I was able to connect easy enough through Wi-Fi. Controls take some practice but seem to work pretty well. The only problem is viewing photos through the app. It records video and takes photos but crashes as soon as you go to view them. You have to select them first and download them to your device in order to view them. A little annoying for the two step process. 8 year old was even able to fly it easy enough. Definitely fly outside though as inside it’s not as stable since airflow moves it around a lot.
I’ve owned this drone for 2 years now and didn’t want it. Not that big into drones. Tried to sell it and the guy said it wouldn’t fly. So I looked up these reviews on the app and saw how everyone said the app was basically broken these days. So I refunded the buyer bc I felt bad. I decided to try it myself just for kicks. Honestly I got everything to work. I was really impressed actually. My standards for drones may be different but I was happy with how it worked. I had expected it to not work at all lol. I don’t know if I would recommend it for drone enthusiasts tho but for my novice experience it was fine. Hope this helps. Just wanted to put my 2 cents on here bc I saw so many negative reviews on it. At one point it did tell me to connect the drone through the app but when I tabbed back into the app after connecting it wouldn’t work. After connecting I had to actually close and reboot the app and then it worked fine
Using my Xs on the latest iOS, Tello Firmware and app update. My Tello loses connection and hovers 9/10 when I finish a video. I’ve tested different bitrates and quality as well as short videos, deleting the app, factory resetting the Tello... just about everything I can. Ryze support chat told me it was possibly because the iPhone Xs and Xr aren’t technically supported but the X is. I’m sick of there being a break in communication almost every time I end a recording! Please update the app and resolve this or let folks know what the issue is, I could still return the Tello if this is a hardware compatibility issue. Other than this major issue(the main reason I bought it was for short videos) the drone is really great. Incredibly smooth flight, love the MFi controller support, great battery life for how well it performs, and the app works pretty well in most aspects.
I got it to take off but then it wouldn’t respond to anything I did on the app. It just drifted into the wall and sat there and wouldn’t respond to anything I did on the remote app on my phone. I caught it *without touching the propellers* and it stopped... I set it down and tried to take off again and it said the unit was overheating and it was shutting down... I took out the battery, let it sit and tried again with a fresh battery... It took of but then just drifted around aimlessly, would not respond to anything thing I selected on the app and ended up against a wall... I selected the landing option and it did nothing. I shut the app down a pulled it back up and it did nothing.... I ended up having to catch it with my hand *again without touching the propellers* and shutting it off by the button on the side... Drone is being retuned to Nebraska Furniture Mart for refund.
I had the same problem with video until I went back to the store where I bought my drone. The owner was knowledgeable (more than Tello Cust Serv) and had the same issue from his iPhone until he went into settings and calibrated my drone mid-flight. Then video recording started to work normally. On my iPhone (X Max) it then worked without any further calibration. This should be fixed or at least mentioned in the manual. And tech support should know about this at the least! Even better would be a software update that would calibrate automatically, to relieve us of all this frustration. The drone itself is awesome for the size and price.
The drone flies nicely and the real time video is superb. However the app only functions decently on my iPhone running 13.2.3 It only be viewed in one screen orientation, with the screen button on the right. When running on the mini 4 on 13.2.3 the save to photos feature is totally inoperative, the “send” icon for selected photos does not appear on the screen and the app frequently freezes necessitating a system restart. The display appears broken up and incomplete. I hope they fix this.
My Mavic doesn’t fly well in my apartment so I bought the Tello as a trainer. I couldn’t be happier. Well of course I could, but I’m more than satisfied. I’m working on learning to fly with just the “instrument” view. I have also programmed it with SCRATCH. That would be even more fun if some input was available from the flyer, altitude, impact, temperature, battery level, anything. The biggest improvement for me would be noise level reduction, but I don’t know that there’s much they can do there.
The app will consistently crash as you are flying your drone, leaving the drone uncontrollable and exposed. I crashed mine into a tree because I could not tell the drone to veer away from it. The WiFi range is pathetic and will also fail, granted less consistently than the app crashes. The point remains, losing connection with the drone for any reason while flying is unacceptable. I would not recommend the DJI Tello. The C-Fly faith mini is a bit more expensive but a much better drone with an actual controller. Incredibly disappointed and dissatisfied with such poor performance from a seemingly reputable company like DJI.
Major video problems, app crashes when trying to record video. And no video material is saved. Please address this problem ASAP! Also, Tello, has an over-heating problem, will shut down, when it is on for over 3 or 4 minutes, I guess it needs a little fan installed.
Only complaint I have is the horrible battery life on the drone but an easy workaround is to bring 2 batteries when using it, the photo and video quality is to be reckoned with and the controls are easy to use and convenient. Would recommended getting a third-party wireless controller to connect to your phone like a Gamesir controller (Really helped me out) -Satisfied Customer
This thing has trouble connecting and staying connected. I don’t see how people can fly this thing outside when it won’t even maintain a connection in my living room. I bought this to see what all the fuss is about drones - when it works for 2 mins at a time it’s kind of cool but I don’t wanna spend an hour closing the app, rebooting the drone, and swapping my wifi connection until tho thing finally gives me 2 mins of play time. Should be the opposite (assuming I have battery power for it). Absolute garbage. iPhone XS w iOS 14.5.1
Since the latest iPad iOS update 13.3 the availability to upload photos and videos is not possible. I can see my photos and videos in the application but the minute I go to the select option the screen switch does not show enough of the window to show the select all, upload, and delete icons. As a result I am not able to do anything with the photos or videos I took today. These option were available prior to the latest iOS update. Those icons are still available on the iPhone after the update but not the iPad.
The Tello is a great drone however it can get swept away on a windy day more then other drones the pilot may be used to, in order to prevent this the pilot needs to be able to easily switch from normal mode into sport mode however in the app currently that is done by entering the settings. It would be so much easier to save the drone from fly always if it was as simple as pressing a button.
I received the Tello Drone for Christmas in 2018, I have never been able to connect to my phone. I spoke to a service center and was told my phone was not compatible. I bought a new iPhone and still no connect. Replaced batteries (that were never used) and still nothing. Now I can’t even get anyone to assist with this horrible item. It’s November 2022 and I have been deprived from ever being able to use this product. Was never able to return item either. Do NOT waste your money with this product!
It’s a fun little entry-level drone and great for the price. The app is pretty straightforward and easy to use. There seems to be a decent amount of documentation to get you using the drone right away. Something that would be awesome is a self timer function for taking photos. It’s awkward to hold the phone and tap while trying to pose for a selfie. Either that or expose the camera functions in the SDK for DroneBlocks users.
I bought the drone a little over a year ago, and after a short break I decided to fly it and it flew away and I lost the drone. This was a replacement drone as well and it was a few days after the one year warranty expired, so I never bothered getting another. I will give Tello credit since their service is good and they were helpful in getting me the replacement, but people planning on keeping a drone for a long time should go for a more expensive alternative like the DJI Mini which I am now using.
I love this app a lot, but I would like to use my bluetooth controller, but I can’t because if I have Bluetooth enabled, it frame skips a lot. So I have to have Bluetooth disabled so I don’t get a ton of frame skipping. So I think there should be an update so you that it doesn’t frame skip when I have Bluetooth on so I can use the controller. Please patch this Bluetooth glitch.
This little drone is packed full of easy to fly controls! Just the fact that there is a sensor that will assist with keeping the drone stable, is simply amazing. The app is so easy to use... The video doesn’t save when done, but I’m sure that’s something that will get sorted out. This easy enough for anyone to look like a pro! Outstanding job! Love it!
Constantly disconnecting, need fix immediately. I can’t fly the drone because it keeps disconnecting every 10 seconds. However, the support team is amazing! They gave me good instructions based off of what I described, and my drone is back in business! Glad I got in touch with the support team.
The app is great!... But I dinged it one star as you must tell the app to set the photo quality to high every time you start up the app!... Please make it remember these settings and also it would be nice to have a flight timer to the left of the battery status since you removed the battery % which I assume was not very accurate...
I got a Ryze Tello drone for christmas and got the app. It worked great at first but then just today I tried flying it again and it would not connect with the app I tried everything made sure I was connected it still wasn't working so I downloaded a different app called iTello and i am able to fly it with that app but that one doesn't allow me to connect my controller so please tello fix your app i need my controller
The drone itself works really good and it is easy to fly but the drone can only go so far away from you before it is impossible to fly also the battery life is terrible it lasts for about 20 minutes max overall the drone is good and would recommend it for most people.
It’s a decent product when it works. It takes forever to pair with iPhone, the camera only works half of the time (so half of the time you fly blind), and the battery lasts about 5 minutes before needing to be recharged. Also the WiFi range is about 10 feet and when taking pictures the app freezes. The flip auto-maneuvering is pretty neat though. The hovering capabilities are good and the auto landing is quick. Overall a decent practice drone.
The Tello Ryze drone is still sold online and In stores at the end of 2020. And yet, this company cannot or will not update the app to support newer mobile devices! I have an iPhone 11, my spouse has a Google Pixle 4XL. Neither work with this app. They will NOT connect to the drones WiFi. A handful on Samsung and Sony devices and a ton of the Huwain (spell?) brand that’s banned in the U.S. but that’s it. Get on board with newer support if you are going to sell this drone still or discontinue it! And the Scratch programming it’s supposed to have... no idea where to find that.
Love it 😊 me and my brother have so much fun with the droid! Want to get one for him and get one for me! Wished that it would not stop when it hits something. Can’t wait to take it off. Love ❤️ that we can take with us but wished it was smaller for a car. We love 💕 our tells!!!
I give the Tello a 5 Star but the app 4. Still a few bugs such as when you set photo quality to high the stabilization for video stops. Unfortunately returning the photo setting to normal still keeps the video stabilization off and requires an app restart. I would like to see the option to set ISO manually. Keep up the great work Ryze!
I was having the video freeze bug, but the newest update has fixed it and now the drone is great! I’m super satisfied with it and had to come update my review. I encourage everyone else to do the same. Loving the experience with this drone now!!
Just bought the drone and installed the latest version of the app and haven’t had any issues taking videos or app freezing. Looks like they fixed the bugs just in time for Christmas
The app controls the tello drone well for me, but due to the scaling of the iPad Pro 11” screen, it blocks the option to import/save videos and photos. This is unbelievably infuriating, a $80 drone from DJI and Rhyze and you can’t debug the app on Xcode to make sure the interface fits on the screen? I don’t want to be rude about it, but it’s such an oversight I can’t help but groan how easy it would’ve been to fix.
It’s really easy to use, theres really no need for a controller. The only thing that bothers me is that the app doesn’t remember the settings (Speed mode, photo quality, etc). It’s really annoying to have to do it every time. Other than that, everything is great.
The drone flies good when not doing video recording. However, when I use it for a video recording (longer than 5 sec) and save it, the whole UI freezes. I cannot control the drone, unless I have relaunch the app. The drone is good, but need to fix this deadly bug. For ease of debug for developers, I use the iPhone 7 p with iOS 12.1 and latest release of the app. Hope it got fixed in next sprint.
We used this app for a school assignment BUT the drone wouldn’t stop moving even though we weren’t controlling it and the app didn’t let us prevent it from almost getting RAN OVER!! and another groups drone got stuck in the tree because it wouldn’t allow them to bring back down to the ground. We are all disappointed and unsatisfied of this big fail that was supposed to be a big fun project.
I got this drone for Christmas and it works great. The app is cool, and the camera is ok. I recommend this drone and the app (even though it may take a little while to connect your drone to the phone) so it worked fine for me.
Get everything all set up, get live view and take off. Then that’s it. The drone goes up to a high height, but you lose all control abilities. Can’t turn, rotate or land the drone. Still getting live view, and the app isn’t frozen but nothing works or responds and you just have to wait until the battery begins to die and catch it. Returned the drone. After the 2nd replacement did this.
I needed to reset the drone and wifi on my iphone in order to get it to connect, also I recommend that you male sure the battery is charged. Update: i need to turn off cellular data for it consistently connect, this isn’t good… at least it works reliably
This app doesn’t reconnect very well needs to be forced closed to connect the the drone every time and none of the settings stay you have to go into setting every time you use it and reset the camera setting and such. I think it will get better but it needs some work
This app fails on a fundamental level - when you record any video it will crash the app the app freeze and you have to force quit . Result no video recorded and drone can crash in time it takes to re launch the app. Ryze knows about this and seemingly has no solutions the suggest from them was uninstall, reinstall and see what happens . Dreadful customer support and App makes the TELLO a no buy stay away till they fix app
Seems to work pretty good. Stable. The Bluetooth controller works great. Low light conditions make the drone mostly unusable inside. It would be nice to have the option to turn off the position sensors for low light conditions. Good start for a new product.
The app is mostly good, with the exception of the altitude/rotate control not working sometimes. However, the main feature of this drone/app, taking videos, does not work. Videos do not save. Stopping a recording causes the app to crash and video to be lost. Total deal breaker. It’s a fun toy without the video, and that is all. Fixing the video issue would make this a great value.
It’s a good app, but it’s got some issues. There are no setting when a Bluetooth control is connected. And the picture quality always defaults back to normal and it has to always be changed back to the higher quality. Once the bug are worked out, it would be a great little app.
I recently pulled this little drone to take some family pics at the park. But for some reason my Tello will not connect to my phone. When you got to connect. It connects then it shows “No connection” fix this please. This little drone is my go to for quick pictures without having to set up my Mavic air.
The app works with no issues at all. Got the controller from DJI for the tello and it just works. Bind the tello with the app as usual and then in the tello app go to settings and open Bluetooth settings and connect controller. Don’t try going to the Bluetooth IOS Setting. It won’t work. Connect controller through the app.
On my iPhone 13 mini (iOS 15.5) I need to disable cellular data for the app to connect to the drone. Otherwise I can connect to its WiFi but video feed is black, height/signal strength/battery life data is unreported and the drone doesn’t respond to inputs.
There appears to be a bug in this version for iPad which prevents media from being saved to the iPad photo library. Works fine on iPhone, however. Otherwise a decent enough app.
Brand new iPhone14 and the app works up to the point of trying to view photos or videos that have been recorded. As soon as you try, the app crashes back to the Home Screen. Basically renders the camera feature non-operational.
My trellis won’t take pics or video simply because when you install the app a screen for permissions passes by so fast you can’t click it to allow! Come on... you sell a million of these things and it’s a KNOWN ISSUE! It’s all over the web... fix the app!
App is awesome but you really should keep na eye on punctuation - then it will look more pro. First of all, after every dot should be a space / after every sentence should be a dot / every word should start with uppercase letter. I don’t mean only description of the app in App Store but also changes logs and text in the app itself. Changelog... In the future call it just „Bugfixes” ;) I will change that review to 5 stars after punctuation correction of changelog, App Store description, description of tips inside the app.
The last firmware update for the Tello i messed a lot of things like when i take of i miss that motor sound like DJI Drones. And i like to see the battery percentage. Please can you get these back.
