I love this app because it enables me to deposit checks I receive instantly without driving to the bank. I also love the ability to check all my accounts any time I wish with the touch of a finger. Sometimes though it has issues capturing the image of the back of the check accurately and displaying an error message about the size of the back image isn't the same as the size of the front one, which results in me closing out the app and restarting it after several failed attempts. I've kinda gotten used to it however annoying it is...
I usually do everything from banking to paying bills through the rcu app. When paying my mortgage I have the option of making a regular payment or just a principal payment which is GREAT being that I tend to pay more than just the minimum payment on my loans but when it comes to my auto loans the principal payment option isn’t available...why?!? I have to drive out of my way to an RCU branch just to be able to make my payment as well as add the rest of my payment to the principal amount. Please make an update allowing principal payments to auto/recreational vehicle loans on the app so that I don’t have to drive 13 miles out of my way to go to a branch in a town that I otherwise don’t ever go to. I dread having to go to the bank so when I don’t have to I use the app for everything else and is awesome! If the principal option is added to auto/recreational vehicle loans I would give 5 stars to this app and even more if possible!
I get a lot of checks and have a pretty good system down for depositing checks. But lately y’all are telling me the from and back of the check aren’t the same size. Folks, I don’t move my phone or my check from the little cradle I’ve built for this. When I try to manually take a picture, it doesn’t focus. And other times, it gives me an image that looks like there was a picture at one point, but then one side was digitally squeezed to a point and everything is distorted. It shouldn’t take me 15 minutes to deposit a check. It has taken me such a long time to deposit checks that I built a cradle for my phone. But now you’ve managed to make that not enough. Now I have to take the time out to write this review because I hope I can reach out to someone and let them know that this is a problem.
This app is fine. For the most part it does the same things as higher institutions. However, some tab functions are very rudimentary in design and usability. Take for example “reconciliation”. A simple checkbox takes time to process and load after each selection. This is slow, grating, and not necessary with todays coding options. Additionally, there is no simple filter functionality, color distinction, nor ability to default your common billing account. A user should be able to filter out the checked and focus on the outstanding. There should also be the ability to adjust and balance. This is just one area of the app where advancement in expertise is needed to have a product with services that are forward enough to accommodate todays better educated end users instead of wasting their time causing frustration.
No option to pay loan from an external account on the app
It’s kind of ridiculous how there is no option within the app to pay your car loan from an external account. You literally have to go to the desktop website to pay your loan. Like what’s the point of even having the app if you can’t make a payment on it. They also make it super confusing as to how you pay your loan - if you hit pay loan it just takes you to the page that transfers from a royal account if you have one. You can’t transfer from an external account or pay with an external card on the page it takes you to when you hit “pay loan” which is pretty stupid and completely unintuitive. I would avoid royal in general - they have pretty subpar customer service and tech support in my opinion.
I deposit about 6 checks at the beginning of each month. The picture for the back of the check seemed to be a lot more difficult to capture and be “acceptable”. Even though it had a clean copy of the back and endorsement it continued to say retake the image on every check multiple times per check.
I love the ease of use, tools and features that make my busy life easier. Mobile check deposit and automatic transfers are very helpful to me. I also like being able to pull transaction reports by account for my business. Makes tax season a breeze.
The app works great and is easy to use. My only concern is the check deposit feature. Front of the check captures just fine, but when I get to the back of the check photo the image capture goes entirely haywire. On average I would say I am forced to retake the picture about 20 times. I’ve tried changing lighting and background and neither seem to help the situation.
This app for RCU works great and does everything you need including transferring money between accounts and depositing checks remotely. It would be nice if you could also access all the information on the website, such as interest rates.
I have been with RCU for years and love that they work so hard for their members. Developing this great app is just one way they took action on making a better banking experience. The app is intuitive and allows me to never have to walk into a branch location. Now there just needs to be a way for the app to deposit cash!
RCU App is easy to use and I love the sense of security it gives me when I’m able to check my accounts anywhere at anytime. Also nice to make payments, deposit money and transfer money to other accounts wherever I maybe!
I use this app daily and it is very convenient, however, lately I’ve been receiving “try again later” responses almost every day. I use this app to manage money and view my balance and have stopped using a manual log. Not being able to check my balance gets very frustrating. Again, it’s a fantastic app when it’s working properly.
No matter what I need, they are there to help me. Even even when it’s a half hour before closing. The Colby branch employs a great group of ladies. They may not know you the first time but on your 2nd visit, they greet you by name.
The update made mobile deposit even worse. It was awful before and not it’s barely useable. Every check I deposit gets flagged for review because it says it’s possibly missing payee, date, amount, and signature. They’re all crystal clear on the check. Its such a pain. RCU as a whole is amazing but I’m considering switching banks just because of how bad the app is.
RCU App is well done!👍🏼 Easy to find & negotiate all applications of the app. So easy to pull up accounts with a thumb print. Check balances, check deposits & set up auto payments. That way, I’m out the door🚪... To work,🚸 shopping, 🛍 or just out to have fun🎉🤩.
This app is great for anybody who is on the go, and just needs to know what’s in the bank account or just needs to transfer some money to make a payment, etc. I’m a single guy who filters everything he makes through this app and Credit Union. I couldn’t be more happy with their service and friendliness.
The changes RCU has made to this app over the years have made my life so much easier! I can easily pay bills, deposit checks, and check balances on-the-go whenever I need to. This app is just another one of the reasons I love being an RCU customer!
Royal Credit Union is wonderful and a BIG improvement over traditional banks. When I phone them, someone actually picks up the call and assists. They are very helpful. Please open a west suburban branch (west of the Edina branch). Keep up the good work!
But lately it takes forever to load, won’t sign me in, I often have to shut the app down and restart it to get any result. Hoping future updates improve the app I use it often!
It works. It connects to a separate Fiserv platform for credit card payments. The buttons for credit card payments, statements, and rewards often do not work. I haven’t been able to see a CC statement on the app. I’m okay that RCU has a very basic app, because they have the lowest rates around.
RCU app has everything I need in a banking app: check balances, transfer funds, pay bills, deposit checks and even check my FICO score and reorder checks! Easy to navigate and secure access on my iPhone with fingerprint. LOVE this app!
I’ve had an account with RCU for over a decade. I am consistently surprised and pleased at the service I have always received here. The app has always worked great with no glitches. A fantastic credit union with a fantastic app.

I love this!!! I used to have to drive to deposit my checks, which is tough sometimes because I live about 40 minutes from my bank. This app is wonderful!!!
I have multiple accounts and asked to be notified if any are about to be charged fees for inactivity. “This is not allowed” is what I’m told. This is also very poor customer service.
I love my Royal app. I can quickly check balances make transfers and keep track of all four of my kids spending!!! Bill payment is a breeze! The app continues to be improved and appreciate that!
I like how easy this app is to use. It also gives valuable feedback to your actions, to prevent error, without seeming like there are too many steps in a given process.
RCU is wonderful, and this app is by far the best financial app I have ever used. I can do almost anything I would need to go to a bank for right from my phone, and transactions take effect immediately.
I have had my account for several months now and I love it!!! I can get in my account daily to see how much money I have!!! Thanks guys you’re the best!!!
I would recommend if possible to be able to transfer personal RCU account money to that RCU member's external accounts via phone app to improve the app.
I have been a member of RCU member for so long that I can’t remember what year it was that I first started. They have helped me secure car loans , home loans, and always with a welcome smile. There is no way I would consider a bank. I am an RCU member for life. Larry Heagle
The new check capture is AWFUL. I’ve been mobile depositing checks since this technology became available, and this latest version is unusable. I’m going to have to physically go to the bank to deposit my checks… which is ridiculous. I’ve been a RCU member for 25 years and if this isn’t improved quickly I’ll be switching banks.
I keep getting application errors when I go to open the app and then when it does finally sign me in it just says that it is unable to display my accounts at this time. Very frustrating. Love the bank but the app only works half the time.
RCU’s feature to my checking account to automatically transfer money from my savings to checking without charging a fee is outstanding. Often my family doesn’t cash my checks right away. The automatic transfer of funds lets me earn interest money. Fabulous bank with helpful, friendly staff! Thank you so much for all you do!👊
