Only one slight flaw for a perfect app
The only issue I have and suggestion for this app I have is: there’s never any notice ahead for any maintenance for when the app or the webpage will be down. If they would give us an e-mail or text or even an inbox message in the app, say a day or two before scheduled maintenance or maybe even 12 hours before. That way users would know if they’d be able to access their account information or not at the time. I know with me being a independent contractor and traveling a lot for work and sometimes for fun. It’s very convenient for me to have access 24/7 to my banking stuff. The rare occasions I have logged in maybe only three times out of using the app since 2017, have I experienced being kicked out of the app due a scheduled maintenance that was set for the time I happened to log on and couldn’t figure out why. So if you can add notifications for system maintenance or for down time a head of time when applicable, it make it a bit easier. I also love how I can deposit checks electronically. The app is well organized, easy to use. As well is really great having the chat with agent, chat box. As well as some useful tools and tips I never knew was offered on here. Keep up the great work.

WHY? WHY did you fine it necessary to change something that was working?
This experience has been a nightmare. Firstly, I was forced into this update because I couldn’t log on to my account as before. Then, I have to put in my login ID of which would not be accepted because I probably got one of my digits wrong. I’m 74 years old and function much better by good habits developed and I saved my login so I could save time when I check on my accounts, but your app doesn’t give a way to change your login ID. I waited on the phone for 30 min. To talk to a representative and no one responded. This is poor service and I am seriously thinking of changing banks. I have been with South State since it was originally First Federal and my parents were customers before me for decades. Please revise this service.

Date and time
Only been using the app for a few minutes so I can’t say much but there are a few things that I picked up on immediately. Number one, the layout and design isn’t great compared to the centerstate app. The centerstate app had everything you needed in one spot so it was very convenient and easy to navigate. This app is still pretty easy to navigate I guess but I can’t understand why they wouldn’t stick to the simple layout that they had before instead of complicating things. Also, it’s ugly. Looks cluttered and not as organized as the centerstate app was. But that isn’t a huge issue for me. What IS a huge issue is the lack of date and time on transactions. I’m hoping that this is just some type of glitch or one of the kinks theyll have to work out since the app is new?? Because I know d*mn well they couldn’t have possibly thought that getting rid of the ability to see the date and time of a transaction was a good idea. No one in their right mind would take that feature away. It’s important for obvious reasons that we get to see when exactly our money is coming in and going out. I REALLY hope this is fixed soon.

Not reliable
I’ve had this app for a long time now and I’m finally fed up enough to make a review about it. I have no issues loading up the app or logging in but what I do have issues with is the app can’t handle so many daily charges. My transactions will be completely out of order and some will pop up even though the purchase was made over a week in advance. It tells me the amount of money I have left after a charge but it’s not accurate at all. Yesterday it put all of my charges from 3 days prior to yesterdays purchase. There was about 16 pending charges and they were all out of order than what they were purchased in. For example. If a couple of days ago I made a target purchase for 15 dollars and was left with 200 in my account, it’ll say I made the purchase today and then say I’m left with 350 or something like that. This then leads to me not making any purchases in fear that I will overdraft my account. Even if I get a receipt out of the bank in person it will not have my updated remaining balance so I have no clue how much money is ACTUALLY in my account

Honestly Pretty Good
I’m new to SouthState (coming over from CenterState, and coming over from NBC before that). From NBC to CenterState the app got worse. Fortunately this appears to be an improvement. The design of the app looks nice, which is great given CenterState’s app was doggone ugly. My inner web designer is happy. Most of the app is still basically a glorified webview, so the way you navigate around isn’t particular fluid or intuitive. There is currently one tab bar and two slide-over menus, one on each side. Just having one of those three should be sufficient. What I do really like is the “financial tools” feature, which they seem to have bought from a vendor, but it’s really integrated well. In particular I like being able to assign categories and custom descriptions to my transactions so I can see exactly what it is without having to guess what “CRYPTIC MERCHANT NAME HERE” is. Not strictly essential functionality, but cool to see them thinking out of the box.

The Worst App and Service Imaginable
I have never written a review for an app before this, but I felt the need to warn others. I’ve been a customer with SSB for over 9 years (before they were ever SSB). This app interface and accompanying service is so convoluted and unnecessary. It’s infuriating. To make transfers you have to use a third party called Zelle, but that frequently doesn’t work. So for anything other than a few dollars here and there you will need to call your branch and set up a transfer through your bank. BUT WAIT! It gets better! Those transactions that you have to run through your bank will not show up on your app ledger for 3-6 days. The total balance will be correct, but you will have no record of it. So it just looks like your account is losing money for no reason. I’ve had to start using PAPER to keep track of my accounts. Good luck trying to schedule recurring payments between two SSB account holders. I am going to leave this bank. They used to be run efficiently, but it looks like they were bought out by someone who has no idea how run a financial institution.

Not user friendly-too difficult to find items
I love South State Bank and it’s employees in Trinity Florida, but the app is very difficult to use compared to many others I have used. You should consider having a menu bar where you could add your frequent access points without wading through two or three other steps to get there. For instance, bill pay is quite tedious; for instance, one should be able to go into bill, pay to pay a bill or manage bill payees; or view bill activity, where you would see scheduled, on its way, completed easily denoted. Also, if I have set up one bill to pay immediately, but want to set up automatic bill pay in the future, it is very difficult to see the one to pay immediately, causing me to have to delete everything and start over. Someone should take a look at the Chase Bank. And it’s he’s in navigating through bill pay and other items. Thank you for listening

Not good
I do not like this new app. I can not log in to my online banking no matter what I try. I stayed on the phone with a customer Rep for 2 hours trying to unlock my account, 10 attempts later using codes South State provided me and the customer rep on the phone telling me exactly what to do we still could not unlock my account, I never gained access to my account. 4 days later my account is still locked and no one at South State can understand why or how.. Stop with the changes, I’m older and I don’t like change like a million other middle aged customers. You have our money you should have our back when it comes to solving a tec issue. I’m very unhappy because South State doesn’t know how to fix the problem and no one from SSB has tried contacting me to at the issue fixed .. on top of that trying to get someone on the phone is useless the automated service is no help and runs you in circles just to finally hang up or get placed on hold for hours. COVID will not let me have access to inside the bank .. so I’m just stuck having to call to basically get nowhere.

Messages about failed attempts on Account
Attention South State Bank Thank you for the notifications. My Son-in-law Donald L. Schroeder was setting me up on my cell phone to be able to check & balance my South State Bank Checking Account. Since he and my daughter Sarah A. Schroeder (who is also authorized on both my Checking & Savings Accounts) both bank at South State, too, and since they help me with ALL of my business, they told me it would be much easier and safer than using my very old computer. Being 79 years old all technology is extremely difficult!!! They were right!!! It is easier and from your informative messages I just discovered, I totally agree with them that it’s much safer!!! App doesn’t always work properly
This banking app nearly never reflects your actual account balance due to the fact that it doesn’t upload each individual debit from each retailer or website. The dates of service are hardly ever correct and I often find debts that were paid many days prior are dated to one of the following days. I addition to the balance not being correct, the app is worked on, or banking system goes down at least once a week and is highly aggravating as well as inconvenient. Yes apps have to update and things must change from time to time but an entire weekend of it being shut down is quite ridiculous. 24 hours should be enough for one week of updating changes. App could be improved but not take days at a time to complete it. Other than that the app is easily maneuverable and consistent with others.

I have nothing but praise for my bank,South State Bank, located in Ormond Beach, FL. They have a variety of locations and it does not matter how much money you have in your accounts, you are treated with utmost respect and it’s ALWAYS an experience that makes me feel better as I walk out . I’ve never had one problem and I’ve been with South State Bank for over 12 years . It feels very good to be appreciated and I am honored to be a South State Bank account holder. Just so glad that the transition that y’all had made from CenterState to South State was a very easy transition that I was very concerned about but I’m glad it went through so smoothly. The app that I have on my phone to be able to observe and look at it any given time on my app through SouthState Bank is awesome thank you so very much I’m very happy that I am still a part of your business. One other concern that I am so glad to know is that I am still able as a business owner and I am old school that I still have the opportunity to be able to go into the bank office and still be able to have that one on one contact with people at the branches.

SouthState Bank = Great customer service
I was banking with a smaller town's bank in South Georgia when it got bought out by a bigger bank in Savannah then by SouthState. I feared I would lose the hometown touch. I was wrong! Then I moved to Upstate SC a few years ago and to my delight found a branch here! Wow! The team in Seneca, SC are amazingly professional and friendly. They know my name when I walk in and quickly assist me with any questions or concerns I have and I can't bragg in my bank enough. I have both personal and commercial accounts and have had loans and credit lines and all products they service are handled with utmost care and attention to detail.

Give it a chance
A lot of people in the review section seem like they are scared of change. South State seems to be making very large improvements in terms of tools available to the user. The new app seems very fluid once you get the hang of it, and they help you sort, manage, and track expenses in your accounts. It includes features such as calculators to plan paying off your credit card as well as other features I haven’t tested. I’ve considered leaving South State, but this app really proves they are making steps in the right direction. If you are used to technology I would definitely recommend giving this app a shot.

Room For Improvement
Occasionally there are some difficulties logging in. Also, once or twice a month there seems to be a problem with deposits made over the weekend not showing up in transactions for a couple of days even though the account balance indicates they were made. There is usually a message alerting you to this difficulty. Finally, the auto capture for check deposits doesn’t work on my iPad and I have to capture the picture manually after several tries since it doesn’t allow you to select capture manually initially. However, this function seems to work fine on my iPhone. Overall it’s functional and adequate, but not nearly as stable performance as Bank of America’s app.

Mobile deposit continues to fail
I used this app for over a year and it worked very well, so convenient. Then mobile deposits stopped going through, saying the check I tried to deposit had already had been. The chat is worthless; they hang up on you as soon as they know they can’t help. Calling 1-800 ends with “You’ll have to go to your bank in person”. It took several calls to get someone to even believe my mobile deposit failed saying “I don’t even see where you’ve deposited a check”. I said that’s because I can’t deposit a check, and they couldn’t see where a failed deposit transaction occurred. Finally after many calls, “There’s nothing we can do, you have to come in to the bank” You advertise this service, yet the service does not work. You cannot or do not care to fix it. That’s not good business.

Can’t use bill pay function
The bill pay function always returns an internal error message. Phone support first told me the app couldn’t be used on my apple 6s phone. After rereading the specs in the App Store, I found this wasn’t true. I was then told that the bill pay function was down but my phone was compatible. The function still doesn’t work after 24 hours and there isn’t an update. What good is mobile banking app that can’t pay bills. Long time customer but I’m now extremely frustrated. Need this function and if it doesn’t work I’ll have to switch banks over something every app except this can do. Update: after two hours on phone with tech support the problem was attributed to a data load error to the new system. I hesitate to change the rating pending using more app functions over time. Sounds like the tech support was one star, not necessarily the app. Time will tell.

An app facading as a web browser
I understand this new app is supposed to be a dive into a new look for south state, but it is not user friendly in the slightest. The old app didn’t have as many weird navigational tactics you had to use, with the multiple menu bars and tabs this one has. There’s 3 different main tab menus on the main banking screen, which seems very excessive considering the old app had 1 main tab menu that allowed easy access to all functions. This thing is trying to function like a web browser but it’s not, it’s an app. Apps are supposed to streamline the web browser process for phones, not do this. All things considered, I haven’t run into any tech issues so far with payments or processing. Which, beside the clunky design choices, is a good start.

HORRIBLE
Can I rate this app and bank 0 stars? If so that’s what I would give them. The app is always down…nothing catches up accordingly…everything hits at once….it takes several days for a mobile deposit check to hit. They charge random service fees….why are we paying service fees for an app that doesn't even work properly? They have taken bills out twice multiple times and thrown our account negative and take at LEAST 24 hours to correct it. If you don’t have any other source of finances your screwed because you can’t buy anything in that 24 hours. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this bank or app nor have I ever had a pleasant experience with it. We are switching banks ASAP when we receive our tax return. I would not recommend this bank or app to anyone. It’s been nothing but a hassle.

I love the app. Very easy to use..Everything I have is drafted; so I love just making sure. My billfold was stolen earlier this year. I rarely carry checks but, this time I did and SouthState said I should close my account and get a new debit card and open a new checking account All of of these actions took place on the phone dur the night before and the next day in the office. I really thought I would not get anything fixed so fast. My branch is on Hwy 17 in Surfside Beach. Just wonderful staff all around. This branch should be recognized .They’re great! Mary Lynn Castles

Love the app
I love the app. I do however wish that when you send notice of a debit that it would show the amount in the text like Centerstate did instead of having to open up my account. It is not always convenient to get to my account. If you include the amount it would eliminate the necessity to get into my account. If the amount were listed I would always know if it was mine. Please take a page from Centerstate and go back to that feature. Other than that I am very pleased with the change. Thank you.

The old center state bank was better…
EDIT Update: The app works fine and I’m able to do pretty everything I need to do. No, not all options transferred from Center State Bank, but I’m fine with the app. I haven’t had any issues and anything I’m looking for I’m this season is there. PREVIOUS RATING: The new south state merger with center state is absolutely awful! All the things I loved about center state have changed through south state. I’m not sure I’m going to stay with this bank, especially if I’m not longer receiving the wonderful benefits that drew me to become a center state bank customer. I’m EXTREMELY disappointed.

Reasonably good app
I’m getting used to this app. It still takes me somewhere I didn’t intend to go at times, and I can’t get back to where I was because I don’t know how I got there! I’ll get there eventually. This app is quite frustrating! I’m old school and balance my account against my checkbook every few days. It seems that your balance has entries that don’t show, so balancing is impossible! Entries are not processed in a timely manner. They often ate spent is very difficult don’t appear for 2 - 3 days, making identifying the actual entry hard to identify! Please fix these issues!!

One issue
Most of the time lately I have to clear out the open app on my phone and click on it again and it will open and do Face ID. Where as it used to not make me take that step. The rest is awesome. This problem seems to not happen anymore. I got to the app and it Face ID’s me and I’m in the account without having to close the previously opened south state app. Thanks. Love it I wish we didn’t have to wait till after midnight to see what has come through as checks debits and deposits.

Terrible
I was randomly locked out of my account more than once for putting in my password incorrectly. Even though it was the first time I tried to login. Even though the password is saved on both my phone and laptop and I never have to actually type it in. Spent two days trying to contact someone at customer service and on the second day I got someone after being on hold for almost 40 minutes. I really hate that they did away with receiving deposit/withdrawal/balance checking via text. That was so much more convenient.

Works well
The app itself works well. It keeps accurate count of my money, telling me where every cent is spent. When I go past what I had in my account it charges me $35 as an overdraft fee, which I don’t understand, if I don’t have the money I need for the transaction why would the bank think I have another $35 hanging around somewhere? Also, as I have another account with the bank, why not just take the money from that account that the first account needs, thereby stopping an overdraft?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the App!! It is so convenient to be able to just get on and check your balance and see your transactions almost immediately. I used to have the App years ago and got a new phone and didn’t have it. Boy what a mistake. I would have to call the Customer Service automated line to get whatever I was looking for and sometimes it would be a few days before I could hear what I was needing to know. Now it’s at the touch of a finger, keeping me informed so easily. If you don’t have the App…. GET IT!!

They gave me an account when no one else would
I had my identity and bank accounts stolen almost a decade ago. Because of me being young and not knowing how to handle it I ended up with overdrawn accounts that were eventually closed. Not a single bank would give me an account. Then I found South State and there second chance account has tremendously improved my life. This was the last piece of my financial puzzle and now thanks to their awesome loan officers I will be a homeowner this year!!!!!!! SOUTH STATE IS THE BEST!!

Too much system maintenance!!
I’ve been with this bank for over 10 years and the larger they grow the more they lose that hometown feeling that I looked for! As far as this app goes they are constantly doing system maintenance which interrupts transaction real time data and more-it’s cause my account to look as I’ve been in the negative thousands of dollars and more. It seems almost twice a month for entire weekends it’s unavailable due to these system maintenance/updates/upgrades. I liked the original app and it worked well!! Stop trying to grow when you can’t get things right and don’t forget where you started-serving smaller communities!!!

Keep the momentum going…
This banking app is an improvement over the last and the latest debit card controls is helpful, especially if your card is compromised. Now just add the ability to update card information with merchants when the card is reissued. My debit card expired in Dec and I am still going through the process of updating it everywhere. Having a service to assist with that would make this banking app even better!

App needs a major update
I have been using this app for at least 6 months and have had the same reoccurring issue which has literally cost me money. The app updates on some super weird system and rarely shows the correct amount in my bank account. Multiple times my account will show that I have more money in the account that I actually do. It won’t show the correct amount until days after a transaction sometimes. It has cost me over $70 in overdraft fees that could had been avoided had the app updated correctly. Like at least pending transactions?? Will be changing banks because of this issue. Doesn’t work for young 20 somethings like myself who can’t always cover the overdraft.

Furious & considering switching banks
Every since The new update I have had issues with transaction not showing up therefore causing my account to be in the Negative. And I don’t even have overdraft protection so any transaction made with my debit or credit card should be declined but that’s not the case! For example I transferred $20 from my personal account to my joint account, bought $10 gas from the joint account on April 18 and its now April20 and those transactions are nowhere to be found (like they never existed) they should at least be showing up under transactions and pending!! This is so frustrating and causing a lot of unnecessary problems with mine and my boyfriends accounts. Especially our joint account together!

Best banking site around
When my branch of Centerstate closed and moved out to the flagship location, I switched banks to a much closer bank. Their online banking was so very confusing, and was drawn out like nothing I’ve ever seen before. You couldn’t go just from Bill patent billpay you had to go from page to page to pay one bill. I switched all my money back to South State and that is where it’s going to stay. You have an amazing online baking system thank you very much! Rebecca W Reeves

This has been the best experience I’ve had with online banking. Just wish you all had more information on credit reports on here. It would mean a lot to be able to see credit scores through the app. But other than that. It’s a great app and very informative. Thank you for your awesome works on keeping the app up and running. Also would like to know more about business loans and 401k+ information. Thank you

3 Loans and the online banking system.
I have now done three loans with SouthState Bank with great success. In doing so, I needed a checking and savings account. After the first month with all loans in action and 30 days of mobile banking under my belt I can say that iss a great experience. Connecting other banks for a full view of my finances, check deposits, easy transfers. Solid bank that works with their customers and also has a great mobile application for ease of use banking.

a new problem every week
i’ve been using this app since they started it, and i think i’ve yet to go more than 2 weeks without there being a glaring issue- including being unable to actually see the money in your account. often, it will revert to the amount you had 1-4 days prior, with 0 indications that it’s doing that- leaving you with only a rough idea of what money you SHOULD have. as of right now, it’s telling me what i had this morning. i don’t know how much money i have. the quick balance feature hasn’t worked in weeks now and they haven’t addressed why at all. switching to chime permanently. they don’t have fees to open an account nor do they have overdraft fees anyway.

They have awesome security steps to ensure safety, better than my old bank. The people are friendly and go the extra mile to help you with your needs. I like the simplicity of the bank accounts , no fees with e statements, good locations. I also refinanced my car with them and got a great rate , lowered my payment. The online banking is really laid out nice , so it’s simple to navigate around. I like the way it’s set up. Good job so far SouthState.

The app is fine. However, recurring deposits into my checking account from another bank takes 3-5 days to register in my account. All my other accounts that have recurring payments register within 2 days. I realize this may not be an app issue but I felt that those who have recurring bank deposits from another bank going into South State Bank checking accounts take longer than going there in person and depositing funds into your checking account.

Great for a first card but need some work
I want to say that because of the lack of easy access to information is the only reason the ratings so low. There are great bank to work with and have very quick response times. I also like the app but this is where my main issues lie. For one, finding you’re routing and account number took me Forever though after asking how to locate it, the process was tedious but manageable. As far as verifying the account on Zelle, it’s an absolute mess. Confusion on how to solve this issue without being told your app “isn’t available in this region”, must be a lucky glitch for some. I’ve also had trouble with the online check deposits at times though it could’ve been from a lack of an update on my part. Overall the bugs are something that should be considered when using a mobile app, but the banking itself is very trustworthy and convenient for those looking for an easy bank account to start.

Very well done. Only one issue I have is, for the second level security (text message, email, etc) when logging in with new device, there is no place to change the settings, such as email address and phone number. I can change my email address and phone number on my account, but it does not affect the second level security. And there is no menu item that I could find to do so. Even a call to the help desk did not help.

Easy to use, no login hassles, gets it done
Online banking has truly become ubiquitous in the last few years and even a smaller regional bank like South State and that only has an app, but has one that’s fast loading and easy to use. Not so much going on that you get distracted by all kinds of flashing in spinning things, just get into your banking and get out. Love it, very happy that I happen to find South State Bank.

I’ll be 50 years old this coming April and I have been with the bank since I was 16 years old. As a matter of fact, I still have the same bank account I had then. My husband has also been a member since he was 16. He still has the same account that he had when he was 16. South State Bank must be doing something right to have people stay with them that long.

The mobile app makes my banking super easy and accessible on the go! It is very user friendly and I never have any issues! I love that it allows you to transfer money from one account to another and also lets you know when they are going to be doing maintenance ahead of time! It seems weekly that some features or the entire app does not work When you get used to using electronic deposit and it freezes that’s very frustrating When the entire online banking system is down for almost a day in the middle of the holiday season and you don’t know if credit card payments have been paid it’s frustrating

iPhone SSB App
This online bank app works very customer friendly. Easy. What I like especially is the ability to quickly scroll down entries to view previous month without going thru a lot of different steps! Also like being able to connect accounts with other banks making banking transactions convenient. Only negative is the transactions could confirm alittle quicker.

Your app is one of the easiest I’ve ever seen to use it it’s pretty straightforward you don’t have to be a computer wisdom figured out it’s and you know it you know right away what’s going on with your money and you know it’s there 24 seven which makes it nice but I’ve I’ve used different banking apps over the years from different banks and this is the best one I’ve ever seen OK thank you

Easy to use
When I log in I can instantly find my balance, what charges have been made and also my credit card info. I don’t have to keep a checkbook record anymore because everything is right there for me to see and review. I also like that I can message them and get a reply without having to go through “press one for…..” on the phone. Yayyyy for SouthState!!!

Fairly easy to use - needs card #
Love app although I need better identification on transactions. Most specifically, show last four of the cards used for the transaction. Not having this makes it very difficult to find or reconcile transactions. Also, sometimes transactions do not show up right away such as transfers from checking to savings or mobile deposit (should at least show as pending).

SouthState disappointed me
Lake Alfred is growing but your bank needed to make more money so they closed Lake Alfred office and now I have 10-15 minute drive to access my accounts. I do hope you are not having problems due to poor management as this downsizing of a community bank is scary. You could at least left an ATM machine in town to give residents a bit of hope that you are not in imminent danger of collapse. Do I need to be moving my money to a more secure location?
