You guys should really look at other products and your competitor to check the interface and the way you want customers to set up the blinds. Some of my blinds are still not working after many attempts and along with my installer who actually installed and are Somfy certified professional installers. If the blind doesn’t open, the app should be able to tell me why did not open and which gateway cannot communicate with. All of these information should be available to the customer so when they report the issue, they understand the real route cause. After 6 to 8 months of installation I realize that I still persisted some of the issues where blinds don’t open on the schedule time. After many attempts from the installer, they still cannot figure it out and ultimately we had to install two Gateway hubs. After installing two gateway hubs, it still has the same issue without really identifying the root cause. If you are really a market leader, you should not have rudimentary issues with the products.
The app is reasonably intuitive (although not extremely intuitive), but only allowing for up to 1-hour offset from sunrise or sunset is an extremely disappointing limitation. I’m using this to control motorized window shades and I need a much larger programmable setting range based on the movement of the sun to both improve the temperature control within my home, as well as limit the sun exposure on many of my sensitive valuables (paintings, rugs, furniture, etc.). Only being able to program +/- 1-hour prevents me from achieving the optimal settings so instead I have to choose a fixed time and continuously manually adjust to settings throughout the year - as the sun change position, daylight savings, etc. Very frustrating and disappointing! My Rollease system in another home is much better in this regard as the software does allow me to program the function of my shades primarily using a very broad offset range from Sunrise and Sunset.
This application is the classic all "Jack of all trades, master of none". It is not an application specific to window shades. Therefore, it doesn't have some features you might like for a window shade application - for example if you would like to open a shade 75%, you only have the ability to use a scroll bar and only after you release the scroll bar can you see the percentage. It might be 60% or it might be 90%, as it doesn't show you as you are scrolling. If you have pre-programmed schedules for shades to open, and find later that you need to open them slightly more or slightly less, they cannot be modified. You must delete it, and re-create a new program.
Wish I didn’t go back and try to use the app after everything had been working for the past few months. Loading into the app it began an update process which broke my blind controls and the schedules for my blinds. I had to reprogram the app controls but I still can’t get the schedule to work. Oh, and after having to reprogram my blinds, I CAN’T DELETE THE OLD BLINDS! After tapping the delete icon and typing the word “DELETE” for confirmation, it literally takes me to the a ADD Blind instructions page. Really? Nobody QA this app? Ridiculous. Believe what everyone else is saying, this app is garbage… not to mention the UI is terrible, like some 14 year old designed it.
Yes, this app will open and close your blinds, drapes, shutters but you can’t look at the symbol showing the shade/curtain/shutter to see if it is open or closed. Why??? I have 7 shutters. I want to know for sure if they are fully closed or opened when I’m not home. It should be so easy for tech to show the symbol closed or open or half way opened, etc…. I dont open all of them every day so if I leave and remember that I want to close them the. I can to do it 7 times. It’s annoying! Please help update this minor improvement.
I was generally happy with this app for the first two months since our sun shades were installed, but the “Stop” button disappeared in a recent update. Now the shades go all the way down or all the way up. There is no option to stop them halfway down or only slightly down depending on the angle of the sun. We rarely want the shades lowered completely. And the pre-set option for partially closing the shades actually lowers them almost all the way down. We like them lowered just a bit to block the sun but not hide the pool and yard. I would gladly raise my rating if this option is restored.
Want to close your awning because it suddenly got windy? Well, you better hope there isn’t an update to the software that will automatically start loading when you open the app with no option to stop it, no indication of how much if any progress the update is making, or when it’ll be done, and no ability to do absolutely anything in the app in the meantime. Oh, and the updates periodically break the ability to use scheduling or using the app to control your devices at all.
Where the Heck Are the Directions for Using this App?
Some of the set up is pretty intuitive, but there’s no wizard, there are no directions, there are no helpful FAQs. My biggest frustration is with the MY SETTING. I’ve tried several ways to configure this, with no success. For example, when I tap the MY button, there is no display change to indicate that the setting is enabled, and in fact tapping the MY button does nothing, anyhow. The reason I have motorized shades is for the personalized features….. but getting no satisfaction here.
This app has the potential to be a great product for home integration. Unfortunately it makes me wish the home I am renting had some other platform besides TaHoma. When I build, this product will not be in my house. The app never stays signed in. It tries to update and never finishes; forcing me to quit and restart every time. The controls are not easy to understand and half the time clicks don’t even work. I have tried multiple times to set blinds to open halfway and it never works. Overall, the app needs to be rebuilt.
The app performs the basic functions well. But advanced programming is difficult and cumbersome. For example, it does not allow you to schedule a prolonged absence that will automatically disable all programming for the duration of the absence. The mass-disabling feature is buried in a sub-menu. If SOMFY wishes to go without a robust web interface, the app needs to be more intuitive. My 3-star rating is an acknowledgment of its ability to do the basics.
I am so pleased with the performance of this new dual protocol hub from Somfy. It supports the new bi-directional Zigbee 3.0 standard but also supports legacy Radio Technology Somfy - RTS motors. Finally a company that is committed to supporting existing devices when introducing products! Oh yeah it's also super easy to set up thanks to the new bluetooth Set & Go app from Somfy. I highly recommend Tahoma!
I can only speak for the motorized blinds portion of the app, but since day one I’ve had a whole slew of problems—and I’m a very tech-savvy user. For starters, the app doesn’t allow you to delete individual blinds once they’ve been added—meaning, if it stops working on you, or decides to stop following along with the times program, you’re just… stuck with a programmed blind that no longer works. Drives me insane. Secondly, it seems like every day there’s a new blind that decides to buck the system and give the cold shoulder to our scheduled programming. Overall the app is clunky, and not at all intuitive. Even the display of the blind up/down doesn’t show properly. There’s A LOT of improvements to be made, so I’m hoping Somfy is checking in on reviews to correct their product.
The shades are high quality and work great when you can get them to work!!! That’s the problem. The zigbee shades have such a hard time connecting to the hub. I have 3 shades that just won’t connect, even with the hub in the same room and 1 shade that I cannot even get on the app. The shade motors are wonderful. Very quite and reliable. Integrating it into Control4 is a breeze. But once again just getting it on the hub is almost impossible
Awful. DO NOT GET stoneside blinds with this system
We had these installed 1.5yrs ago with prior system never an issue never a glitch. This new Tahoma system is a nightmare since install 2months ago. Now no longer operates on any phones except my 2yr old iphone bc I have not updated it ever. As of today no devices does system work on. Not on a single newer or updated device or my 2yr phone. App also cannot report things in app that are broken. N now doesnt work. It was finicky prior.
Horrible product. Next to zero explanation on how to set up remotes through phone. And once you stumble onto how to do it, the tower is such a weak transmitter, it does not even work on controlling the shades in my pergola 10 feet away. The idea was to have the Somfy transmitter inside the house and away from the elements. Now I find that I have to place this Somfy tower inside the pergola with the elements to make it work! Useless product.
This the worst app I’ve ever used. Instructions are poorly written and the steps are excessive. I’ve installed many smart home devices from light bulbs, cameras, electrical switches and this is the worst. My first device failed within45 days. Replacement device is a nightmare. It won’t recognize my existing email account or password so I can’t finish installation. Support is on east coast time so west coast customers are out of luck to get support in the afternoon or evening.
No originality with this app developer. I use the app to control an outdoor awning. It would be very helpful if you can control awning using a % Open feature. Right now it is either Full Open, Full Retract, or manually stop.
I'm in the software business and this is one of the worst software tools I've ever seen. It constantly updates and takes a ton of time. There seems to be multiple versions out there. It's flaky and doesn't save changes. I'm shocked at how companies like Sonos can do things so much better and no one has disrupted this industry.
App required me to log in every time I use it. Can’t control individual blinds. Annoying. If there is a tutorial on how to custom program it (if that’s even possible) to address to above concnerns I can’t find it.
Can’t login with the app on new install. Installers phone was able to, I do not have location services or local network permissions available while the installer does. Please fix asap spent a lot for this system and to not be able to use it is very frustrating.
Basic control. Wish I could see what position the shutters are in on the app. It was a pain to setup. Already had to completely reset everything. A bit concerned about long term reliability especially since I travel so much.
Alexa controls all shades together but not individually despite being programmed all the same. Disappointing. Hope the fix their software soon. Instructions to program shade motors unclear. Had to spent more time than reasonable to figure programming motors myself.
Great app but there are periodic server issues which prevent it from working - and create ghost effects with the blind motors at any time - even in the middle of the night.
No positive feedback on state of shutters. I say ‘open’ but there is no way to see if it actually opened. What the point of network control if I have no idea if it did what I asked. Very poor execution on the whole networking support
The app does not show the status of the shudders (open or closed). Also the hub has a very limited range. I can control either in front of my condo or in the back; not both.
I have a number of shades in one room. Shades suddenly go off line, are not findable or say they are updating for no reason while others continue to work without a problem. Very inconsistent and not reliable .
The app should have a visual so when the blinds are moving you can see what position they are in. I move the blinds from the app when I’m not home, I can’t see where they are at.
When the app works I love this. However about half the time it doesn’t and just spins. It also won’t “unremember” a schedule and continues on even after it is deleted. I really wanted this to work but no dice
This app and the Somfy doesn’t seem to be very user friendly. I was able to get it connected to my phone and Alexa, but a month later Alexa only closes (does not open) our blind, and my phone won’t open or close.
I will never use somfy again. App forces me to log in EVERY TIME I OPEN IT and freezes 50% of the time so I have to force close and reopen. I can’t wait 1 min every time I want to open/close my shades. This company needs to hire some real engineers. DO NOT go with somfy/tahoma.
Raises and lowers blinds differently almost every time. Never know which blinds you will have to individually enter to get them to do what you want. Seller has been here five times trying to get the system to work. Junk. Avoid.
With amount of money spent on the blinds with somfy motors, the app is very buggy. Constantly freezing when opening app. Also, consider adding HomeKit/homebridge support
After taking the time to program all the shades in my house, this app works roughly 40-50% of the time. With some shades it doesn’t work at all. I wished I’d bought shades from another manufacturer.
The app is buggy, and support doesn’t respond. Can’t delete products, and there is a cap of 50 - even though marketing materials indicate it is unlimited.
The Somfy App regularly gets stuck “Updating”. Our WiFi speed is fantastic. There is no local cause for this. The App is unstable compared to other brands that control shades. Very disappointing.
When will the app be updated for a 5.0 internet? Great concept but can’t get mine to work do to the fact we live in an area with faster internet then the app can handle.
