At some point over the past year and a half, the buttons on my game became shaded and somehow connected, making gameplay frustrating. I finally had the bright idea to write the developer. He wrote back within 24 hours and told me to turn the button shape toggle off (Settings-Accessibility-Display) in my phone settings. VOILA!! Problem solved in two seconds and I’m back to playing incessantly. Kudos to Russ, the designer, who responded to me and less than 24 hours. Who does that anymore? I’ve always been a fan, but now I am a devoted one. Thank you, Russ! For the game and for your quick support.
I am so bad with words and this helps me out with spelling and learning new words. I like the challenge. I haven’t bought the full game so I only do the 24 hour challenges. I think I’m getting better at them…I hope lol. The only issue I have with this game is the definitions. I LOVE that you can click on the word and read the definition. However, there are so many words that do not have a definition at all. If there isn’t a definition to the word, is it a real word? Even if it is a word, why add it to the game without the definition? Also, there are some informal or slang words that are used but some that are not. There are compound words that are used and some that are not. It is not consistent is what I’m trying to get at. That’s a lot of heckin words though and adding the definitions for them as well. I get it. My only constructive criticism is to either add more slang or compound words or get rid of them all to make it easier, as well as having the definitions. Since I have to wait 24 hours to start a new game because I’m on the free version, I literally look forward to the next day lol.
I love this game and play it regularly. I want to keep playing it. I am, however, currently frustrated by the recent app updates. I no longer can post games to the public forum. I also cannot save a screen name or appear on leaderboards. When I try to save a screen name in settings, I get an error message that says: “Account temporarily unavailable due to bad or missing Auth token”. But it’s not temporary — It’s been weeks now. I’ve update the app, I’ve updated my phone, I’ve even deleted and reinstalled the app but I still get the same error. And there is no “help” section in settings that deals with this glitch. I was hoping it would sort itself out in the next update, but even the recent one didn’t change anything. Please make this app simple and glitch free again! Also, after the most recent update, the playing board is slightly higher on the screen and the circles touch the words that you spell across the top - even in just a 5 letter puzzle. This is poor graphic design and annoying to look at. Please fix the spacing on the board!
I just installed Pangram today, went thru the settings, and started a new game on my iPhone 8, IOS 15.4.1. The problem appeared immediately in that the game screen won’t all fit on my phone screen. There is a grey grid around the letters with no purpose and I can’t choose the bottom letter at all because it jumps to the status page. I can’t see or use the backspace if it exists. Several others have reported similar issues going as far back as December. Maybe IOS 15 has something to do with it??? Anyway, I wish it could be fixed because I know I would like the game. UPDATE: The changes included in this latest update 2.0 fixed all of the problems I was having before. There are a couple of enhancements I would like to see, so I changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars, which is still pretty darn good. I thoroughly enjoy playing the game now, especially no time limit.
I downloaded this game a couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it up until the most recent update for iOS 15 on my iPhone 8+. Suddenly, the graphics became terrible: overlapping squares for each letter and a very crowded header area at the top of the screen. Also, the bottom letter of the playing area sometimes works, sometimes sends me to the game stats screen, and sometimes does not work at all. I would love for these to get fixed soon because they are very frustrating to deal with.
I just want to express my appreciation for this game. I have been subscribed to the NYT version for a few weeks and became immediately hooked; however, my disappointment and impatience grew having to wait til midnight for a new, once-daily game. I decided to search the App Store for something similar and found this @ 1.99 for as many games per day that I want! It's so thoughtful of you. The $3.99 per month for the NYT version adds up, and not many of us can afford it when there are so many utilitarian apps that take priority. The update today was great, and the enthusiasm with how it was announced made me smile. Thanks a bunch! 😊
One of my absolute favorite games! Things I love: - all of the customizable features to create the game you want: changing the number or required/optional letters, option to remove common suffixes - public games and leaderboards - ability to change colors of all the letters - timed and non-timed games Improvements I’d like to see: - clear all button: either a button that clears the whole word you’ve tried or if you double tap on the delete button the whole word clears or something - option to have the app automatically clear old games (like it asks if it can delete games from 2 days ago on) - i wish the dictionary would include country names, language names, and ubiquitous names like Lincoln or Washington, for example - setting to limit the number of forms of a words you can use (like making it so you can’t do right/rights/righter/righted if you want
I love word games and this is one of my favorites, and the app is really well done. My only gripe about the app is that the difficulty between different games changes drastically. Some games can be completed in minutes because the letter combinations lead to many common words. But some games are so difficult because most of the words are incredibly uncommon that it is impossible to get past 5 levels without having to randomly guess the rest of the words. This is just a small gripe though. Still love the game
Totally love playing this game even upgraded so I could playmore than one a day. Recently, I have noticed that letters are being reused in different games. The only thing that changes is the middle letter. The seven letters are all still the same. They are just using a different letter for the middle. VANELOF. - these letters were used in two different games, one game had N in the middle, the other had O. And to make matters worse the two games were only six games apart
This game works well. The colors and interface could be a little better (think NYT), but I do like being able to see the number of possible words and pangrams. There are three major issues: it accepts way too many obscure, foreign, and chemical words. Second, it allows too many misspelled words. Often the list includes the correct spelling along with one or more incorrect spellings. Last, the letter combinations that appear usually contain too many vowels and easy letters, and often provide for common suffixes to be added. I like challenging puzzles, but I don’t want to find 1000 words.
Recently downloaded this after getting into the NYT’s Spelling Bee game! I have really enjoyed playing on this app, especially since the NYT only releases one game per day. This interface is so much more responsive than Spelling Bee and I honestly prefer this app in most aspects. I just wish that the green checkmark wouldn’t pop up everytime you get a word. It would be awesome to have the number of points show up another way, maybe just smaller and on top or to the side of the letters. When it covers the letters it is distracting and interrupts my thinking process! Otherwise, great app 🙂
I love Pangram, but I have to agree with the other reviewers about the word list. Please fix it! I will update my review to a higher rating if it is revamped. I have no idea which dictionaries the dev is referring to; the criteria for valid words seems totally arbitrary. Some contractions are accepted, while some aren’t. Some places and proper nouns are included while others are left out. I can understand including foreign words in the common parlance such as “tsunami” or “rendezvous”, but why so many non-English words in an English word game? Why so many obsolete and obscure spelling variations? This cherry-picking makes an otherwise wonderful game frustrating and confusing.
Moved from the NYT Times version to this, and this app is much better. My wife and I can compete on the same game which is a fun thing to have throughout the day. We love being able to check definitions and see the breakdown of possible words/points/pangrams. Many more actual words are counted, unlike the NYT version. One suggestion is to add an ability for users to form teams that can play against each other. Outstanding app, definitely recommend.
I just can’t say enough about the game. Highly customizable gameplay means it never gets boring. You can adjust all facets of the play, required letter, optional letter, word length, even avoiding common suffixes to stay away from endless -ES versions of words. The UI is also infinitely customizable to fit your mood, your eyes and finger preferences! I made a minor suggestion to the dev and he was super engaging and interested. Whether he incorporates is up to him but he responded and didn’t ignore me. Lastly and definitely not least, there are no super invasive ads or click bait!!! I love this and have tipped on the side because I would rather give my money directly to the developer than endorse the practice of more and more ad space.
This program (or at least the free version) limits you to one game in a 24 hour period. This means that I can’t play quite one game per day. For, example, if I start a game at 8 AM on Monday, and start a game at Noon on Tuesday, I am not allowed to start a game at 8 AM on Wednesday again. I would like to be able to play one game a day, regardless of what time I start.
Please fix the word list, Pangram!!! It’s inconsistent and incomplete. Some common words “aren’t” words in your book? Nonsense. And some words the game accepts are not words—some have No Definition on the dictionary page; some are just sounds. Plus some are in Asian languages only; some common words in European languages are in and some aren’t; some proper nouns are in and some aren’t. What are the rules here??? There has to be consistency, and the rules have to be spelled out. One more thing: not every word you enter lands on your list. I love this kind of word game, but this one makes me crazy. It’s not smart enough, & it doesn't play fair.
Great app but sometimes words dont get scored properly
I got interested in this game from the New York Times puzzles, and it blows that away. I've been increasing my vocabulary by playing, and discovered the dictionary lookup of each word of a finished game by accident but it's a great feature! My only complaint is that when I've looked at the answers for games I've given up on, I frequently find words I KNOW I entered, yet they don't show a blue check mark in the list of possible words.
Seems like the game is connected to a dictionaries snd if there is a legitimate word you get the points for it. This is unlike another game that only allows games that are “ not on the list”. Hard to stop playing until you reach the level you are hoping to achieve. If a non word is put in you get a big red x.
… listing the user identified words in a single line that’s not in alphabetical order makes it difficult to check if you’ve already found that word. It’s not unusual to have well over a hundred words found over a period of several hours - too many to easily remember. Listing the words alphabetically, in columns (similar to NY Times Spelling Bee) would be a very nice improvement.
Affordable app for what you get. I’m ashamed I spend hours a day playing it. I used to be a huge Blossom fan but this game has replaced that object of my obsession. The developer, Russ, makes regular updates and sends lovely messages in the NEWS menu. Find words, see how you rank, create your own games, leaderboards. It’s all great.
I’ve really enjoyed playing this for more than a year. Fun while requiring thought. I’ve had no technical problems. However, none of the many dozens upon dozens of sets of letters have ever featured the letter ‘s’. Perhaps the developer has a superstitious reason for apparently not encoding words with an extremely common letter in the English language?
1. Does not know some words. 2. Accepts some non-English words but not others, often more frequently used by English speakers. 3. Can get flooded by contributors overloading unlimited numbers of games. Has its + and -. 4. I am really hooked on it, but not real good at it. Using it to keep aging brain sharp and greatly appreciate it. 5. And Valentina, where have you and you contributions gone? Get back in the game! Your puzzles among the best!
This game would be great if they used standard dictionaries as their word base.. I’m not sure where their library of words come from, but I’ve found NUMEROUS times that it doesn’t recognize words that exist, such as “unfulfilling”. They also have a bunch of words that have no definition or are proper nouns, but yet they don’t count all proper nouns. (Like “grigri”??) I know that I and a few others like to recreate the daily NYT Spelling Bee game so that we can play unlimited in Pangram. After completing today’s game & revealing the “full” list of answers, I cross checked some with the NYT & the Scrabble Dictionary. Pangram included the word “Jane” (which NYT & Scrabble did not) but not “wannabe” (which the others did). So it’s annoying that it’s not consistent, as I paid for the upgraded version.
User generated puzzles and a lot of options for making your own public matches. Some people are definitely cheating for some reason but other than that there's not really any downsides. It's exactly what you think it is and probably a little better 👍 10/10 word game with zero junk and no ads
When you make a word and press the enter button, the answer graphic (big green check mark, or a red X, etc) is superimposed right on top of the olaying field to the point that the letters are semi-obscured for a moment. This is an annoying distraction to those of us who like to play fast. No reason the answer can’t be on another part of the screen. Plenty of room elsewhere.
Really loving the new(ish) “word stats” feature! Seeing how many words remain starting w/ a given letter, or of a given length is fun and challenging. Motivates me to stick with each game until I reach level ten (and keep going) now that I can see the breakdown of what remains to be found. Thanks!!!
Good game, easy interface. Much like the NYT Spelling Bee. However, Pangram is using some kind of wild word list. Lots of nonstandard spellings and obscure words. You can get to the top rank without guessing a lot of words on the list—which is good, because I am not sure it’s possible. Also occasionally includes racially offensive terms as valid words. A better dictionary and a more curated word list would elevate this game to 5 stars.
I love this game! However the most recent update broke it for me. iPhone 12Pro, iOS 16.1.1. If I hit create game I am returned to My Games and then the app is completely unresponsive. I have restarted the app and the phone. Also tried deleting, restarting and reinstalling. Still the same.
I’m enjoying this puzzle app, and it certainly helps make staying-home-to-avoid-covid-germs less boring. I thought it was very reasonably priced and easy to use, and so far no bugs on an iPhone 7. I was, however, rather horrified to discover how many words I don’t know (I peeked at the answers after doing my first round).
For those of us who are technologically challenged, we have no means of submitting legitimate words for inclusion. This email link is beyond my understanding. I do not have email on my phone. Of late the game rejected wrentit (a bird) and allocute (when a criminal defendant admits to his crime to the court in his own words.)
This game is great. A few suggestions (and some may already be there): Playing the same board with friends. They have the same one and you can see how they’re doing, set a timer, etc. I know you can do it manually but integrated would be better. Word list at end. I know there is one. Maybe color the ones you missed in red highlight or something. Also, while playing perhaps give a total number of words possible so if I get 40/40 I’m not spending time looking for another word that just isn’t there. All in all, very slick looking interface already.
I love the game. It’s everything the NYT version is not. But the times that players post are totally bogus. Hundreds of points in just a few minutes? I don’t think so! I’m torn between hating the cheaters and wanting to learn how to cheat myself so I can post my own impossible scores.
I enjoy the challenge, and periodically I learn new words. The designer addresses bugs quickly and stay in communication. There seems to be an endless, number of pangrams to solve; and the dictionary of possible words has expanded.
I have really enjoyed this game. I am a total word nut. I was having difficulty recently getting my name on the public list, so uninstalled and installed it again. Imagine my surprise when I saw you had to now pay for an upgrade. What the heck? That stinks. I certainly played more than one game a day. Now, yes, it’s only $1.99 but it’s the principle of the thing. So what happened?
This game is a lot of fun. Very simple but clever puzzle game. I like how it doesn’t force you to watch a ton of ads, just spend $2 if you think it’s worth it. I have been experiencing a glitch - whenever I try to make a screen name to play public games I get an error that says “COULDN’T GET ICLOUDAUTHTOKEN FROM CREDENTIAL” - maybe the devs should look at this?
Wish it let you choose how “loose” its dictionary is - though to be fair, other apps have this problem as well. Unless you agree that “grugru” is word (real example), many puzzles are not completable. Would love to see an option to use Apple’s autocomplete dictionary, Merriam-Webster, or OED to generate answer lists. UI is so-so. Otherwise, very full-featured.
My dad’s version does not have these grey squares behind the letters. Mine also has a grey equal sign behind the letter at 6 o’clock which often (but not always) bounces me to the info screen when I try to choose that letter. I have to always click on the edge of the letter to avoid that bounce. Tried deleting and reloading the app - no change.
I spend much time trying to find every word possible, sometimes entering them twice and continually checking the words I already formed. When I finish and check all the words that are possible, I often find a number of them (some quite easy) that I wasn’t credited with. Very frustrating!!
Needs to list the words you have found on the main page so that you know what you have already found and can use those words to help find others with the same root. In other words, main page should be the same as in NY Times Spelling Bee game. Other than that, very good.
I started playing this as Spelling Bee in the New York Times but I didn’t want to subscribe just for that, so I was happy to find this. The app wouldn’t synch between my iPad and my phone at first, and sometimes it doesn’t scroll properly on the iPad, but it’s a lot of entertainment for very little money. I like it.
Downloaded and played one game. Then tried to play a second game only to find out I must upgrade from the free version in order to play more than one game in a 24 hour period! Sorry, but I don’t upgrade. I am absolutely fine with ads. Apparently there is no option for ads. So I deleted it. Don’t bother downloading this if you aren’t ready to pay to play. Absolutely ridiculous!
Love this game! Thank you! I do agree that the game would be much improved if archaic and non-dictionary words weren’t on the list. Quality over quantity! I was also perplexed that “brainiac” was not accepted as a word, especially since it’s a game level category name. I tried multiple times to enter it and it said it was not a word.
The design is so basic, you’d hope some attention would be paid to the user experience. A major flaw is that the words you find are not alphabetical listed. Another is that the found words scroll across the top, extending well beyond the page margins, so you can’t see what you’ve already entered without moving the page. These are enough to make me stop playing.
This is like NYT’s spelling bee on crack. It is worth buying the full version 10x over. The customization options are awesome, there are no ads, and any skill level can have fun playing. Favorite word puzzle game ever
The dictionary needs work. So many nonsense words and ridiculous pangram words. Today my pangram was “Zabajone” which is a defunct and archaic spelling of an Italian dessert. Even the internet redirects the word to zabaglione. So obscure and ridiculous. I do the NYT version daily and this just seems silly with the number of included words that most people have never seen before. Even words they have listed in the answer list have no definition!
Word list is total trash—no point until it’s fixed
Too many non-words, foreign words, and non-existent variations on spellings for this game to have any value. Bummer too because otherwise it’s pretty good and I liked the variety of game boards. Meaningless words though, king of remove the point of a game to guess all the (supposedly actual, real) words (in its language of play).
It’s a good anagram game, but there are way too many “words” that the game doesn’t define and Google searches can’t find. Like, “datto,” which Google says is the name of a company but otherwise seems to have no meaning. If a word isn’t in the dame’s dictionary with a definition, it shouldn’t count.
Using even the beyond-basic levels, this game does not recognize completely normal words (such as labile). It doesn’t make sense that you cannot get points for many common English words that are definitely found in the dictionary!!!
I just started playing the game and I noticed that yesterday I could get to “En Fuego” with fewer words and less time. Today I am doubling and almost tripled the the number of 5 and 6 letter words I am making I am still at “Solid.” Is there a rule I am missing?
I experienced a problem with the app right after an update; I was positively surprised by how the developer went out of his way to help solve the problem. Good app, but kudos for the developer.
Pangram is a simple game - just make words! See how many words you can make with the letters on the screen. Each word must include the center letter(s). Use letters as many times as you want in each word. Can you guess the pangram? Pangrams are words that use all the letters on the board. Each game has at least one, and many have more. Bonus points for finding them! Configure games how you like them: • Set the number of center (required) letters • Set the number of outer (optional) letters • Set the minimum word length That's it! No lives to lose. No penalty for guessing wrong. No stress. Just play! For some extra fun, send games to friends and family, publish them on the public games listing, or join other public games that fellow Pangrammers have posted. Each shared or public game has a leader board where you can track everyone's progress. In the free version you can create and play one game a day. If you're having a blast, upgrade to the Unlimited Games in-app purchase. Create game after game after game... Requirement: You must have iCloud Drive enabled to share games and play public games. The basic free tier is all that's needed. Final note: My kids want you to know that Pangram looks even better in Dark Mode. Embrace the dark side, they say.
