardless of how you arrange the fans and groups they always default back to what the app wants. And, AFAIK there is no API to allow control via URL HTTP or other means to allow home automation integration. Please update me if my understanding is incomplete.” To clarify, the app arranges your fans in alphabetical order, not how you arrange them in the configurator. So maybe numerical prefixes would help? Worse than this, however, is that the app is completely unreliable. I cannot control my fans from the app at all. The cloud icon on all of my fans as a strike through. I have gone through the repairing process on multiple occasions and I have tried to reinstall the app but none of these work reliably. I have nine of these fans in my house and it is so frustrating to have a useless application to control them. I have other home automation devices that work perfectly. I would keep away from Modern Forms if you hope to take advantage of home automation.

Pretty Cool Fans
Was able to install these fans pretty easily. Set up on the app was quick and painless. Also was able to connect them to Alexa via the skill. They work most of the time. I have two fans and I find the most common problem is I will ask Alexa or use the app to power on the fans and only one of the two will turn on. If I repeat the command to Alexa or the app it seems to correct the problem. It happens maybe once every 10 times I try and use it. Not game breaking at all but a minor bug. Not sure if it’s the fan/app/Alexa skill or something else. I look forward to updates and bug fixes and ecobee integration when that comes out. Overall I’m satisfied.

App functionality is unreliable
Fan constantly disconnects from the app. Calling/emailing support will not do you any good. You either never get through or you’ll get an email 3 weeks later apologizing for the delay and asking if your issue was resolved. Don’t bother responding with and a begging for help because you’ll never hear from them again. Fan itself works perfectly and quietly. Sometimes it looses connection with Alexa. I’ll give her a command for the Fan and she says that device cannot be located. So I’ll just start using the wall switch which always works. And then mysteriously after a few weeks, if you try Alexa, she’s back connected to it…? I blame the fan not Alexa. 99% of the time I just get up and use the wall switch because I hate being disappointed when Alexa can’t connect to it. I finally just deleted the app because it’s garbage. Thing is, I didn’t buy a WiFi enabled ceiling fan so I can get up and use the switch!

The App Works Sometimes
It feels like most of the options on the app don’t work, or are just randomly problematic. Here are some issues I have run into. -When trying to turn on/off lights the app won’t connect to the fan half the time. -Setting a schedule only seems to save 1 fan and a max of 2 schedules. -Editing schedules seems to save random information, i.e. it will save all days of the week when not selected. -Adding more than 3 fans to a group will give you the error “Tips” We really love our fans but the app is mostly useless and we are better off just getting up to turn on/off the fans instead of using its “smart” features. After talking to support I was told the developer of the app would get in touch. I’ve heard nothing since and I’m now having issues like my daughters light turning on at 4am on random days. I do not recommend this app to even my worst enemy.

Works, but overly complicated and unreliable
The Modern Forms app works most of the time. Bearing in mind that its purpose is to turn a light or a fan on and off, there is absolutely no need for all of the security nonsense. Go through Multi Factor Authentication to turn on a light! Give me a break. iPhone should send a signal to turn the fan on or off when in the house without any need to ‘sign in’. The application would be improved, however if it integrated with Apple Home, which it does not for reasons unknown. Finally, programming a light or fan to go on or off at specified times of the day is needlessly complex. Having to define routines, and then assigning the routines is backwards. Far easier: present the fan, assign times to start and stop - unless the user has 100’s of them in which case the routine provided may be most efficient.

Great fans horrible app
Bought 2 Modern Forms fans for our patio a few months ago. Several times I have had to go through the WiFi Reset or Factory Reset to reconnect the fans to the app. Things finally seems to have stabilized for a while, so I added a 3rd fan in the house. Now when I try to add the fan to the app, the app hangs in “Scanning for networks”. There is no way to cancel, no timeout, the app just hangs forever. There is an option to enter the network info manually. That’s great, and when I do that the network connection is established. However, the app still goes in to scanning (with no way to cancel) so the next step of naming the device is blocked by the scanning modal icon. That is just poor and sloppy software development. How can you NOT have a cancel or timeout on a network scan? How can you leave a modal icon blocking the screen? The rest of the app is just ok. Turning on and off fan and lights works, but forget trying to create a schedule. Google Home integration only allows fans and lights to be turned on and off (no level control). I am awaiting a reply to my email support request. Perhaps their response will help improve this review. In short don’t buy the fans for the app or smart home integration. Modern Forms has a very long way to go with Modern Software.

House full of fans
We bought seven fans for our new construction and the app makes it easy to control them all. The WiFi setup process is pretty straightforward. Switching WiFi networks was a little less obvious. I ended up deleting each fan and reregistering it. I set up two daily schedule events for a fan in seconds. Strangely, the daily event seemed to be stored as seven separate events, one for each day. Maybe I accidentally altered one day and broke the grouping, but when I went to delete the event I had to go to each day of the week.

Love this fan
I had the right person to install ... everything was seamless. When it was unpacked everything was beautifully protected in the box. I am pretty hard to please and certainly not technically. However, this fan is absolutely silent, moves air through 6 different speeds and the light dims. I love that the remote is my phone... or Alexa ... or the wall. Once you get the hang of it- perfection. My only disappointment is that I tried to order a second one for my family room only to learn it wasn’t available. I will keep checking.

Works now but still missing features
When I first installed the sand 2.5 years ago I had already been through another fan manufactures wifi fiasco and gave up at the first sign of trouble. I have two of te Aviator fans outdoors and figured the remote was good enough. Just a few weeks ago I tried to connect them to wifi, and to my amazement both connected and updated with barely any trouble at all. I didn’t leave a review before, but now that it works I’m happy to leave a 3 star review since the app is functional. To earn the extra two stars would require adding Apple widgets or shortcuts to the app. Thanks

Expensive garbage. Epic headache. Over complicated junk.
The Bluetooth remote controls are garbage. They constantly lose connectivity. And this smartphone app has NEVER worked right. For four years now I have had two modern forms fans in neighboring rooms. One of the wall remote controls would control both fans and I could not reprogram it to work correctly. I’ve tried everything including contacting modern forms multiple times for trouble shooting. During the most recent phone call, modern forms stated they were sending a new control module (I think that’s what it’s called) for the malfunctioning fan, but it never arrived. I finally removed the fan that did not work and sent it to the landfill. $500 down the drain. Now the second fan does not work either. I’ve gone through the troubleshooting and reprogramming process with these fans so many times Im ready to give up on this one too, once I can afford a new fan that actually works. Maybe one without Bluetooth. I’ve never spent so much money on an appliance and have it be utter junk.

Fans are good, App needs a lot of work.
The fans are great. Love them. However, the app is absolutely terrible. 1) latest version of the app has made it impossible for me to access my fans from the app. The app wants me to authenticate every time (I sign in using google), but it gets stuck on connecting part. I have to uninstall and reinstall for the app to work one or two times before same issues. This needs fix ASAP. 2) where is the Nest support? It’s been promised for a long time and still nothing. 3) Alexa integration only works if you have an account through their service. If you used google to log in like me, you literally can not integrate. Can you fix this? People pay a premium for these fans. Build quality and performance of fans is great, but the software support needs a lot of work. Most importantly, please don’t promise things that are not simply true on your website. The website still says Nest, Alexa and all other integrations that just don’t work.

Major Scheduling Problems
I really like the fans, but scheduling fans/lights to turn on/off has major problems. You can't just schedule the fan or the light to turn on/off, both of these are scheduled at the time you select. I found out the hard way when I wanted to change the fan speed in our bedroom around 4AM. When it was 4AM the fan changed speed, but the light turned on at full intensity waking me up. If you delete the light occurrence on the schedule, it also deletes the fan occurrence. You have to leave both the light and fan activities for each time on the schedule. My workaround is to change the light intensity to off at every occurrence on the weekly schedule.

OMG I Hate This Fan and App So Much
It’s the worst. I’ve never had anything perform so poorly in my entire device-buying life. Stops working randomly. Kill the app, restart it. Nope. Delete the app and re-download it. Hey! Working again! Oops, that was an awesome thirty seconds, but it stopped working again. Ok should be easy to reset, right? Nah. Get a 25’ ladder, climb up to where the fan is mounted, hit the reset button but ONLY after sprinting to the basement to flip the breaker and kill the power to the fan then turn it back on. Hey, but it works again! For a few days. Then nada. Did I change anything? No. No, I did not. This fan and app have actively made my life worse. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. Just. The. Worst.

Find another fan
It's unfortunate that their fans and lights are so aestheticly pleasing because the app is so bad that I will not buy another product of theirs. The app connects when it wants to which is less than half of the time. Want to set up your fan/ light on a schedule? Good luck and prepare for an extremely aggravating experience. Think you can just make a change on a current schedule, nah, you're going to have to delete it and start a new schedule. I know reading the above you would expect top notch engineering for the remote, surprise, that barely works also. Great design placing the magnet, that holds the remote to the wall, opposite of the battery compartment so when you put the remote on the holder on the wall, it pulls on the batteries enough that it doesn't have power. The only positive I have to give about this company are the visual design. Get past the looks and it's all garbage. I don't write reviews ever, especially this long, but I just had to because I hate this app sooo much. I hate it.

I have 5 modern form fans and love em.
They work great and are very quiet. I did need supper send me a new light when the light remained glowing even when off. The new light worked great. I did make a mistake setting up the app again on a new phone. I thought I lost the setting. But it turns out I had used the wrong email address to login. I tried my other email address and all my setting appeared. Anyway, good smart fan and the customer support is great.

Love your fans. Very quite and efficient operation. I like the phone app. Glad I have an iPhone. Only disappointment was the wall mount control. Didn’t work. Had to return. I wish y’all had just suggested buying an old iPad and a wall mount for it. Would have saved me a lot of headache and time. Gonna be ordering my 5 th fan for my vacation /rental in the next week or so. Everyone that has seen them asks about them. Impressive units. Thanks Kevin Hancock

Good Fans. Mixed App.
To start, there are really two parts to Modern Forms fans. The fan and the app. The fans work like fans should. The app? Generally well laid out and easy to use. You’re able to control the fan and the lights as well as some nifty automation and scheduling. That’s all well and good. It’s pretty responsive. However, WHY DO YOU NOT SUPPORT LANDSCAPE ON THE IPAD? It’s a simple thing. I have iPads as home automation hubs and as a work “computer” with keyboard folio. They are in landscape mode 100% of the time and the app does not support the orientation. Come on man. It’s 2020. I’m not asking for much here. LANDSCAPE PLEASE.

This app has issues
We have two ceiling fans that are paired with this app. I am lucky if I can execute one adjustment in the app before it begins searching for the network and becomes unusable. We usually just leave our fans on full speed and just turn them on and off with the light switch as the app can be so unpredictable. I frequently check the App Store for updates and none are available. I have already had to perform factory resets on my fans that were only installed about 6 months ago. If the app worked consistently, it would have a lot of nice features. Unfortunately, it’s very finicky and frustrating.

Great Fan, Amateur App
I absolutely love these fans. I got 2 of the 38" fans and they pack a punch and do a wonderful job cooling my office and bedroom. However, the app rarely works, and looks like it was built by mobile developers from 2009. Weird design choices get in way of actually using the app, and even more importantly, it's hit or miss whether the app successfully connects to the fan in the first place. Fortunately the saving grace of these fans is that the Bluetooth remote that comes with them works, as does the Google Home / Alexa integration. I've had to train myself to always use my voice to control the fan and light and then I'm generally pretty happy. This highlights the fact that the issue is with the mobile app, since Alexa can communicate with the fan over WiFi successfully. Fire your mobile app development team and start fresh, or outsource this to a company that knows what they're doing. If this were my company I'd be embarrassed to call this my app, it is extremely bad.

Great concept, App is terrible
Constantly disconnects from the integrations. Alexa and EcoBee in particular. Both fans in range, and on the same WiFi, still lose connection. Even after reboot and further troubleshooting. I have fully reset many times. Love the idea, read mixed reviews with most negatives around the app. I figured the app would improve over time…Here I am a year later and can’t connect and get my fans to stay off every time the heater turns on. Could be great, but Modern Forms is not investing in improving the software for this, could be, smart fan.

Can’t control my fan at all
It’s like the app isn’t even connecting to the internet. I don’t have the WiFi/cloud symbols at the top left anymore. And if I tap on FAQ it just spins and freezes the whole app. I power cycled the fan at the wall switch and that does nothing. I have zero control right now. It’s on the 2 setting that it was when it all disconnected or it’s off if I pull the tab. And no way to get the light to work at all. I’m so frustrated!! It was also so difficult to install, and expensive that I want it to work. But I’m about to try to figure out how to get my money back.

Latest version fixed problems
I had lost control of two fans and wasn’t even able to delete them from the cloud. Latest update fixed all that and allowed me to update their firmware. Now works as advertised. What would make it better? Landscape format for iPad and addition of native Apple HomeKit support, though I am able to use Homebridge to control them.

App does not work
Lots of things wrong. I have 2 of these fans. One did not set up (the app). The iPhone kept trying until it timed out. This company only gives you one shot, otherwise you cannot connect it to the app. The other one did successfully set up. But if you turn it on or off from the app, the wall switch does not work properly. And vice versa too. And usually when I open the app on my phone, it first shuts down the app. Second time launch then works. There is more. Very disappointed as I spent almost $1000 for two of these fans. Electrician had to call help desk to install. Cost over $500 to install the two fans.

Want to love it
Want to love it, but the scheduling function simply does not work. If I schedule the living room light to turn on between 5 and 7 AM Monday through Friday, the fan in the front room (not the living room) will decide to schedule itself starting at 7 AM in perpetuity until someone realizes it turned itself on. I’ll then try and reschedule the lights to turn on as I originally instructed and the a similar scheduling mishap will take place. I’ve given up on the scheduling function. Otherwise, the app is great.

Two Steps backwards (updated)
Not sure what this update was supposed to accomplish. I couldn’t get the firmware update, so I tried to remove the fan to start over. The app wouldn’t let me remove the fan. It just got stuck in a loop and never removed the fan... even after force quitting the app. ***Updated to 3 stars from 2.*** After some issues with resetting both fans I was finally able to getting everything working and stable for the last week or so days. The app still needs work. Particularly with adding new devices to make that more streamlined. I would say forget the schedules feature in the app. Leave that to the Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings, etc. apps. It’s probably not worth the the investment by your developers. Just clean up 3rd party app and integration and make sure that works consistently.

App works. We have 7 fans on the app in a single group for our outside area. Open the app and it goes to a single fan. Click the group and it shows fans and lights on 100% Will also change to the first fan to the right of the group as you start to turn fan or lights on. Then I’d course you have to turn off and deselect the group and try again It does work but you have to be patient and allow a few seconds between selections to ensure the app keeps up

How did we live without this?
We just love our Modern Forms fans and this app. We’ve been using it for a year and a half. It works perfectly on all devices and with Alexa. We have 8 of these fans in our home. The ability to create groups of fans is also very helpful. We don’t even touch the wall switches or remotes anymore. Great job Modern Forms!

They fixed it!
So I wrote a pretty scathing review (deservedly ) and received a response from Modern Forms to try the new release. You know what? They fixed the connectivity issues and the app actually works well now. Has it dropped a couple of times, yes, but compared to prior versions it works as advertised. Good job! Keep perfecting it and I will consider another Modern Form fan in the future.

Highly recommend
Loving the fan and that I can control from my phone. Haven’t figured out how to use it via my ECHO. Easy to install . Highly recommend . We bought three however we had to return one as it wouldn’t work. We were able to replace it for free. We have never had a fan w just 3 blades. It works great - 6 speeds AND THE BREEZE MODE IS So cool!!

We love how smart this fan and light works... i can turn on the fan from anywhere in the world i might be... imagine you’re catching a flight and you forgot to turn off the light or fan... well now it doesn’t matter because you can control from anywhere as long as you have internet capabilities...

App is terrible.
App is terrible. My WiFi name and password changed. App instructions say to connect phone to the Modern Forms Fan WiFi first. Then reset App and hit + to add the network. When I do that the App takes me to a screen saying choose a network. However, the App immediately indicates the Firmware needs updating and then goes into an infinite loop checking for an update, installing from where I have no idea since the phone is connected to the fan and not the network. Then it indicates updates are installed and starts loop all over. Can’t show any networks since locked in loop.

Do not buy a fan from them!
I regret my purchase of a modern fan and their app is absolutely horrible. I purchased their fan over 2 years ago and I’ve constantly had to re-add the fan to the app as the cloud loses its registration. This past week alone I’ve had to re-add the fan over 30 times after it beeps 3 times, turns off, broadcasts its local wifi and sure enough, no cloud registration. If I didn’t have this fan hanging up so high that scaffolding is needed to get to it, I would have ripped it out and thrown it in the trash.

App is excellent, remote is not
I’m almost always a remote >> app guy, but this one is an exception. As great as their app is, their remote is terrible. App is intuitive, user friendly, and graphically well done. The remote is not. If you buy this product, plan on using the app exclusively.

Fan app and remote wont work
I have multiple fans in the house that have wifi set ups. Modern Forms is terrible. No matter what I do it will not reset or connect. Can get it to connect to the internet every time and still will not work. Just get the cloud with a / through it. So much for having a nice fan with easy access for use. I will never buy a Modern Forms Fan again and will be replacing this one. The Bond platform for installing fans works awesome and never an issue will look to replace with that.

We like the convenience of the app, ability to schedule and the away features. It’s really good at turning the fan and light on and off. The schedule feature needs a lot of work. Randomly the schedule will just delete and you have to re-enter. You can only add a common weekly schedule, you can’t delete a common weekly schedule. Also, if you program only the fan to then on, many times the light will also turn on when it’s not programmed too

Where’s the Nest Integration?!?
Still no update for Nest!!! Where is the Nest Thermostat Integration function?!? It was removed way over two years ago labeled as “temporary.” Why was it removed and when are you planning to bring it back? Two years is hardly temporary. Bought your fan because it was advertised as working with Nest. Why Ecobee and not Nest? Will not be happy with your products until this integration is added back and working as advertised. I will not buy the other two fans from you I was planning unless they work with Nest!

Portrait and Landscape
So we are a systems integrator. Needed to find a way for the fans to work in a house via a 3rd party control system. We have a wall mounted ipad so we decided to go with the app and Wifi Setup. Fans connected to app no problem.... except you cant spin the app to Landscape! Most smart home apps can be viewed either way. Can you please allow for the app to spin Landscape, other then that it seems pretty good so far.

Most of the time the modern forms fan is not connected to the network therefore the app doesn’t work. I have several other “smart” devices in the same room that don’t have this problem. I like the fan and it works with the supplied remote but I wish I wouldn’t have paid for the smart features. I’ve deleted everything and reinstalled and it will work for a day or two but I’ve given up on it now. Got tired of lugging the ladder around resetting it.

App locks up on login
When the app is working, it’s great. It’s very easy to set up multiple fans/lights. The integration feature does not work well, where you can control multiple devices with a single button. I just have to turn each device on individually. Lately, I’m not able to log in to the app. When I open the app, it gets stuck attempting to log me in and I’m not able to override it, even by closing and restarting the app.

Worst experience
Pathetic app. No easy connectivity. Even the review comment section does not write down in black font. I believe i am writing and guessing that i am writing it right as everything is coming in white font with white background. Sync capability with alexa has to he made every month. I have gigfiber connection at home but yet the connectivity with fan gets disconnected. All my other devices does not have any issues. If i have chance to switch, i would swifch.

App has a hard time keeping “log to cloud” checked
For some reason, the app continues to uncheck the “log to cloud” option so the app isn’t ever sure of the current state of my fans. Quite annoying to have to continually go into settings to recheck this option over and over again. On the rare occurrence that the app retains this option selected, the app works well.

Alexa functionality quirky
Alexa can finally turn on the fan, but it always activates the breeze setting regardless of the speed I set or even if I just turn it on. Easier to use the remote or the app. That being said, the app is laggy. When I change the speed using it, the slider is still jumping back to the previously set speed. Takes a few attempts for it to actuate.

non-functional
this app worked the first time i connected it to the fan. now, all it does is default connect my phone to the modern forms wifi network instead of my actual wifi network and NOT turn the fan on or even reflect that the fan is on … when it is. the app also gives no error message or warning that the fan isn’t connected.

Very low reliability
I love the look of these fans (I have 5 throughout my house) and the DC motors. However, a big part of my purchase decision was the ability to control them through the app and that constantly fails. I’ve had other high end fans in the past and now wish I’d stuck with them, as controlling these fans has become more of a headache than it’s worth.

I do not recommend this product.
I’ve had this fan 3 1/2 months and and extremely disappointed as the fan and app do not communicate. The fan turns off whenever it wants, sometimes restarts, and frequently I must reset circuit breaker, They had tried a couple of things over the last 6 weeks, asked me to wait for an update which did not work, and now waiting for a new “receiving box. For the $275 , I really expected primo service. I give this product a “1”

Unreliable fan
With the brand-new fan, this app worked for me when the remote did not, which was frustratingly often. We even bought a new remote and batteries, but it didn’t make any difference. Now a year later, the remote is more finicky, and the app didn’t work at first, but then it came to life and appears to be the only way to get this fan to operate.

Doesn’t work
We really liked this fan and app at first but it hasn’t worked for a very long time. It simply won’t connect to the fan anymore and just spins endlessly so it can only be controlled with the remote control (which beeps loudly so it’s not ideal when my partner is asleep). It’s disappointing to see the developers not addressing the large number of 1 star reviews that are coming in recently. Hope they will address the app issues.
