I have seen VERY few games available on a phone as good as this series. This is what a game built for the app store should be and could be when the developers actually put effort into making a good game. The story is pretty interesting, if you ignore the fact that Da vinci somehow managed to make a time machine that can fit in your hand lol. This is not a story game though, it is an amazing puzzle game and the story does perfect in tying together the puzzles and making them relevant to each other. None of the puzzle are the same, in a few instances you may find a puzzle that at first seems like one you have already completed, only for you to realize there is a whole additional layer to it. The story provides enough intrigue to keep you invested and excited to move to the next chapter for more reasons than just the new puzzles. The difficulty in these games is perfect for me, fairly difficult but not difficult enough for me the spend hours unraveling a single chapter. Even if you run into a point where you are stumped, the optional hints are more than helpful for getting you back on track. This is a 10/10 for me and there are only 3 others on that list.
I have not been disappointed at all with this latest release of Davinci. So far there have been no glitches, issues, complaints. I am on my 4th evening of playing (about 3-4 hours per night - best guesstimate) and I am pretty sure that I am on the last chapter. I have depended on the hint system a lot more in this release than in past releases. I try very hard not to use hints, but I found that this game was a bit less intuitive in parts. Sometimes I just needed a nudge to figure out where to focus my efforts but a couple of times I needed full out help. All in all, the game was fantastic! The graphics were great. I enjoyed the plot (which I usually dont care about), and I did not encounter any glitches on my 9th gen iPad. The movement of the character wasnt as smooth as previous games but it did not impede the game in any way as you typically focused on bigger areas in this game and less on secret compartments etc. All in all, fantastic. Thanks for a great game. Please continue making similar releases in the future. Edit - game took 10 hours to play. Just finished. Still thrilled with it!!
An incredible end to a fantastic trilogy, a must have for puzzle lovers
It’s a rare sight to see a game series of this caliber available on mobile without drastic cuts to quality. I discovered this series during the pandemic and fell in love with it. I bought the second game immediately when it came out and played multiple times. Scrolling through the App Store yesterday I was ecstatic to see the third iteration was out. The story is captivating, the puzzles are genuinely difficult and require you to think three steps ahead and sometimes behind ;). The graphics aren’t great sometimes, and touch controls can be annoying on mobile, but honestly I didn’t notice. Tie all this together with a beautiful soundtrack, amazingly satisfying sound effects, and this is one game that everyone who enjoys puzzle games needs to play as soon as possible. I cannot recommend this game enough and anxiously await the developers’ next release.
Have played all the da Vinci games so far and have enjoyed them. 1 and 2 were far better though. Had similar problems to other gamers, my profile would disappear. I’ve discovered that you have to force quit the game twice before the profile appears again. This was after starting the game from the beginning once already, luckily I wasn’t too far into it before my discovery. The save point was quite frustrating. You can’t continue where you left off within a puzzle and have to start it from scratch. Also, if my screen timed out, or if I switched apps momentarily, the game would crash or restart; therefore making me have to force quit twice for the profile to appear and redo the puzzle. A little tedious. There are also places where the graphics in geometric shapes would flash green randomly, particularly in Borgia’s hideout. The story line has been great and the puzzles mostly fun, however some puzzle were less intuitive that the first 2 games. You really have to guess what is expected of you. You end up with a lot of trial and error and using hints. Would have been better without all the glitches.
We need more games like this in the App Store. The game is beautifully crafted with no detailed gone unnoticed. The game provides an immersive experience with none of the distractions that other games come with (e.g. pop ups, in app purchases, etc.). Anytime I see this game or one of “The Room” series drop, I purchase it as soon as possible. To the developers: Please continue to produce these beautiful games in the same fashion you have. Please know that I am willing to pay a premium upfront to maintain the integrity of the experience. I wish this games came out more frequently, but I understand it takes a while to craft such a beautiful piece of art. Side note, I noticed that the App Store states that this game is 9+ years old, you may want to look into that as it may detour some people from purchasing.
They seem to have run out of ideas puzzle wise. Just seems kind of stale. Story wise, how much increasingly difficult to believe da Vinci content can one squeeze out? That’s all fine, actually, it’s still a puzzle game. But the interface is terrible: the hints cannot be dismissed and stick around for many more seconds than they take to read; on a phone, that’s an inexcusable slowdown given how much screen space is used up, that’s an example of lack of foresight. The level design is also lacking: you might be in a large room with lots of stuff but you can only go one or two ways and they’re not marked; or a point of interest is clearly out of range given human reach so one might think there’s a ladder or something… but no, double click and you’ll magically fly to reach it. All and all these games always played second (or fourth, really) fiddle to the room but they were at least engaging enough to get thru; even if entirely forgettable. This… this is just not engaging.
I love the blue brain games and have waited a long time for a sequel to the wonderful House of da Vinci series. What I find extremely hard is that I cannot read the tiny print that the hints and the tax during the game are written. There’s no way to make them bigger. I have to get a magnifying glass or really strong glasses to try to read this. Otherwise it has the same excellence as the other games and as soon as I can find a magnifying glass I’m looking forward to playing it. Developers, kudos on your work, but please please please make the font able to be magnified!! It is the only reason this is getting four stars instead of five! Please continue to make excellent games as they are rare in the App Store!
I can’t complete the game because of a bug with attaching the hook on the crane to the loop on the trapdoor in the cave. I’ve spent 15 minutes just trying to get the hook through the loop. The graphics here are bad, as the hook moves through the solid part of the loop, glitching through it, and it’s flat-out impossible to get it in the loop. I’d love to finish the game, but this is making it impossible. Can you either fix it or refund me? Edit: that hook is AWFUL. I restarted the chapter, suffered through that horrible opening-the-cave puzzle again, forgot about the bag, and now I can’t attach the hook to the bag. I’m done with this buggy game. WAY too expensive for such a game-breaking bug. I recommend you just make the hook click on to something with no manipulation, since this is simply ridiculous. Don’t buy this game until they’ve done some bug fixing, y’all. Edit: Well, the crane bug is fixed, but now I can’t get the crane to stop once I start pushing it. It just keeps pushing. Sigh. I had hoped to finish the game and revise the stars.
This installment has been really challenging. Though a few of the puzzles were extremely difficult to get going on, the most were simple a great challenge. Storyline was well thought out, and you never knew what challenges were awaiting you, with each new chapter. Hints were usually obscure enough to still make you think a bit, without spoiling the puzzle. Personally, I thought one or two hints were a bit too obscure, but I still got through it. A very well-done puzzler that I could recommend to anyone who was up to a challenge. I think I could place this series as a close second to “The Room” series. Buy this game! You’ll not regret it!
I have played a lot of these modern Myst-like knockoffs. I totally disagree with many of the other people who loved this game. I would say about half the puzzles were ok. Some were just straight up some ridiculous concoctions with nice art around them. The animation is nice. Nothing as good as The Room games though. Maybe more in line with $2.99. Certainly not worth the price they are charging! I will give the programmers one compliment related to reading the stupid letters that were left around to read. They are more legible than previous versions on the phone. Still needs a lot of improvement though. I would wait until this game drops below $3 before even considering buying this game. It was overall decent graphics, dumb story, half decent puzzles, other half just plain forced into the story and not good puzzles. Sorry!
Loving the game until i got stuck in a glitch in Chapter 3!
This game has had me glued to the breakfast table every morning before work. I am now stuck in a glitch. I took screen shots. It happened when I found the Pope’s secret chamber downstairs. I found the puzzle to the right of a door and decided to check the rest of the room out before working on the puzzle. There was a way to enter “somewhere” to the left so I did and it was a dark room with a sky light and a letter on the floor. I picked up the letter and read it, then turned around and it won’t let me leave because it thinks I am trying to go back out the main door. I installed the upgrade but it didn’t fix it. I am going to now have to restart the chapter I guess. I will update my review after I see if restarting the chapter works.
I had a great time playing HODV3! 12+ hours of fun solving puzzles and adventuring with Leonardo himself. The puzzles were variable, some easy, some quite difficult, but always intricate and exciting and well-done. The graphics are terrific. The storyline, while far-fetched (no surprise), is fun and relatively easy to follow. No bugs for me. My only complaints are (1) that there are errors in some of the language on the screen, and (2) that the voice actors had British accents — couldn’t you find any Italian voice actors? Those are minor issues, though, and didn’t take away from my enjoyment. There should be more games like this out there.
As a lover of these types of puzzle games I was so excited for this game. And it was definitely worth the wait! Intricate and beautiful graphics along with a great story make this a five star game. My only gripe and reasoning for 4 stars is that it isn’t entirely original. While there aren’t many games like this out there it’s very obvious that there were quite a few elements/puzzles that were taken straight from The Room series. This isn’t necessarily a dealbreaker for me as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I had just hoped for some more originality! All in all though this was an amazing game and there were many occasions it had me stumped! Sad it’s over but I hope they continue to make similar games!
Like others have mentioned, compared to the prior 2 games, chapter 3 is more story than puzzles. Though the story was well done, great voice acting too. Nice to see more complex character development and not just a “good vs bad” story. Though it was a long game...wish it had more of the complex puzzles like the prior 2. And not sure if it’s a glitch, but at least 5-6 times, an item or inactive area didn’t light up or work...so I spent a long time re-tracing my steps ...only to go back... and voilá, that interactive area NOW works. Maybe it’s some kind of activation delay? But it can get frustrating to run around (or even to use a clue) only to find out that what I was doing the first time was correct. The movements are smooth but a lot of back and forth ....pinch-in-swipe-pinch-out-swipe-doubletap-tap-pinch ...can get tedious. Bottom line...it’s still a great game with beautiful graphics and proper feeling of immersion. Background music was spot on awesome. Gonna miss Da Vinci. But can’t wait for their next series to be released! Cheers
It’s almost hard to leave anything less than 5 stars. I’m a huge fan of this game series and have been since I discovered it, but this particular game has been glitchy for me. It only saves my game profile if I exit the app for about 10 minutes and then come back. But anything longer than that and it deletes my profile and makes me start the whole game all over again. Anyone who plays knows that this game is not quick to get though, between the cut scenes and repeating the same levels and puzzles over and over again, its so frustrating. I’ve tried restarting the app, restarting my phone and nothing. Hopefully someone can suggest a solution.
I love this type of puzzle game, but I was disappointed when I realized that not ALL of the puzzles could be solved through playing the game. I dislike ever having to ask for hints. It felt like some portions of the game were well thought out and that with persistence, resolving the puzzles would eventually be possible. However, some portions were lacking in story and the puzzles seemed totally irrelevant and disconnected from the plot line. Some portions seemed like the developers were told to “wrap up” the project and they were grasping at straws to end it without complete disaster. Overall a decent game. I look forward to seeing the developers’ crafting evolutions with the next.
Wow! I just finished all 3 House of DaVinci games. I will suggest this game to people who love escape games with added artistry, great 3D experiences and challenges (and hints for people like me that occasionally is at a loss as to what to do next but only wants enough to continue). An added piece of fun was moving from the present to the past in order to see how their world looked like before all the destruction and using the past to correct the future. A special kudos to your entire design team. I will look forward to the next game you create. I know I will get quality for my purchase!
I have been hooked on the DaVinci series and have never had an issue until now. The game worked well until I updated and it had removed my profile. I started over and it skipped ahead to the third chapter. I go to play again this evening and my profile is there but I am now back at the second chapter and none of the work from chapter 3 has been saved. I have always gladly paid the fee for these games because they are outstanding but because of this continued issue, I wish I hadn’t. I won’t start this game again. I’m deleting it.
A Very Satisfying Conclusion to a Remarkable Series!
I was captivated by The House of Da Vinci from my first moment in the first installment of the series. The House of Da Vinci 3 does not disappoint. Puzzles range from pretty straightforward to maddeningly obtuse (at least, for me), but the hints, when needed, always helped me overcome the challenge. I particularly enjoyed the presence of and interaction with other characters throughout. Having an adventure with Leonardo, himself, was so much fun! Open that tight fist and shell out the very reasonable price of admission to every game of this series!! Thank you, Blue Brain! I hope that you have another storyline up your sleeves!
Just finished The House of Da Vinci. 3 and I loved it. The graphics are amazing, the puzzles are engaging & challenging but not frustrating. The story is well written and the characters are intriguing. One word of advice: Unless you’re really stuck, avoid tapping on the clues. In my opinion, some of them give too much away and basically solve the puzzle for you. This was their best game yet and I really appreciated how hard everyone must have worked on making this a great storytelling/puzzle game! (I rarely write reviews, but this one was worth taking the time to sing its praise)
Love The Room series and the House of Divinchi Series. Hours of fun. I play it on an iPad which for me is much better than a small phone screen. Good story line with lots of great puzzles. Like the first two and the Room series, solving each puzzle advances further along through the game. When your finally in the Castel del Monte (a real structure by the way) and in the study solving the painting balls puzzle there is the most beautiful and somewhat haunting a cappella song. Would someone know it’s title? Question: why do all the Italians peek with a British accent?
More story-based than puzzles, but love this series
I absolutely love this whole series and was so excited for this third version. It’s truly a work of art, but this installment was definitely more story-based and less puzzle-based, which was what I loved about the first two. Where the first two really relied on puzzle skills and mini-“games”, this one required more of just bringing one item to a different area… miss the more fun mechanical and logic games of the first two. I didn’t enjoy it as much. Regardless, wonderful work and series as s whole.
“If history were told in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” - Rudyard Kipling. Very interesting storyline through the series of games. All facets of the games are excellent: puzzels, graphics, sound effects and music. I learned much about DaVinci, Borgia and the others, and the culture of the times through the story. I would like to know the name of the lady who sings the song during the closing credits of the final game (H of D III). I assume she has recorded folk songs in her native language that I could find online. I hope so.
The whole House of Da Vinci series has been really enjoyable. You can pay 10x as much for an AAA console title that won’t be nearly as fun. I haven’t had this much fun with a puzzle adventure since the original Myst came out on CD-ROM, and the whole idea of graphically immersive games was still brand new. Love these and will buy anything this studio puts out. One thing that was weird: why do all these very, very Italian characters have such clearly British accents? A little distracting from the otherwise great story and performances.
This is the best game these people have created yet! Amazing in complexity but so much fun! A real thinking game! The cinematic scenes were spectacular—don’t miss them! The plot and graphics had me completely immersed! I’ve enjoyed every game this group has made and would have paid TEN times what it cost! Adventure is awaiting! Buy it NOW! (and “NO”, I was not paid to say this!!) My two regrets are that couldn’t give the game a HUNDRED STAR rating and that I have finished playing it ! Can’t wait for more! Thanks guys and gals for producing such a marvelous adventure!
Having to reboot the game 2 or 3 times to get the profile back is very annoying. A lot of the puzzles make no sense, the hints are more frustrating than helpful. The never-ending movies take way too much time. The interface is gorgeous but if you’re stuck at a puzzle because of glitch or because the solution is completely obscure, you can’t move forward or back. More frustrating than it’s worth, I’m here to have fun, this isn’t it. Disappointing.
Amazing! Admire the creativity and thought that went into this story. It was so much fun and challenging, I did not want it to end! There was a great mix and balance and just the right amount of character dialogue to make it feel like you are actually there. The puzzles are amazing and I absolutely love the mechanical aspect of things. Great job to all who worked on this game, it is spectacular and I would like to play it on Oculus. I can hardly wait for the next one game (Have them all!). Fantastic job!!!!!
I have played all the games in this series and each is better than the one before. It took me several weekends to finish, which I feel like I got plenty of game for the money. Some of the puzzles were pretty difficult and I had to use more hints than I usually do, but at least help was available. I look forward to seeing what Blue Brain comes up with next and really hope they venture into the Meta world like Fireproof games did with the room series.
I have played all 3 in the series, loved the first all the way to the last. Beat all 3 in the series in the matter of 24 total hours. Kinda sad to see the trilogy end. But can’t wait for the next creation from blue brain. The creator defiantly challenged my mind, friends were all curious what had my attention as I was trying to figure out the next puzzle. Thank you blue brain for such an amazing journey through time and space without actually leaving my couch.
This game has the great qualities of the previous two but the glitches make it frustrating to play. I’m most frustrated by the tendency to backtrack and not save progress. Even if I complete a chapter, it sends me back to the previous one and I don’t always remember which of the things I did still exist and which were erased. There is a workaround for the profile erasing bug. If I choose an empty profile (not from the slot where mine should be, but from an unused slot) and then hit cancel from the profile naming screen, my profile is back where it should be.
I absolutely adored this game. These games are absolutely among the very best (in my top 3) games ever made for iOS. It’s clear The developers put more thought and effort into each installment of this series than most have/do in all the games they put out. ESPECIALLY for one time purchase titles. I could not possibly recommend these games more highly. I’m dying to see what they come out with next. THANK YOU Blue Brain!! PLEASE keep doing what you’re doing.
I have played all 3 and I can see how players would be reminded of “The Room” series but only by the one tool utilized in the game. This series is very impressive and each game is about 8+ hours long; very much worth the price and very engaging! The puzzles are just challenging enough to make you come back but not too hard that it makes you rage quit. The story is fun and interesting and really makes you think. Excited to see more from Blue Brain!
I still love the mash of story and gameplay used here. Puzzles are great as always. There’s definitely an uptick in the amount of cutscenes, but that’s fine with me. There are a few bugs in the sound. Many objects won’t have any sound effects paired (or it’s out of sync) and sometimes the music fades out for long stretches of time, which is disappointing because I really enjoy the sound design and music in this series. The sound is the only complaint I have, and if you don’t use it, it’s unnoticeable.
I thoroughly enjoy the game, but this glitch… So I got to chapter 2 on the crossbow section and experienced a harsh glitch that force shut down the game. When I go back into the game, it deleted my profile, and when I create a new profile and complete chapter 1 again it jumped me to chapter 3. When my device died and continued on my profile again it started me on chapter 2. I still beat the game but THAT glitch was a mindf*
Holding one star back but I do want to eventually rate full score for this app, as the previous seasons were so amazing. However, in season 3, I almost got panic attack when I opened the app where I did not see my profile. But then when I restarted the app, my profile reappears. Not sure what the issue was, and I couldn’t reproduce anymore. I do hope this can be fixed and be polished to a perfect state. I’m more than happy to provide information if it can solve the issue.
Is there a reason that the game does not save on closing? I have had to restart chapter 2 several times, including having to start from the beginning. It has become very frustrating and I am tempted to put the game away, even though I have thoroughly enjoyed all the games that the studio creates. The games are marvelous and interesting, therefore I would like to find the solution the this problem. Thank you.
Played the previous games in the series and was not disappointed in the finale. Loved the story and the puzzles were easy at times and then frustrating at other points until you figured out what in the world you had to do! Haha. Allowed me to forget about all my daily problems for the past week by concentrating on this game when I had the time. Which became nightly after work!
This has by far been one of my favorite games alongside The Room Series. I think it is great for the inquisitive mind and I enjoyed the storytelling aspect of the game. There are definitely moments when the non player scenes seem to drag on. And for some odd reason the audio stopped working mid game despite my IPAD audio working perfectly well on other apps. All in all I HIGHLY RECOMMEND…these games got me through COVID boredom and I replay them all the time!
I have played the previous games and enjoyed them-definitely a cut above most games. However, this one was a disappointment. The puzzles were often nearly impossible to solve(I love challenging puzzles, but, really??). And, part of the reason some of the puzzles were difficult was it felt rather glitchy. It just felt to me like I was moving from one nearly impossible task to the next, so, not enjoyable. The graphics were lovely, but, aside from that, I may not be able to finish this one, which is disappointing.
I have now completed all three and can say that this last one is the best. The graphics are unsurpassed. What makes this one vastly different from #2 is that they don’t let too much time go by before giving you clues that really assist you in solving a puzzle. With the 2nd one one could easily become frustrated enough to give up. Loved it. Hope these developers will do more.
I purchased it because I love these type of games. Divine II was excellent and intriguing. This game I feel added unnecessary running back and forth to help give the game length. I had to use a lot of hints, and I’m usually very good at these games. It just didn’t flow well. I have to give them credit for having talented story writers and artists. Production quality is excellent. Unfortunately this time they just didn’t get thing flowing well. If they release another, I’ll continue to give them my support.
I have played all of the House of Da Vinci games and was excited to see they had a new one available! It did not disappoint! Beautiful graphics, a nice soundtrack and a good storyline. Puzzles that make you think hard but aren’t so horribly difficult you can’t solve them. I hope they make another one!!! I am already done with this one and need another fix!
Some where towards the end of the game is a puzzle that has ya operating a pair if scissors while moving some blocks on a 4 sided board that has 4 blocks on a 6 tile field using only 2 of the tiles as a goal to fit the correct 2 blocks in place. Confusing ? Yes. Sorry. I got stuck on the third part of four. There is a limited possibilities and I did try them all in order to get the scissors unlocked to cut the cord so I could move on to the forth part of the puzzle. Stuck on the third. Otherwise a most awesome series of games. Has a plot that makes ya try to remember those history lesson most of us ignored. No really, this game actually has a plot line. Go figure. The puzzles are either mind bending or so totally obvious that ya want to kick yourself for not getting the joke on the first try. Really good fun here. Enjoy.
Until I hit a roadblock near the end of Chapter 8 with the “light emanating” device - a totally frustrating, unintuitive puzzle that even the hints and walkthroughs couldn’t help me understand. Game was great until then, but I decided to delete the app and will stop buying games like this again. A good challenge is fun, but incomprehensible puzzles for which no help is readily available are just frustrating.
From the first moments I was frustrated by how difficult it is to move and look around. Some objects have very limited perspectives — but guess what, some of them you have to look at the back of to solve, even though it seems like the perspective would be locked like so many places. Though the first one of the series didn’t bother me too much, this one makes it clear that the designers ought to be copying what works in the Room series much more closely. This is just an awkward and frustrating disappointment in comparison.
Overall a spectacular game! We did run into one glitch after the chess pieces and next to the color tiles. (We clicked on the door and ended up in a black room we couldn’t get out of, but we restarted the chapter, avoided the door until after the puzzle and all was well.) Graphics were next level and the puzzles were challenging. We give it all the stars.
I got 11 hours of very satisfying game play. I knew I would not be disappointed! Graphics are amazing as always, decently challenging but not infuriatingly so. The only thing I think this latest release was missing was the more complex machinery we are so accustomed to from prior releases. No complaints! I just wish I could erase all memory of these games from my head so I could play them again & again.
Loved the whole series of house of davinci, and they just get better as they go along. The voices are fun, the animation astounding, the puzzles diverting. Thank you for creating a game that doesn’t stress the player with imminent threats of death or attack. I like being able to take all the time I need to think about the puzzle or to enjoy the artwork. Can’t wait for your next project, blue brain.
The Best….. I have played all the House of da Vinci games. The developers are amazing. The scenes, dialogue, graphics, plot, background music/sound effects and those outstanding puzzles! The characters move throughout the story so effortlessly. The story has an enriching historical background. A refreshing change from other games. This was an exciting masterpiece of different and difficult puzzles ! I enjoyed working my way through them. I was challenged. I was grateful for the extra help because I needed it sometimes. I have trouble distinguishing right from my left. A small learning disability. Every transition was done so smoothly. Hats Off to you all. Now, please create another venture! I love a good puzzle! I was about 75% done with this game. I didn’t play for a few days. When I tried to pick up where I was my profile was gone. All that time, all those puzzles, I have to do all over again. How infuriating!! I want my money back or my progress back. I feel like I wasted my money on this one. I’ve been playing these games from the beginning. Update: Regarding the response, it was never set up to sync with iCloud. Because this fix came a few days after my data was lost, I had started a new profile to play the game. It's all gone now and I’m even more disappointed.
