I love this game, and have been playing for years. But PLEASE stop that annoying, never-ending music from the Zen word search game. Once the ad plays, the music DOES NOT stop playing……..It’s SO irritating. This is more info on my above complaint. The music from the Zen word game ad continues to play through other ads and while I’m playing Monkey Wrench. I’ll try to send a couple videos showing this problem. Thanks…. PS…….Darn! I just can’t seem to attach a video. The two I wanted to send showed (with audio) Zen Word’s ad music playing over another vender’s ad, and playing while I was playing Monkey Wrench! I have the same problem while playing 7 Little Words. I hope you can fix this. Thanks so much for fixing this problem…..such a relief. I’ll continue to enjoy playing Monkey Wrench every day! 👍😋
Part of my daily dose of critical thinking to keep my brain sharp. I like that it has three levels of difficulty and lets me choose which one I want to use. Begin at “easy” to get the feel of the game. Move to regular mode until comfortable with your guesses. Now, after years of play, I only choose hard mode and that is just the maximum complexity I need for the game to be challenging yet still fun. As with their Red Herring game, I also find that I sometimes want to search the web to understand why a word I guessed was correct. That keeps we learning about aspects I life I may never had thought about. Simply UI. They don’t mess around with unnecessary updates that would ruin a perfectly made game like other free apps.
I too love the game and have purchased puzzle packs. However, for the past week, I have been seeing an ad after I play the daily game. I am one of those people who will generally buy the privilege to not see ads, but this is not even a choice! I did notice the choice is offered for the express version of your game, so perhaps I will switch to that - as I have done for seven little words app. In general, I think the games that are most successful at using this model are those that offer an opt out option, or, ask you if you want to watch an ad BEFORE the bonus is given.
All of a sudden I can’t access it unless I agree/disagree to have my info marketed. I did not agree and it pops up a ‘thank you’ for agreeing. I had to contact the company they use and I can’t delete my info as I don’t have google ads. I was just asked by Apple if I wanted to update this. Apparently I’ll still receive ads that aren’t targeted. I’d still rather have that than give them more info about me. Also, I had to contact the ad mngmt company to find out how to remove the notice so I could access the game. It took a few steps including downloading another app! If you’re not tech savvy it could be very frustrating.
I love word games and this one is excellent. It's easy to start and hard to walk away from. And it has become part of my daily routine. My only criticisms are that I agree that the categories could be more interesting, but more importantly, the answers should be correct. Whoever creates the categories needs to check the answers a little more thoroughly. Hello Dolly is not a Gene Kelly movie. Nor was Tim Robbins in Twister. Other than that I highly recommend the game.
I still play the game and have purchased a few puzzle packs. But between the ridiculous 30-second ads in the daily puzzles and what seems like a lack of effort to come up with decent puzzle answers, I’m really disappointed. Current example of the laziness in puzzle answers is from the June 23 daily puzzle. Ready? People from 1950s history: Patsy Cline, Gene Autry, and Jack Webb. How is that “history”? That is entertainment, not history! This is not an isolated example, and has become more frequent. This is really low-effort puzzle building. Please lose the obnoxious ads and put some decent effort back into your puzzles. I just can’t see buying any more puzzle packs if the developer won’t make an effort on their end.
The game is good,challenging, and enjoyable. My dislike is that when playing the daily free puzzle, I cannot turn off the sound in the ad. Sometimes it just isn’t appropriate to have sound, such as when in a waiting room, or on a line, or in any public place. Please allow us to turn off all sounds. Also the ads are way too long for an app. Check out the way the Solitaire app does ads. I actually look at those ads. These are too loud and too long. So if I am going to play the free puzzles, I turn the sound off on my phone, tap on the daily free puzzle, put the phone down and walk away. When I come back I play the game. So the long ads have made me totally ignore them. Plus I rarely play the game anymore because of the ads.
I’ve loved this game for a long time, and have often reinstalled it. However, the ads in the daily puzzles often lead me to delete it. I live daily challenges, but this game doesn’t ask if I wish to watch an ad, or give me the option to go back to the main page to skip bonus puzzles. As soon as I finish the daily puzzle, even if I hit the ‘x”, BAM ad and the bonus puzzle. It would be awesome to either opt out of the bonus puzzles and go back home without it automatically playing, or an option to buy and remove ads forever (an option I generally pay for on my most played games).
I love this game. And when I say that, I mean I LOVE this game. I have literally purchased every available new game pack (except the dailies, but that’s just because I play them nearly every day while I wait for new packs to become available). So, why only 4 stars? Since the new pack, “Sugarcane,” has become available I’ve been unable to play it. I made my purchase, but it still shows the price and won’t allow me to open it. I’ve attempted to purchase it again, thinking there was a glitch in the purchase, but it tells me it’s already been purchased and will be restored for free. The wrench then proceeds to spin...until it doesn’t and the game freezes forcing me to close the app. I powered down my phone and restarted. No change. I even tried to offload the app and reinstall, but it still just shows me that $1.99 instead of making the pack available to play. This is truly my favorite word game on my phone (obviously). Please help me be able to play again.
I have played your game daily for years and really enjoy it. However over the past few months I am finding ads that do NOT end. I just got stuck with the Air Brush App. I watched the subject deleted from the man on the street, the two extra people in the field with the little girl, the grey goose and partial white one disappear 10 times, each time tapping DONE only to be returned to watch the uninteresting series again and again. Do I need to provide the definition of the word “DONE?” Are these ads not tested? The ridiculous time involved is one thing, but the lack of consideration for those like me who have Parkinson’s and hand disabilities is disturbing. Unfortunately if this ad problem continues, your game, which as I said before is a great game, and anything else from your group will need to be deleted. Thank you for listening.
I like the diversity in the categories in this game, but some of the answers I think are a stretch. For example, one of the categories was “movies about slavery” and the answer was “Planet of the Apes.” Now I see how that could fit if I really think about it, but it makes it extremely unsatisfying to figure out the answer when it just feels so...out of place. Another example is today, one of the categories was “famous biologists” and the answer was “Jane Goodall,” who is not a biologist. I just think this would be a more satisfying experience overall if the answers in the categories did not feel so random.
Please remove pop ups that prevent solving the puzzle!!!
I love the app but tonight adds shows up across the. Bottom and blocks the letters to solve the puzzle. Please remove that! Five stars without that ad. Zero stars with it because you can’t solve it. Again, I am begging you! I can’t play when there is an add across the grid!!! Please do not allow ads to block the puzzle making it impossible to do the puzzle!! Tonight it is an ad for Uberdelivery. I will have to quit this app if I am unable to work on of my favorite apps.
Since the last update, I am unable to play. Every puzzle results in the message: sorry there is something wrong with the puzzle. This has been a favorite game with me for years. Please fix it. *UPDATE* This no longer worked after upgrading to iPadOS14 and updating the app. In desperation I deleted the app and reinstalled it. Works fine now. I play this game every day and have been doing so for a few years.
Have had this game on my phone for several years and I really enjoy playing it. Recently I bought an iPad and added Monkey Wrench on it. I now do all my game playing on my iPad. But Monkey Wrench is totally unstable on the iPad. I have to reload it each day, then after a couple of games it freezes up again. Guess I will have to look for a different word search game.
Recently this app has started to override my silent mode again. The first free game I play is silent, then after it runs an ad, the next game has sound, which I don’t want. Sometimes ads don’t load properly and I have a black screen until I restart the ap. The sound thing has been a persistent problem but the ad crashes are new. Some ads don’t actually conclude at all, just sit there until I restart the ap. This is all making it less and less worth playing the game.
One thing I don’t like about this game and all other Blue Ox games is that in order to stop ads, you have to pay monthly. All my other daily games allowed me to pay a one time charge, usually around $1.99. Also, I keep getting blank screens that never come up with an ad. I have to go out of the game and restart for the ad to work. This is happening regularly not only with this game but 7 Little Words, which is also a Blue Ox game.
I recently had a glitch in which the app would crash when I tried to open a newly purchased pack of puzzles. I emailed support and they worked for a couple days to try to fix it. In the end, they weren’t able to, but gifted me 5 packs for my trouble. I was impressed by how quickly they replied to my emails and how they handled the situation.
Love this game. Been playing a long time. However since the last update the game is unstable. Daily puzzle Freezing and automatically opening the bonus puzzle. You can play the bonus puzzle but not the daily unless you repeatedly close the app and reopen it but that doesn’t always work. Same goes for Monkey Wrench Seems others are having same issue. PLEASE FIX
A friend referred this to me years ago. It’s part of my morning routine each and every day. Quick but challenging crossword puzzle that gets my mind going for the day. Actually learned a lot of trivia through playing. Have referred many friends and family and those that have played are hooked daily as well. Can finish a puzzle in 5-10 min. Perfect!
It makes for fairly interesting game play,But the obscure categories I get sometimes really make me want to delete it. Right now I’m playing a game with the categories “formula 1 racers” and “famous economists”. For the most part you can use logic and common knowledge to figure out the words; but how are we supposed to figure out which words are supposed to be peoples names and what names there are when there are so many diverse ones out there? It really takes away from the enjoyment of the game.
Have been playing for years and use the hard level. But I take it a step further and try and figure out the entire puzzle without looking at the categories, unless I am completely stumped. But what frosts me is the lack of new puzzle packs. I haven't tracked but I would guess about one every 13 weeks or about 4 times a year. Gets old playing the same puzzles over and over. Even a new pack once a month would bring 5 stars.
I have been a long time player of seven little words! And I saw monkey wrench is similar! I am blind trying to play this game using voiceover! Like I play Larry kings word search and one thing that they have done is label the letter tiles and the voiceover user taps the beginning letter and it makes an auditory clicking sound then they tap the end letter and it makes a chiming sound! Then the word disappears from the list! I have tried to play all of your games as a voiceover user and seven little words is nicely done!
I have been playing this game every day since the app was available. Love it. I have no problems with crashing, bugs, ads etc. Please don't discontinue the app. I would even pay a small one time fee to continue playing.....and that is saying a lot since I rarely find the need to purchase an app.
My two sons who are 19 and 23 will grab my iPad when it's unlocked and immediately go to Monkey Wrench. They absolutely love the game and so do I and it is a great way to spend some fun time with them love the game keep doing what your doing. I have purchased 950 puzzles and we have 140 left to go before I will have to buy more. But it is money well spent for the time I get with kids.
*** UPDATE*** Developer made it right by providing me with different folders that do work. Love this game. Loved this game so I bought a 6 month of puzzles and have never been able to access them. When I click on it it takes me completely out of the app. When I click on support for the app same thing. Don’t lose your money too.
Play this every day. Only wish there were more puzzles per day available or the ability to access a large group of puzzles. There used to be another Monkey Wrench icon that was blue that had numerous puzzles available but I guess you stopped supporting it because it disappeared some time ago. Keep up the great work. This game is awesome.
Have played for years and love Monkey Wrench, but for the last two weeks, the page gets stuck on an ad (FanDuel or a white page ) and can’t get things to close, move on, or play. I have to turn off my phone and restart to move on. Suggestions?
I’ve been addicted to Monkey Wrench for a long time but I’m seriously considering deleting it from my apps. The reason? The answers to too many of the clues are business names, which amounts to mere advertising. For example, answers to today’s puzzle included steak houses, athletic wear companies and cracker manufacturers. I gotta say: the thrill is gone!
I love the challenge of playing without looking at categories, finding possible words tillI get it right. After each game, the confirmation screen with the monkey and whirling wrench was freezing, but after I mentioned it, the issue was fixed, perhaps by an update I hadn’t installed earlier. It’s really a fun challenge - try it!
I’ve been played by this game for many months without issue. It is at its basis a good game exploring many subjects. However the game is constantly crashing now. I can run it once in a day and afterwards it fails to launch. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled, but problem persists. Running latest iOS- 11.1. Please fix!
UPDATE - the ads were removed! Thank you for the quick response! What’s up with the ads when you open the daily game?!? Twice, I’ve tapped the ad, because it popped up at the time I was expecting to select my level. I will remember tomorrow! Do you really need to sell ads that I won’t even look at to begin with?
Loud 30 second Ads every time I click to start or end the daily game or bonus game is becoming very annoying. Especially since there is no way to control the volume without silencing my phone. I realize it’s a money-making device for the developer, but show your loyal customers some respect. I’ve paid my dues! Bye bye!
Recent update has changed text color to white......why? Very hard to see. Please change back to black. Only complaint is that I would like the hard mode to be more difficult. Or maybe add another tier of difficulty somehow? As it is, I fly through the levels for the most part. Can never go wrong with Blue Ox games.
I enjoy the format of this game very much. I even sprang for the subscription. But I see the same categories over and over with the same answers every time. It’s getting stale. There have been more than 5 or 6 books set in Europe, guys. It has gotten so that I don’t even have to look at the clues anymore. I can just look through the letters and find the same old answers every time.
After I feed my dogs, I grab a cup of tea and immediately sit down to your game! I can’t believe it’s being discontinued. I’m a s/c disabled vet and even my doctors have had to admit, your game has helped immeasurably in my therapy and recovery (TBI). Never a problem, or bug or crashing. Perhaps people didn’t rate it but I can’t believe not enough “liked” it.
You get 25 free puzzles to start which on normal level takes a couple of hours at worst to complete. You can also play it on easy and hard. There is a daily free game and another if you watch an advert. After that any other games you want to play you have to buy. Based on the fact it doesn’t take long to complete it in the long run this app will cost a lot of money. Compare this to say Wordscape for example where there’s 5200 games, apart from paying $2 to remove the ads, all the games are free. I will be deleting Monkey immediately.
I paid for the ad free version a while back, and enjoyed the challenge of finding answers and learning new words or interesting people I had never heard of. Then, the ads showed up and when I questioned why after each daily challenge an ad was forced upon me, they said “the paid version now comes with ads”. Well, that was obvious-it would get five stars if they had not started ads AND given a non answer.
Previously 5 stars for a fun game I play every day. Just changed devices from a 7 plus (where I could see the full puzzle and clues) to an X where (despite having a larger screen), I’d have to scroll or use the (buried) option for small hexes. The black bars at the top and bottom of my screen aren’t very pleasant. Please update to support the 6 month old flagship phone.
Every morning, rain or shine, I work the Monkey Wrench without fail. Instead of reading negative comments or stories which are quite depressing, I love to work on this. When I have completed the challenge, I feel great; thus putting me in a good mood to start the day. The daily newspaper had just the opposite effect on me.
This app is unreliable In that many times I have had blank screens come up and it will not refresh. Sometimes for several days in a row! Worst of all when you delete it and reinstall, you LOSE the hints you have paid for!!!!
I always play this but it freezes up and I have to delete and download it again. Very annoying. This keeps happening and I have to start over. I am tired of this happening so I am giving up until this problem is corrected.
Love this game! But I’m writing to say that one of the answers in today’s game, May 1, 2021 was incorrect. Category “World Series Winners” you have Milwaukee Braves as the answer when in fact it should be “Milwaukee Brewers”! Other than that I think this is by far one of the best apps out there! Keep up the great work!
Sometimes you have to think a little harder, sometimes it takes one minute to complete. I think the average person will always be able to solve it. There’s a challenge for you!
Over the past few weeks I’ve had to delete this app & reinstall it because the app becomes frozen & will not work no matter what else I do. This is truly annoying because I love this app & use it every day.
This was my favorite online game until the last update. Now it does nothing but freeze. I can shut off my phone and reset it, but who the heck wants to do that after every game??? I loved this game. For years. I am bummed.

I love playing this game. I am often surprised by the answers. However, it jammed on me the other day so I had to delete the icon and re-install. I used to be able to play limitless games but now only get four a day. Wish I could go back. Jackie
To be more specific, I get that ads pay for the app but trying to close some of them after they’re over is a frustrating, sometimes impossible task! I’ve has to delete and reload the app to finally get out of an app and back to the game. I’m getting tired of it and may soon just delete permanently.
I’ve enjoyed playing this game for years. If you put the setting on hard it can get pretty challenging, yet won’t stress you out. I also love the fact that it doesn’t bombard you with adds the way most games are doing these days.
