Please develop this more!!! So much potential for organizing the family
Everyone loves the basic concept and features. It’s a great start but take it to the next level. I’m disappointed that the note taking and such has been removed from the mobile version and there’s no family hub app with separate profiles. My kids and I were really looking forward to that. We use shared calendars as a family. I’m happy I can sync my Google calendar but as another user said, I would really love to meal plan sitting down or in the car or wherever I can from my mobile device. At least the shopping list is available in the mobile. Just think that many things that can be communicated amongst family members should be shared on both the appliance and on a mobile device. Memos, To-Do lists, chore charts, etc. partner with other app developers if needed. This hub has the potential to replace the family information center by allowing the user to be very detailed in all aspects and while there will be users that don’t use half the features there are many of us that will.
We’ve had it for a week now and we are very happy with it. Touch screen is a lot of fun. Three most useful features are the to do list, shopping list and the calendar sync with our phones. Weather app needs to be updated and not having sports in the morning brief is criminal! When it comes to recognizing food the expiration dates it gives don’t make a lot of sense all the time and it’s kind of a hassle to have to log all your food into the fridge so we probably won’t use it. I hope more apps get included down the road to allow us to get more use out of this and make us have a reason to purchase more Samsung products down the road.
The mobile app is useful for uploading photos to the fridge, and I can imagine the lists would be useful for some families, but I can’t believe the meal planner functionality isn’t available in the mobile app. I don’t want to have to stand at the fridge to type in our meals for the week. It would be easier to go back to the old school approach of writing it down somewhere in the kitchen. Since I order groceries from my phone, I’d like to keep my meal plans in the Family Hub app so I don’t have to transfer the information for the family to see. The few other tools in the mobile app are the fridge inventory feature, which is so unreliable it’s comical, and the calendar. While we’ve enjoyed the refrigerator, the app hasn’t been very useful to us. I hope they’ll add more available functions in the mobile app some day.
We love this, super easy to find my grocery list! But!!! The last two months I’ve had to delete and reinstall the app 3 times. I hate the smart things app and don’t want to use it!! I’d rather buy a different brand of fridge before I use the smart things app.
I love our new fridge and all the features. That I give 5 stars. I also love the family board, but this app has been giving me a lot of issues. For one, it runs very slow. Two, I had some cropped photos from screenshots but when I uploaded ... it only uploads full screenshot view, not my cropped view. And you can’t crop after the fact on the fridge. Three, I don’t have access to my gallery (or I haven’t found the gallery app) on the fam hub... so I have to be in front of my fridge to see if photo has been uploaded. Four, I uploaded a video and clicked to add on my family board... however it never showed up. I try to click the add video again, but now it says 1 video is max. The first video never got added so there is nothing on board showing up to delete, yet now I can’t add another video. :(
Samsung takes your money for feature and then takes away the features.
I had the fridge for about a year. It was great. One of the key features was that the kids love drawing on the screen. They don’t offer a way to share the pictures from the screen or add them to any sort of album, definitely a missed opportunity since you can only have 80 drawings. You could however use this app to view the whiteboard drawings as well as draw on the whiteboard from your phone. You still couldn’t download them or email them but you could at least screen shot them. Now they don’t support the newer software on the fridge with this app. They want you to use SmartThings which fragments all the features as well as removed half of the features. Now I can’t view the whiteboard at all. All I get it notes.
The latest update deleted our pages/ pics/ apps and returned the fridge to factory settings. It took forever to set up all the swipeable pages the first time and I’m so frustrated to have to do it again. Our family board was completely wiped and now there’s extra pages we can’t delete, including the first page after the family board, which is now some sort of cooking page nonsense. So instead of being able to immediately swipe to the apps/ features we use, they are now paaaages later. Super frustrating. Please tell people when your updates are going to wipe all out stuff/ make us have to set up the whole console again.
I bought a new Samsung fridge and want to use the Family Hub app with it. The app crashes when trying to launch. This is happening on my iPhone XS, as well as 2 other iPhones we have at the house. I called Smart Things support and they said it was an account issue with two-factor authentication. They transferred me to the accounts department. They said it’s an app issue and transferred me back to the apps department. Now, 1 hour into my call, I’m troubleshooting with the apps team who says my phone and fridge need to be on the 2.4 GHz home network to work correctly. Doesn’t seem right to me and also doesn’t explain the app crashing upon launch. The app also crashes when using cell signal. We got disconnected and she hasn’t called back.
Dear Samsung I purchased a FAMILY HUB fridge… One of the main reasons for purchasing this fridge was for the features of the FAMILY HUB. I understand that when you agree to update the software version you agree to any and all changes (sure it’s somewhere buried in that long agreement text you have to “hit agree to when you update) but I don’t think ANY one was expecting you all to essentially remove the FAMILYHUB from our FAMILYHUB fridge … Yah you “merged the features” insert rolling my eyes… but all you did was keep the feature of uploading photos … and the basic fridge controls.. also it’s like excruciatingly painfully slow “uploading” photos .. it’s ridiculous. “Software Update” you all should address this - develop it better to include these features again.. I mean the Alexa is cool but the whole point of the features I think he can hub shopping list … notes … is to be able to access it from your phone when your out doing these things you wrote down on your fridge to remember to do in the first place . Thanks FamilyHUBlessJaneDoe
Family Hub no longer works. I had to delete all of my photos off of my refrigerator to be able to do the update and after the update was finished I realized that I’m not able to upload anything unless I have a Samsung phone or tablet! I’m so mad right now that I could SCREAM! I spent $4000 on a refrigerator that I LOVED (past tense at the moment) mainly because of the scrolling pictures. You have no idea what you have taken away from me….nor do you care I’m sure. Seeing those pictures every day brought a lot of joy into my life. I had all of my family on there and especially ones that we’ve lost in the past year. I’d give you zero stars if it would let me. 🤬
It makes it easy to know what we need when we goes to the grocery store. If my husband is out getting stuff for the yard , he looks at the app and stops to get what we need. So it has really made our lives easier. Especially during COVID-19 he went daily since our grocery stores were almost empty and it hard to find a lot of stuff we needed, so him having a list on his phone was great.
Same as others here. Refrigerator updated and now I have to use the SmartThings app which has 25% of the functionality. It’s slow, buggy, and is missing even the most basic features. It can’t even upload more than one photo at a time. Worse, it uploads the photos in a warped aspect ratio that makes my family look super fat and short. Hahahaha. This app is a joke and the fact that Samsung is forcing me to use a pile of junk vs the family hub app that actually worked well, is infuriating. Please allow us to use this app until you get the smartthings app fixed.
Listen, the concept is cool but just go ahead and make it a usable tablet like any other tablet. Get the apps I want to get not a set limit, use it just as a tablet or iPad. No reason to be so limited. People have so many different apps they use to plan life with and having to learn an app that doesn’t communicate well with others is a pain. Just let it be open for use and likability with existing platforms. It’s always sucked to be so limited on app choice.
I’m on an IOS device and connecting to the Family Hub is such a hard experience. It started working fine and i was able to upload photos and add them onto the screen along with memos and reminders but now when you go into the app nothing works and tells me to use Smart Things which doesn’t do the same things Family Hub does and does not control any of the same things Family Hub did but there’s still a Family Hub option back?? reinstalled the app and installed again and with the same issue.
I bought the fridge just for this screen and to stay connected with my family when traveling for work. Then the August 2021 update came and eliminated my ability to drop photos and notes and grocery list updates using my app and having them show up on the screen. Even when I’m home it doesn’t work right with the app now. So disappointed. Wrote into them on FB but they just sent me links to troubleshooting that didn’t help. Hoping they actually read this post and fix things that they ruined.
I’m referring to the update for the actual fridge itself. I’ve never in my life experienced such a bad software update. The new functionality is so un-user friendly, I don’t know what kind of team came up with it but they should be fired. Nothing works and the home screen has a terrible layout. You can change it but none of them are good. Go back to the old version! We’ve trying updating all of the apps and restarting it but half of the apps work about 50% of the time. And they’re SO slow. The previous version was nothing like this.
Though a little slow, it is great to have all my fridge info just a few clicks away. No longer have to make shopping list...as long as I remember to update my needs on the shopping list, and love having multiple list options for “whatever”. My grandkids love taking pics and uploading for the ongoing slide show at Grandpaw and grandma’ house....,😎
This app has become obsolete and left my smart fridge without a working alternative. It seems as though ever since I upgraded my iPhone software to iOS 13, the app no longer works. It stays in the cycle of “Gathering family information..." and then comes back with "Unable to connect to server. Check your network connection and try again." It stays in that loop and never allows me to log in, even though there is nothing wrong with my WiFi connection. I can no longer upload new photos or anything else to my smart fridge.
Communication between phone and fridge I suppose are the root of frustration with this app. I have uploaded photos 4 times, appearing successful on the phone, but when I go to the message center to add a photo the stock photo strangers are the only choices given. I want to see MY family, on MY fridge, in MY kitchen, in MY house. Also, in-fridge camera will only update if you access from fridge touchscreen. If I have to get that close to the refrigerator to get a picture I might as well open the door. Using iOS 14 and will not buy a Samsung phone in order to use this app.
We have had this new refrigerator for 5 days and live it so far including this app and smart things app. The only down side so far is that you cannot download any afoot so apps. The only apps available are the ones that are preinstalled. Hope that will change soon. Thanks
This update is a rather large step backwards. The only app we used on a daily basis was the calendar app and now there are limited views and you cannot view the fridge calendar unless you are AT the fridge whereas before you could check it with the Family Hub app which is no longer working due to them moving over to Smart Things. Hopefully, the developer(s) will add improvements to what is currently available in Smart Things because a LOT of functionality was lost in this UPGRADE.?
A nice idea but the shopping list created and updated on the refrigerator does not always reflect on phone. I recently made updates to shopping list and then went to the store only to notice updated list did not sync with phone. Very frustrating as I should’ve just used the traditional pen and paper because I ended up forgetting to purchase some items
Love this app especially for the shopping list. Only downside is that there is no option to print the shopping list. My son is doing our grocery shopping during this pandemic and I have to type the list out for him. Please add a print option! Thanks!
Have had one for >6 mos. w/out a hiccup. It was easy to set up and add to home network, after which it’s accessible virtually anywhere. We have a a list for each store/vendor that we frequent, which makes it surprisingly handy. Highly recommend!
We bought this refrigerator in January of 2021. The refrigerator is NOT working anymore. It’s not cooling in regular fridge and freezer. The service center that can send a tech is going to take 8 days !!!!! We have a baby at home. I have breast milk going bad, and our food is betting spoiled. To make things worse the service center doesn’t work on the weekends. I am pregnant and now I’m stressed out with this issue. I feel like I need to contact the better business bureau and file a formal complaint and also file a civil law suit. I’m tired of Calling everyday and see if someone can come sooner. I’m stressed and sadden to see my breast milk going to waste. We have a pup at home that had surgery and we have to give him medication and special food that needs to be refrigerated. I wouldn’t recommend this fridge or customer service to anyone .
Another horrible update - August 2024 I don’t know who is making the decisions to remove the most useful apps but they should be demoted to the mailroom. The new widgets are useless and there is no integration between my phone and fridge. First you took my calendar view now I have to keep a separate calendar. Now you took my ToDo list so I have to find something else. Maybe I’ll just stick with paper since Samsung seems to be making despise this fridge. Original review I despise the new update. The calendar feature only shows the current day instead of the prior week view. The weekly smaller menu and shopping list is gone. I can’t update the notes or to do list within the app. Whoever designed this obviously never used the fridge for a busy family.
I’d love to see the available space to list food items expand. I really want to take advantage of the recipes based on what you have - but it is difficult when only 150 spaces are available to list items. I use nearly all of that with spices, herbs, and other cooking necessities. HOW CAN WE MAKE THIS BETTER? - Can we link to a cloud storage so the features are more useful?? - Can we offload apps we don’t use?? I want to love this fridge. I really do. But it really feels like the thing is still in a Beta phase. I am also constantly in a cycle of my Family Hub app is not syncing to the fridge. It is frustrating to constantly have to reinstall the app simply to see a CURRENT VIEW of what is in my fridge. Samsung, what can be done to fix this once and for all??
Family Hub is soooo convenient. My family & I are able to add items needed to the shopping list on the refrigerator or our cell phones. Im able to access that list while Im in the store to assure I don’t forget anything.
I’ve been waiting for years for this application to be updated to work with my original Family Hub. It was working and then it seems like with an update now it’s not working again! Can you please fix it so it works with the original version of Family Hub again to upload pictures and other aspects is made my very expensive Family Hub refrigerator useless Update. Working for now!
Just got our new Samsung refrigerator and love it. The Smart Thing app works great with my iPhone, but this family hub app is horrible. I can do what I need to get done on the main screen on the refrigerator, but no matter how hard I try, there is no way to get past the log in screen on this app. I am given the option of either logging out or “show me how” which sends me into an infinite loop of logging out and logging in again on the refrigerator.
Had everything finally the way we wanted (took an afternoon) and then it said it had an update to do and all of the set up we had done was gone. All the photos, the themes (which I can’t find at all now), the wifi connection. Everything had to be redone and I can’t find everything to change it back. Can’t there be an auto save something so this crap doesn’t happen?
When this first came out it had basic functionality but over the months and years they are adding more tools. We use it for shopping lists and it syncs well to the Samsung refrigerator. The Whiteboard is also a nice way to send notes. The recipes are also a nice benefit
The Fridge and app are good so far. Right away I am wanting to be able to edit photo placement on the family board from the app and can’t seem to. I’ll be updating this review as we use both more. Possibly to 5 stars if I could edit the family board from my iPhone. Thanks!
This fridge is the greatest thing ever!!! Bought it on sale otherwise I wouldn’t have it do to price point but knowing what I know now I would have purchased it anyway. No more forgetting what’s on the grocery list, you can just peak in. Love love love this fridge. Highly recommended.
So frustrated. One of the appeals of the refrigerator was the way it would link to our Google calendar. We’ve had no luck getting it to sync and have tried every troubleshooting step in every help article out there. I’ve emailed numerous times with no reply and when I try to click on the “app help” it tells me I cannot access the page. I have no idea how to get support to fix this problem.
Love my fridge but recently having issues with uploading
As the title states I’m now having issues uploading photo and / or Video. App just freezes and crashes. Have tried deleting and reinstalling and no dice.
Seriously, what went wrong? How can a company be on top of the world and literally collapse and any and everything… it doesn’t matter which product, they’re all junk now, full of bugs, zero innovation, horrible UX, shove advertisements down your throat, and cheaply made. It’s sad as I used to be an extremely loyal consumer, but I’ve purchased my last Samsung product ever. I wish you the best.
Everything about this app is great except the fact that the app freezes and will not allow you to upload videos and it will not allow you to take a pic. When you do try to upload a pic you cannot access your different photo albums you have to go through your gallery from the newest pic up. I recommend they fix the issue with the video uploading and the camera and also allowing the photo gallery access the different albums This app freezes! I see you have added albums but I cannot open it nor can I switch to video The video feature does not work The app freezes when u try to upload pics The app will not upload pics!!!
I think it’s pretty difficult to move around in the app and find what you are looking for. Some of the features are nice, like the calendar. Overall the interface has a lot of room for improvement.
Is this not compatible with iPhone? I was able to download app and connect it on screen but when I try to upload a photo it says it’s uploaded but when I check there’s nothing there and on top of that, instructions aren’t helpful because the app looks completely different than what it’s telling me. FRUSTRATING.
Was forced to delete all my pictures off of my fridge to do the update once I did it took me to SmartThings and on SmartThings I can only upload one picture at a time. How ridiculous why do you make a update worse than what it was before that makes no sense this needs to be worked on or my refrigerator was a waste of $3000 for that feature
Thanks for spoiling a great thing. Total bait and switch. We bought the fridge for the ability to make it a literal family hub. Two weeks later, your update removed all the best functionalities like multiple profiles. My son could upload pics and messages for his mom from college. That was a big deal. Y’all ruined it. I feel like I was conned.
This was working until a recent update pushed to the fridge. Now I can connect my iPhone X. App goes to “gathering family information” spins for a while then says it can’t connect to the server. Both cell and wifi are on on the iPhone and fully functioning. Highly disappointed that I cant use the features of this expensive fridge because an app doesn't work.
Do not buy a Samsung Smart Hub refrigerator. They just updated the software to Rel 6.0 and are deprecating the Smart Hub App making the refrigerator an expensive appliance with no integration with the Smart Hub app except to tell you the refrigerator temperature or how many times the door is opened or closed via a separate Home Assistant competitive application that is intended to communicate with multi-Samsung devices.
I used the grocery list all the time for everything. Since the last update it quit working and none of my grocery lists work. I am really annoyed that you ruined such a functional feature. And as long as I’m annoyed - The ice machine stopped working!
At first this app worked with my refig now that they have upgraded the app all of a sudden it no longer works and I can’t upload current pictures to the refig or change certain things. What’s the purpose of the upgrade if we can no longer use it once it get pass 6.0 upgrade. Disappointed!!!!
App doesn’t work with updated software and SmartThings lack tons of features
This App doesn’t work anymore with the updated refrigerator software and redirects you to use SmartThings app, but that one lack tons of features that this had. Samsung please bring the other features to the SmartThings app or revive this app, we are loosing functionality and fun that is there!
Without question, a horribly developed app, completely useless for the purposes of a key appliance in your kitchen. One of the great missed opportunity flubs of the modern tech era. Turns a great lcd panel into a worthless piece of glass. After the first week of putting photo’s up, you will ignore it, since it has not real value. This company put their dumb as dirt team on its development and it shows!
The Samsung Family Hub app now works only on Family Hub refrigerators with TIZEN 4.0 Software version and below. For Samsung Family Hub refrigerators that operate on TIZEN 6.0 Software version and above, the Family Hub app will no longer be supported. Please download and use the SmartThings app instead. - Features like uploading pictures and videos can be found within the Family Hub device card - Food related features like View Inside, Recipe Recommendation, Meal Planner, Shopping List, and Food List can be found within the SmartThings Cooking Service (The Software version can be found on your Family Hub from Settings > About Family Hub> Software version > TIZEN 6.0) The following permissions are required for the app service. For optional permissions, the default functionality of the service is turned on, but not allowed. [Required Access Permission] - Contacts: Registered Samsung Account information will be used to provide services that require account linking [Optional Access Permission] - Microphone: Needed to record voice for Memo and Whiteboard - Storage: Required to provide cloud-connected features for sharing photos and videos
