TL,DR: A must-have for anyone that likes word puzzles! I’ve been playing this obsessively. It is hands-down my favorite word game on the App Store. It’s simple but challenging. There are practically unlimited puzzles as well as daily puzzles. I haven’t tried it but there’s also a feature to play with others in your Wi-Fi network. The interface is very clean and intuitive. The word counter and hints are helpful when you’re stuck but they’re not so revealing that they give the answers away. The ads on the free version are not very frequent or intrusive; you even get a countdown heads-up when one is coming up soon. But I was more than happy to pay for the ad-free upgrade because I play it so much and because it’s a one-time purchase and not a subscription.
Love this game. I could see spending a lot of time on this game, as I have already, it just keeps pulling you in and wanting to fully complete the level. Would recommend this to anyone who loves word games. The only suggestion I have is i personally wish there was a level system that kept track of how many levels you’ve completed, just a way to see your progress and how many levels you’ve completed fully. Just a suggestion, but I truly love this game and will continue to play for a long time!
My husband and I play this game together and we’ve been consistently thwarted when trying to enter words that the game tells us are not words, that later appear in the answer list. A couple days ago it was “dollar”. We both tried several times to enter the word and it wouldn’t accept it. It then appeared in the list of words when we revealed the answers. Today it happened again with “fulfil”. I tried several times to enter the word only to be denied that it was a word. It then appeared in the answer list. It’s also frustrating that words like “fluidity” are accepted, when “fluidly” is nowhere in the list. I’d argue that the former is far less commonly used than the latter. Once the glitch of rejecting words from the answer list is fixed it will be a much more enjoyable game.
I love this game. I love playing the New York Times version everyday called Spelling Bee and I wanted to play more than once a day, so I found this app. The only thing I really don’t like about this app is that nearly every round includes way too many questionable “words” as solutions. Like when I play I’m essentially trying to find enough words to get to NYTs equivalent of ‘genius’ but it’s impossible to do that on this app cause I feel like they have too many words that either aren’t words, or are super abstract that not even legit geniuses would know them, potentially aren’t even in standard dictionary kinds of words. So similar to the NYT I think they need to filter some of the more abstract “words” out.
I love this game after using it for the last 3 days or so. It’s making me scrolls social media much less and keeping me challenged during down time when I’d be bored and wasting time doom scrolling. That said, I’ve played 4 games and it’s only recorded statistics for 2 of them. Sometimes when I leave the game and come back later it resumes and other times it resets completely and gives me a new set of letters without adding my (very impressive) stats from the game I had paused past the Mastermind level. For a competitive person like myself this is super disappointing but sounds like a glitch that should be fixable.
I have been enjoying this game. It is totally accessible for the blind/visually impaired. However, it seems the most recent update has some sort of sound effects/music/drums playing in the background. As a blind user I use accessibility tools such as voiceover and this background is very distracting and conflicts with my voiceover and my listening skills. Would sure love to figure out how to turn off that background feature. As I said, a terrific FUN game to play. I have the purchased version and SO VERY MUCH worth it.
-No pop up adds!! -Not limited by levels, as far as I know there is practically infinite puzzles + daily puzzles -interface options for little details purely for user preferences. -One time purchase to remove the very small banner ads at the bottom of screen. I paid the $3.17 to remove ads just because I like the app so much that I want to support the creator. :) -multiplayer option over Wi-Fi is super cool and I haven’t seen that in other apps like this. No need to make an account or sign up for anything.
This game is fun, challenging and addictive, however there are too many legitimate words that it does not recognize or accept. This makes it difficult to reach queen status. Even though it gives you the option of adding the unrecognized words to a customized list, that supposedly allows you to use these words for future games, that doesn’t always happen. Overall, it’s a good game, but the developer should really add more words to their acceptable words.
I started with the NYT spelling bee game and needed more. Found this app and it’s great. The ability to add words allows you to personalize the vocabulary to your areas of expertise. I just wish the “found words list” was alphabetized vertically in columns instead of horizontally. It’s hard to find words. At least for me. Agrarian is a word!!
This game has so much potential, and if the developer truly understood the NYT spelling bee they would charge to download the app and make their money that way, and then do everything they could to mimic the NYT app. They would have legions of happy fans and plenty of revenue to pay themselves to maintain the app. But they don’t understand the NYT spelling bee or the fans who play it. Instead they’ve employed lazy research into words, and forced ‘ad breaks’ in the middle of games. The lazy word research results in loads of nonsensical ‘words’ that aren’t found in the English dictionary, French words and archaic British English words. To make matters worse, many (many) common American English words are simply missing. The overall user experience has become one of annoyance and frustration instead of pleasure. This game has the potential to be amazing, but unfortunately the developer has missed the mark here on many counts. This game never made it out of beta. Yet this is our final option.
Great game and way cheaper than the NYT version, plus it has hints! The word list needs some work—too many unrecognized words and some words that definitely aren’t English. Nice to be able to add words, but there are some obvious words that can’t be added. Love the hint feature—would be nice to be able to get an additional hint now and then. PLEASE fix the spacing of the cells! The vertical spacing of the cells on either side is different than the rest of the spacing and it’s driving me crazy.
When I first seen this game I thought it’d be one of those you get a set bunch of letters per round and you can make as many words as possible. But the center letter having to be used really creates a challenge, and some of the reveal words don’t even look like real words used… I’ll give the app a little longer play through and see if I can improve any, but having to use the center letter in every word provides a challenge
I get pretty irritated when I can’t resume a game I’ve been playing for two days. I had 6 more words to figure out. When I went back this afternoon it only let me start a new game. Why is there no way to back to a previous game? It would be awesome to have an actual “save my game” button. This happens all the time to me. Too many words that can’t get placed, even if they’re correct. Fix this please.
There needs to be a flag, label, warning sign when you enter a perfectly good word, but—oops!—it doesn’t contain the center letter. Otherwise, the player thinks that the word isn’t in the dictionary and gets irate, and writes a review grumping about the app not accepting perfectly good words, and then realizes later just what was happening, and has to re-write the review. Not that this happened to me, oh no. Really. I’ve done this two or three times, and just having a note flash up saying “Word does not contain center letter”, and keep flashing it if you try it again, would be really helpful. Anyway, the app is pretty darned good. If you’re a fan of The NY Times Spelling Bee, this is a good substitute.
This is a great version of spelling be without the annoying ads and limits of the NYT version. However, it does have a glitch. Sometimes I type a word and the game says, “add ____ to list,” but the word is never added to the list. I type the same word over and over with the same result - word is accepted but not really added to list. Closing and restarting does not help.
Started with another very similar game but their word choices were often very obscure and they used proper names sometimes… This game is much more satisfying and enjoyable. Highly recommend it!
I’m not sure what dictionary the developer used for this but “captcha” and “gonna” aren’t actual words. I tried to use “nougat” and it wouldn’t accept it. I usually exhaust my guesses and then look at the list of words that I missed. I’ve been er heard of most of those. I do like the hints and knowing how many words I’m trying to find though!
Found this while searching for another similar to the NYT Spelling Bee which unfortunately has only one game per day. Like this one a lot do far but... I play on an iPhone and the top of the screen is cut off. If it's designed to be played on a phone it should adjust to whatever phone is being used. Also agree about too many legit words being rejected.
Great game to play when trying to pass time. A little repetitive, not a lot of variety in words when you've played enough times. Some words don't have a definition because they're ridiculous. I'm not sure how the developers choose which words are qualified to add to your Custom Word List or not.
I played quite a few game. While I overall like the app, I have noticed repeatedly that the reveal is flawed. When you’re done playing a game, you can reveal the answers. The answers that you missed are in red. Just about all of my reveals include words that I did enter. I have tested this repeatedly and conclude that there’s something wrong with the reveal feature that makes the game results inaccurate. This should be fixed.
This app is a blast, playing with others on Wi-Fi is great. However, the app won’t accept common words like the comparative adjective “hairier,” but then includes incredibly niche jargon like “heme” (a precursor to hemoglobin), and claims “teetime” is one word rather than two. If it something is going to be a spelling and vocabulary game, it could at least use improve in those things.
I like that it's a very clean interface (with two options, if one likes the letters to be circled or not), with no distracting flashiness / animations. A minor quibble: I play on an iPhone SE 1st generation, which has quite a small screen, and some of the UI elements are cut off at the edges. It's still playable though. Thanks for making a nice game
This is a great “bored app” - something to do when you’re bored. I just wish the iOS status bar would show in the game. It’s annoying that the app doesn’t use the top space, but hides the status bar anyway.
I loved this game until recently when ads began popping up in the middle of the game. Before, you’d get an ad at the end of the game, which is fine, but now ads pop up several times right in the middle of play. Very annoying. I spend more time with the ads than the game now. Won’t be playing anymore.
I love this game, but some of the words are just not words. How do they get on the list? Clicking on the definition gives “No definition”. Or it’s a proper name, like a Native American tribe’s name. I wish there was a way to report those words, so they could be removed.
This game is awesome! I love that you can click on help for helpful hints. Also, there is only 1 five-second ad between games. The ads don’t interrupt your play like other free games. I’m hooked!
This fun game is a quick picker-upper for me after a long day. I love words and using my memory and creativity in this handy app helps to keep my brain limber!
It’s a great way to kill time, and can be very fun. However, it often resorts to using the most arcane or even non-existent words, which you can only find literally by trial and error. Heme, hoon, orrery, hild, harl…. What kinds of words are these?
I’ve enjoyed this game for several months as a tool to help moderate my anxiety. So it was such a disappointment to be confronted with a hyper-partisan political ad between games! I have no problem watching ads as a trade off for free use of an app. But the political ads are a mistake.
I love this game and would buy the ad free version, if not for the black screen. I happens every few days and I have to reinstall the game. It is aggravating and I am afraid it will also happen on the ad free game. Is this something you are working on?
This is a great game and I found it when I went looking for something similar to the NYTIMES game. But… I wish my game progress was saved. If I leave the app for too long or close it my game is replaced by a new one.
Shameless copy of NY Times puzzle deliberately rejects “uncommon” words even when its dictionary recognizes them. “Nostrum” got all seven letters, but no credit. What is the point of a word game where you get no credit for having a good vocabulary?
I love this word game. however, the developer uses a lot of British slang, not enough American slang, and sometimes place names or words not found in their own dictionary!
I love the concept of this game, I play the NYT game daily but it’s one game a day. This gives me more options but the word list is still very poor. Actual words rejected while words show up in the solution that even the very loose built in dictionary service has no definition.
It’s fine, good and mind teasing but I got the letters C A N U I G R, the letter U being the one must used in all words and I spelt Cancun and it was deemed incorrect. I understand it’s spelt with a u-acute, as in “ú” so correctly spelt it’s Cancún but I still think it’s inaccurate to leave the word out just because the “u” is acute accented.
Great puzzle if you love words. I play The NYt every morning and this is a close cousin to it. Love the fact you can play multiple games in the same day.
I’ve had this app for about two years and at first it was great with ads maybe 1 every hour. Not there is an AD every 10-20 min and they last like 3 minutes. By the time it comes back on I have forgot where I am. So sad because it was a great game.
I have been playing this app for a couple of years now and I like it a lot, but it does seem to prevent many words from being “entered” that truly are legitimate words in an English dictionary.
Like the game but the word list leaves out common words and includes obscure words. Eg., in todays game of the day, well known words bursar and bursa were not accepted but bazar, a little known alternative spelling of bazaar, was. Encourages random guessing.
This app is so dumb. There’s no consistency to which foreign words it accepts and which it rejects. Some words on the list are just plain not words. Accepts misspellings of some words but not the correct spellings of others. kind of seems like a dumb AI made this app and nobody checked it. The pangram today was Camomile. Chamomile is spelled with an H. Spring for the NYT version, this one is lazy, inconsistent and annoying.
Fun game but it’s frustrating how many valid words get rejected. It recognized the words but wouldn’t give any points for “defocused”, “defocuses”, or “scry” which I thought were good finds. 😕 still kinda fun despite that.
I love this game but I keep running into an issue where I enter a word that it won’t accept, but then is on the list once I reveal it. There could be several words in one game, and it’s happening almost every game.
Pretty great app for pangrams! Only frustration is that sometimes perfectly good dictionary/Scrabble words are not included while informal/slang words are. But the variety and ease of use is terrific. All in all, pretty great.
Spelling bee is really fun, but there are many legit words that it won’t accept—example: gallivant, cruller—a lot of words that end in ER. It can be frustrating at times but I still enjoy the game.
Daily game has been the same pangram with a rotating letter in the center for days now. And it was this just a couple weeks ago. Very limited gameplay. There’s no way to see the solutions if you resign one of the non-daily games. Very limited app.
It's clear that the developer is neither a native English speaker nor using any aid/freeware to pull all of the valid English words from the available letters. I played 2 games and there were more than 20 words missing from each. Not that good, imo :-( . Deleting.
App version of the popular game, with many added features like the option to play together with friends & family on your Wi-Fi! Each 7-letter game is generated on the fly by algorithm. There are over 4000 unique 7 letter games to play! Work your way up from Novice, to Brilliant, to Mastermind, and on to win! There are only two rules to finding words and winning the game: words must be at least 4 letters long, and words must always use the center letter. Some games have only 10 words to find, to win the spelling game... other ones have over 50 words! Use Help to get a word count that will tell you how big the challenge is, see how many you've found, and get hints. There's now also a Game of the Day which is the same for everyone, everywhere. Each game has at least one pangram - a word that uses all 7 of the game's individual letters. Some games have more than one! The game's word list is a partial English dictionary of the most frequently used words that have 7 or fewer unique letters. In your game, you can customize your own personal word list! Here's how it works: if you enter a word that *is* in the English dictionary but *is not* in the game's list, you can add that new word to your own list. That new word will be included in future games, no matter which of your iCloud devices you are playing on!
