Patelco Mobile Banking Review
I am generally leery about using technology to manage my money- hackers have breached companies like Yahoo and and Equifax and left me feeling insecure with the belief that any system can be breached and that my Patelco online banking system could be vulnerable. Having said that, I have not experienced any noteworthy problems using the mobile banking app to deposit all checks. I currently live 45 miles from any PATELCO branch, I prefer not using cooperating SERVICE CENTERS closer to home for banking deposits and use my mobile app to make deposits from home.

Mobile Deposit Bugs
Before this new update I was having a problem with mobile deposit. While taking a picture of the back of the check the app would annoyingly keep insisting I flip the check even though I didn’t need to. This would eventually happen enough times that I would be able to use manual capture. Why isn’t manual capture an option from the beginning? Well I updated the app hoping this glitch would get fixed... well it was just replaced with an even more annoying and inconvenient one. Now when the app captures the photo it immediately logs me out saying I’ve “timed out”. So, now I can’t even use Mobile Deposit. Luckily I don’t hate visiting my local CU, but it really is an inconvenience considering it’s not in my neighborhood and technology could be making CU use so much more convenient and reliable. Overall I am a fan of Patelco and I’m happy an app even exists. But I do hope that this glitch can be quickly fixed.

“Improvements” net negative
So they have Touch ID but have to tap login first? It takes an inordinate amount of time to load. Then you get to a dashboard page just like their desktop which I don’t like either - maybe cause I don’t have multiple accounts (who does?) - just checking, savings and a credit card. I tap on “checking” on the dashboard and I get to a page that show me my checking, savings, and CC - again?! I would’ve expected to go to my checking account? It’s just like the desktop world where you’re trying to reduce clicks/friction. I know this isn’t part of their app but their alerts used to be real time. I buy something and I get a text. Now it comes hours later - sometimes the next day. Mobile check deposit and a logout button that remains constant are the only saving graces of the updated app. We’re tech dependent - make it easy and frictionless.

Still broken
Update: months later it’s STILL broken. Support is no help. Previously, it was still working on my partner’s iPhone, but it’s broken there now too. Hangs at login with a white screen and spinning loading animation. It’s bad enough that I’m considering switching credit unions. Hasn’t worked on my phone for months. Over multiple iOS versions. Crashes when logging in. I’ve reinstalled it and that didn’t fix anything. I even reached out to Patelco’s support and they couldn’t help. Really disappointing. I would hate to switch financial institutions simply because I can’t use their app to deposit checks. That’s a really important feature for me and it’s not accessible as the app crashes every time I try to log in.

Takes Time. /. And Patience
I’m 73 and not technical. The learning process has been challenging but rewarding, it’s been confusing while still the best thing ever.... My score is not fully 5 star yet. There was no 4.5 score but since mobile banking is much like a brain game, I just have to keep playing. I relish the day I say, “Not only is Patelco Credit Union a solid 10 star financial institution, their mobile banking seems easier and I think I’m winning”. They care. IT’S PROGRESS: Six months ago I would have rated the online process somewhere around a 2 because I’d been using the old system so long that it was comfortable and the new system was confusing. I realize that my score in about 6 months might be a 5 because the new way will be even more familiar. PATELCO Credit Union scores a solid 10 even though that score is not available to me. And, I have lived in NC for 18 years.

Bug affecting display time
The app is great. It has received consistent improvements over the last year or so. For some reason the most recent update has messed with how the time is displayed. As soon as you log in the time and status bar on the top left and right hand side of the iPhone is blacked out. The time is visible again when you scroll and hold the screen. Bug does not affect functionality but it wasn’t there before

Mobile Deposit
I have had issues with mobile deposit since back in December. I have called and sent messages. I have uninstalled and re-installed multiple times. Just did again as received message problem fixed. NOT. I get logged out automatically while flipping the check to get the other side and get Cannot Authenticate and get logged out. Even tried to Reply to the message I had received and was logged out before could send. What started nice is quickly going downhill. Improvement? None. Can set for Touch Login, but have to select (press Touch Login) first and then can use Touch Login. Huh? None of the other banks or apps have to do that. Branch service is nice. Mobile banking is so needed! Good Mobile Banking is needed. Not this!

Phone problems
Your phone service, which I find critical at times, is the worse I’ve seen in a long time. I’m 74 years old, and sometimes I need help and prefer to not be forced to go to a credit union for help. I’m not interested in online banking in terms of transactions ( no computer, only an IPhone which has print too small to read when my eyes are bothering me) for various reasons. Please fix your phones. And, whatever you do, do not send me instructions how to use online banking.

Great app
I’m a long-term Patelco Customer, and I currently DO like the Patelco’s mobile app. However, the Bill Pay Service they took away some features that were quite significant. I am looking forward to them putting those features back onto the Bill Pay Service, the features include a record of last months payments so you can compare each payment month-to-month. I also like them to add a memo line for the the Online transfers, those are nice features for record keeping.

Frustrating
Since the most recent upgrade I’ve had nothing but problems with mobile deposit. When it does the auto capture of the front of check everything is fine. The auto capture of the back of the check continually says to flip over to back side or “unable to authenticate “ and then logs me out. Once in a while the manual capture will work. It’s nothing but frustration and I did not have this problem before the upgrade.

WORST APP EVER EXISTED!!!!
This has got to be THE WORST app ever existed!!! I’ve never had this much problems with any app, EVER! There’s always an error when doing mobile deposit! Please fix it! I’m tired of going to the bank to deposit my money when I can just do it on my phone! I can NEVER deposit my checks anymore... Now, it won’t even allow me to log in claiming that my password is incorrect. Weird because it is saved, and usually I log in with Face ID! I constantly have to reset password and I’m tired of this crap! I’m also annoyed by the constant maintenance period where you can’t log in then when I’ve tried to logged back in, it just crashes and causes more problems. PLEASE FIX THESE ISSUES!!! ITS USELESS HAVING YOUR APP IF WE CAN’T LOGIN OR USE ANY FEATURES!!!!!!

Improvements
Using the online payment...it would be helpful to have the account no ending identifying the accounts. I may have two or more accounts with the same name and it’s difficult to know which account I am paying for. It’s also hard to scroll down to the account I’m making a payment for and re-scrolling upwards for the payment. I think the old format was easier to use.

Consistent VoiceOver crash
I would consider this app a solid 4+ if it were not the fact that the app consistently crashes when attempting to choose Zelle when VoiceOver is running. If VoiceOver is off then the app works as expected. But when VoiceOver is running, double-tapping on Zelle which I use all the time places focus on the home screen whereby it's necessary to reactivate and log back into the app. The only work-around as a blind user is to turn VoiceOver off, have a sighted assistant tap the Zelle icon, and I can resume my banking from there. Very inconvenient from a need for independence perspective.

Mobile deposit malfunctions
App is great except for chronic problems with mobile deposits. The app consistently logs me out automatically after I take a photo of the front of the check I’m trying to deposit, before I can take a photo of the back to complete the deposit. I then have to log back in and begin the entire process of entering all the info from the beginning. It takes at least three tries to deposit a check; sometimes it won’t work no matter how many times I try. This has been a long-running problem.

Bug: reverses day/month when scheduling transfer
I'd actually rate this app four stars, however there's no way to report a bug, so I'm rating one star to get the dev's attention hopefully. If your phone is set to European (ddmmyy) date format, and you make a transfer, the month and day get swapped, scheduling the wrong date. So i just today, may 7, tried to transfer (immediately) between accounts, and instead of an immediate transfer, it for scheduled for July 5. So 5/7 and 7/5 got confused. To be clear, i didn't manually set a date at all, wanting immediate transfer, but the app scheduled it two months from now on its own.

New updated app works great
I’m not familiar with the issues others have listed re: the older versions, but the latest version works great for me on the iPhone 7+. I like the intuitive and easy user interface overall, and the mobile deposit feature is fast, easy and it works well. For a small credit union, this app works great and is better than my other bank’s.

Transfer for principle seems to be missing
After a monthly mortgage payment is automatically deducted and it reflects on your account balances (presumed on the 30th of the May) and you go into your account to make a principle only payment, it will only let you make the normal payment for that month. Its already been made, and even if you try on the 5/31. it still only shows your only option is to pay your normal mortgage payment on 5/30. This use to work for principle, I never had a issue before. Patelco really needs to have your test team go through new releases.

Thanks for great customer service
I really feel your both Daly City & San Bruno branch have given great service. I have account at another credit union but they seem unfriendly & sometimes don’t seem to want to help a customer. I really like that you have a 24 hour service also. The only problem I had was trying to get used to remember my member numbers & that I had a little hard time getting online. The customer service rep was just great, Thanks again.

Latest update is solid!
Best update yet! Full screen support for iPhone X. Thank you! App is laid out well now. Quick and reliable. Looks good too! Extra step for Touch ID is annoying. Why not allow us to add profile pic, instead of generic default? App is decent, but can be slow and unreliable at times. Also, I don't need a pop up telling me there's an update when I log in! The App Store does that for me.

Mobile depositing
I love banking with Patelco. The only downside was parking in downtown Oakland or Berkeley. Once I started using mobile deposits it made by banking experience with Patelco 100% satisfactory. Great service and smooth operation for on line banking. Great people to work w at the bank in downtown Oakland and wonderful feeling to get away from the “too big to fail” banks that had to be bailed out by taxpayers for their risky business with Wall Street

Access Restricted?
Update: Patelco classified my account as “dormant” because no recent activity on my accounts, but I am just “parking” money in 5 year CDs and otherwise I have no need to use Patelco. Said I should have received notice in Mail, but did not. Since my credentials were still valid for my incomplete login, you think they could have been specific and say account was “dormant”? Or even better, have had the courtesy to inform me by email BEFORE my account was classified as dormant, if I did not complete a transfer or other activity by a given date. Instead had to call Customer Service, waiting ten minutes, not knowing at the time the cause of the “problem”. ——- Get message: “We are unable to log you in because of a restriction on your account”. My log in is accepted but then get that message with absolutely no explanation of what the restriction is and how to remove. Frustrating as I am away from home on vacation.

Good, but minor tweaks would make it better
App works fine and allows me to do most of what I need to do, but not all of the functionality of the full website (MoneyLink-24, for example). Some of the UI would be much easier to use with minor improvements, such as: going directly to account history by tapping on that account on the landing page (versus going to accounts, then tapping on it), or having the logout button at the top of the menu, rather than scrolling for it.

Mobile Checking Deposit has been broken
Whenever I use the Patelco Mobile App to make a Mobile Checking Deposit, the App logs me out after taking a picture of the front of the check. I have to enter the password to log in even though I set the App up to allow Touch ID log in. The Touch ID login does work if performing a fresh launch of the App. For some reason, when I take a picture of the front of the Check, the App appears to be doing something afterwards, then I get the Error pop up box indicating that I have been logged out due to inactivity. I am using iPhone 6 Plus running IOS 12.1.4. I was having the same problem with the previous Patelco Mobile App. This App has exhibited this behavior for the past year. Because the Mobile Check Deposit doesn’t work, this App is useless. I now have to Scan check Front and Back on the flat bed scanner and perform the Deposit on a Computer browser login session.

So convenient
This online service is so convenient and allows me to check my account or pay a bill any time, anywhere. I live mostly in Utah now where there are no Patelco Credit Union locations. This online banking allows me to continue doing business with the company I’ve been a customer of for many, many years even though I’m out of California. Love it.

The app beats using my computer!
I did not have success with the app for another bank, but this really works. Easy, quick access to view accounts, pay bills, transfer money. I haven’t tried the deposit feature yet, but am guessing it’s just as efficient. I can use fingerprint recognition to log in, also a nice feature.

True local and personal banking
My wife and I have been members for 20 years. They are organized around the customer, not corporate clients. You will get quick service at all branches, and can always talk live with someone on the phone. No more endless phone trees. I use the on line services each day. Please consider Patelco if you are fed up with the mega banks taking you for granted.

Consistently Good App
This app has yet to fail me. I have always been able to transfer funds, make payments, deposit checks, and check balances without fail. Easy navigation throughout as it is not riddled with a lot of options making it hard to navigate, extremely East to use which I appreciate.

Good, but needs some fixes!
My biggest issue with this app, and the website, is that it constantly requires you to nickname the device, and you cannot use the same name more than once! I have two computers and a phone…I cannot keep track of what number/version it’s on (laptop1, laptop2, phone1, phone2 etc). Let me name the same device the same name!!!

Do not like home screen automatically showing balances
The app is fine but on the last update it now shows my account balances immediately after opening the app, before logging in. This is not a good feature for privacy, your accounts balance are right there for anyone to see wether you trust them or not. Please remove this or is there a way to change a setting so it opens to the login screen only??

Transfer to external accounts does not work well
This app is works fine to check balances and to transfer funds between StarOne accounts… However, you cannot link an external account through the app, only through the desktop. The feature appears to be there, but after you enter all the requested information, the app will not set up the link. Without the link, you cannot transfer funds to/from external accounts.

I have been with Patelco for about 18 years. Every single time I have had excellent, friendly, professional service and I recommend all people that I talk to about banking that they choose Patelco. Thank you guys, you always make me feel my satisfaction matters. And it does, I have closed my prior accounts with banks because of this specifically.

Too slow to be useful
It works but it’s slow and lacks the polish and ease of use that other banking apps have. A lot of features are hidden behind menus that aren’t intuitive and it doesn’t allow me to save my device so any time I log in, I have to go through 2FA and it takes a minute. Basically it just takes too long to do anything on this app to make it convenient.

Love banking with PCU and the app is awesome and user friendly. Thank you for my membership. Just yesterday went to Bank of America for cashing a check in their branch, awful, never get support you need. I came to my bank (Patelco Credit Union) - super awesome, cashed my check, no questions asked. Great bank and staff is always friendly. Thank you

Banking at its Best
Patelco is the perfect bank for me. I’ve been with over 20 years. They always have met my needs and treat as a valued member. I love the mobile app because I can keep abreast of my account literally anywhere. Any problem I’ve had over the years, very few, they’ve resolved it quickly. Great people, great bank.

I think it’s completely ridiculous that a company that’s working around the clock with another security cyber company can’t figure out how to fix what happened by now.! We are completely in the dark all of your members and you are giving vague information about anything and you’re not even telling us when it’s going to be fixed by.!! We’re going into a holiday weekend for God sake.!!!!Right now I would give this app zero stars if I could!

Please someone fix something. It is making me verify and add a name of the same exact device I’ve been using to sign in. Yes I did select the option to remember the device every single time. I’ve already made 5 names for the same device. And yes I have deleted the app and reinstalled it to make sure it is the current version. It is really getting annoying.

Mobile banking
I love mobile banking!!! Everything from mobile check deposit, money transfers and bill pay are easy and efficient. Touch log on is is great for on the go rapid access. I like checking my balance and recent transactions wherever.

Right now is a perfect example of my 3 star review: I would love to be able to view my routing and checking account numbers using the mobile app as I am able to do with my other banking apps. More often than not this app refuses to give me the option to use my Face ID(inconvenient). Otherwise this is a basic app

I just love being a member. Excellent customer service. Friendly and professional. Also, the app is very easy and convenient. I like how easy My money transfers, and phone deposits by taking a picture. I’m notified via email when my deposit has been submitted.

Zelle
Personally I love the app, it’s easy to check my balance without having to actually log in and it’s user friendly. The only issue I have is that the Zelle feature is ridiculously slow to load unlike most bank apps. Other than that great app!

Grown to love it!
When Patelco first introduced the newest version of their mobile banking, I was not a fan and even commented as much. As I've gotten used to the new app I love it. Turns out I was simply resistant to change, been a member for 40 plus years so change is difficult. Love Patelco, even without Ed Callahan.

Mobile deposit is horrendous
The mobile check deposit is the most infuriating app flaw I have ever dealt with. It crashes nearly every time. At least 90% of attempts to photograph the check crash the app. It has taken me two days—on more than one occasion—to deposit a check on this app. When will this be corrected? Does anyone at Patelco actually read these reviews? Please fix this. I joined Patelco to get away from big banks, but their mobile apps are looking very tempting right now.

Does the job.
Loads faster than the Chase app. Functions just fine. Could use a bit of a facelift but I don’t need it to be pretty, just to manage my finances well, which it does. Has quick login with fingerprint, which is very handy, if not finger-y.

More hang ups than some of my family members
Good app mostly however it hangs up and won’t let me in. looks of error messages if I see “oops …try again “. and when ypu try again you get the same thing ovee and over. Frustrating as hellwhen you need access to your accounts and all you get is that error message over and over. Seems to get worse woth each update. Hate it overall because it’s so undependable.🤢

So far so good. Easy to navigate. Been using it about two months. So far I like this app and the credit union service. **For those getting "logout/retry/ contact it's likely because your cellular data is turned off for the app (iPhone). Go to settings and check that Cellular Data is turned on!

Love this!!!
After years of being a Patelco member my 21 year old daughter, who also is a patelco member, downloaded the Patelco app for me today. This is a game changer - I have been logging in through an internet browser the HARD WAY!! Omg I LOVE HOW EASY IT IS TO LOG IN NOW! I have been playing with it all morning. Hahahaha.❤️

Doesnt work
for months now my Patelco App wont open or even work at all. Ill put in all my login information and it just buffers. My app is updated and my phone is updated to the most recent Apple update as well and it still doesnt work for me. extremely inconvenient and annoying because it used to work no problem but its been at least 6+ months since it last worked for me.
