I think it’s a bit silly to have to pay for an app that completes a public service. It certainly costs more than $3 to provide my interaction with staff at the DMV, so why those savings can’t be used to pay for this app, I don’t know. Setting aside that objection, I’ve taken away two stars because of the chatbot interface for this app. There’s no need for this! We’re well into the internet era—just show me my information, let me confirm it, and make it easy to pay. I go online for these tasks to avoid talking with a real person, not to have to imitate it! I took away an additional star because of several bugs I encountered while renewing a registration. If I’m going to pay $3 every time I use this app, it should work better than this. For example, when I flipped over to copy my credit card number from a password manager app, then moved back to it to get additional information, MYNCDMV deleted all the information I had already input. After entering new card info, I was dumped back to a payment screen to confirm... but there was no way to verify how I was paying. Time to check for some bugs, friends...

I think the app can work but every time I try to use it for basic items like register my car or now registering to vote the app bugs out during the steps while you talk to the chat bot. Registering to vote takes a while to bring up a keyboard the first time. Enter license info. Click the ssn second and something takes over the entire screen in the app where you can’t type or see. And you can’t even go back to start over you have to close and open the app. Rebooted phone. Reinstalled app. It’s just always so clunky when it could just be pretty awesome.

I’m actually shocked on some of the reviews I saw. Unless they’ve done some updates to the app after the reviews. I have a company vehicle where the registration expired while it was in the shop waiting for parts. After I had my inspection done, I waited 24 hours, downloaded the app, clicked on vehicle registration and the entire automated system guided me through. I had to pay property tax and for the expired registration but again the automated system on the app guided me through the process. Took 3 minutes and I was done. Now anytime I need to do this again, the app already has my info saved so even less time to complete. Some are complaining about the $3 charge that they add to do the registration on the app. Honestly, by the time I drive to the tag office, DMV and wait in line forever, I think anyone would agree that it’s worth it.

For those people that are always finding something to complain about, get a life! The app WORKS FLAWLESSLY if you know what you’re doing! And for having to pay a $3 fee? That’s a drop in the bucket compared to having to get up and get ready, put wear and tear on your vehicle, spend money on gas, waiting in line for awhile most of the time and figuring all the time you invested doing it all just to get a little sticker for your license plate! NO THANK YOU! I will stay home, set in my comfortable chair with this app in hand and renew my registration in about 2 minutes! Ahhhh the time and money I saved feels really great! So, y’all keep the negativity and complaining going and drive on down and stand in that line and spend that money and wear out your vehicle prematurely and then you won’t need that registration renewed after all!

Like most government attempts at improving performance, this app just adds to the DMVs overall inefficiency. Things were working smoothly until I tried to change my mailing address and got a message that, for reasons unknown, the system could not update the address at the moment. I was given the option to either schedule an appointment, or speak to a representative. I click on the appointment link just to see what that leads to. Turns out, it leads to an expired page. Great: a dead end! I click on the second option to speak to someone. It’s 8 PM on a Sunday and I know very well they’re offices are closed. But I think that maybe, just maybe, the app is offering this option because there is some hotline open after-hours. Of course, that isn’t the case and I’m taken down another dead end. I’d also like to point out that the whole reason I was using the app was because it was after hours and I wanted to avoid the hassle and long wait times of calling (or going in person). But I ended up not able to do anything without either going in person or calling. So if anything, I just added time. And it was time very much wasted

This is my third review of this App. Each has been worse than the prior one. I’m trying to order a Specialty Tag, and everything goes well until you’re requested to enter your Tag Number and the final 5 characters of my Title Number. Those are both on my Registration Card, and I entered them into the App. The App gives you the opportunity to go back through, and just to make sure that the App was reading it correctly, I’ve given up. This App should not be used by by North Carolina! Furthermore, my understanding has been that Apple made sure an App was viable. Maybe that’s not right, but if it is, then Apple should remove the App. I would like to rate minus-5 stars.

I need to renew my registration, which because I was in the hospital for a month waiting to give birth, is late. My baby is still in the NICU so this type of stuff has unfortunately been put on the back burner. Anywho- I’m finally sitting down at the computer to pay this registration after finally having the time to get my vehicle inspected and this robochat thing says: “Hey there. I’m currently down for scheduled maintenance. Please be patient, and I’ll be back to chat Sunday August 11.” So now I have to wait until then to hopefully remember to try this again. Incredibly inconvenient for me personally, and it’s annoying that there is a $3 fee when the old system worked fine and was free. Oh, and it was never “down.” UGH.

Both this app and the website are extremely buggy. Caught in and endless loop of trying to log in between email address, google account, or Facebook account. Multiple “Failed to Fetch” messages encountered on multiple attempts. Reset password link is non functional and any support phone numbers listed are a dead end of pre recorded messages. I guess I eventually got the right combination through the app by authenticating with my google account. I sincerely hope whoever may be reading this does not encounter the same issues I did.

Well done developers!!! I absolutely love the “chat” type feature that lets me update my registration, pay taxes, change my license address. I never write app reviews but I feel compelled because the online process to do these things used to be painful. The app is just awesome!!! I just paid our annual registration in less than 2 minutes for two vehicles.

Noticed my voter registration had an outdated polling location based on my previous address despite sending in my updated voter registration card; couldn’t get through to anyone at the NC Board of Elections hotline, and luckily found this app. The process to verify/update my voter registration using this app was very simple, efficient, and most importantly free. Whether or not the process worked is still up in the air, guess I’ll find out in October 🤞.

First off I don’t know why people are complaining about the 3$ fee, if you have ever done anything dmv online or most payment websites your paying some sort of convenience fee. I will gladly pay 3 to avoid taking time off to go stand in line at the DMV. The bot isn’t even that bad. I guess people don’t like change. I however like the ability to pay all my renewals at once so this worked out great for me thanks

I did the voter registration card while I was renewing my ID. Which took forever to type out. Every time I clicked a party it WHITED OUT the whole screen and wiped my application completely. I redid this four times before just continuing without the voter application. When I tried to do the voter application on it’s own, it did the same thing.. not sure if you promote your application to be in assistance to certain parties, or you just have that bad of coding/support. Either way I’ll be sure to go in for my voter app in person.

I bought a new vehicle a year ago December and it’s not showing on the app for my renewal. Instead, my old vehicle is still showing to be renewed!!! I called the dealership and when they access their side of NCDMV license registration all my information is correct. So this now means I have to go to a tag office and stand in line or call and wait for hours. NCDMV is a joke!!!!! Follow up, I tried again the next day and was able to get in and find my vehicle to register my tag. Happy now, but this App is extremely glitchy!

On an iPhone 14 pro max with everything up to date: every time I try to complete anything like renewal or change of address or voter registration it allows me to get halfway through the process then a blank white screen pops up and nothing ever loads in and you can’t go back or refresh. It’s extremely frustrating and renders the app useless. You have to close out and start over and then it does it on the same step as the last time you tried. Please fix.

I don’t know why some people are finding this app difficult or laborious to use. It literally took me less than 5 minutes to pay my vehicle property tax & renew my registration. It’s very simple & the “robot” is essentially just a guide that pulls up your previous information on DMV records & asks you to confirm or change your address, phone, insurance, etc. Really, it’s taken me longer to wash a single dish. Love it!

Imagine going into the DMV but legit in app form. I’ve been trying to several days to renew my license, I have had patience, I gave it a few days if it was just backed up or application issues. I work a full time job like most people. Being able to renew something online is supposed to be a helpful tool, but if you try to hammer a nail with a hammer made of jello, you get nowhere and that is exactly how this app is. You’d have better luck going in person. I recommend making an appointment and not using this app. Hopefully fixed by the next go round of renewal 🤞🏼

Update: Use the website for voter registration. It actually completes the registration. It is April 4, 2024 it stated that I should have my updated voter information mailed in about two weeks. We’ll see. Nothing like having your online voter registration not working during an election year. Doesn’t matter which party you choose, it freezes on a white screen. At least you can pay your bills. They will always make sure they can take your money.

I did not find the Robo chat very useful. The previous webpage was straightforward and had a good user interface and workflow. Using the chatbot felt disjointed and gave the illusion of being assisted, when you really had no additional assistance available. On top of that, it cost additional money to pay my property taxes. With The previous User interface we were able to print a receipt right there on demand. Now it says it shows up in her profile. More clicks and more navigation to get something I need. Please return to the previous web based user interface. Please.

I’ve had a pretty good experience with this app the last few years, but found a recent bug that’s really annoying. If you go into a page, you can’t get back. The back button in the top left can’t be reached on the newer iPhones, when I tap the ‘<‘ it doesn’t do anything. I have to restart the app and make sure I don’t go too far into any pagination.

It acts like a roboconversation to verify your details one at a time. Must think I’m a moron and can’t display a single page for me to read. It works but seems like a stupid way to do it. I never had problems understanding the older ways in the past. Also got charged extra 3 bucks to pay online, called a convenience fee. They should give me a 3 buck credit for doing the work instead of paying the robot.

I've used this app for three years now owning a car and changing my NC address three times. The app has consistently been buggy, crashing unexpectedly when you get to a certain prompt on updating your voter registration while updating your address, and designed poorly. No improvements in the past three years. The prompts also switch the location of "Yes" and "No" for the "are you a felon?" question, leading to you having to restart the process if you answer incorrectly.

Great app! The chat others complained about is what made it so easy. It’s no different than talking to a person - you just select an answer to their questions instead of speaking them. It took less than a minute and I’ll give you $3 for that any day. Plus it stores everything for next renewal. Love it!

The app works to renew a registration but beware if you have more than one transaction. They collect $3 per transaction but it’s supposed to be paid me fee for multiple transactions. They did not drsign the app to make it easy or obvious to perform multiple transactions under one fee. They will not offer any customer service if you call to complain about multiple $3 fees even though this is contrary to the DMV website. They could easily improve the app to facilitate multiple transactions but they make money by making that nearly impossible. Beware!

I love that this app has all of my saved information and that there is the chat feature to quickly do all of the dmv related things that I need to. It is so fast and easy to use. Registration for cars and renewing licenses from and app. Win win win.

Make sure you all pay your property tax on the vehicle you paid sales taxes on that’s parked on the property that you own that you also must pay property taxes on with your income which was also taxed after your company was taxed for paying you. It’s a good thing we pay all of these taxes and have to pay more for federal ID’s that we are forced to purchase even though we’ve paid the government 5 million times this year. Oh and they’ll also tax you for the federal ID. Isn’t American government great.

This app is quite clever and such a great alternative to traveling to one of the NCDMV offices. Have used it 4-5 times for various registrations, renewals and payments and it works flawlessly. I’ve used hundreds of apps before, but I was compelled to write this first ever review because the UX is so gratifying. Nice work!

Fantastic app that works if so long as you input the correct information! **Be Aware** if you type in a incorrect title number but the correct plate number it will lock you out after multiple attempts! You’ll have to try again at midnight. So happy that I don’t have to wait in line at the DMV!

I went to get a copy of my driving record. I got it but even though I have a newer phone(iPhone 14) I could not access the records via PDF. So they had to mail it to me. Kinda made me upset that they don’t keep there software up to date, but the buy process was very smooth.

I love this app . I use it year after year . Going to get the inspection first and sitting there knowing I can pay for my registration or customize my license plate. Really I don’t like standing in the DMV line wondering why does it take so long . This App is very wonderful. The app gives you a receipt so, don’t worry about getting pulled .

It’s like the state doesn’t want anybody to vote. When it asks for your state your affiliate party, the app crashes and goes blank and you have to restart. The only way I was able to renew my drivers license, was to decline my voting status. Once I renewed my drivers license, I went back in to renew my voting status. and again the app crashed, when it switched over to the affiliate page. i’ve tried several times with no success.

Took me under 3 minutes to renew and pay taxes for 2 cars. Super simple and easy app to use and totally beats having to stand in line for 30+ minutes at a license plate office or waste time with the mail. Also so much more user friendly than the website.

Such a great time saver. No lines and less fines. This app will save you time and money, especially if you have multiple vehicles to register. Will help you keep up with your registration dates. I highly recommend this app!

I see a lot of people complaining about this app. I guess you can’t satisfy everyone. This app is easy to use and it’s worry free. Although you’re not talking to a human... the”bot” gives excellent customer service. This is what I look forward to when I pay taxes. No attitude or ignorance.

I agree with the previous reviewer. The bot is helpful and easy to understand. It guided me step by step through the process in no time flat. Easier than going to the website and faster than going to the local office.

However, it is pretty lame. I loaded it onto my iPad and it wouldn’t rotate so I had to type onto a screen that was sideways. Then, I had to pay an extra $3 to use it. Then, after taking time to try to fill it out when the entire screen and fields were not visible, it rejected my entry and I have to go down to the DMV anyway. Heaven save us from poorly thought out and created apps.

The app worked just fine for me. I couldn’t renew from my iPad or computer for some reason, so this was my only option. Just one more #&$! password to deal with, which I could do without. But the app works and is pretty simple and quick.

Has tons of technical issues and it’s the only way to get anything done through the dmv, and it usually doesn’t work which makes things so frustrating and difficult. It took me over three months and multiple emails back and forth between customer service to pay my registration and I still had to pay the late fees because the app wouldn’t take my payment

This system is much less convenient or reliable than the previous DMV-hosted system. And for that privilege, you have to pay a fee. The chat bot is a stupid interface, clunky and often has trouble. When you hit a snag (about 1/2 the time) you then have to contact the DMV to get the issue resolved (read: long wait times on the phone). Going back to the previous system would be a huge improvement.

The app worked well enough to allow me to setup an account and make a payment to renew my licenses. I’m glad the app made everything quick and convenient.

I have tried to submit my request for vote registration twice, after providing all the information when I select “submit”, the app shows a blank/white screen from where it never recovers. Could anybody look at it? There are no appointments available for the DMV close to my house so I would love to do it through the app, I’m also trying to avoid to submit my request by mail. Thanks.

Why the North Carolina DMV decided to inflict even more aggravation and frustration on the good people of this great state is beyond belief. The previous method of online registration was simple, straight forward, FAST and less expensive. This new method took nearly an hour and a half to set up and I fully expect it will be similarly awful every time I use the cursed thing. I only hope that before I die I am able to meet the bureaucratic fool who made this decision and thank him or her in an appropriate way.

First time I just wanted to renew my license but it wouldn’t let me so I had to go to an actual dmv office to do it. Now this time, I’m trying to order a customized plate but when it verifies my information, it transitions to registering my vehicle which I’ve had for over 2 years. Not really sure how y’all managed to create such a useless app but you’ve done it.

Great way to modernize paying your registration. The people complaining are probably baby boomers who like to gripe and complain about necessary changes. We can’t stay in 1942 using just pen and paper forever, Becky! Learn to adapt, like NC is finally seeming to do. If not, visit the DMV and stick to your antiquated ways.

The last thing you enter on their form before submitting it is your phone number. However, the form will not let you remove the phone number they have entered as the cursor is at the beginning of their example and not the end. It will not let you submit your info without changing the phone number. How does anyone complete this form??

Had to pay properly tax on a new bike but lost the bill. Thought there was no other way but to go to the dreaded DMV office which I wasn’t sure was even open. Had no time for standing in line. Found app, using it was a breeze!

The $3 is an online convenience fee whether you go directly to the NCDMV website or use this app. Yes it costs $3 more but with the costs of gas & time driving and waiting in line its well worth $3!

I’m proud of my state government - you’ve created something that’s easy to use and even trend-forward with AI/Technology. Some private businesses aren’t even this far along. Thank you for investing in this app and doing it correctly.

This app is way too much and over complicates the entire process of paying. I don’t want a conversation with a robot to confirm each detail of my information when it can be displayed in a single page with one confirmation button or the option to change if the listed info is incorrect. Would give less than 1 star if I could. Also why do I need to download an app to pay with my phone?

As so many have stated. Crashes with a white screen when trying to use. I was trying to update my voter registration. Got to where I could choose a party affiliation. White screened. That was that. Had to go online where I think I accomplished my goal. Who knows? No email confirmation. At this stage, don’t really care anymore. No need to change laws to suppress votes, this app will do the job just fine!

I completed my vehicle re-registration and updated my profile address section thinking they would mail it there. They mailed it to an old mailing address that doesn’t have a forward facing view to change and update in the app. Just go through their website. The app doesn’t have the ability to update your mailing address
