I was a little skeptical about this at first since I wasn’t sure the fantasy sports concept would translate to music. I was dead wrong. I’ve played music league a few times now and had a blast with old friends who live in several different states. We all do our best to stay in touch, but Music League has this amazing power to get old friends back in touch and for current friends to stay in touch. The music aspect is amazing also since you hear some songs you’ve never heard or haven’t heard in a long time, but my biggest takeaway is how Music League builds relationships between old friends or has the potential to create new friends.
Love love love this app and concept, I’ve had a blast playing it with my friends and it’s exposed me to a ton of new artists and music. I understand the developer’s right to earn money off their product, especially when they continue to have to provide support and infrastructure for running people’s leagues. But my GOD the ads on this app are incredibly annoying. I have no idea how much control they exert over which ads appear, but it feels like they’ve gone out of their way to pick extremely long and obnoxious ads to push people towards their subscription tier. My suggestion to the devs: please dial down both the length and frequency of your ads, as in their current form they really hamper the experience. And if possible, please offer a single-payment ad-free option in addition to the option to pay a subscription. I have enough subscriptions in my life right now and adding another one here is not an option.
This is the greatest app on my phone. It is everything a music geek could ask for: It lets you compete with friends over taste, it helps you find great new music, and you can spend lots of time playing in it or you can pop in and out without losing the fun. Most importantly, I basically traded in all the time I spent on social media for this instead. There are a few things that could make it perfect: 1. Fix the scheduling glitches. Have lost a couple rounds because of that 2. Make it possible to download a .csv or .xls report of the round-by-round results 3. Add individual chats so you can invite individual people to new leagues (vs telling the whole group) 4. Make it possible to have downvotes be optional - I.e., not mandatory, so if you don’t want to downvote, you don’t have to 5. Improve link sharing in chat 6. Add filters to the entire league and/or individual rounds so you can set parameters like “<500k monthly listeners”. This would prevent people from sneaking in guaranteed winners like RATM or GNR But even still, awesome app - best one on my phone!
I absolutely love this product. It’s an incredibly fun and creative way to share music with friends or strangers. I can’t stop telling everyone I know about it, and the weekly playlists with my friends have become a highlight of my week. The app is a little buggy sometimes when entering comments or votes but it always gets through. Looking forward to improvements as they scale, especially in new features. Would love to see a group feature introduced that can house multiple leagues, and robust analytics on who’s voting for you across rounds, who picks the most diverse selections, etc.
I’ve played several rounds of Music League before it was an app, and it’s a real highlight of my life. I’ve been exposed to new artists, enjoyed sharing my favorite songs, been nostalgic about songs from my life, and connected with old friends across the country. Our group even had a party for one of our final rounds and people flew from all over to meet In Chicago to celebrate. I came from California, but we also had friends from Wisconsin, Brooklyn, Chicago… We made t-shirts for everyone. We played all the playlists at the party. Nathan, if you’re reading this - thank for creating this. It’s been a real joy.
With mechanics that are well-conceived and option to alter them to your whim, this app is an amazing way to share music among friends. It’s a game that has taken my friend group by storm. I can’t recommend it highly enough! If you want something more competitive, alter the rules to do that. If you want something chill, you can do that too. It’s modularity is one of its greatest strengths, and the base fundamental mechanics are just great for encouraging you to engage with lots of good tunes. Love it.
I am really enjoying this game, despite not doing very well in my league. Some recommended changes: 1) standardize points for each round (first place gets 5 pts or something) rather than basing season points on total song rankings; 2) add an element where you get extra points for guessing who added what song; 3) negative points for last to submit their songs and/or vote
Great concept but there will be full screen minute long ads that pause the music I'm currently listening to just to navigate anywhere in the app. If I'm having to watch an ad longer than 15 seconds, I should be able to navigate throughout the app without encountering another ad for the next 10 minutes. But instead you spend more time waiting for the ads to close than you do doing anything else in the app. Devs - PLEASE be more mindful of how intrusive and annoying these are to users and do something to not drive away users.
I never go out of my way to review anything but I was invited to a Music League group at work and it has been so much fun. I was in kind of a music slump for years, just listening to my old favorites, lazy about seeking out new music. This gives you the nudge you need to start digging a little deeper. Best thing though is that you discover new music from complete strangers. I love it
The app used to be a convenient and fun way to keep up with a great game, but the LOUD, long video ads may make me delete the app. Even if my sound is off, these stupid ads come in at full blast when I just want to check standings. They used to have silent ads, which was fine, especially given that this is a music game. As it sits, I have a permanent grudge against any of the scammy games promoted at full volume and am probably going to delete this app if Music League doesn't return to reasonable ads. I'm not rewarding you for making the free version worse by subscribing. I will just delete the app.
Conceptually, it's a brilliant idea! My friends and I have a great time using it, and we all find new music constantly. However, the app design is clunky and outdated. To make matters worse, there are extremely frequent adds that often last for 45+ seconds, making it close to impossible to use the app at times unless one has a surplus of patients. I see so much potential but a major overhaul is needed before this app could breakthrough to the mainstream.
This is Solid!!! Playing it with a group of friends is funner! We play with the same 6 people as we do in fantasy football. We created a group text chat on our phones and send massages back and forth all day about it. If an internal chat could be created into the app, that would be solid. But our group text chat works great!
This is a great way to learn more about your coworkers without using forced fun. No one wants to join a 4pm virtual happy hour to get to know your colleagues. This app allows you to giggle together without looking at each other awkwardly on a computer. Also, healthy competition is great for a team. It’s like apples to apples for music.
Ads have become unbearable. I saw the developer post on another comment that they’re trying to limit it to “as few as possible”. That is clearly not the case. Every time you click into a round it shows a 5-10 second ad. Can you make banner ads that follow us through the app but don’t impede our experience instead? Otherwise, love the game. Allows for creativity with themes and songs that fit the themes.
For the most part, I love using this app to explore new music with my friends. If there was one update that would be really nice, I wish they’d let you update the pace once you’ve set up a league, so be really careful when selecting that option! In order to not lose league progress I now have to fudge all the dates manually every single time a new round comes up
If you love music and are a little competitive, this is the perfect app for you. My group of friends and I are addicted. We’re getting to know each other and our music tastes better. Also finding a lot of new music along the way. Cannot recommend enough.
This has been a fun way for me and my friends to introduce and discover new music, and start new conversations the competition aspect is really secondary to me, although sometimes can help propel further discussion. It’s really another fun way to stay connected to your friends or family.
I appreciate the time the artists spent on dressing the app up but PLEASE lose the custom clip art. It’s unfocused, distracting to look at, gives the app an immature feel, and basically just not necessary for use of the app. Go back to monochrome images. Easier on the eyes. The app is overall good, but losing the art or changing the design could make navigation feel easier. The chat feature feels like it could be developed more. Everything in the chat is so small. Too small.
It’s such a fun way to connect with friends or a strangers for that matter. You can share your favorite songs, collectively build playlists, and hear music you might have never been exposed to otherwise. Love this app and community.
I like this app. Really creative idea. Well done. A social media element would kick it up a notch, like a friends list of sorts. That way I can have the option to invite certain friends, my friends list, or open to all users. And swap between a friends feed and all users feed. I hope this app catches on like I think it will. It’s a really fun way to find new music.
It’s astounding just how many ads are in this app. Every time you want to change pages, you’re forced to watch a video ad. And considering how much navigation there is in the app, that’s a ton of ads. I’ve played a good number of free to play games that flood you with ads less than this app does. If you want to do ads in your free app that’s fine but use banners or something. The app is completely unusable. My other review disappeared for some reason so I’m writing again.
I saw a Instagram Reel promoting this app and was really excited to play it with my friends but the time delay between selecting songs and voting is very annoying especially between rounds. We have to wait 30 minutes when we would like to just vote right after the final song is input. I understand the structure for online play but, for private leagues I would like more control. I would love to keep playing if this was changed.
Love playing music league with my friends. This is a great concept and the developers deserve a 5 star review in that regard! The ads they showcase on this app are sadly so bad I ended up deleting it and just use the browser version instead. To open just about anything requires a minute(s) long ad and theres not even an ability to skip! The worst ad policy I’ve ever seen in an app and I don’t say that lightly. Truly would just recommend using the browser version instead

I love music league, and I’m enjoying it very much, but the app really gets on my nerves sometimes mostly due to the highly aggressive ads that force full views. Also frequently, the ads failed to load and the app forces you to keep trying before it will let you look at the desired content. Very frustrating.
We use Music League with friends, family, even coworkers. After playing a year, I’ve discovered dozens of new (to me) artists and added 100+ songs to my playlists. I wish ML had features to copy songs directly to other playlists, especially Apple. General Apple Music integration is also a missing feature.
I love this game! Stumbled on it through and IG post and thought I’d give it a shot, invited some friends, and now I’m in there leagues! This is a really great way to connect with your friends and share music. The playlists are super fun to listen to, the voting can be brutal but fun, and the banter between friends in the rounds is great.
Overall a fine product and great idea, but save yourself the time and use the website instead of the app. The ads are super long and don’t function well when you click so they take you out of the app all the time. It’s annoying and really breaks the experience of using the app at all.
Downloaded this maybe 2-3 weeks ago, loved it. And I understand they need some ad revenue but since I started receiving ads 24 hours ago I can’t even navigate the app without sitting through a 60 second ad. Checking the Standings in multiple leagues? Prepare to waste 5 minutes of seeing the same shovelware trash game ad. I’m hoping they scale back and improve- the monthly cost is about a $1 too high- if not, I’ll just delete and move on.
My daughter and her friends have been doing this and she started a league with family and friends. It is a lot of fun and the exposure to different music genres really engaged all. We are a multigenerational team so it has been hilarious and competitive.
This could be really fun. Unfortunately just testing it out involves fullscreen unskipable adverts with video and audio. I was only 3 taps into the app when I got my first one. This is the kind of app that a subscription doesn’t seem so bad for since it seems like it requires constant effort from the devs, but I’d like to get a feel for it for maybe a week before I’m hit over the head with disruptive advertising. Hard pass.
Love the app, but it would be great if you could have a different username/picture in different leagues. I started a league with some internet friends and don’t really want to show my real identity, but I also have a group with my real life friends and I don’t want to be the only one with a fake name.
Please add the ability to reorder rounds. Also, if a round is completed it no longer needs to be bound by the end date. Allow me to make the next round submission before the day of the previous rounds voting ending if everyone has already voted and the round is over. The chat box needs a reply feature. Also, Apple Music support and a dark mode would be greatly appreciated.
Loving this as another way to keep in touch with long distance friends! One product request…the ability to earn points by correctly guessing who submitted which song! That’s half the fun tbh

My friends and I are obsessed with this game. There’s a few minor bugs here and there, but it doesn’t matter. The game itself has brought us so much joy and connection. Hope this game never goes away.
Hi, Could a feature be added where you save or add public leagues, but not join them? Some of them have banger playlists and I don’t necessarily want to participate in the leagues but I enjoy listening to the playlists. I feel like this would be a nice addition and a cool way to find new music (: thanks! -V
I used to love this app, it was loads of fun and ran smoothly. Recently they added ads, and not only are they intrusive and obnoxious on their own, but the update seems to have introduced all kinds of bugs as well. It’s been a clunky and ad-ridden experience since then. Pretty disappointed in the developers. I would have gladly spent a one-time $5 or something rather than deal with all the ads.
This is an amazing app and game! I love that it can be competitive or just fun. I’ve discovered so much new music and many new friends from playing, and all the added features in the app make game play even better!
let us upload custom pictures for our league banners - or at the very least let us pick from the automatically used ones i looooove this app so much, i got all my friends to download it after someone else told me about the app last week. it’s so fun and i love that i’m not only giving song recs to other people but also receiving them too! even if you’re not a big music geek this is still a really enjoyable game (:
Wish there were some way for admins to set the terms for the league via actual filters. That way duplicate submissions could be avoided. It would also nice to see the comments from the submission when voting. There’s been times I may have voted for the song knowing what it meant to the person submitting it.
The introduction of ads has been done so poorly I may have to delete the app. Extremely intrusive full screen unskippable ads that could be anything (blasting music, completely different languages, hidden buttons to close the ad, etc). Simple banner ads could have been programmed in to monetize the app without destroying its functionality.
I’ve had a blast all around getting to play this with friends near and far. It’s also been a really useful tool to introduce music to my friends as well!
This game was so fun when I first started playing a few months ago. Now the ads make it absolutely unplayable. Forced 30 second unskippable videos just to check the standings or voting results in the league is ridiculous. I would pay $2.99 one time fee to get rid of the ads, but I’m not paying $2.99 monthly. I will be deleting this app due to the ads.
The UI is really messy, in order to see past rounds you have to scroll all the way past the upcoming rounds, something you would think users would have quick access too. It works well but the design definitely needs tweaking
I understand the need to make money, but trying to do something as simple as checking the standings will trigger an unskippable 30 second+ ad that also pops up a download page for an app I don’t want. I’ll stick to the website.
Literally can’t click anything without getting an ad
This app was fine until suddenly there were ads popping up every time you so much as click a different tab in the app at all. One every now and then would be fine, but the sheer volume of ads you get just trying to navigate through a league is absolutely ridiculous.
The app was great before they added ads. Now it crashes more than it works and can we please, for the love of all that is holy, finally accept that users hate disruptive advertising. I’d even toss a few bucks out for a non-ad version but it’s not offered.
They have ads which wouldn’t normally be a problem but they’re so buggy that when you press “close” or let the ad finish you can’t get to the next screen, essentially blocking you out from seeing results, etc. The game is fun with friends but it’s a terrible user experience as far as an app can go. Their devs need to do a better job
Music League is a game that lets you share and discover music by competing to determine the best songs for a particular theme! If you want to discover new music, you will. You can share the songs you’re passionate about, and you can decide which of your friends has the best taste in music. You and your friends can play to win, play to reminisce or play to discover new tunes by looking at music in a new way. Music League players will submit a song for each round's "theme". Every round presents a new way to think about your music and a reason to share the songs you love, the songs you always thought deserved more love, or the songs you find that perfectly fit the theme. Sample themes could include: - Best cover song - Beach Songs - Song I learned from TikTok - Best song of 2023 so far - Best song you've seen performed live - Songs to sing in the shower - Instrumentals Gameplay: - Players submit a song that matches a theme - The app will create an anonymous, shuffled Spotify playlist (an Spotify account is required.
