All complaints that I previously had about Ooma's iOS app have now been beautifully addressed with the July 31, 2017 update. The app has been optimized for iPad, all aspects of it function perfectly, and several new features have even been added. This is now a truly great app to use. Thank you Ooma. (My former comments about issues now resolved: "I have only had experience with the Ooma app on iPad Pro 9.7 and iOS 10, so it may work better on an iPhone, or on an older version of iOS - but, the app is in need of an update. The volume control does not work, the mute control does not work, and the app's display orientation is only correct when holding an iPad in portrait view. When holding iPad horizontally, in landscape view, Ooma's app remains oriented in the other position. There are a few other quirky things about the app I don't like as well, but if Ooma were to fix these problems, I would consider their app to be good. Until then, at least for iPad and iOS 10, I can only say the app is useable, but difficult.")
I've been waiting for Ooma to add the ability to blacklist numbers from the app since I started using it and am very happy that the function is finally here. But what makes me rate this ones start short of great, is the fact that once you add number to the blacklist, there's no way to remember — say days or a week later — if you blacklisted that number. Where as on the website when you blacklist a number there is a visual cue (a red circle with a line through it) that let's you know that you have successfully added that number to the blacklist. Currently, when you go back to look at at number you may have blacklisted the day before, it still says "Add to Blacklist" as if you never took any action on that number. And if you tap that link, it takes you through the process as if you didn't blacklist it. That made me have go to the website just to double check that it the blacklist was actually applied — which renders the efficiency and convenience of the new feature moot. It can be something like turning the "Add to Blacklist" red or replacing that with the red circle with the line through it (like on the website) to let you know that you were sucessful in blacklisting a number.
I have been a customer for over 10 years and now I am having thoughts of dropping my service. The app has fallen short of being useful anymore. It errors constantly, doesn’t forward many calls and if you decide to reinstall it forces you to sign up for their premier service without any ability to bypass and just log into your account. Customer service has been useless and they send me to their technical service, but you cannot understand them and all they want you to do is reinstall again. I believe that the forcing you to sign up for the premier service each time you install is a violation of some type of law and I plan on writing letters to several organizations so that future customers are not dinged with their horrible tactics. The app has not even been updated decently for a long time. They just fixed it enough to work on the current iOS, but no fixing the large bugs that are in the app. Being a VOIP they could offer texting, but they refuse to add it in. So even though it has saved me lots of money over a standard phone line, I am going to use other portable numbers more often and maybe just quit using this service.
I happened to see this app listed on the Ooma site and d/led it. I love my Ooma Telo with handset but I have been unable to get rid of the horrible lag to use the phone to talk or even to listen to garbled messages. I have spent time with Ooma support to try and resolve issues but their suggestions haven’t eliminated the garbled mess. I have kept Ooma because I can use either of the two phone numbers for online sign ups so my cell phone does not constantly ring with spam all day. I keep my Ooma Telo on “Do Not Disturb” so it can only receive voicemails if someone leaves one and doesn’t ring constantly during the day. The cell phone app can be set up to either receive or send out calls or can be set for both. I tried calling a few numbers and found the clarity of using the app on my cell phone is all that I wished my Telo handset could have been all these years.I am very happy to use this app since it is finally helping to give me my “monies” worth to “USE” Ooma. Great job!!!!
after years of having Ooma as my main phone line, I love that now I can finally get calls on my cell phone. I live in Australia but have a US phone number and it makes it so easy for me to contact friends and family overseas for very little cost. I appreciate not having to be home to call the states. It has really added a new element to the convenience to it. The app probably isn't very helpful if you don't have a paid in my account however, in my case I do. I am having 2 issues though, I live in Australia but I have a US phone number through Ooma and even though I put my phone on do not disturb when I go to sleep at night the Ooma calls still come through loud and clear waking me up at night, need to figure out a way to change those settings. The other thing that is problematic, when I’m on my cell phone app and I arrive home, call disconnects. So that’s a bit of a bummer sometimes, but overall I love that I can call with Emma from my cell phone now! especially for our situation. For most people though I don’t know how useful it would be.
Ooma has been a great home phone service. We have been with them since the beginning and although there were some issues (as there are with any new app) we have always had great service no matter what the issue. This latest update has been great. I can now blacklist straight from the app, and I can receive and make calls without actually using my phone. I have the app on all my devices and I must say answering and making calls from my iPad is such a convenient way to stay on the iPad where I may have been looking for a product or company and make the calls while still being able to keep the search engine open to discuss anything while hands free from a phone call. FIVE STARS + FOR OOMA.
Call quality is generally good, but some WiFi networks in public places will not support VoIP. The biggest con I have found is that the app will mute the audio even when you have the phone in “silent mode” (flipped the switch on the side of the phone). I record streaming audio through the earphone jack, and even though I have notifications disabled for the app, and the silent switch ON, the app will still MUTE the audio while a call would be ringing, ruining my recording. It also bugs me about notifications being turned off, every time I open the app. When an incoming call is received in silent mode, the app should only VIBRATE the phone, NOT MUTE THE AUDIO! Please fix this! Also, even after the cutoff date for Caller ID verification, I am still receiving 3-ring calls from fraudsters! OOMA should have fixed this by now, and appears to be in violation of the new FCC standards in NOT blocking all spam/fraud calls.
Ooma says an update was done about 2 weeks ago. Now I can’t call out from the app
Everything was working fine until about two weeks ago, beginning of May end of April 2022. Since then I’ve been unable to make outbound calls using the app. I’ve called customer support twice and it’s been escalated to a higher level of service and so far no one can fix the problem. Perhaps it’s a software programming issue on this particular version of the app. But it’s extremely frustrating to not be able to call out. When I try to return a call that’s inbound, using the Ooma Bridge, I get a busy signal on the other side. No one has busy signals anymore and when I tested it to make sure by calling a number I know is not busy, I still get a busy signal. So there’s clearly a problem with the app. This is very frustrating and I hope Ooma can do something quickly to fix it. Paying for services one is not getting is not a good deal. When it’s working it’s great.
I signed up for Ooma mainly for the ability to make international calls at a great rate. My spouse is out of the country, and we rely on phone service to keep in touch, both when I am at home and through an app when I am out and about. After ordering the service I set up my account and began using the app right away. It connected quickly, and sound quality was amazing. Within a few days the app service deteriorated quickly, first taking more than a minute to connect calls, then later dropping the ringing calls after 8-12 seconds. After numerous calls to tech support I was told by the technicians and developers that it is a known issue with no date for an anticipated resolution in sight. Excuse me, What?!? It has been almost a month and I am forced to use a competitor’s app while at work (most of my day) at a huge cost. This is not what I signed up for AT ALL. Fix your app, please!
I’ve been using the phone service for about a year but only recently started using the app. I was looking forward a way to provide developer feedback- seems like there should be an easier way than writing a review but it doesn’t appear there is. When I block a caller, there are options to label the type of call- robocall, collection agency, personal, etc. it would be great if they could add one called fraud or something similar. I’ve been getting those calls lately where they are going to send me to jail if I don’t call back and give them my SS or bank account number. Would be great to label those as fraud or scams when I block them.
I love this app and Ooma in general. First, Ooma doesn’t cost me anything (I pay $5 a month, however, for Premium service). Second, I get calls sent to my cell + rings at the base. Third I get a transcript of my calls on my phone. Fourth there are a lot of other features that make it great for my business. You can block calls, mask your number (if you wanted to do such a thing which I don’t but others might), has a contact list, a special ring, conference calling, texting, email and text alerts, spam blocking, on and on. I couldn’t be more pleased with something that is practically free. I don’t know how the crap they do it but I’m glad I discovered them!
I’ve been using Ooma for the better part of 6 years+. The app is especially great when traveling outside the country. That’s because I can get data only SIM cards for my cell phone (cheaper than voice+data) and just use the Ooma app to make and receive calls (which uses data instead of voice minutes). Even better is with T-Mobile they give free texting and slow 2G data which is fine for making calls through Ooma. Ooma is basically free and T-Mobile data roaming is free which makes keeping in touch internationally really affordable (like in FREE)! Voice quality is great too!
I have been using OOMA for many, many years as I live abroad. Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has WhatsApp. This is also great to make business calls to the US. It’s super cheap and super affordable. I only have issues if my internet connection is acting up and when that happens I switch to data. Disclaimer: The above opinion is my own. I have not been paid or otherwise compensated in any way by any entity including OOMA. If the service starts to decline, I will be back to talk about them. I’m going 7 years strong! I’ve been using Ooma since 2017 and it’s still the best!!! No complaints here.
I switched from another online service because they kept increasing their price. I didn’t feel that their service was good enough to continue. My brother bought us this unit and I set it up. We have had no issues for over 2 years now. The call quality has always been excellent and easy to use. The one thing I would love is a way to block spam numbers or block known numbers. I believe it is available for premium but I don’t want to spend that much extra $ for something I feel should be included already.
I’ve had the Ooma app on my iPhone X for at least 3 years and it always works well for what I use it for, system settings and call logs. It extremely rare that I use it to make or receive calls. Today, we were expecting an incoming call and I needed to make two separate outgoing calls, so I decided to make the outgoing calls on the Ooma Home Phone app. I was connected to my home Wi-Fi, placed the call and heard the first ring of the number I called, then no more audio. The call was still connected as I could see the timer running on the screen. The audio never came back on so I disconnected the call. Without closing the app, I dialed the same number again and it worked fine. About an hour later, I made a call to a different number and the exact same issue occurred. I dialed again and everything was fine. I am using app version 8.3 and iOS version 15.6.1. Developers take note of this please? Other than the above mentioned outgoing call oddity, the app works well. Thank you.
Please bring back old version of call blocking. With the prior version you could see if the number was blocked from the main screen. Now you need to go to the next screen to see if was blocked or not. Prior version you could block a number in one easy swipe. This version takes a couple of steps to do. Visually it is awful. This is a fine example of don't mess with what works. Rarely do I seriously regret updating apps, but this unfortunately is one of those times. If you haven't updated yet, don't. Bottom line is this new version is cumbersome and everything takes an additional step or more to complete. How did this even pass QC? Bring back the prior version and test this joke of an app in house before release.
Please allow us to revert to the previous version. This version is not logging my calls anymore. And when it does, it just shows the current time and date for every call made and received every time I open the App. So when I have a missed call now, it’s not even showing the call in the history at all. When the first update hit two weeks ago, it was logging my calls, it just wasn’t keeping the correct date and time on them. Now it’s not logging anything at all. And yes, I deleted and reinstalled the App and it’s still not working. Please go back to version 8. This is causing me to miss work calls and not even know who called or when.
After buying the hardware I’m only paying local taxes for phone service at home. After using it at home for a while I decided to get it for my business too. For $10/month for their premier tier service, I get so many useful features, the smartphone app being the best. I’m not too happy about getting error messages about poor network quality every single time I use the mobile app for a call, but it works. I don’t have poor network quality by the way. It’s 50/50Mb/s fiber internet with the iPhone on WiFi.
People think that WhatsApp or Skype are the only ways to do phone calls .... if you want a full-service landline and number that you can receive calls on your smart phone you should really consider OOMA.... I have use their services for over five years after having switched from Vonage and the only complaint I have is sometimes if the data speed is not fast enough cars can get choppy on occasion... other than that the call sound like they’re in HD....
Good service, works pretty well with voiceover for blind users with a few bugs
This app works pretty well. There are two areas of improvement that would make it even better. The first is when you are asked to rate a call, VO does not read which star you have selected. There are 1 to 5 s stars to choose from, and you have no way to know which star you hit. So i’ve. Rated calls wrong more than once. The second thing that Would be helpful is to integrate the dial pad of iOS’s native dialer into Ooma. There is a bug in the contacts when flicking by heading its a bit jumpy with VO, but this is not a deal breaker, but just needs to be fixed.
This is home phone, it says so right in the name. But it craps up your iPhone call logs and contacts. Some settings don't have a clear meaning. Caller ID doesn't show on app ring (it only shows the number). Can't block names with punctuation, but that's what caller id shows. Can't block from voicemail. Doesn't support multiple people in household. Mostly just says "something went wrong". Can't manage subscription online, requires a phone call. -- I used nomorobo for years successfully, but the ooma implementation seems to miss everything. -- Have to keep the mobile app, though, because the website doesn't show calls that don't ring, a call to support told me that is intended behavior.
Ooma is a great phone system! Very easy to use and install with great customer service if needed. Saves us so much money and the app is extremely easy to use and adds many wonderful features. When we travel around the world we can make calls as if we were on our home phone if we have Wi-Fi connection. These calls are free if they would be free for my home phone! Plus we get our voicemail around the world and calls if there’s Wi-Fi available especially.
Recently (within the last year) we were with Vonage and our promo price was ending. I attempted to reach out to them and lower the bill to remain with them. I was on an unlimited plan. The only price reduction had a limited number of outgoing minutes. For a customer who uses their landline more than their cellular phone, this was a huge slap in the face. Ooma has been good to me and with COVID they have been very flexible and keep their service affordable even when you have the deluxe plan! Thank you Ooma!!!
The Good: It’s cheaper than regular phone service. The Bad: They audio quality is terrible. The reliability and uptime is problematic and unreliable. The Ugly: The audio quality. You have to be 1 foot from the base to hear clearly with their devices. The Summary: I personally had a TERRIBLE experience with this service, their devices and their customer service. My identity was stolen and I admittedly failed to update autopay so.. even though Ooma has a free service they opted to RELEASE my phone number that I’ve had for decades WITHOUT notification. I was told they “left me phone messages” ON THE PHONE NUMBER THAT WASNT WORKING. I was also told they left me emails but that’s also not true I have a bunch of advertising emails from them but no billing issue notifications. When I realized the autopay was set to the old credit card I attempted to update but my account had been deleted. Moving to the free service would have made more sense. All in all… I cannot recommend even their free service as it is more of an inconvenience than anything.
I’ve used this app for 3 years or so, and it has steadily improved. You can make calls as if it was from your home phone (Ooma), which is really nice. We have two Ooma Telos, as we have two households (my wife works out of state part of the year). It’s great to be able to make calls from the local number at either location. I only wish it was easier to switch between accounts instead of logging out and logging in. Great work you guys!
Don't delay. Get your own Ooma system asap and start saving money. The voice quality is terrific. Best is the call blocking and screening, the number of scam and robo calls has almost stopped. Being able to filter on a name instead of a number gets rid of companies that use multiple fake numbers. I wish I had purchased this year's ago. ~$6 on taxes is much better than the $45 paid to the phone company every month!
I’ve been a loyal Ooma user for several years. I wasn’t sure how well the app would work. I was pleasantly surprised how well it works. Forwarding calls to my iphone 8 works flawlessly and the calls are crystal clear. If I cant call in an area with bad cell reception I can still make calls on wifi from anywhere. This is a great ip phone solution and great tech support. I wonder if i can use a secondary ooma number with chat apps like whatsapp or line. Have to try that next.. :).
Much improved and love that i can readily change setting to receive incoming calls. Blacklisting is a sinch. Had had this service for about 10 years, used the app and was no bueno. Am impressed with apps improved call quality and features. Will likely upgrade my home device (as it is old and likes to echo). Cant give it up as my home number is my “give out” number.(the number i give to businesses then block)
I can’t access the app anymore. Upon opening the app a screen pops up stating my credentials are wrong and reloads over and over and over again. I have to force quit the app to get it stop. After I do that I’m able to access the reset password process which works fine. But then when I get back to the app to try my new password it tells me I’ve tried too many times and have been locked out. I didn’t try to many times. Only once or twice at most. The app is automatically trying on its own over and over again! It’s a fatal glitch for me since my telo broke and I can only use Iona through the app right now
The user interface for voicemail doesn’t tell me how long the voicemail is any longer on the voicemail list. I have to now tap deeper into the voicemail. Hey, 90% the voicemail I receive is 1 second long. I know I just need to delete that with as few clicks as possible, not more. If anything, put more information about the voicemail on the voicemail list. Additionally, when using the UI to view the recent calls that have been made, most of the time if I tap the “i” circle for information, it dials the number. I don’t want to call the number, just get information on it. It didn’t used to do that.
Switching from AT&T to Ooma was the best deciding and now it’s officially my home phone service. The app is convenient to use because when someone leaves a voicemail, I’m able to open up the app and check it using my phone instead of in the past having to log in from the computer. Everything in the app is laid out in a simple format so if you aren’t that great with technology, you’ll still be able to function through the app.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the app. It’s a great way to make quick changes to your account when you’ve already left on a trip or something. Also, It’s better than call forwarding because when the app rings you know what number people are calling to reach you. That and it’s also nice to be able to call out from your own number using your data plan while you’re away.
Really good for those who still like to have a home based telephone. I’ll use this number whenever I’m filling out applications, or whenever the requirement is to have a phone number. It ends up being my spam catchall! When I sell some thing I use this phone number and turn on the app for incoming phone calls. By doing this, I don’t have to give out my cell phone and I receive far less spam on my cell phone!
After last update, outgoing calls only work when connected to WI FI. If the device is on cellular network, outgoing calls do not work. Tested on 4 separate devices (all running IOS) and different network providers (Verizon, T Mobile and ATT). All devices act the same when on cellular network( not connected to WIFI), can not make outgoing calls. Please fix Update: developer quickly responded and fixed issue. Thank you!!
Great edition if you have an Ooma. The box does not have to be online for the App to work. For example, my Ooma box is sitting in storage in the States while I am in Europe using a cheap SIM card to make free calls back home. (Of course one must pay extra to receive calls, but that is a monthly charge not per charge.) Just wish they would add texting ability.
I have Ooma as my only home phone service and it works flawlessly. I only use the app occasionally, but it has always worked when I try it. Your experience is based mostly on the quality of the internet you are using. For me, it is indistinguishable from a normal landline call. I've had it for years now. No complaints at all!
I love Ooma, the voip line and telo are great but the app doesn’t work good and has never been without bugs. Lately my phone will ring through the app and when I hit answer, it says connecting, then it fails, says some time of server error. If I can’t answer calls through the app then it’s not worth it to me. The app never refreshes to tell me I have a voicemail, when ai open the app it’ll give me that server error again and that’s usually a sign there’s a voicemail for me but I have to do a manual refresh to hear it. I hope they can fix this.
Make Ooma Calls and Account Configurations-Not As Good for Configurations as the Website
This app is quite good. It allows you to use your cellphone to make calls from your Ooma account. Another valuable feature is the ability to accept Ooma phone number calls on your cellphone, which is very valuable. It also allows you to configure your account but it is more confusing and difficult to do on the app, than on the website.
Over the past few weeks, I could not block spam calls using the Ooma app. It worked before and was a major reason I paid for the Premium service package. The website worked fine. After reinstalling the app with no success, I called Ooma customer service. The person was very nice. Sadly, I was told the feature no longer works on the app (they couldn’t get it to work on their end either). O was advised to us the website to block calls. I ended up canceling my Premium service for the Basic service plan. Very disappointed Ooma is no longer supporting the call blocking feature in the app.
I can simply pick-up my (cell) phone and call my mom or my daughter…anytime, anywhere I have internet access. They see my US number (which I ported) just like they did before I moved to Germany. Works great! They can even call me on my same old (US) number. And they do. Which also works great! Ooma has stitched together a great app driven VoIP solution for everyone!!
I love where the only price is the taxes (free version which we currently have). Have tried out the premier\paid version for some extra features, and might be worth it because of the constant Robb calls we are getting. I was made aware though a friend has been using it for last few years. When I signed up, I spent a little more and got the Home Security bundle, which I love. If you still want to have a landline, but don’t want to get ripped off, then check out Ooma.
The app does not properly date the call history. This has been an ongoing issue for a couple of years. Often, it will group incoming/outgoing calls from the last 2 days all under the date category “yesterday”. For example, today is Friday, but App is showing calls that were received on Wednesday as being received “yesterday”. This can be very frustrating…and has caused issues for our family. Apart from this one significant issue, the app is great.
I have two children who are just beginning to stay home while we run to the store or has station ect. These phones allow a safety net. I know that if my children should need someone they have access to the phone. I also find singlet in knowing all info 911 would need to know if already available without fearing they wouldn’t be able to recite it!
This is our third VIOP phone service, the other two had anemic sound quality and even worse technical suppor. Ooma is slightly more expensive, however, the sound quality is excellent on non-Ooma handsets using the Ooma adapter and even better paired with the Ooma HD handset. I have only needed to call support once and it was fast, friendly and efficient.
Disclaimer: ooma nation asked that I post a review (they didn’t specify good or bad) in order to earn rewards. That said I have owned an ooma device for 5 years and it has saved me a lot of money (actually over $2000) compared to what I was spending with Comcast for a bundle with a landline. They have been a reliable service throughout the years. If I could do it again I would by the ooma Yelp that has wireless built in instead of needing to be tied to the router.
It would be great if Incoming Calls could be set to only ring phone when on WiFi. And better yet optional for only when on specific names in your SSID list. This way your mobile device can be a home phone while at home but doesn’t ring when out and about. Quite often I’ll be at work or on boat and it keeps ringing when all I want is that functionality when I’m at home.
The title says it all. After years of having a wired POTs line we broke from Ma Bell and tried Ooma. Their wireless phones and support for wired lines integrate seamlessly. Voice mail, multi line support and connections through the app offer features POTs never did. And the call quality is great, clear sound, no echo or tin can sounding calls.
I installed this app on my iPad Air2 out of curiosity but was pleasantly surprised at its functionality. I didn’t intend to create a cell phone out of my iPad but this comes very close. As long as I have access to the Internet via WiFi I can make calls as if I were at home. And, to top it off, the phone calls are free! Along with making calls I can check the call log and voicemail for my home phone. It is just amazing for a free app!
I recommend Ooma to anyone that wants an extra line at home or to cut the exorbitant cell phone fees altogether. Ooma has faithfully served my needs for a one line alternative to all the other pieces of telephony equipment I own. If I were to pair down and simplify, Ooma would remain. They’ve never pushed new contracts or forced me out of my old one. Great service. Good app. Easy to use.
The app is usually quite wonderful! However it will not let me log in anymore? I have gone to the website (more then once) and changed my info thinking this was the issue but this was no help. The app will simply not take anything I give it security wise. Please fix this small bug💝💝!
As a companion to Ooma’s award winning home phone service, this app lets you make calls from your Ooma phone number, receive calls when you’re away from home, check your Ooma voicemail, and more. Purchase the beautiful Ooma Telo at your favorite retailer or at Ooma.com. Getting started with the app: 1. Login with your Ooma phone number and password. Please note that the app works with the primary number on your Ooma account, not additional numbers. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by visiting My Ooma. 2. Make unlimited domestic calls without using your cellular plan minutes. The Ooma application makes calls using the Internet, also known as Voice Over IP (VoIP). Make sure that you have a strong Internet connection, either Wi-Fi or 3G/4G, to ensure the highest voice quality. 3. Make international calls for low rates. Visit My Ooma to purchase international calling credits or to sign up for the Ooma World calling plan which includes unlimited calls to more than 60 countries. 4. Dial numbers in your iPhone’s contact list or set up a list of Favorites for quick access from the Ooma app. 5. Get alerts for new voicemail and listen to them conveniently on your phone. You can delete messages or file them into folders, all from the app. 6. View your call history, manage your privacy settings, and more. The Ooma app requires iOS 7.0 and higher. Be aware that some mobile network operators prohibit or restrict the use of VoIP over their network or impose additional fees and/or charges when using VoIP over their network. By using Ooma Mobile over 3G/4G/LTE, you agree to familiarize yourself with and abide by any restrictions your cellular carrier imposes and agree that Ooma will not be held liable for any charges, fees or liability imposed by your carrier for using Ooma Mobile over their 3G/4G/LTE network.
