I personally love this game. Most of the negative reviews on it are the controls, and although they are unique, it kind of fades away after a couple of minutes of playing. The only hitch for me is that there is not enough gameplay in the story. I would love it if Uppercut added more, because, as I said, I love it.
I bought this app a few years ago and after getting a new iPad without apps loaded on I forgot about this amazing app! A few days ago I rediscovered this amazing gem of a game and I have been playing it nonstop. Submerged is unlike any other game I have played! The graphics are gorgeous unlike what some of the reviews say and the story unfolds as you play. The audio is also beautiful and has an original soundtrack. The controls take some time to get used to but I think they are pretty easy to use and don’t take up any of the screen. The game IS pretty hard and you have to explore the city inch by inch! The developers took time with this game and it really payed off! This game is a bit expensive but I think it is worth it! A few suggestions for the developers would be to make a survival mode were you had to scavenge in the city for resources with an actual health bar, water bar etc. Overall this game is great and should get better publicity! I still cannot understand why some developers refuse to include a virtual joystick in their games! The whole “touch to move” and “touch to stop” thing is terrible. Touching the screen and then moving it around to control the character’s direction is awful in almost all games, and this one is no exception. Then there’s the climbing thing where you have to swipe in the direction you want to climb. It’s terrible too. I got stuck on a wall because no matter how much I swipe the character just stands there looking around like she’s confused. I ended up closing the game 3 minutes into playing it because of the horrible controls. Please give this game a virtual joystick so we can have true control of the characters movements. Also, fix the climbing. Using a virtual joystick, we should be able to just point it up in the direction we want to climb, and the character should start climbing.
I saw this game a while back and decided to try it out and I was pleasantly surprised at how (submerged) I got into the game and story, the controls took some getting used to but after a few minutes into the game it’s just fine. If you ever thought what it would be like to explore a world after a apocalyptic event has happened then you will like this game and it also tells the story of the bonds and lengths a family member will go to in order to survive and help a loved one. And so the game has a little of everything to offer a player. It’s worth playing.
I can see what they were going for but disappointing
I wish I hadn't spent the money. I think the developers bit off more than they can chew with this game. The graphics look pretty old which is acceptable because of the platform but thats why you have to work with what you're making for. Movement is awful. Playing it just makes me want to play a better game. Everything looks the same. There's no spoken lines almost anywhere. The collectibles have no written info only pictures for me this makes it semi uninteresting. Feels like a demo more than anything else and I'm disappointed in the App Store for recommending such a sub par game.
Nice looking and fun game that is nonviolent but crashy
Loved the concept. The exploration on the boat was lots of fun, and the story was interesting. The environment was beautiful and the art was pretty good for a mobile game. The soundtrack was really great. The climbing was fun for a while, but it got really repetitive. Would've been nice if the buildings didn't have exactly the same climbing style and the same art. The game sure crashes a lot though. It needs a fix to get 4 stars. It was also very simple and short, but worth the $2 for sure
If you're looking for combat, move on. If you're looking for a great puzzle game with absolutely gorgeous music. I originally played this on my Xbox, so I was excited to see a version for iPad also. My only complaint, is that I've been waiting for a sequel for years that has never happened. Love this game.
Beautiful open world experience. No combat and no dying, yet the immersive story hints at looming dangers. Incredible imagery and storytelling. I wish the main storyline were longer. But after winning you can still explore. There are many more secrets to discover. Excellent use of gesture control. Although, I do suggest players dial down the look sensitivity in settings.
No violence. No combat. Just a chance to explore at leisure and solve the puzzles. I liked this game a lot. The graphics were great. Some reviewers did not like it but it is not the game that is bad, it must be their expectation for combat and a challenge to their dexterity. This game is peaceful and you not die all the time. As far as I am concerned, my money was well spent.
I was pleasantly surprised by the graphics in this same as well as the story line and the amount of actual play time. Definitely one of my top games available for purchase in the App Store and definitely worth the 5$ :)
Great game. Well built. And it plays great. Wish this was the standard for all games in the App Store. Only wish is that it had the controls for two thumbs. One for looking and on to move. And again I will say get this if you don't already.
The audio keeps cutting out whenever I pull up the pause menu. Only fix seems to be to close app and reopen (it has a super long load time). I also have to admit the walking controls don't feel natural at all for me. This game has a great atmosphere and aura but unfortunately the probs with it pull me right out of that atmosphere and aura. Bang! Shot itself in the foot.
And it still crashes on itouch 6 after 10 minutes or so every time I try to play...the developer listed the itouch 6 as a compatible device, so it's definitely their bad....but the game does look and play better on the iPad Pro. DO NOT buy game on itouch 6 or even iPhone 6...looks and plays like crap....this game is an iPad Pro only for me. Just a warning to those of you out there.
I was nervous about spending $5 on a game that had so many negative reviews but I am glad I did. This game is very original and just what I was looking for in a "puzzle" game. I love the open world / no time limit aspect. I like that it doesn't require an internet connection to play, so I can play it on the subway. The only thing I wish it had was a cloud save feature so I could go back and forth between devices... maybe a future update? I have played it on iPhone 6s with iOS 10 and iPad Air 2 with iOS 9, no crashes yet. Graphics are better on the iPad for sure, but not awful on the iPhone either. I have had no issues with the controls or camera, and I play with one hand (iPhone) while holding on to the subway pole daily - not sure why folks are complaining here. All in, great experience. iOS needs more games like this! Give us cloud saves and this app gets 5 stars.
I just paid 4.99 for this game that is almost a total waste of money....I have an IPad Air 2 and could barely control the movements....if you can’t enjoy the game because you spend 95% of your time being frustrated with the controls, but enjoy the graphics, that is “almost a total waste of money”.....not worth five bucks though! I will not waste my time as well....
The iPad Pro has a very powerful processor and as such it should be possible for the game to have a larger distance field for rendering details and have an anti-aliasing pass. Unfortunately neither of these are in the game and as a result the game looks not so good on the iPad Pro.
I've always dreamed of doing something like this - motoring around among old ruins and climbing around. Great mystery story building too. No problem with the Controls. A+
I like the background but the move to control makes it impossible to play. I can barely turn the boat half the time and the character walking or climbing is impossible as she either refuses to do the action or go the wrong way
It's a great game i'll accept that. But let me state some facts here- I play this game on 6s. Battery drains like 10% in 5 minutes. Game is laggy, and if a game lags on 6s, it needs serious patches! Thats why i mentioned in title to skip this one for now, u won't have a joyful experience.
The controls system is terrible, if they'd stuck to typical movement paradigms, maybe a dpad and AB button combo it'd be much easier to enjoy. Using gestures for controls is great for one hand games, but using it for a two hand game just makes thing more difficult, and reusing gestures for different things (swipe to climb, drag to look around) is impossible. The game runs hot and laggy, so something in the game is eating up a ton of time on the processor (and my battery!) and the game really suffers for it. If they could solve that, maybe then they could be less conservative with the graphics. Consider how hard it is to make a 6S sweat with these low poly/low rez graphics, they might be using a homemade 3D engine, which is laudable but very difficult to get right. They haven't gotten it right (yet). It feels like the release date on this was pushed up to coincide with the iPhone 7 - this just needs a little more work before release. If the game is able to overachieve in other areas, it would feel less like a broken control system and more like a new system.
I don't see what everyone is complaining about. The controls are simple.. they really are, maybe I'm just a gamer. I'm playing on a iPhone 6s iOS 10 updated and I don't see anything wrong with the graphics, the game doesn't crash or lag when I'm playing it. I think people expect every game to just be perfect. All games and apps can be improved in time. This one just came out so give it time. In my opinion if the game is crashing for you it's probably because you don't have a lot of space on your phone or you're not updated. But I really enjoy this game so far! The only thing I would say is if it would actually show the stories when we collect the secrets because the pictures can sometimes can be confusing to figure out. But I'm not all the way through the game, maybe it shows it all in the end.
I got used to the controls, and while it bugged out on me from time to time (annoying, but it doesn't ever set you back), I completed the primary story and almost everything else. The gameplay does grow a bit repetitive and predictable toward the end. It could've used a little more gameplay and environment variations included in the design. Many nice touches and some interesting ideas, though. And refreshingly non-violent.
Let me get something clear. This game isn't broken like so many reviews have said. While the controls can sometimes be slightly challenging, the game is beautiful and runs smoothly. That being said, I have an iPhone 6S. The developers noted in the app description that this game won't even run smoothly on a 5S. It's a VERY taxing game graphically. But, if you have the right device, the game is beautiful and well worth checking out. My one critique is the buttonless interface can sometimes make for some control challenges, as things like swipes are used for more than one thing. However, this is a combat-free game, and there's no way to die, so the stress level is very low when these issues crop up. Just buy it, sit back, and enjoy the experience.
I am not really sure why this game isn't getting better reviews. The graphics are beautiful and atmospheric, the story line is engrossing, and the soundtrack is great. The controls do take getting used to - I am constantly ramming my characters into walls and trees, and had a tough time figuring out how to climb - but I am getting there and certainly don't find it worse than other games in this genre. Load times are long, even on my iPad Pro, but they are forgivable given the animation. I like this one and hope folks give it a chance.
This would be the very first review I've written highlighting a bad game. First, developers have done a nice job on making good graphics; unfortunately however, because controls are SO TERRIBLE THAT TAKES AWAY RHE GAMEPLAY. No clear left-right navigation controls. They are so bad that you have to touch 5-7 times to get in right direction. Also, the map doesn't provide any clear guideline or directions. With $5 price tag, pepper functioning of these basic tools are expected, but developers miserably fail is. A big shame for taking money away and giving out such half-baked product. Absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. Developers should give my money back. And if not, must make the game controls better.
The controls are just too difficult. I can't figure them out. The world looks so beautiful but with the frustration of trying to figure out how to get from one place to another... I just give up. I've referred to the control instructions and it just does not explain clearly enough. I get walking around, but not how to direct the boat. Swiping often leads to just looking around. I am hoping this gets fixed soon because I am about to the point I request a refund. The graphics and idea is pretty awesome tho... Just hard to appreciate when you can't really navigate.
Over in the west side of the map you get stuck when you climb some limbs to get one of the memories. Theres no way to get down. She will not climb downwards far enough to grab a ledge.
Nice graphics, terrible controls. The look and move buttons are similar. You tap, ya move... but what happens next is, you are not moving but "looking around". It causes disorienting swings of your view. I had hoped the developers would fix this with standard operating controls... one set for looking, one set for moving...has not happened yet...I had to delete... will try again to see if things get fixed. My recommendation is don't pay $ until new version comes out.
Beautiful graphics and intriguing premise, but has some glitches. While playing the game can't always recognize the difference between a swipe and a drag of your finger making it frustrating to climb. Also, it's much too sensitive to any motion made, so I often had to adjust my angle from looking at the sky. Overall once you figure out the controls it's an enjoyable puzzle game. I wish it was a longer story though.
This game reminds me of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. There is a large open world that you can explore but the main objective is to save a little boy who I guess is your brother. I want to continue this game because I am enjoying it but every time I climb the first building to get what I guess are bandages for the boy, it crashes and exits the game. This has happened every time I have tried to play it. I'm using an iPhone 6. Please update so I can play, otherwise I would most definitely want a refund.
I absolutely love this game. I've been waiting and hoping for a non-fighting adventure game to come out for a very very long time. The graphics are pretty, and the screen shots shown here in the explanation are as seen in the game, no difference on my iPaid Pro. I have no lag whatsoever in game play! Keep up the GREAT WORK! We need more games like this, thanks :)
That a game with this level of fidelity is now possible on a handheld platform is remarkable. The gameplay takes a page from "ico" and graphically this title pushes the envelope (on the latest devices) to something near early titles for the playstation 3. This is on its way to critical acclaim and I'm thoroughly impressed.
Don't listen to anybody's bad reviews, this game is worth the money it is adventurous and fascinating, the controls are easy and the graphics are great! I give it five stars this game is one of the best games I've ever played on the iPad Air. So I would totally recommend this, if u like adventure!
I also am a game developer, but I wouldn't sell a game if it crashed like this. Improving stability(maybe memory consumption or material optimization etc) is the biggest issue. And second thing is the bad User interface. Typical two-thumb interface(wasd for left one, mouse look for another one) would work fine. Why did you select this one-finger interface? It's not effective.
I'm a big fan of uppercut - Epoch is one of the greatest - but this game is nearly unplayable. The controls are very touchy making it easy to flip your view upside down while attempting to climb for instance. Since this is a causal, no combat game how about some simple point and go controls? Why do you have to reorient the camera five times to take few steps? Could be a lot of fun with some work.
The controls are way outta hand. I have an headache playing this game. The controls are bad very bad. If you change the controls, I'll come back and play again.
It has been a long time since I spent $5 on a game or any app for that matter. Looking at the previews i thought it might be worth it. I was wrong. The graphics are not very good. I've played the game for 10 minutes and it has crashed 4 times. I have spent more time waiting for the app to load then actually playing the game. At this point I'm cutting my losses and moving on.
I love this game, BUT I waste more time waiting for it to reload after it crashes! I can play for about 5 minutes and we crash! But then again maybe that's good because I enjoy this game so much I would get a lil addicted to it!
I loved the game. The music combined with story made this game really enjoyable. The controls and graphics were a bit buggy, but were forgivable. I didn't want it to end.
I don't want the game to end. I want there to be a sequel. I want to know what happened to this world. I want to see miku again. Please don't end this.
Might could be a great game with improvements. I love that there's no violence. But controls are not good at all. It's hard to control where you need to go and plus it's hard to find where you can climb to find the items you need Needs some much needed improvements. Feel I just wasted my money.
