I like the app because I can get a clear quick view on how much we’re saving each year and what we’ll be deducting from our state taxes. I also like that I can increase the monthly deposits right from the app. It’s simple and intuitive. So many financial apps don’t nail that elegant simplicity and create friction and frustration instead, out of touch with the core functions users need and want. So kudos to the team who designed this app.
I really like the Vanguard funds used, very low fees and good historical performance. However, the app is missing basic features like, what is my account’s yield performance in % for the month/year/5 years etc. If I have multiple accounts, how do their yield %s compare and what is my overall yield over multiple time horizons? What is the AA of each fund I invest in? Can I compare my current fund performance to others available in NYSaves? If I have an end goal amount, am I on track to reach it? I understand this is not a day trading app, but a little more sophistication is needed to give it 4-5 stars.
We have found Georgia’s 529 Plan meets all of our needs. We have grandchildren in Georgia, Arizona and New York. Their website and mobile app are easy to use and on the occasions that I’ve needed assistance the representatives have always been knowledgeable and polite. We also like that Georgia increased its tax credit to $8,000 per student per year.
Functional, but always can be improved for the investor
I’d like to see some more index fund options; Nasdaq 100, Russell 2000, etc. Perhaps even some 2x or 3x leveraged index funds. Also, it would be great to be able to see the daily change (increase/decrease) of the balance. Overall, many investment options are available, however options are too conservative for most education savings timeframe. Any savings with horizon of 5 years or more need to be invested in a pure stock fund, preferably a broad based index fund. Unfortunately, less than a handful of these fund options are available.
Over the last 3 years I have invested $41,500 for our daughter. While my personal portfolio, and the market in general has steadily risen, this 529 account for her has LOST $1000. I called today to inquire. The first representative disconnected me and the second representative put me on hold for 12 minutes and came back only to tell me that he could not tell me, or send me, information regarding expenses to this account. He told me he couldn't hear me and hung up as well. If you're looking for transparency in investing, this is not the place. We will begin looking for other college investment options for our four-year-old. Berkshire Hathaway is certainly a better option.
The app is fine and works well. My suggestion is minor. I only keep my most used apps on my Home Screen. The rest I leave stored in the iOS App Library. I can never remember this app’s name. When I search for it on my phone I always try ‘529’ and ‘MOST’ because those are the names I associate with my Missouri 529. I don’t know how search works in iOS, but please either add ‘529’ to the app title (i.e., Ready Save 529) or add it as keywords that iOS can associate with it in the smart search.
This app allows easy access and browsing of the status of the 529 plan, we use it frequently. I recommend having this app just for the ease of use. With that said, the functionality is bit more limited than what we’d like, as an example we can see the performance of the investments but cannot change/modify durations such as 1 year versus 5 years etc, thus I’m giving it 4 stars.
The application is generally nice to use. I like being able to track my child’s funds for college. My main request would be to have better understanding of what the funds are invested in and the performance of the different funds over time. Currently the information available is not as informational to assist in making proper decision on how to change the risk strategy for each child.
It’s nice to finally have an app for our 529 account, but one of my big frustrations with the web portal has always been how difficult it is to find detailed information about investment performance and to make changes. This app is even less useful. Really the only actions you can take are to add money to your account and check the account balance. It has a chart telling overall performance, but no way to check performance of individual investments, re-balance investments or do anything else.
This app’s functioning makes it easy for any average parent concerned about saving for their children’s college expenses to invest monthly! You don’t need to hire a professional financial planner and pay fees and expenses, the app will walk you though the process. It will find you investments based on your children’s age and your investment goals and will set deposits based on what you can afford
The returns aren’t stellar. But you do have some choices which is great. If you want to be conservative we have options. The tax benefit is undeniable, at least for the time being. If you’re trying to get by like we are every little bit helps. The automatic deductions are exactly as described. You can also make additional ones very easily. I have had no problems at all. I recommend this service.
Functionality of app is great. Can see multiple accounts quickly. Easy to see performance and asset allocation. Very easy to make a one time contribution, small denominations by debiting a bank account. This is an added feature in conjunction to the full website. Very good work!
I have three grand children and if I want to make a contribution I have it set up to be taken out of my checking account. I just click on the one child that I want to contribute and click on which bank account I want and boom it’s done. Thank you for making it all so simple!
I was skeptic at first, very happy to say first off, the fact I’m leaving a review (positive one) in itself which I rarely do in general, the app is very easy to navigate, user friendly and not at all complicated, when handling apps especially with funds involved, simplicity is key, which the app provides thoroughly
I wish there were a way to handle multiple children’s accounts. The way the app is set up it seems to only access one account and no way to see more than one account? Please add a feature to list multiple accounts for families with more than one child! This also helps relatives who want to donate as well I think? Otherwise, a handy app and thank you!
This app allows me to easily access our children's college accounts. We can easily move funds, add funds, or change our investment portfolio. I couldn’t be happier with it and would highly recommend it to others.
I only need to find this app a few times a year, and I can never find it. I search for “529”, nope. I search for “NY Saves”, nope. I search for “save”, nope. So I then I give up, log into the website, and just do what I need to do from there. What’s the point in having an app if I can never find it. “READYSAVE” is not a name that comes to mind when I need to access my kids 529 account.
This app has an option for recurring payments but you can only choose monthly or quarterly, which doesn’t work for most people who want to put in every two weeks when they get paid. Other than that it seems to function ok. Just very frustrating to have to remember to go in to the app every two weeks
Good app but needs to tell us when relatives contribute
We have had a good experience, but the developers need to create alerts that a relative/friend has contributed to our kids’ accounts. It’s embarassing that we don’t thank them when they contribute…because we don’t know that they do. Can someone please work this out? Thank you!
Works like a charm. I love how it immediately shows you your balance on the first screen (before I had to click through a bunch to get to the bottom line numbers). Depositing additional money is a breeze too.
The app has been a great way for me to watch the funds grow over time, and to add extra money whenever I was able to supplement the automatic transfer I already had. However, now that I am needing to withdraw money to pay tuition, I have to go to the website because the app only lets you give money, not take any out. It’s not very useful to me at all anymore, and I’m confused why you don’t allow withdrawals.
It would be nice if this app would allow you to login and track all of your 529 accounts from states that used this. For example, if you started a 529 in one state, moved to another, and opened a 529 in a second state, or third, whatever it may be, to see all of those states simultaneously would be valuable. Right now it’s setup so you can only see information from one state at a time.
should be a baseline expectation to see the % growth performance so you can benchmark performance against other 529 plans or at least an index. As well… the password doesn’t seem to save in the apple keychain and the Face ID login works ‘sometimes’… requiring you to either use a simple easy to break password OR continually reset the password. This is barely an app folks…
The path2college app is easy to use. I am able to initiate transactions without any issues. Authentication through FaceId is a convenient feature that doesn’t need multiple verifications. Wish they named it as Path2college and not 529
I have two kids and I’m able to easily track each kids savings. You can see yearly contributions and look back each year prior. Elcould be a little easier to understand for the common investor.
Great app that makes it easy to get quick info at a glance (like overall earnings). However, it's a bit of a letdown that we can't see the individual UGift contributions (especially when family members ask if their contributions made it into the correct account).
The app would be great IF we were notified WHEN and WHO contributed/gifted to my child’s account. The ACH gift isn’t posted until several days later, and when it is, it doesn’t show WHO made the gift. I don’t know who to thank and it’s awkward to ask someone if they made a contribution.
With kids you have 1000 things always going on. Contributing to their college fund shouldn’t be a difficult task. This app makes it quick and easy to schedule reoccurring payments or sent the occasional gift contribution to the college fund.
Worst name ever. Impossible to find the app every month on my phone. Search “529”, “college”, “save”… none of them gives me the app on my iphone. I have to scroll through dozens of apps to find “readysave”.
This app does everything I would expect. It’s built in a way that is easy to navigate. It’s informative and clean so that i believe everyone can track their investments and reach their goals
I’m so glad my kiddo’s 529 is on this app. This app populated all my information with ease upon logging in. I found it easy to navigate, update my information, as well make additional contributions and change my monthly contributions.
Makes log in easier and I would expect it to be safer through the app than in a browser. Anyway, nice to have it on my phone so I can check in on it easily and quickly.
Everything about TIAA-CREF’s 529 plans assumes your beneficiaries are little kids. Think about it—all the marketing images, the program write-ups, and now this app with its ability to make contributions but not withdrawals. Give them more money and they make more money. They lose money when you make withdrawals, so let’s not make that convenient.
The app makes it very easy to setup your contribution method, investment choices, automatic contributions, and one time contributions. Whenever our kiddos get birthday/holiday money we contribute that same amount to their 529 in less than a minute.
I’ve been a member of the Oklahoma Credit Union for a number of years. Over that time, I have found OKCU to be responsive and courteous at all times. They make it convenient to do business and offer great services
I love that I can see monthly progress. It’s easy to switch between accounts. I would like to request a column to be added under the individual investments section to show the gain/loss per stock. This way it’s easier to see how much of an increase each stock is doing. If it’s decreasing, I could then decide to alter where I put additional funds.
It’s easy to use. Makes it easy to contribute. I wished I looked it up much earlier. I had these accts for years, but haven’t added any funds since my kids baptism. This site makes it easy to add to and monitor the accts.
Lack of transparency and no data provided but the basic?
I am uncertain if it just this 529 plan or the whole industry. But the lack of information on the performance on this account is outrageous. It lacks the basic information a normal investor would need to know why it's performing like it is or if even keeping up with the standard bench marks. My advice to anyone is to avoid the 529 plans. The lack of transparency and lack of metrics is warning enough to stay away!!
The 529 savings plan for my kids is a wonderful tool to help save money for my kids college. It is a very easy app to navigate and I love all of the options for investing. I highly recommend 529 to anyone with kids!
We have been getting some gifts to the 529 we started for our son since he just had his birthday. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t allow us to see who sent the gifts, so we can’t thank those people for their contributions…
Simple to use and provides information easily. Easy to use and provides insights about how I’m doing compared to similar users. Overall great design and well laid out.
I love this app because of the plain language and easy-to-use interface. Financials can be hard to wrap your head around and this app makes it easy to save, plan and contribute.
I love this app but it could be better. I would love to know who the gifts are from. It still doesn’t say so and I hate having to guess and reach out to ask.
Good functionality, but our savings history and performance was completely removed from last changeover. Now I have your algo telling me I need to start saving more for my kids. Maybe I missed the performance history feature coming, but erasing the last 15 years of savings activity and growth is pointless.
Attempted to add to 529 on app and the money did not appear on the account or removed from my bank account for days so I thought it did not go through. Attempted a couple more times, same thing. So I tried through the website. All deposits started showing up now and ended up over draft in my bank account.
I really appreciate the change in app structure and the different investment options. Personally we’ve turned our investment in MESP into more than 40% return these last 10 yrs!
The app is fine but it’s missing a lot of features from the full website and that’s disappointing. The app has its purpose and it does it well just wish I didn’t need to login to the site for other features or data that is available from there.
