Very competitive rates. However their customer service and online banking leave much to be desired. First off if you are strictly using them for a CD their website and app are basically useless unless you are depositing funds or viewing balances. You will not be able to withdraw your funds even upon maturity unless you physically call them and schedule a transfer. A very odd and unnecessary feature aimed at making customer forget and or not want to go through the hassle of moving their money during the one week grace period after maturity before you are automatically reenrolled.
Please note when you open a new account your only allowed to add one bank account and its for deposits only. I called up customer service which took about 5-10 min before i could get a live rep. She sounded like she was frim somewhere in India. Said you can only have one account forfirst 70 days and it can only be setup to add money. After the waiting period they add the option to transfer money out. I am a bit untrusting so im not going to add anymore cash until i can transfer money out. You can have them delete the one bank account and change to a different one but only for deposits until 70 days are up. Interest rate is 5.40% ehen i wrote this. I could get 5.50% on a citi moneymarket but would need min of 100k. You may want to go that route if you have that much cash.
Unbelievable how bad their app, website, and service are. The browser on you phone forces you to login through the app, but the app doesn’t allow you to conduct *any* business. Want to transfer money in? Nope, gotta use a desktop to go to their website. I have to reset my password every time because it tells me it is wrong, even though I screenshot my last login so I *know* it is correct. Calling them is a nightmare also. I’ve set up recurring transfers from my funding bank and yet it never saves the info. I wish I had picked a buyer bank for a high-yield savings account. I’ll be closing this ASAP.
If you bank with Popular Direct, hope that you don’t need their help on anything, ever because their app is practically useless and it’s just about impossible to get anyone on the phone (I’ve been on hold for 45 minutes and counting as I write this just to talk to anyone with a pulse). This shouldn't be the trade off to get higher than average interest rates on simple financial products because other online banks seem to do the job MUCH better (check out Vio Bank instead and you’ll be happier with the results).
Severely limited in functionality, can deposit a check but no way to add or manage an external account to transfer into the savings account. Fine, I’ll use the mobile website right? Nope, the site redirects to the app. Better off on a desktop browser. Ridiculous work around to use chrome browser in desktop mode to initiate an external transfer.
Popular direct has great rates for their savings and CDs. That being said, their app does need some work. You are unable to do anything on the app. Want to transfer money? You have to log in through the desktop. Doesn’t really bother me because if they invested so much into the app, I’d assume interest rates wouldn’t be so great. So I’m satisfied with their decision.
I don’t know what everyone’s complaining about. As far as I know, Popular Direct pays the highest savings rate of any bank in America. So the app is a little bare bones. It does the job. Would you rather your bank waste money on apps, or put it directly into your pocket? I know my choice.
Aside from seeing your balance and very recent activity the app is relatively useless. What is frustrating is the web portal automatically directs you to the app, and the app has no statements or functionality making it very frustrating to do anything or get information. It is hard to fathom how this setup is considered acceptable in 2024 when most tweens could do a better job creating an app.
You cannot add a bank to transfer funds from and the app apparently does not talk to the desktop site, as the bank I transferred initial funds from (which IS saved on the desktop site) is not on the app version. And there’s NO WAY to add a bank in the mobile app! So dumb. I emailed customer service weeks ago and have yet to hear anything back about this issue.
If you go onto their mobile website, it FORCES your phone to go to the app store and download the app. Won’t even let me sign in on my mobile browser. You cannot add a bank account to transfer funds from the mobile app. You MUST do this from a computer. If I try to transfer funds using the mobile, it says sorry you must have a connected account.
Absolutely The Worse App - CANNOT Access My Account
Terrible, terrible, terrible app. On the phone with customer service for 45 minutes trying to access my account. Finally got in, but, later, can no longer access the account. Don’t feel like being on the phone with customer service AGAIN just to access my account. This is outrageous!
As I said, you are limited to what you can do on this app. Don’t expect to be able to message the bank from the app. Don’t expect to be able to see what the current rate is on your high yield savings account. It’s a basic app, you can check your balance, transfer and see your monthly interest credit.
The app requires the user to log in using a web browser to change an expired password. But, when trying to sign in with different browsers, the website forces the user to use the app. It’s a catch-22 if the user doesn’t have another device available without the app installed.
The app is completely pointless. You can’t do any thing at all on it. And trying to login to view my savings account on my phone force opens the app so I can’t even view anything on the website either. Genuinely don’t even understand how it’s possible to be this bad.
Should have option to transfer money through mobile app. As well as website. It’s a hassle having to do it through a computer if you want to transfer money. Please fix this issue!
I'm told by the bank that, furthermore, there are no plans to update it, since they want to focus on the (also terrible) website. It's best not to do business with an online bank that 1) has a nonfunctional app 2) has an awful website 3) has incompetent phone support.
Cannot login on website and app only shows basic information can't do anything on it. When I try and login on chrome/safari it forces me to app. Cannot do anything unless on desktop which is annoying. Horrible services
Just signed up for an account. The app doesn’t have any features and now that I’ve downloaded the app I can’t log in to the account from the browser so I’m effectively prevented from accessing my account. Not happy. Looking for a different bank.
I hate the fact that I cannot make any external transfers thru the app… this is actually not banking my way as you advertise. Please fix this! Not all of us carry a laptop and the website is not even supported by phone.
It will not retain your login info, so any time you want to access your account you have to call customer service and go through 50 steps to get a password reset. I just want to check my balance!
Terrible app. Planning to change my high interest account. Can’t even log into the website on the phone to mark deposits without being rerouted to this god awful app. Would rate less than 1 if I could.
This app is so bad, I’m actually looking to transfer my savings out of popular direct despite liking their interest rate… it’s just not worth the trouble to work through their technical difficulties.
Why bother to have an app if it does not work. Good luck signing in or doing anything in this app. For a bank that is digital the logical option is to have a functioning app. They need to fix this major problem.
You can see your balance, but no details, no statements, and the only way to do this is on a desktop because if you try to sign in on web, it takes you to App Store.
Popular offers excellent rates and I haven’t had any issues dealing with them directly, but the app is completely useless for anything other than checking your balance.
The app experience needs to be improved a lot. You can’t do much in the app besides viewing your balance. The app doesn’t even allow you to do money transfers!
Unable to deposit money. Then refuses to let me sign on. Then had to wait 20 minutes to talk to someone who tells you that’s all they have. Too bad so sad.
The app is basically useless, you need the full site to do most things. This requires me to change a setting on my iPhone just to log on! Customer Svce is rude & basically unhelpful. Period!
I can’t even login on the app—only the website. Attempting to use the website on mobile forces an app download. So my account is inaccessible except with a laptop. Archaic.
The worst bank with the worst customer service. Can’t even access my account anymore. My money is just left there and customer service does nothing. STAY AWAY!
Just bad. Keeps loosing my Login info so i have to keep reentering uet pwd. Face recognition keeps restarting so i have to keep logging on w user pwd. Just terrible app dont work as it should
The blurb says this app will provide a NEW user experience. Yes, it does! I’ve never used an app that is this bad. It is totally useless. Try to make a bank to bank transfer? Impossible with this app. There’s no way to set it up. Don’t waste your time downloading this worthless nonsense. Could this give us a clue about the competence of the bank itself? Two decades into the 21st century and a bank dares to put this up as an example of how it does business? I would give app no stars if I could.
Very annoying that when I want to deposit from my savings at home to Popular the app cannot do this. Forced to sign-in on web. Also my tax refund checks cant be deposited via app because of a low maximum deposit so I need to go to my local bank, deposit and transfer. Otherwise its fine to simply check your balance.
This is a very frustrating app to use. It doesn’t support fingerprint login, so of course I’m not going to use it, because there’s nothing stupider than entering my password every time. The first time you login, you have to receive a text message for verification, or answer a whole bunch of stupid questions that were very easy to get wrong. The company needs to work much harder on it’s mobile app.
I’d leave negative stars if I could. I spent a half an hour on the phone with customer service because after 20 times of trying to sign in on the app, it still won’t let me. I’ll use the same login info on a desktop no problem, but for some reason the app wont let me. I reset my password 3 times. Deleted and re-downloaded the app. No luck. This is completely unusable.
I cannot access my account via this app or the mobile app. I have been told for over two weeks that they need to merge my account with my online profile and that something went wrong when I signed up for an account using their mobile interface.
