Let’s leave it at “it’s getting there”
I have a Red Sea 650 Peninsula, all Apex controlled. The only reason why I use the ReefBeat app is to control the Reefmat what replaced my horrible Coralvue rollers. To be quite frank, if Neptune systems came out with a roller to compete with Red Sea, I probably would have bought it, because I like the atmosphere of Apex Control. What I have found is that the Reefmat is currently the best roller in the market, hands down. The app does help me monitor usage and if it gets stuck. I had connectivity issues when setting it up, but it did eventually connect to my network. I chocked that up to having a dual band mesh network, while I’m sure that the Reefmat only accepts 2.4ghz, like almost all smart home devices. The only issues that I have with the app so far have been that I have yet to receive an actual notification about the mat becoming jammed, or there being a software update available for it. It will show up within the app, but I have never received a push notification on my iPhone 13. Also, I only state that I would like notifications about updates because the Reefmat has received around 4 since I purchased mine in May. I always want it to be up to date, so I would like to get notified when an update is available. For the developers: - Work on notifications, Top priority - Work on connectivity issues, or provide more information about errors when they occur All in all, I’ll update this review when the issues have been solved!

App
The app layout is nice and easy, but I’ve found the amount of time it takes to seea setting example after a change is made or something saved takes forever. Also, when you run the setting under play there is nothing that shows what time it is when the light is running through the setting. I’m sure it’s me but I am still having a hard time dialing in a setting that looks as crisp as my AI Prime light. I can’t find any setting examples online to help with this. I’m attracted to the idea of the 23k blue setting but want to know if I can make adjustments to maximize visual stimulation while still getting maximum coral growth.

Garbage design
I am so frustrated right now. I have a red sea skimmer, two reefmats, and a reefwave 45 which I have owned for about a month. The skimmer has shut down once already with a jammed pump error, but nothing jamming it. Both skimmers say they are jammed. The left one and the wave both have “no connectivity “ errors. Try running a no connectivity search on google or red sea’s web site and see if you get anything relevant. Nope. I have watched the setup videos and read all the trouble shooting and FAQs that I can get my hands on. No help at all. I thought I would start the reefmat install all over again but reefbeat says it is already installed. So I tried to uninstall it but there’s supposed to be three dots by the device on device manager that you simply click and then remove the device. Great, except there is no three dot button. I bought these to save me time but they clearly need a lot of work before they are ready to be sold to the public.

Hopefully you didn’t buy reefled or reefwave
The app is straight garbage. Nothing but connectivity issues. After you load the app and wait a completely unreasonable amount of time for it to update, it might give you the status of your devices. Maybe. If you then try to interface with the device via the app, the app will tell you the device is disconnected. RedSea will have you reset the device either by power cycle, removing the CR battery in the device, or even going through the set up process again. From the beginning... even if you do that and manage to get everything reprogrammed (devices have to be on and “connected” to edit), as soon as you want to look at the status or basically use the app in any of the intended ways, you’re back to having your devices disconnected. If you have the time, you can continue to reload the app until it works for a moment. It will never work as intended, or have any kind of stability. If you manage to get a program saved and running then never ever want to change it, then it will be 100% stable. I’ll never purchase anything RedSea again. I own two useless reefleds and reefwaves respectively. I wish I would’ve spent this money on an apex controller, basic t5 bank, and a few cheap power heads. I’d have much happier pets instead of stressed likely dying ones.

Customer service & support
Every adjective you can think of to describe how good the red sea products look and functionality of the product; however want it comes to technical support and customer service its the worst. You can’t get anyone on the phone, and when you to get tech support via email, the crap they want to verify to send a email ( name, phone# where you bought it, what date you bought it, time, date just send email, why stop there, ask for your social Security, passport, mothers, maiden name, and two photo ID, I bought a Red Sea 170 g2, it came with ATO, later on it bought a Red Sea filter mat, downloaded the app, every time you want to the app, you have to setting, to Wi-Fi and select product, and you for every product, even though both products are on the app, you see both products at the time, but access without getting out app and go to Wi-Fi and select the other product,

Poorly Architected Garbage
As apps go, this one’s amateur hour. Out of the gate the app lists minimum password requirements. What it doesn’t tell you is if you create a reasonably secure password, say sixteen characters, you’ll receive an invalid password error. It’s not until you shorted the password to some predetermined and undisclosed insecure length that you can save the password. Want to name your tank using Proper Case? Ha! Nope, your leading character can be in upper case but every other letter will be lower case. Why? Who knows, but they burned payroll implementing that design decision. Finally, if you live in a country that likes to adjust its clocks twice a year, all aboard the nostalgia train. Remember how much fun you used to have running around and resetting your clocks twice a year? Red Sea does, and they’re bringing that experience into the 21st century. Yep, you’ll be toggling a DST switch within the app running in your $1,000 cellphone twice a year.

Reefdose 4 Fail
I bought the reefdose when it first launched and what I thought would be an amazing product has been proven to be a bad investment all the way around. The app Constantly glitches and fails to load. The reefdose is constantly disconnecting itself from wifi and stops dosing which is a HUGE problem because I mean…that’s what it’s designed to do. The platform/software is just a mess and seems like all the same bugs and issues have been there since day one. When I have to reconnect the dosing pump back to ReefBeat I always end up having to delete the device and readd it which takes at least an hour. The app freezes on either adding the device or connecting to wifi and it just becomes a revolving door at that point and constantly starting over. Just so disappointed. (BTW, We have extremely fast and strong wifi throughout the house)

Terrible App. Great light.
The light is wonderful, unfortunately it relies on the app to work. I’ve had it for 3 years. In this time I’ve never been able to get it to connect to my home network. Annoying but still doable since I could still control the light in direct mode. But now after this new update I had to go through the tedious setup again except this time it will not let me edit the time or intensity of the light spectrums for my program. The only thing I can do is slide the first and last points back and for to change the on/off time. For the he other points nothing happens at all when I tap the edit buttons. I’ve searched everywhere for a workaround or I for on if they changed how to set the points but nothing. I honestly think I’m just going to give up and go get a different light. This is ridiculous.

It’s okay at best, Please Integrate with Neptune Apex
Your app is okay at best, frustrating is more accurate. How many places are there to change settings? 5+? Why can’t I just edit my programs in a normal way? I have to act like I’m adding a new program to find the edit button. The date time setting is in the aquarium settings, no where else. That was fun to find when my schedules didn’t work. To say all that, I don’t want you to fix your app. I want you to integrate with Neptune Apex like eco tech has. I want to control my reefwave from my apex, and I’m willing to make my future powerhead purchases based on that integration alone. By the way I had to write this review in my notes app, your app wouldn’t show me any text as I typed. Icing on the cake.

Good idea, poor execution
This is a great concept however it’s clear RedSea hasn’t allocated necessary resources to its engineering teams. The app is SUPER buggy. I’ve had the app for a couple of months now, and it crashes every single time I use it. Also, competitor apps make it a lot easier to update device settings and schedules. It’s not impossible to accomplish in this app however it’s quite clunky. It may work better on the iPad however it needs improvement for iPhone - particularly given the fact that it often freezes or crashes when performing these tasks. I think this definitely has potential; however, it has a long way to go

Red Sea (Red Sea Group)
I’m new to red Sea and your product, even though I have been into the saltwater hobby for more than 15 years. Recently I purchased your Red Sea Reefmat 250 and with the assistance of your technical support (Ashlee Erickson) was up and running in minutes. this product has taken away some of the daily chores I was dealing with to keep my Aquarium clean. My communications with your support team (Red, Sea Group Support) has opened up my eyes and opinions of your company and your product. All I can say is thanks.

Light is great but app needs a little work
The new Red Sea ReefLed 90 takes the guesswork out of lighting with lights that only are in the reef spectrum so you don’t need to worry about burning out your corals. Although the light itself is great the app to run it has a few kinks to work out. The light itself has blues, whites and moonlights and is recessed up in the body so it doesn’t glare in your face. The app lets you set up a schedule and go from 3 presets to a custom set up. All of this is great but the initial setup had some misfires. It would blank out your aquarium name when you tried to move to the next step while creating and then not let you proceed until the name was there. After 4 or 5 of these it went through. Then it presets to mountain time and wouldn’t let you change it. Also it’s a little slow to react to changes you set in the lighting and you have to wait a bit to see how it looks. All of this will hopefully work out in firmware updates. Overall it’s great and I look forward to seeing what else they do with it. Maybe some programs with thunder and lightning storms that sync to your wave makers. :)

The ReefBeat app does not give you many options and I don’t really care for the app or the design. However I will say the Red Sea light and wave maker are well made. The design of both are heavy duty and they work well. I had trouble when the app logged me out and would not reconnect me and my light was out for almost 8 hours but I was able to finally fix it with out the help of the app. Equipment awsome four stars for sure the app two stars. That’s why you get three from me. Make the app more user friendly and less complicated.

Reef beat is difficult to navigate
This program is awful. The lights are beautiful but running them is a nightmare. Trying to set times causes errors with sunrise and sunset and there’s no place to override it. Try to turn the lights on? Have to use the app but it only works occasionally. Changing lights from one tank to another requires completely deleting it and gong through the setup... and setup is finicky. Nothing is intuitive. Why can’t I just drag program points instead of having to edit? I created programs but have to go through hoops getting it to work on other aquariums. Getting to network settings is difficult. Please hire a person with skills at user interfaces.

Nothing but Frustrations!
Nothing but frustrations when it comes to trying to connect the ReefMat to WIFI. Once installed it took more than 2 days to connect to WiFi. No clue what I did differently to get it to connect but it did. 5 weeks later I go to change my first roll and unfortunately the WiFi connection was disabled. I’ve literally spent the last 10 hours on and off trying to reconnect to WiFi without success. When u read other reviews it seems most others experience the exact same issue. All other RedSea products connect to WiFi very easily. Help me understand why the ReefMat is different. Very much hate this product right now….

Terrible App
How is it 2022, and this app performs like it’s 2009…. Even the “Rate me” button in the settings section glitches! The light itself is amazing, but it took me 7 times and 30 minutes just to pair the app to the internet - and even then, you have to be connected to the wifi in order to make any changes - so why not just make it Bluetooth?! If I can’t change settings from across the city, state, or country, what’s the point of a wifi connection? Even when I’m home the app sync doesn’t always work and I’m left with no option to adjust settings. For what we pay for the lights, this app should be significantly better than it is.

Suggestions
Hello, can you try to make the app more user friendly? For example be able to rename pump names. Be able to simply turn lights on or off instead of having to got device settings. When I go to turn on lights, the graph seems very intimidating and cumbersome. I see a lot of icons on the app no names on them. Thank you for looking into this.

Red Sea led 90.
Too often this app freezes for no reason Lights looks and does amazing with an excellent response by the corals. The app is absolutely trash which is why it deserves a single star. The app continues to crash prohibiting me from making any adjustments to my light schedule etc. I also use AI prime and clearly they should take something from them as I have never had any connection issues or not had the ability to adjust my lights when or how I wanted. I don’t think it worth that 300+ price tag that it’s associated with. To be such a predominate force in Reef keeping, Red Sea needs to do much better.

Very much a work in progress
2 reef led 90 lights. Continuously lose connection. Then one will randomly get it back with no intervention from me. Then they both lose it. Hard resets, soft resets, delete lights, delete aquarium, delete and reinstall app. Did it all. They keep updating the app for the reefwave (which is good) but they still have far too many issues with the lights alone. Join the fb group and you will see. The lights themselves seem good but i just cant get them to work for more than ~3 days without then having to spend an hour messing with them and the app. Big thumbs down as of today march 13.

Horrible app; leads to malfunctioning light
This ridiculously expensive lighting system should provide a better method of operation than this poor quality app! Aside from a very basic power button and indicator light, this system can only be accessed via this app. I’ve had my tank for around 6 months and the light has gone down hard 4 times. It’s down now, and I keep getting instructed to delete and reinstall the app as the tech support solution. The last time, I actually had to physically dismantle the light and access the battery in order to kickstart it. I am beyond frustrated.

Landscape option?
The app works well once connected. I wished there was a way to have it communicate locally before it accesses the cloud. It seems to slow down the start up process. Additionally, it would be great if there was a landscape display option. I would love to set up a tablet in landscape (instead of portrait only) mode next to the tank.

The only thing worse than the software is the support
The software app is buggy to say very least. Because the sensor is rarely advanced the mat I tried to use the manual advanced feature. Even if I sent them at advance to 8 inches it always reverts back to 1.2 even though it’s told me it saved it. It’s terrible. The equipment hardware, however, seems decent as long as you’re willing to work around these issues, and actually depress the button every morning to force it to advance.

Setup issues with multiple devices
I have 2 Reef LED 50 lights for one tank. Setting up the left side was okay, but setting on the one on the right was almost impossible! I had to use my spouse’s phone to connect the second device. Also, whenever the power goes out due to a storm, you have to do the setup all over again!

The app is horrible.
Use the products old school. No idea why they want to advertise the app so much with so many connectivity problems. I would hope they fixed it but looking at these reviews and reef2reef I’m not the only one having these problems. Really frustrating considering I’ve dumped 1000$ into pumps from them. Probably try to avoid the brand until they can spend some of the money they’re practically stealing from us at this point.

Device works well and the app is fine. The problem that I have is that every time I open the app on my iPhone it asks me to upgrade the firmware. That fine except that the firmware update fails every single time. When will there be an update to the app that allows the firmware update to work?

Nothing but problems.
This app gives me nothing but problems. If you change the settings many times it’ll completely stop reporting. Today for instance I started the feed mode and now it won’t come back on. So I reset the unit and am trying to reconnect. It won’t update the software so it fails and boots you. This is one of MANY issues. I work for and internet provider and I provision our equipment, this is not a user error. Sick of this.

Or with ReefDose. How about it automatically knows when to dose Red Sea products like ABC to minimize precipitation?

Garbage App
The fact that in order to use most of the Redsea equipment you need to connect to an app, you would think the app would be gold. Far from the case. Nothing works. Things take hours of constant attempts of connecting to finally talk to the app, adding the gear to your wifi network has less chance than winning the lotto, and all the videos the support page links you to are out of date. Great tanks, garbage equipment.

Latest update broke App
Your latest update broke your app. Entering credentials and attempting login crashes the app back to the home screen. Also, ridiculous that I need to create a login to use this app locally. I shouldn’t need a web account for that...so make an option that completely decouples the app from any login when wanting to run it completely within our own network. Improve your app or I will sell this garbage and go back to AI...

Very bad app and terrible support
Everything about this app is bad. My entire home is hooked up to different brands of smart technology and I have never had an issue connecting. Great app with some bugs
The app is great, feature rich with a nice graphic display. But when you open your device in the app it doesn’t always show your current light intensity without exiting and returning. This has got to be the biggest disappointment in my aquarium experience. I’ve waited so long to get this tank and can’t get the lights to work. The app is not user friendly and after several attempts to contact Red Sea and their new self service customer care, with the assurance of “getting back to you within 24 hours” is a joke. My light lost internet connection. I’ve tried reconnecting it with offline mode but no use. I deleted my aquarium and tried to start over. The font does not appear, leaving you to guess what information it wants about your tank as you enter your data. Mediocre app, but some value + amazing hardware!
The app has some great features and others are somewhat archaic (e.g., inability to delete notifications, lack of user control with respect to notifications - I want to be notified on multiple devices). On the bright side, I have peace of mind knowing all critical parameters are tracked real-time from the app and the app allows remote user control (e.g., manual top-up of automatic top-up sensor fails) when away.
