Download the app, enter your license plate, the zone number you enter is listed on your parking meter, then you click pay and you are all set (stores your cc info). AMAZING. All those rainy and cold days of running back and forth from your car to the meter and back to your car. And also the new meters have you enter your license plate number which slows things down quite a bit. This app is great. To the few that are complaining the app isn't loud enough at reminding them about their meter - it's called "Alarm" and just set your own timer on your phone for yourself. Remember the best part: pay from your phone and pay as you would like. No more overpaying meters and panicking that you ran out.
This app was recommended to me by a parking enforcement officer, after she saw me struggling to get out of my car, grabbing my crutches; oh, and did I say it was raining?! As someone with difficulty walking, this app is a godsend. For a small service charge, well worth it! I’d rather pay this small charge than fall and get hurt trying to get to the meter. Very easy to set up and use, just follow the prompts. If at an appointment, date, class or game; you don’t have to rush back to your car, just pick up your phone and open the app, put more money in the “meter”, right from where you are.
Pros- it’s convenient to use an app instead of a physical meter. Cons- I hate that there is an additional “fee” to use parking kitty in addition to paying for the parking and all the other fees that are tacked on by the city. Is that they only way the app makes money? My biggest frustration is not being able to end parking early and getting a partial refund. I’m talking if you pay for 2+ hours, but you only use 30min, you should be able to cancel if it’s within a certain amount left on your meter. For example, If there’s less than 30 left, then I can understand eating that cost and not getting a refund. In this economy, every dollar counts and I hate paying for services I’m not using.
ParkingKitty keeps asking me to rate it so here it is: I have to use this app for parking at work and school in my city. There’s no alternative. Parking Kitty can track license plates and individual blocks of spaces BUT does not rollover your time if you have to move. It would be a very easy function to write into the app and if people had multiple parking apps to choose from, you bet someone else would offer that. But PK had a mono yin my city, so they collect extra dollars here and there constantly. Also during sporting events were charged a premium even if we are going to our job and not to the event nearby. Parking Kitty is another example of how tech could be improving our lives but in reality is nickel-and-diming us.
As of today, Parking Kitty has saved me from being late for two Dr appointments, 3 meetings, and an important coffee date. I can pay for parking while running down the street or waiting for an elevator. And, if the meeting that I wasn’t late for runs long, Parking Kitty lets me know my time is almost up, and then (and this is the best part), lets me add time right from the app -- I don’t have to a) leave the meeting b) go back outside to the kiosk, c) buy another pass, then d) slog through the rain looking for my car so I can e) stick the pass in the window. Parking Kitty has changed my life!
Download the app, enter your license plate and card info, then walk away!! I parked, used the app, and went on my way in less than 5 minutes the first time I used this app. It’s very convenient for being downtown all day as you can wander freely without having to worry about your meter. PK sends you a notification if you’re about to run out of time and it’s easy to specify how much time you want on your meter. It even saves your meter zone codes to find them easily if you tend to park in the same place.
Love this app. When I'm in a hurry I use this to pay as I'm walking to my destination... just be careful not to forget! I forgot the other day and 30 minutes into my meeting remembered I never paid so I did right then, but apparently I was too late. When I came out to my car there was ticket (4 minutes after I walked away. The worst!!) I love how it reminds me when my parking is up and I can extend if needed. The $0.10 convenience charge is annoying (out of principle) but not a huge deal! Overall great app'
This parking app is exactly what I've been wishing for, for several years. In the age of the smartphone, it only makes perfect sense to be able to pay and extend parking through an app. Now I don't need to worry about running out of time and getting a ticket, and can extend remotely if I change my mind. Once you've entered your car license plate and credit card info, it's a breeze to pay. It's also convenient to have an in built countdown timer to know how much time is left.
What I mean is I've run out of time (two out of the five times I used it) without knowing, and am really lucky I didn't get a ticket during the lapses. The kitty only meows once, three minutes before your time is up. It's not very loud (even with my volume all the way up) and it's only one quick meow. I used Park Mobile in the Bay Area and it was way better. More notification options. It would be great if you could choose the timing and duration of the alerts. It's way too easy to miss at this point. I have to set a separate alarm on my phone. Otherwise I will eventually get a ticket.
Gosh, finding parking isn’t always easy, but when you do, it’s cake to pay for it. I’m the kind of person who forgets to pay until I’m five minutes walk from my car and this app SUPER solves that problem. It’s reliable and I’ve never had an issue with crashing or anything, and it makes it easy if your household has multiple cars to pre-save their license plate information. Also in COVID sad times this app means you don’t need to touch the payments kiosks on the sidewalk!
I’ve always hated coming downtown all gussied up and then have to stand out in the weather with my credit card and frantically push buttons until the machine finally prints a paper ticket that must then be brought back to my car, unlock and open the passenger door, bending over or reaching up to try repeatedly to jam the paper between the cars window rubber and the glass in such a way so that the meter ‘maid’ may read it. Sigh I love ParkingKitty
This app is so great and takes a little bit of the pain out of parking downtown. Not sure how long you need to park? No worries, just underestimate and reload from your app if you need more time. No more overpaying “just in case,” and no more running back to your car (in the rain) to add more time. One suggestion though: the app should be able to tell you what zone you’re in based on your geolocation, as some meters don’t have zone labels or are a bit far from your car, which means a bit of a walk just to find the proper zone to enter.
Just found out the hard way. So in Portland if you park on the side, according to parking laws here, you have to move your car to a new block face after the max time. So in order to use parking kitty, you first have to purchase a parking ticket, then you can add time, but since you have to move your car after the max hours, why not just buy a new ticket since you have to physically walk to you car to move it? I have to pay 2 parking tickets now because even though I purchased time extensions through parking kitty, it wasn’t valid because my car isn’t allowed to be in the same spot, regardless of you paying for more time. This is extra extra extra inconvenient for Portland State students.
The kitty is my new best friend! I find that I park in the same 3-4 zones fairly regularly, but I can never remember which is which. I wish I could assign a nickname to the zone numbers so I don't have to figure out which is which each time. I'd like to be able to personalize it so that the nickname is meaningful to me, not just the neighborhood/district name. And it would also be great if the zone numbers were bigger on the pay stations, so I can see them from a bit further away. It'd be a good way to make more people aware of Parking Kitty, too!
Very easy to sign in, navigate and pay for parking. Really easy to adjust how much parking you need to pay for. The app keeps track of your time so you can check in on your phone to see where you are and prevent your meter time from running out. I’ve used apps like this in other cities but, this is by far the easiest and most efficient. I’m super happy.
I tend to run late to almost everything so having to dig out my credit card, sidle up to the kiosk, wait for my little sticker to eventually pop out, walk back to the car to stick my sticker in the window, especially when it’s pouring down rain with my dog usually pulling on the leash, is a wet drag. Now I just sit in my very dry car pay the Parking Kitty and go where I’m going. It’s so much better! Thank you parking kitty!!!
Very easy and convenient to use! You just create a profile with your info (license plate + upload a credit/debit card for payment), enter the parking location and tap to pay. You can easily extend on the app; but if you are in a max time zone you need to wait for the time to expire before you can add time again. It saves your recent parking zone locations so you don’t have to remember it.
Me and my wife are out of town! So we downloaded the app when we were looking around to pay and it was so easy to follow the prompts! Is there anyway you guys can add that if your pay for the two hour parking, you can just pay more once it expires because we freaked out when it just said 2 hours only until it expires. Thanks!
Wonderful alternative to the ardous process of keeping track of meter time and wondering if you might get a ticket. It also allows for a small loophole in the parking limits (at least in Portland). Technically, you can buy the maximum, then wait until some time has gone by. Then you can continually buy more time. With the added bonus of never having to go back to your car.
7 years ago, noooo...i don't have a thing for the drummer :]
Finally !!
After accumulating more than my fair share of parking tickets I couldn't be more thankful for this app. I've been saying for years that those window tickets are a huge waste of paper and this new mobile option is a win win for everyone ! Small improvement would be having a map to tell you what zone your car is in, assuming you know where you parked your car.
That’s all! Although it would be nice if you could pre pay in a zone. For example, when parking time limit is almost up you cannot renew your parking until the time is up on the app. Then it’s easy to forget to renew on time since you’re not gonna state at your phone waiting for the last 3 minutes to go by in the middle of work. Not a flaw though, still great app!! Genius really.
I was visiting Portland to work remotely, and when I found out I could use this app to park, I gave it a shot even though I’ve had awful experiences with parking apps. However, this set up was super simple and smooth and makes parking a breeze. Imagine getting to extend your time right before ordering dessert and not having to rush back to your car! Amazing.
I was at a performance where I didn’t think I would be able to get out to feed the meter. So I thought Parking Kitty would be the answer. Return to my car to find a ticket, even though my time hadn’t expired on Parking Kitty. To make matters worse, Parking Kitty has no ability to dismiss a ticket, it’s through the city. And I’ve been trying to resolve the issue with the city for a week - they acknowledge that I paid with Parking Kitty and that I should not have received a ticket, but the help line cannot remove the violation, it’s a separate number that no one seems to answer the line, and no one calls you back. It’s been a week of calling and leaving messages with the city with no response. Now not all of this is Parking Kitty’s fault, obviously a lot of the blame is on the city, however a service like this is only as good as its ability to avoid what I’m currently going through. With that said, I would not recommend anyone use this app.
It’s so quick and I don’t need to stand in the rain anymore waiting for machine to print my receipt or worry if I need more time. It’s so convenient with the ‘reminder’ setting to be able to extend my time. It’s helping reduce parking tickets due to being stuck in a meeting, doctors, or on a job. I discovered Parking Kitty on my last Parking ticket ... and may that truly be my LAST ticket 😉
It works until it doesn’t! Don’t change your phone #
I changed my phone number, but you can’t edit that at all, even support can’t do it. Now, I have to create an all new account, lose my history, etc. However, I can’t even do that because when signed out of the app only has a sign-in option (enter your PIN) and there’s no ‘Create an account’ option anywhere. I reached back out to support on that, crickets chirping so far…
I don’t have to walk down to pay parking meters anymore!! The simplicity of the app is so layman’s that anyone SHOULD be able to understand it!!! Only 4 stars because there is no conversion for the watch… which I feel needs to be something to consider because when I’m at work and my phones not able to bring my phone out my watch is still on my wrist.
This has got to be the best invention in all Portland! Well snowy! The fact that you can just pay for parking from your phone! It’s awesome! When you paid for however maybe hours! If you stay longer you get notified instead of forgetting and having to run feed the meter more!
Hey, it’s Portland! It rains here. Stay dry while kitty “feeds the meter” without leaving the car. It works like a charm, warning you before time expires, allowing you to increase time without returning to the car (assuming you have not reached maximum time allotted for the zone). One great improvement would be an Apple Watch kitty. How about it, cat people? 🐈
This is probably the easiest app I have ever used, I just wish they would put it in Denver! So simple!!! Portland has a really great parking system and this app just makes it that much simpler to add time all while doing what you want to do! This app only charges 10¢ more per park and you can get discounts from stores! Totally worth it! Great app!
Love this app. Yes you pay a convenience fee but I love how you can add time if necessary without returning to your car. It's easy to use once you set up your car information and credit card. Then you just take care of it while you walk to wherever you need to be. Two thumbs up.
Dear passport or PDX. I write to you here as you leave no other place for feedback on your app or website. I have a German phone with a 3 number prefix. You refuse to accept it by stubbornly inserting a zero in front which knocks out the end number on my phone number. So.. no verification can arrive and thus no account and no use while visiting. Another half hour spent slamming my head against a wall of incomplete system design made worse by the lack of communication channels for assistance. Thanks for the love.
As annoyed as I was that I had to add yet another app to my phone, this is a convenient parking solution. I don’t need to use quarters or a potentially broken or nasty meter. Best part is the app reminds you when time is almost up and you can add time (unless there’s a limit in the zone).
Good in concept, but extremely dated by technology standards.
This app hasn’t been updated in 2 years. Bring it up to date from a UI/UX standpoint. Make it use the full screen and maybe add so geo specific features such as identifying the zones you parked in. Also maybe add QR codes to the street signs so you can easily enter and pay for the zone you’re in.
Not annoying, simple to use. Issues with the card scanning thing, but super quick just to type in stuff to pay for parking, easy to save card info, parking zone info, and your car info. Highly recommend, much much much less frustrating and handy than the meter.
This is a super easy, quick app to use. I don’t even have to think about it, I can pay for parking as I’m walking down to wherever I’m going. Especially awesome if I’m in a hurry, can’t make it down to the meter on time for refill, or when parking restrictions are vague.
PK has been awesome. Unfortunately a glitch caused me to be charged for three sessions simultaneously on Monday. I submitted a bug report, and after 36hours with no response, set about to get in touch with someone. I finally got a phone number from my city parking department and called today. I sat on hold for 20 mins before someone picked up the call and hung up. I called back and have been on hold for 48mins this time. I doubt I’ll ever see my $8, but now it’s a matter of principle. Support here is very disappointing.
I used this as a way to reup my parking without leaving class. Unbeknownst to me, you cannot continue extending the parking in certain zones so I payed for parking while collecting two tickets ($45 and $50). There was no information on not being allowed to park in the same zone even when paying and my payment was taken every time. This is a scam to accrue money in an inequitable manner. As the sole parent of a child with special needs and a full time student- $95 for a ticket on top of the ~$15-25 spent on the parking is completely unjust.
You can’t cancel a session once it’s started. If you pay for an hour, but you finish what you need to do in 20 minutes, you’re still paying for that hour. There should be an option to end the session early & only pay for the time you stayed. I have used this feature on other apps & it’s amazing. It also doesn’t keep tabs on where you parked, so if you’re playing tourist somewhere, the app will not guide you back to your car.
I recently got a job in Portland, I dont really venture into Portland via car. After getting this app it took a lot of stress off trying to find parking, on top of that if a specific spot allows you to renew, you dont have to walk back to your car, you can renew through the app!
I used the app four times today and never moved my car. My co-worker used it on the same street and got a ticket. I am wondering how long it takes to update the meter reader database, because my co-worker got a ticket two minutes after she paid through Parking Kitty. I'm thinking of printing out the logo and putting it on my dashboard. Might help.
I really enjoy the service but there needs to be a way to end a session outright without waiting for it to expire, Also there is necessity for the customer support number to actually be available in the app. I had to go digging through google to find an affiliate number.
No more waiting in the rain for your card to authenticate! No more scrounging for change! No more paper slips getting sucked into your door when you roll down the window! No more forgetting what time your meter runs out! Exclamation points!
This app is a convenient solution, however it feels very outdated with giant black bars on the top and bottom of the screen. Also, I wish Apple Pay was an option. I’d feel a lot better about paying for parking that way than having my credit card info stored in the app.
The app looks like it was created by a middle school coder who loves the color pink but it’s straightforward, not glitchy, and just does what it’s supposed to do. Turns out things don’t need to be fancy to work well. Well done ParkingKitty.
Parking Kitty is the elegant answer to the messy problem of parking. Kiosk dead? Forget it-load Parking Kitty and get parked while everyone else is trying to get a parking pass from a dead machine. It's cute too-it meows at you when your time is up. Charming!
Load in your car info and payment details and if you consistently park in the same area it’s incredibly easy to park, pay and go. No hunting for change and worrying about time limits. Love it.
Parking Kitty makes an annoying task (paying for parking) painless and non-annoying. It’s easy to set up and a piece of cake to use. No more fumbling for your credit card, hoping the machine works, dashing back to renew your parking only to discover you forgot your keys. Just clean and simple.
I paid the fare using the app with all information double checked. When I came out with over 13 minutes left in my time, I found a warning of citation for lack of payment left on my vehicle. I took a screen shot of my existing time along with the citation in case this goes further. Hopefully I will be able to improve my review with further use.
But thank you for making parking so much easier, the app is simple and fast. In a world we’re things keep getting more difficult this app makes it a little simpler.
I rate this 4 stars because it’s very convenient, but it would be 5 stars if it had better out-of-time alerts. There’s an almost-inaudible meow, and a push notification. I miss it 95% of the time, often going 15-20 minutes over. I want it to ring, vibrate, scream until I’ve acknowledged.
