I have been with Provident Bank for a quick a few years. The company I used to work for used to jump around banks that they were using to do direct deposits for a checks. If you’ve got a paper check and didn’t have an account, they would charge an enormous amount to catch the check even though they were making a lot of money processing paychecks. Finally, my company found Provident Bank and have been with him and using them ever since. I have since retired and moved out of and still keep my Provident Bank permit in Social Security comes in I can transfer it to another bank real quick and I choose to do this as I don’t like any other bank as much as I like them. You go through the drive-through and the second time there they were already know your name & your face. I asked them if they were using something to identify you, and they were not! I find this rather amazing! So, I have an account at another bank because they’re not in my state where I can transfer all my bill money and as a back up in case my debit and I need to wait to get it replaced I have access to my money always! Every person in the Flemington branch is personable, and nice they treat you very well! You also get interest on your account & may also have your ATM fees refunded! Great bank I just left Provident in Flemington New Jersey! I wish they were all over.
I love it!!!…in Agreement with some of the other Positive Reviews , The Bank Gave us A Notice when you go to your Account at the Bottom of the Page…stating that there will be a New App coming you can Go to your App Store and download the New App, So I don’t understand the : They Never Told us about the New App….it’s been sitting in the front of your website Banking for the Last Two month’s ,…Steve wonder Can see it.. 👀 so I don’t understand the Miscommunication Or The Misinformation That the bank didn’t inform you, I Just download the new Provident Banking App Which I should have Done Two Month’s Ago and It’s Improved far Better than the Old App..
Its annoying enough there was no warning of a NEW APP , just an update . but the fact my account somehow does not work anymore yet im unable to register a new account is what's actually pis*ing me off . how am i supposed to cash my checks or do anything related to my bank account if i cant even get past the login screen !?! did they not think beforehand on how everything would run , because honestly from these reviews no one is happy with this app , its just so inconvenient . it really shows a lot about this business since they arent doing anything at all to fix it asap , i guess they dont care since it doesnt affect them . the old app may have been bland and didnt have many features , but at least i could check my account balance . and by the way , if your app isnt even gonna let me access my account , at least be open longer on saturdays so i have some way of depositing money . thanks for nothing , shoulda signed up with chase bank .
This bank is terrible, they are behind all the other banks in everything. The app is ok but things take forever to drop off; the website is a joke and keeps taking me around in a circle because apparently my iPhone is too advanced for their website from the 1900s so I cannot sign in. And their customer service phone line is another joke; they’re closed by 8 I believe and on Saturday’s by 2 so if you need them outside of those times, oh well and when you do get through, it’s like talking to a wall. Once COVID restrictions are removed, I’m finding a new bank.
Don’t appreciate the steps they’re taking to implement the new app. Why the heck do they need to prevent us from online banking in general to update an app? What’s worse is our passwords are being reset without our consent and they did little to no job notifying us with urgency that they’re going through upgrades. Even so, what kind of incompetent IT team or app developers are they using to upgrade or change the app. I can get college students to create a better app and layout than this. I’ve never dealt with this kind of BS before. PLEASE FIX!
The reviews here are from the minions inside the bank! They’ve posted fake usernames to shield their identity as employees of the bank. The truth is that hardly any Provident customers are satisfied with the process and procedures of this system. I’ve experienced interminably long hikes after calling the bank. Provident knows that the glitches are legion. If not, why when contacting the 800 number is the first prompt “if you’re having difficulty with the online banking system... press 6”? After doing so, the wait time is so long that the only option is to hang up. This was a terrible decision to force customers to have to change all of their login info. And in my case, I’m locked out of both personal and business accounts. The only resolution is to visit a branch and waste more time to get everything in order. Shame on the institution and the limited personal who redesigned the “new” version of this app. In the end, this will prove costly. Shame on you, Provident. And please, no more rave reviews from the insiders who are defending this nonsense. It takes little intelligence to know that the inside “spin” is designed to protect the decision and keep a moderate review rating for a terribly flawed system.
Don’t know why there is a negative comment thus far. I followed the instructions on the email I received from the bank several days prior to the change over and they also mailed a letter home in advance to. I first logged in via the web then proceeded And deleted the old app installed the new one signed in and all good. I would suggest maybe an option to be able to reduce the font size because logging in the accounts an amounts are super big and I fee anyone standing nearby can see your info. Just a suggestion.
Not sure why other people are complaining. They sent out a paper in the mail maybe 3 weeks ago, and I got notice thru email that this would be happening. Both of which came with simple instructions on how to access and change the password of your account. Also, this app looks so much nicer than the last one. Great job, their service never ceases to amaze me! Edit- I’m not a minion from the bank. I’m someone who knows how to read emails and mail carefully. Stop blaming your stupidity on the bank
Clearly folks making negative remarks did not see, or did not read, the numerous announcements sent by Provident in email, texts and on paper long in advance of this change. Announcements were clear about anticipated downtime and included instructions to log into the new app on Tuesday. Using the instructions provided I was able to seamlessly access my accounts easily. Great job and kudos to the Provident staff for great and timely advance communications. 😀
I’ve used the old app for a decent amount of time and I really see a difference now. The old one was definitely limited but simple. This new one is still very easy to use and has a little bit more features which is even better. I see a few bad reviews in regards to login in, you guys need to carefully read the email they sent us in regards to your new password!
Makes 0 sense why you can’t update your existing app and why you have to shut down all online banking. Why can’t I get in logging on with my computer. That should have nothing to do with the app and if it does you should have rolled the upgrades out separately so we can access one when the other is down. Now It says my account doesn’t exist online or on the app and I waited over an hour with your horrible customer service line only to never speak with a person and am still waiting for a call back. What a joke. Chase or Bank of America would never be this dysfunctional
I used the first provident bank app, and it was okay, but I don’t understand who thought a smart idea is to shut that app off with very little warning, and release a new one, instead of JUST UPDATING THE OLD APP! It’s stupid. No thought went into this process. My login credentials won’t work on this new app and I can’t even ask them for help because they made the genius decision to force you out of the old app on the weekend, days before the change is scheduled. Now, since I shut my card off to be safe, I have NO access to my money in the bank. None whatsoever. This bank has inconvenienced me before and I’m quite frankly getting tired of it.
Is not enough with what’s going on with covid 19 that I’ve been trying for more than a month to log on in my account an updated would have been enough. Is ridiculous that is so hard to log on. They should step up the game at the bank aja at least hace an atm that you can deposit money on the cars the same day
I am a highly satisfied customer of The Provident Bank for over 20 years! There was adequate time when they notified me with paperwork for the timeline of the new app installation. The transition was very smooth and easy. Everything worked and still does as advertised! Great job and I will continue banking with The Provident!!!! Thank you!
I received multiple emails and letters in the mail (starting a month before it was set to occur) about online banking being shut down while they upgraded everything and each one had instructions on what to do and how to log in once the system came back online. Great communication to warn us ahead of time.
Received a letter in the mail and even got an email with clear instructions on how to get back in to my account. New app is MUCH better than the old one it even has Zelle! Sounds like people just don’t know how to read. Oh well you know what they say, “You can’t fix stupid.”
This is the last time this bank gets away with some garbage like this. The branch, the people on the phone. All nasty people. Unless they think you’re interested in a mortgage loan lol they are you best friend of course. Clifton NJ branch they used to have this wonderful girl there and I believe she’s gone. Everyone is smug and doesn’t take responsibility for their terrible system. The app has always had issues and this one is just a mess altogether. It’s 2020 and I believe they went cheap on the app design. Well they are going to pay for it as I’m closing my account with them for good. Never again
Love provident bank! Although it was a small pain to be locked out of online banking over the weekend it was not the end of the world. I still had access to my accounts by simply calling the main number. They did a great job making us be prepared for this ! Anyone who complained probably never read their emails or letters that got sent out.
I love the fact that the bank wants to upgrade the app. I am a very technology driven guy and the fact that the bank is taking these steps to start getting to the level of the big banks is really important. Although the system was down for a few days great job! I absolutely love it!
Despite multiple attempts to change my password I could not complete the process & I got locked out. Customer Service tried to reactivate for m eIn an addition to multiple security questions I then had to wait for a voice command on my phone and press one to confirm the process. Their system will not accept my entry of press 1 over myiPhone to complete the process. I was on the phone three times with Customer Service about this and still could not do it. I am going back to Paper statements
The people who are calling this app terrible are the same people who don’t have the capability to read. I’ve received two e-mails explaining the change being done to the online banking app, as well as a physical letter. The e-mail I’ve received is literally step-by-step. I love that we have Zelle as a new addition.
I like the simplicity of the app. It does what I need and nothing that I don’t. It is terribly slow though. I consistently get emails from the companies that I pay bills to that they are paid, but it takes the app sometimes days to show it posted. So there may be a significant difference in what my account shows and what is actually there. It’s a good way to get jammed up or bounce a check.
An update that was much needed after the buggy app that Provident used to have. Love the addition of the widget, Apple Watch app and Zelle. I don’t understand the negative reviews. The bank contacted everyone via mail and email weeks before hand that this would happen and provided instructions for logging in.
I have been a customer of SB1 bank is now Providence Bank. about 5 years. This app makes it easier than going to the bank it or waiting for a bank statement. When you can just look online. That’s the best way to go
Provident Bank alerted all of the app users that this would be happening while a ago in a email. In that email they told you how to use the new app so stop complaining and read the app works fine.
As long as you follow the directions the email said, logging in was a breeze and there’s so many cool new features that actually make the app useful... my favorite is now being able to lock your card when it’s lost. good job prov
All of a sudden I can’t deposit checks electronically, I take picture after picture, and it says check must be paid to a name of an account user, very frustrating, so now I use an ally account and it accepts the checks immediately.
I’ve been a provident bank customer for 10+ years and they continue to proceed and disappoint with extremely outdated technology. The app barely works and constantly shows unavailable when I need to use it. The layout of the app and website feels like they are still in the early 2000’s when it comes to technology. I am seriously considering on changing banks in the upcoming months because of this issue.
The earlier app was simple and it worked, this is just a mess. It has poor UX, and just looks so dated. It’s confusing because you prioritize available balance over current balance. Hard to tell what’s going on in there. Truly don’t get why you guys went through such a drastic redesign when what you were doing before was more than enough for a bank your size. (And I’m sorry to say this but your site is a mess too)
Most comments here don't understand that Provident switched providers and thus needed the new app. Read the communications and if you're having issues its user error. Its 2020 educate yourself.
It is very convenient with lots of fraud protection, plus you can set the transaction limit alert so won’t have to worry about fraud. Good Mobil app for small bank
I don’t know why they decided to update the mobile deposit but you have to sit and rotate your phone until it eventually connects and the camera turns on which is absolutely annoying. It was perfectly fine the way it was and now they made it extremely difficult to deposit a check.
I open a new account and still until this date I have not able to set up my bill pay or zelle because they are having technical problems. I called several times and my problem still not resolved. Will closing the account soon
Made it more difficult to deposit checks over the phone. Says check date is not current (it is), not made payable to signor on account (it is) and check amount doesn’t match (it does). No way to put it through manually. No way to dispute these inaccuracies. Now I have to make a trip to the bank for something that should easily be done over the phone
I had the old app and they randomly shut down the whole app and made me lose access to my banka ccount for 5 days. the person who wrote “great communication” must be someone working for provident because there was absolutely no warning. Beyond dissapointed in the bank and in how this situation is being handled. This could have been a simple update not a whole new app. Looking for another bank ...
Poor rollout and now have to use a complicated password under the disguise of security. Phone or computer cant save it so logging in is difficult as well as random outages Wasn’t broke before so not sure why they tried to “fix” it. Been with the bank for years but considering leaving due to the complexity of checking on my own accounts.
I haven’t been able to access my account for days and this new app still isn’t allowing me to log in. I keep trying to send myself emails or texts to reset my password so I can get in but none of those emails/texts are going through. I’ve always had problems with Provident Bank mobile app...
This bank is the worst, they locked my account for multiple log in attempts which was an error on their part, then they give me a number to a customer support and the number DOESNT exist, I am giddy right now because I am going to the bank today to close my account with them and I suggest you all do the same
The app would be more efficient if there was a (quick review) of accounts tab. This would allow customers to view the accounts without logging into the account.
The manager. Liliana is very helpful always, Halina , one of the tellers is the best, I go to her all the time. All the other tellers are always readily willing to help and all are extremely friendly. Piano Ma’am
I tried to update my address through the app and tried to go to Settings -> My Settings and the app crashed. Also Bill Pay says there are technical difficulties so it isn’t available at this time.
On any newer iPhone when you go to take the picture it just goes blurry and asks you to rotate. This is on multiple devices. Turned off and back on. Removed and re downloaded. It’s been months with no fix. Epic fail
