I had to take time to write in thanking Dr Bradley Baurain for His devotionals for July 2023 which focus is on the Gift of the Word of God. My wife and I have been reading Today in the Word for the past couple years along with the Scripture associated with the devotional. When we complete the devotional we use it to form our prayer that precedes the devotional as we pray for our daily needs and gratitudes. It has been the greatest blessing in our life during this time. Dr Baurain's focus on the gift of God's Word has been clearly taught and thought provoking as well as life changing for us. I am a student myself at 58 at an online college and just want to thank Moody Bible Institute for providing resources like this to help us not just to be informed of the great truths of His Word but to help us be transformed by the renewing of our mind. If you are considering which devotional resource to use, Today in the Word is my recommendation because it actually applies Scripture accurately and effectively so that your life will without a doubt be impacted by it. God bless Today in the Word!
I have been reading this devotional the past 3 years and have found nothing that comes close out there. Each day it’s written in such a way that is not only full of wisdom and truth that I feel God is directly guiding me, but I learn so much about how those in the Bible who have come before us have lived. Their problems, doubts and worries have come alive to me. And isn’t that what it’s all about? We Christians sometimes think we are unique in what we face in this world, these times and situations are too different from biblical times. But, even as our Lord has knitted us to be unique, the problems we face as humans are no different; just the time in history. Today in the Word shines a light, God’s light and wisdom for all of us. Thank you Moody Bible Institute that your writers seek God’s spirit each day before they sit down and write these. What wisdom, insight, strength and encouragement we are provided with each day. May God continue to bless the work they have been entrusted to do.
The secret to success is in your daily routine, I’ll read the devotional, and listen to moody radio, throughout the day, everyday. This helps keep me honest, hard working, and equipped to take on the devil in his playground here on earth. If I get busy and can’t sit down and read it I’ll listen to the devotional with my headphones during a workout, or in my car speakers. There’s really no excuse to not stay in the spirit, especially with all this technology, I love it. If your stuck on antisocial media watching the worldly debate between democrat and republican, give it a rest. By the way for all my white evangelicals, Jesus is not a European white person. He’s from the Middle East. Make sure all you white evangelicals pray to the right one, not the alt right, all white Jesus that most fake Christian’s who don’t know suffering, pray too!
Read or Listen; take notes; track progress; Bible Access!
Great way to begin the day in God’s word with a focused devotion that studies a theme or book of the Bible each month. You can go back and listen to the ones you missed or hear/read it a second time and look up scripture verses right from the app! You can even take notes on your favorite parts and they are stored on the app! I can look back over several years and re-listen to past Devotionals when someone is going through a rough time and I want to encourage them. I Will remember that study on hope or facing fear, or trusting God. I love the calendar option with check marks to keep me accountable. Thank you Moody Bible Institute Faculty for your deep, sound, biblical teaching with practical application!
I just started using this App. First, the App itself is well done. I am using it on my iPad and it is both aesthetic and functional. Easy to use. The devotional content is very good. The devotions are like mini-sermons because of their depth. I like that everything I need is contained within the App. The Bible itself is embedded within the App. It has audio for both the devotion and all of the Bible. It has good questions and allows for me to keep notes on everything I learn. I have gone into the Go Deeper section and opened the PDF for the month of June and then saved it to Books on my iPad. It is nice to see everything for the month and I like to go back and highlight portions that stand out to me.
Reading the Scripture and devotional in Today in the Word has been a daily practice of mine for years and I am so grateful for it! It provides a great start to my day because even though it doesn’t take a lot of time, I’m inspired and encouraged. It’s a concise “kick start” to my day and helps me to focus on my relationship with the Lord before I become too distracted by all the responsibilities and demands of my day. It’s a concise study, but packed full of God’s truth and provides much to meditate on as the day unfolds and often leads to further Bible study as more time becomes available later in the day. The prayer at the end of each devotional always provides such good direction for me, too.
Even today’s message, reminded me, to only follow His ways in all of this life ! So many voices are giving out their advice! All may even sound good, an even be in agreement with each other! Oh how we as His children, want what we think is good advice! Let’s be always mindful to check whom is giving that advice to us ! My husband an I are Ham Radio Operators. One of the activities we take part in, is reporting about the weather conditions in our location. Like when a major thunderstorm is headed into our are areas! If we have not been tuned into what we are seeing, then our information back to the area & the National Weather Service , for our area will act on what wasn’t truth ! So, whom are we His Children so tune into, that we really want to hear coming through to us? Will we disregard the false report, to be still , listen to follow only His advice ! You don’t want to be caught in the on coming storm !
Thank you for this app. It is a big blessing in my life. The daily devotions are enriching my life daily . It is my personal Bible study in the mornings. I am going closer to God each day by doing my devotions each morning before I start the day. Thank you for this Bible study each day. It is a big blessing in my life and it keeps me reading the word of God daily in the name of Jesus. Thank you for all that you do. Please continue to share this word with each of us through this app each day, in the name of Jesus. God bless you in all that you do in Jesus name amen.
I have been reading Today In The Word for about 20 years. This app is good in so many ways, but there are two things I’d like to see changed in/on it. First; I’d like to be able to copy parts of it to use for the messages I creat to send to my family. I have to leave the app, go to Moody’s online site so I can copy pieces to use. Second; I can’t seem to find “Today with Mark Jobe” or other opening pages with ease. I surely hope thus can be done, as it’s my favorite devotional of all time and would save me much time on my phone, when I don’t receive my devotional in the mail. Thank you so much, Lorraine Grasso
Being Kind creates a beautiful life! Thank you Jesus for teaching me how and why we all need to be kind. When I’m kind to anyone they are kind to me. As far as I’m concerned that creates the best life ever! I truly believe that being kind teaches others how to be kind as well. This day and age I see a lot of upset and mad people however with my kindness it takes them out of that and they’re kind right back. I always try help people as well. Helping others makes me sooo grateful, it gives me peace and joy in the name of Jesus! Amen 🙏
I absolutely love how this app is set up. I enjoy the Scripture link each day with the devotional and the ability to take notes. The app unfortunately has some glitches for me. Somehow l can’t access the devotions for February 1-4. I was only able to start the month of February on the 5th. The calendar view won’t let me go back and the devotional view from January 31st won’t let me go forward and from February 5th won’t let me go backwards. I’d love to access those missing days because this is the best devotional app I’ve ever found.
I start each morning with a devotional time. I use Today in the Word to start and then dig deeper with something else on my own. I appreciate they mix of Bible book and subject studies. For longer passages I use the read aloud option for the scriptures and for short passages I read it in my own. I also like the link to the monthly features found in the printed copy - President’s corner and Practical Theology. The option of listening or reading is pleasing too - I like to mix it up.
The subjects chosen for this devotional give hope, courage and stability. It is easy sometimes to lose sight of just how powerful God truly is and the fact that we have nothing to fear because He is in charge if we will let Him be. I start my morning with this devotional and it is truly uplifting! I really like that it has a place for “ notes” when I’m done reading. It allows me to reflect and journal on what I have just read. Thank you for making this available to all!
I read this each morning and pray. If I forget to read it, I go back to the day I miss. I thank all the moody bible teachers who take time out of their busy schedules to decipher the Books of the Bible and present it in a way that is understandable to modern day readers like myself. Today in the word is food for the soul and no one should leave their home before first reading it daily and incorporating it with daily prayer. Once again, thanks to all of the moody teachers.
I’m so happy that I downloaded this app. It’s easy to navigate. I thoroughly enjoy the devotionals. Every month it’s a different person explaining God’s word. I love that I can read the text they’re discussing. I have been using this app for three months now. I also like that if I skip a day, I can go back to the calendar and check which day I missed and it easily takes you to that day’s devotional. Highly recommend it.
I read every night before sleeping and it’s my closing moment of prayer and meditation of God’s word. I’m grateful for the app because it makes it easy for me to find my daily devotional, since sometimes I couldn’t find the hard copy. It’s great because the phone is more lit and allow me to read instantly and with easy. I hope more people will take advantage of this great resource, May all be done for the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It was PHENOMINAL! I try to get everyone I know on today in the Word! It is so tremendously important for Christians to be in the word of God, memorizing meditating and studying to show themselves approved to The Father! Unless that goes on there isn't sanctification, maturity and service (righteousness) going on! I don't know how God is going to handle that issue when we all get to Heaven but I'm positive He has it settled. Love and pray for all you gals and guys! Keep up the great work! K. Terry Doughman
I understand where Matthew coming from. “Who me? You want me to be one of your disciples? Oh that is amazing Jesus because no one wants to associated with me. I am a tax collector, a sinner. Thank you for saving me!” I believe that EVERYONE needs Jesus, but unless our pride is totally taken down and we admit we are in need of him we will not be able to see our need. Thank you oh dear Jesus for laying down your life for me, for all. Amen.
I’ve appreciated this devotional for many years now. I didn’t start using it daily until two years ago and now it’s a regular part of my more focused time with the Lord in the early mornings. I like hearing the audio as well as the layout of studying the current verses of the day. Please thank the Moody Team as well as the professors who for put all this together for us.
Today in the Word is part of my every morning. It is a wonderful way to hear and be able to understand the scripture. The explanations and examples used are relevant and easy to comprehend while staying true to the Gospel. I thank God for folks who know the Bible and can teach it. I also appreciate the non commercial and the fact you aren’t trying to sell anything. Thank you!
I love reading these devotions they are so uplifting and perfect for my soul. I can relate to all of them in so many ways and share them with people who need to read the gospel truth. It is so refreshing to have an app like this on my phone to be able to read it everyday and say the prayers afterwards. God bless you for having such a wonderful and inspiring message such as this on this app.
Thank you for developing such an easy to use app. I love Today in the Word! Have been a reader and supporter for years. Please note that there is a small glitch in the app for last few days. The Bible passage for each day is not opening. I can see the scripture for the day and read the devotional but the Bible section corresponding to the devotional will no or open. The Bible is also not opening (where you can search for a passage).
Great Daily devotional App and I’ve been using it for the last 2 years. I like that you can mark a devotional completed after studying it to keep track. Can also take notes. Would love to give it 5 stars but it has been very glitchy lately where you get error message that devotional isn’t available today. Hopefully it gets corrected and I can revise my rating to 5 stars from 4 stars.
I have really appreciated this devotional over the past 5 years or so. Having a month-long goal keeps me focused, and having a variety of authors keeps it fresh. This month’s study in Nehemiah is especially interesting, tying in with Ezra and Esther so far keeps the timeline in mind. God’s character is consistent throughout, and His truth shines through in every devotion.
I find the daily devotional very beneficial. Despite being retired and age 70 I find it difficult to budget my time between day to day tasks and ongoing projects. My health demands frequent 5 - 10 min. breaks and the morning read and occasional re-read during the day puts current events as they crop up into proper perspective. Jim B.
Thank you for making Today in the Word available! I am a Moody alumn and so appreciate the daily insights. There is one issue w the app that needs to be resolved. When I want to listen to it, I have to keep my finger on the page instead of being able to set it down on my nightstand. This seems to be an issue w the app itself as other devotional apps (such as Our Daily Bread or Lectio 365) do not have this problem.
Today in the Word is a scripture based daily devotional that brings the Bible to life. I start my day with the scripture reading followed by the commentary. I really enjoy the audio commentary when it is present. August was focused on King David as told through the Book of Samuel. The vivid details kept we thinking about his story all month. Great job by everyone involved with this app.
I am a retired ordained minister in a large denomination and am aquainted with denominational materials, which I use in my devotions, but I especially enjoy using Today in the Word every day. It enriches my spiritual walk, and very often deepens my understanding of the Scriptures.I regularly recommend it to people in the Bible classes I teach at church to deepen their spiritual walk with the Lord. Rev. Johnny Edwards
I changed to using this daily devotional each day after using other devotionals. The thing I really liked about this devotional was there was a good amount of Bible reading along with the lesson. But it seems like in the last week or so the quantity of Bible reading has been reduced significantly. I hope that is not the case moving forward. Bible reading is so important along with the lesson. Thanks for what you do.
Devotional reading is Scripture – strong. In concise fashion, it illuminates God’s Word and offers counsel for practical application. The prayer prompt is helpful, too. I especially like that each month uses a different author who has a different style and perspective. The online version offers additional help not available in hardcopy.
I love this app BUT, I don’t like the way we now have to select book and chapter. It used to be that we could see all books and then all chapters. Now I have to scroll to all of them. I also don’t like that recently the “my devotions” is scrunched up in the menu and I can’t get to it. What went wrong?
Absolutely love the Today in The Word app. It’s been a part of my daily devotion for years now. Great teaching and filled with an encouraging message to grow my faith. I only wish it had a dark mode feature so that I could read at night 😊. I highly recommend this app.
I have been using Today in the Word for several months and really enjoy the daily engagement in Scripture that is offered. The insights and prayer that are offered after reading the daily Bible passage are informative and reflective. The app itself works great and have never experienced any technical issues.
I truly enjoy the Verse of the Day. It also comes as a voice output so you can just listen rather than read. The Bible also have a listen option. It has soft background music to set the mood. If you are looking for an app the feast daily on a short verse/topic, this is it. I'm so happy I found this.
I received a post card in the mail about this app and decided to try it. I have another app that I’ve used for years and now this is turning into my new favorite Bible app! I love the devotions and how you can listen to the audio and read along. Love the dig deeper section too! This is an awesome app! Thank you Moody Bible Institute for creating this app!!!
The devotional itself is excellent. For reading, however, gray ink on a white background is not so good. I’ve noticed that this color scheme is the rage these days everywhere in the digital world. However, why not just use black font, which is much easier to read? Make the ink black for the text of the devotional please, and I’ll give it 5 stars.
TTW is a devotional with substance. I appreciate the meaty portion of scripture each day along with insightful and challenging insights from gifted teachers. This is balanced with encouragement and a call to action using scripture within context. I favor this devotional over many others because some have gods teaching but left me hungry for God’s word.
My wife and I both enjoy reading this devotional, and the only downside is I usually listen to it on my way to work. The problem with this is that they don’t read out the verse first, and the reading does not exactly follow the written devotion. So I now have to wait until I get home to read it to myself.
Never have I felt more connected with God‘s word then being able to turn and at any moment have a verse or lesson available finding a deeper walk with our savior is the most important thing in life never fail to search for it you will find it
Today in the Word has been part of my begin the day for several years. I have come to count on TW to teach me what God wants to reveal to me. I have found the month long teaching topics to be excellent. Great content and well written. I am coming to be familiar with Moody teachers. I am grateful for this ministry.
On so many days these devotional passages and scripture speak to exactly what I needed for that day or time and place. God truly knows what we need and when we need it and provides. I have been able to share these devotionals with my adult children and friends
I absolutely love this man’s contribution to Today in The Word. I actually love all those who write in the daily readings. It seems I really look forward to Mr Baurain and get excited for the month. I cannot go a day without opening the app with my bible and study up on what I’ve read. I give Today in the Word, all the people behind the scenes, the app, and certainly God 5 stars!!! Please keep doing what you do y’all have brought me up closer to God and created an absolutely unquenchable thirst for an intimate relationship with our Father. I love all y’all very much may God continue to shower his love on us. Greg Anderson
I can’t wait to receive mind, because it is a lifestyle for me now, to have daily devotion. Today in The Word is ALL I desire first thing before I head out to work. To commune with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Moody Institute thank you for this awesome & powerful devotional. May The Lord continue to bless your ministry in Jesus name. Min. Harry Allen
Hi , oh myGod , help me believe in you that you can heal people, truth someone you met on phone but not in person who he say worship you. I do believe in this person every one saying not to but my heart say yes. I need to understand the word and definitions of a Christian. I need God in my life. I want to worship God with my heart and soul.
My husband and I both are strong believers. He has used this app longer than I. I started studying with this app so I could spark conversations with him about the daily devotion. I have shared the app with many. I’m currently trying to get my older grandsons (13,10) to read it. So easy. Verse, Bible, application right there. Minimal time. Easy to meditate. The writers / professors are amazing!!!! I have enjoyed all of them and their unique style of writing. It is perfectly complimented with the Moody commentary and of course all the daily Moody Radio teachers!!!!
I am so grateful to have Today in the Word on my phone. I rarely read the ones sent in the mail and this app is a wonderful opportunity for me to get in God’s Word. I can now forward Today in the Word to those who may not have otherwise received it. Thanks Moody Bible Institute!
I have used the printed version for a number of years. I now prefer the digital version. I always have my phone with me and if I need to wait I can read the current or previous devotion. I enjoy a theme for the month vs random scripture with a devotion
This is great app that is easy to use. I love that for each devotion, you can easily see the passage it’s based off of and that it includes a prayer at the end. Great wisdom in content and so convenient that there’s no excuse to not be in the Word daily for me. Thank you team!!
I enjoy getting the daily devotional but have been experiencing “ Trouble getting the devotional” literal notice, for the past three days…. Is it the App itself or do I need to do something on my end? The notification appears immediately and I’m not able to do much else. Also, as a comment, I’d like to be able to read the related passage each day within the app. I know this does not include a Bible, but it would be so much beneficial if we could read the daily portion of scripture right from TOdayintheWord Thank you. Nine
I have read your devotional for many years and love your latest update. However, since I am not a great reader I would love it if you would read what is written exactly as it is written. It would be very helpful. Thank you so much so getting me more into God’s word! Pat L.
