I bought the card yesterday and it said my funds would be available within 60 mins. I went through the registration all except for activation. When I try to activate it tells me to try again later and has not changed. The app still is saying my funds are pending also. I call the number on the card and cannot speak to anyone. When I press the prompt to speak to someone, it just keeps starting the call over. So it’s looking like I’ve just lost my 80$ Because I cannot speak to anyone to get anything working. I only bought it to be able to pay a bill yesterday, and of course that bill didn’t get paid because my money is still pending and I cannot get the card working anyways. I should have just went to Walmart and bought a green dot card I guess because I’ve never had trouble with them, my funds have always been available as soon as I register the card. This card is a dollar general brand reloadable MasterCard (spendwell, and it’s the only brand they had) I didn’t think dollar general would stoop so low to do this to hard working ppl that chose to shop at their store instead of Walmart.
I bought one of their cards at the dollar general store because it was reloadable, so when I got home and did what it said to do, I tried to get online to the account, it kept knocking me off saying invalid password, and I had it wrote down. So I called the number on the card, and they said it was activated, so i tried to use it online, it said invalid card number. So I spent the money on this card that won’t work for me and I can’t create an online account to see how much I have on it. It’s useless and I will not recommend it for anyone. I’m going to take it back to the dollar store and demand them to give me my money back for something that won’t even work like it’s supposed to work. I got the card to finally work, but I had to put it under my mom’s name to get it activated, but I can’t get into the account we put it under because it says the same thing as it did when I tried to sign in under my name, account doesn’t exist. I know the card worked because i made a purchase with it, but I just can’t login to your website. So after I get the new card or when I use up the money that I have on this card. I’m not going to put any more money on it and just forget about the account. It is totally useless. Also when I try to sign it, it will say sending email to verify sign in and I never get an email to verify it’s my account. So trying to use this card is useless and trying to online to website is even more useless.
They make you think you are getting a prepaid card with spendable money on it. Drag you through a very personal “registration” that just creates a bank account for you that you didn’t know you were even doing. After going through all of that nonsense they give you a screen that shows your new bank account with $0 in the account and they claim they are sending you a debit card in the mail. They also give you a temporary virtual card to “use” while you wait but the money that you thought you preloaded onto the card doesn’t actually exist. So you have a new account and they have all of your information and you can’t use the money you “preloaded” at all. Absolute scam of a company if you can even call it a company and Dollar General should be ashamed to even carry such a product. Do not buy any of these cards. I wish there was a way to get this out to more people since they will most likely only be seeing this after being dragged through the terrible process of “registering” the card they bought. Terrible terrible product. They will leave a reply on this review about how sorry they are that they didn’t give a 5 star experience and they would love to help but they won’t. And somehow they have manipulated the reviews on the App Store to show 4.7 stars but when you actually look through the reviews 90% of them are 1 star. DO NOT BUY THESE CARDS!!!
I found the app really easy to use , which is what I liked most. I’m not the most tech savvy person but I created my account in a few min, registered my card and set up an account under my account - I think they are called sub accounts - for my daughter. My daughter and I often shop at dollar general so I like that she can use it and earn rewards also and I can view her purchases from the app. I also like being able to see my balance without logging in also- that swipe thing is cool.. Again, overall…. Great app.. great experience , even for a non-techie like me. Thank you to whoever built this!
I went to dollar general to get the card I loaded 300 in the card so I could pay my college bills because I lost my debit card and only had cash and no car so I couldn’t go to the bank here I am thinking I found a way to pay my college bills WRONG!! Everytime I tried to register but it didn’t work even tho I used the right information and kept saying my information for the card sint roghy I have tried my roommates cellphone and it still didn’t work then I tried to put the card number and the Cvv it kept saying it’s wrong !! I called customer services and they didn’t even help me the lady was rude and disrespectful and hunged up on me all I wanted to do was use this card to pay my college bills I’ve saved up for this money for months nowwww , and now I can’t even use it because it won’t let me make an account and keeps denying my approval I’ve been sad and crying I don’t know how I’m gonna pay my college bills or anything this app is a total scam !! I’m so disappointed words can’t even describe how I’m feeling my whole life is on the line because of this card please if anybody wants to donate and help me my cashapp is $ellafilani
I shop at Dollar General for the deals and love using my card to earn cash back and get even more deals at Dollar General. The app is easy to use and there are multiple ways to add money to your account. I use direct deposit but can also do remote check capture and load cash at Dollar General (at not cost). This is definitely a value added card!!!

I purchased a debit card today at Dollar General. I got home, followed the steps on the card regarding the registration steps. I filled out my information, but when I click “complete” (after agreeing to their terms), the website/app just keeps loading, nothing happens after that. I tried it on I pad, iPhone, MacBook, and a windows devise. I tried with mobile data and Wifi. I called the customer service and the automated message tells me my balance, which is accurate. However my money is being kept there while I cannot use it. I talked to somebody from the customer service and they told me that the card cannot be activated over phone, only website/app. I cannot use my own money to pay my bill. I am worrid this may be a scam.
I purchase a card and put funds on went online to register gave them all my info and at the very end it wouldn’t go through two I did it again and it said that the card number invalid I had a balance of 20 on it called the company they said they have nothing to do with it that I was denied and only could use the money online I slent 19 somethjng they removed the remaining valence and closed my account. I didn’t receive the extra ten dollars they advertise on the card for registration either. Not to mention the lady seemed a bit sketchy and wouldn’t give me reasons why I was denied. Isn’t it the law for them to tell you the reason you’ve been denied not to mention it’s a releasable debit card. Stay clear of it they don’t give you what they claim nor are they in your best interest.
2nd attempt at writing this review !! I have no idea why my 1st review wasn’t accepted ? I didn’t break any rules with what I said ? I downloaded this app to give them a try. The app and my email said I was approved. Shortly after I received another email that my debit card was on its way. I also received several messages and emails asking I add money to the account before I even got mail debit card in the mail !! A few days later, I got another email asking me to provide a valid mailing address or they would close down my account ?? The address I provided was correct !! And is the same address on my Drivers License where I’ve lived for almost a year now ?!?! Thank god I didn’t put any money on this account !! Do not trust this company with your personal info, your money, or your paycheck !!
I purchased this card at dollar general, put some money in it and tried to login with the app before I bought anything. I wasn’t able to login even after I registered and everything I entered was correct, chose the option “i forgot my password” and tried to reset it by entering the card’s information and it told me this card was already in use. I headed to dollar general the next day and told the manager to give me a refund. He said he couldn’t give me a refund and to try purchasing some stuff. I was able to purchase from various websites but I cannot login to my account, so how am I supposed to reload any cash into my account? This system is poor.
The app let me send myself $5. I was only doing that because I had tried to use the virtual debit card online & it DID NOT WORK anywhere! So I wanted to see if you could possibly anything at all with this app/financial service. So I put my own name in as the person to receive the money. No other information. Not a phone number, email…. Just a name. And there it sent $5. Well that was on November 12th I believe. Its now November 21st. I still haven’t received or been refunded this money. Also EVERY OTHER APP that has the option of a virtual debit card that I have used, the cards worked. 100% All of them. This is the only one that I had a problem with. Idc how petty this sounds but…. CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY FIVE DOLLARS THATS BEEN PROCESSING FOR 9 days back!?!?!??!?
I originally set up the account per the instructions on the card I bought for my daughter’s field trip. However, I wish there was a way to add that balance back to the account. Unless I’m missing it, I’m not seeing a way to add money without having to go to a store or directly deposit from the bank. This account was set up a week ago and still have not received my spendwell card for the main account. Other than that, I feel this app will really come in handy!
I am so tired of constantly being locked out of my account. Trying to get ahold of anyone who speaks understandable English is nearly impossible. They tell you they unlock your account, you can log in now, and you get the exact same message, “Oops!” Something went wrong, try again later”. Well I guess later never comes because no matter what I’ve done I can’t get back into my account. I had just referred two people to start using Spendwell and both of them are not going to now after telling them all the garbage you constantly have to go through. Sheesh!! Do better!!!
I had bought a spendwell card to use while I waited to get a replacement card and it was the biggest mistake ever I now have 190 dollars sitting on that card that I can’t pull off because my account was denied for not reason I put all my info in correctly so I don’t know why it denied me. I then called customer service and they were no help saying that they don’t know why I was denied and that I can’t reapply. So now I can only use my card as credit and can’t even check my balance. Also if anyone from spendwell sees this don’t tell me to call customer service because they can’t even help anyone. I just want my money back on my actual card
I bought this card at dollar general to pay a bill online being that I don’t like using my bank card online. I learned the hard way that it’s too good to be true. After multiple tries my card is still not registered because it was denied for some reason and when I call customer service there’s always this one girl that answers who is most likely home because you can hear roosters crowing in the background. The girl has a horrible attitude and seems to only want to get you off the phone. This is definitely a SCAM. Please read the reviews before wasting your money. Unfortunately I didn’t and was screwed over by these scammers.
Great app! Easy to use, reliable, and just what I need to help me manage my money. I’m so happy to have found a banking tool that I can use on the go that doesn’t require a monthly fee, but also gives me access to everything I need. Direct deposit, ATM access, purchases, check deposits. So far, nothing but smooth sailing for me.

I wasted money on this in hopes of having my paycheck deposit on this card but when I did the setup ,it denied my identity even when your have to give up your ss number and then when your call customer service they tell you they can’t do anything to verify who you are even with phone I’d ss card birth c, if the system can’t identify you( Whitehall is impossible considering m on la wallet on have been verified by every other agency but not theirs) hard to believe , don’t wast your time or money this system is very flawed for it not to be doing any of this right
Only being able to load the card at a maximum of $500 at a time is a definite hassle. In addition, the biggest problem is that the liberty ATM/bitcoin machine that I use will not except the card. I called customer service and they said there was no block on it, and so forth, blah blah blah. I called the liberty ATM customer service and they said that the Spendwell card company was not allowing the transaction to go through. I will be discontinuing use of the card for that reason alone. Thank you.
Spendwell is crap. I’ve tried multiple times with multiple different emails and always getting declined for an account. I tried my wife’s information for an account and still getting declined. No clue why. I called CS to find out and was told to use a new email and it should let me open an account. Well big surprise, it was declined yet again. Done with trying spendwell and I’ve always referred others to steer clear of this company since day one of this situation. GO2bank is far better and substantially more reliable.

Do not ever buy this if you need to pay a bill. Super confusing. Denied my registration for no reason and my money is on there and I can’t get it off. I can only spend it in store and I needed it for a specific bill for my phone not to get shut off. Can’t pull the money out of the ATM. Didn’t ever send me one email to verify anything. When you call customer service, there’s nothing they can do about it. I thought I was getting a good deal only paying one dollar to upload the money DONT use this card company!!!
The bank is a joke thy will let you think your getting a pre paid bank account and then when you try to register the card it activated it with a “one time use card “ and I can only use it to shop online or at a retail store. I bought the card because it claimed it was a bank account and now they have my money on a card I can’t use for paying a Important bill. They claim they can’t do anything about it. I will never buy another spendwell card and neither will any one I know!
This card did not work. Put money on it to make an internet purchase and it Declined two times. What a mess! Called customer care and the rep was rude. Kept saying I didn’t activate or register when I know good and and well I did. He was of no help. I just wanted my money back off that miserable card. For goodness sake it’s just a prepaid card so it should not be that complicated to activate. Worst prepaid service I’ve ever experienced. Traumatized me for just trying to make a simple online purchase. If don’t deserve 1 star.
Trash wouldn’t recommend to anyone at least don’t set up the direct deposit on these card I’ve called customer service multiple times and there no help they locked my card as soon as a job payed me . I ask them how I go about getting my money and they said my card was permanently locked . They apparently can’t send the money back to who sent it or give me my money back . So I’m out of 600 . They couldn’t give me even a valid reason why the card was locked .
That’s all I’ve been able to see when checking my transactions, loaded 20$ on to it a few days ago, it has been pending for 4 days. It no longer says pending and the 20$ did not get added to my balance and I can’t check the transactions to see where the money went. Called customer service, they couldn’t help me. A simple prepaid debit card should not be this hard to use. Thanks for taking my money :)
Really enjoy using the spendwell app. It lets me see where I stand financially at all times. Plus love getting the notifications when my check is deposited or if my balance is getting low. Great product.
DO NOT!!! I repeat DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD FROM DOLLAR GENERAL OR ANYWHERE ELSE THEY ARE BEING SOLD!!!! After you load your money onto this card they will hold your money and tell you that the only thing they can do is activate the card as a gift card for you to spend in Dollar General and a few other retail stores!!! Do not become a victim of this fraud, and if you already have you should contact Dollar General’s corporate office, the Better Business Bureau, authorities, and possibly a lawyer!!!!
Would give this a lower rating but there is none. Card was cancelled for fraudulent activity so I have no way of accessing my money until new card arrives. There is no way to transfer or access funds to and from an external account. Bills are due and am unable to pay for gas. They have no remedy for this situation. I would not recommend this card to anybody and recommend any potential users to use caution.
This card is trash. Not so much the card, but the support and app. Follow instructions, punch in the card number, verify mobile number and then get an “oops we are experiencing technical difficulties” pop up. Can’t call someone and when I hit “forgot login, because I have yet to be asked to create one, I get the same error message. Five hours now and no better. I’ll spend the money that’s on the card and move on to another.
I bought this card about a week ago, but cash on it, and used it once. I went to check my balance on the card and the website when I try to use it says that it is having technical problems. The app says the same as well. So I went to register an account on the app, and it won’t let me check it on the app as well.
Don’t bother wasting money with this app or card. You can’t get the app or website to register you and when you call the customer service they tell you to keep trying because they can’t do it on their system as the card won’t be registered. The registration option only leads you to your card balance at the customer care number on the back. The worst card I have ever bought
My father,: he got me this as a gift and I registered but it would say “oops this is AKWARD try again in a moment” so I did and then it kept saying that this is a scam I tried registering nothing JUST GET A APPLE GIFT CARD INSTEAD! I bought this after using Netspend for years and paying $3.95 to load cash on now I use spendwell and don’t pay anything at DG to load money! No monthly Charges nothing I Love IT!!!
Free to load your card ,if at Dollar General . PLUS the cash back you can redeem back to use in the DG is surprising. One down issue to me is signing in to the app initiallyit can be taxing but it’s worth it.
I got a direct deposit of $1,351 in my account this morning and my account was permanently blocked for no reasons. I called the customer number, I was told they can’t do anything that I need to write a letter. Atleast I should be able to move my funds to another account if they lock my account with funds in it, but they won’t listen and keep ending my call. This is the greatest scam of all time. I want my $1,351 back.
This product has worked great for me. I really like the ability to add cash for free at my local Dollar General store. I’m already racking up Cash Back. That is really going to help my budget.
I just went to the dollar store and got a debit card first thing I do is make an account my password doesn’t work when trying to log in not only that but when I try to use the forgot password it always says “well this is awkward it seems we are having difficulties” please help me

Do not purchase one of these cards, I tried to activate it by following the instructions and I can’t even use the card. Everywhere keeps declining. When you call customer support all you get is rude people with thick middle eastern accents that you can’t even understand. I’m out bill money because I was scammed.
Very difficult, customer service is a joke ! Maybe better speaking English would be a plus - locked my card 3-4 times in two weeks I had to call them . Then it’s “hello” “hello I can’t hear you five times until you get so mad !!!! makes no sense . Won’t continue to use this at all .

I receive an error message 99.5% of the time I try to view account activity. Recurring problem over four weeks, when I tap “Name’s Account” to view account activity, I get “Oops something went wrong” I never get to see account activity.
