These are great lights and the app is easy to use
I love twinkly lights but I can’t afford many of them, lol. The app is easy to use and I use it heavily around Christmas time. I use it to make my own designs and use the preset ones. Plus I edit the preset ones to change the colors. I’ve even uploaded pixel gifs and created my own designs. The only issue I have been having lately with the app is the playlist option will sometimes act up. Sometimes I can go back to my playlist and add another design with no issues but other times it will give me an error msg and not let me, then all of the designs will disappear from the playlist and i will have to re-add all the designs again. Sometimes the playlist will stick on one design and I will have to reinstall all of the designs and the app will say I need to delete all the previous designs from the memory in order to add new ones. So, the playlist feature can be glitchy. If you set it and forget it it’s fine but if you want to edit and add designs it gets glitchy. Otherwise I’m happy with the app. I do wish there were tons more presets but since we can upload gifs and create our own, that holds me over while I wait for new presets.

I’ve had my Gen I prelit tree for 3 years now. Still works great and never had any issues with the app (although i wish the preview options weren’t the boxes as they used to be the tree shape)Just recently got a Gen II string for the outside of my house. again seamless pairing and really easy to switch back and forth from my tree. The recent update has messed EVERYTHING up though (am running iOS). The app was stuck in an endless loop of ‘compiling effects for device’ so i tried deleting and reinstalling the app. now my tree and string won’t connect or re-pair with the app. Sounds like it’s an issue iOS people are having with the latest update. would be nice to have it patched as I am dead in the water at this point with both my devices. Giving 5 stars because Twinkly has been great to me for many years and i’ve never had a problem until now but they need to fix this issue with the app.

Great product, poor reliability, poor service
Last year I bought 4 sets of twinkly lights for holiday decorations, and had them up for roughly 3 months. This year when I went to put them back up for the holidays, one set was completely dead. Thankfully it was just inside the 1 year warranty and was replaced. Another set died a few weeks later, and since it was just over the warranty period, I was out of luck, and twinkly refused to replace it. While I understand that a 1 year warranty is fairly standard, the fact that I only got 3 months of use from the product before it failed is frustrating. Additionally, having half of the 4 sets I purchased fail in such a short time means that I won’t be adding any more of this product to my home as I had originally planned. In addition to the issue above, twinkly support actually told me “we are just a brand, you bought it from a retailer and it’s their job to replace it for you”. Which is… nonsense. This is YOUR product, you should stand behind it. Trying to push responsibility on the retailer is absurd. I won’t be purchasing any more of these lights, and I’ll recommend my friends don’t either. Throwing away a $200 purchase after just a few months of use is ridiculous. In response to the developer response: I’m not asking you to honor replacement outside of warranty. I’m asking you to make a product that last longer than 3 months of use. That seems fair.

No support
When it works, it’s cool. That’s all I can say that’s positive. Despite being set up correctly, and having high WiFi speed, the app loses connectivity whenever you want to make a change-whether that’s with your lights or with your WiFi network. I am constantly losing connection to WiFi, and it is NOT a WiFi issue, I have had to reset my Twinkly back to factory settings three times now, and I don’t have the ability to “apply” effects that I have created. The biggest problem with all of this is that there is no one to call or chat with. The only way to get help is through email. (Or you can look up their faq’s-but be careful-I tried following one of those, and a follow up email said “oops sorry-the wrong information is on our site!” AND the last I checked, that info is still there months later). In addition, if you are in the states, the time difference is huge, so you will never get a prompt response, and OFTEN the response does not acknowledge info that you’ve already given them. It can take a couple of weeks to resolve what should be a simple issue. These lights have cool capabilities, but the interface of the app with them is terrible. I would not spend this much money again. It’s a shame too, because I would buy more strings if the app functioned better.

If not for the app...
We love the tree. It’s an exciting talking piece during the holidays. However, this review is for the app. It’s remarkable that going into 2021 a company can’t have a functioning app. This app has so many glitches, bugs, it’s more frustrating than anything else. After downloading all the different light sequences, creating a playlist (greatest option the app offers), creating your own custom sequences, setting the on/off the app literally goes haywire after a week. The playlist disappears. The downloads disappears. The settings revert back to the beginning. The on/off button doesn’t work. I can’t really put into words how frustrating. You take the time to create custom lights and a week or two later it’s gone. Family comes over and just when you want to show all the displays, the app suddenly doesn’t work. To fix this you have delete the app, re-download and set everything up from scratch. Just be prepared to do that a few times. Oh and the firmware update seems to fail every time there is an update. The app also gets stuck refreshing. The only answer for all these issues is incompetence, laziness on the techs part. It’s a real shame, because this has such great potential.

Real 5 Star Review!
When spending the amount of money on the Twinkly tree, I was more skeptical on the actual tree rather than what it can do however, I was pleasantly surprised on how full and beautiful the tree is and it’s only 7.5 feet! I can only imagine how the 9 foot tree looks! The app works with the lights in the tree and I’m sorry others are having problems... my tree and lights are perfect! Quick set up and quick WiFi set up as well! The only thing that was time consuming was the fluffing of the tree branches, after that, everything was quick and easy! You have to play with your unit to learn how to create your own design and make the lights dance to your music, you can also just activate the sequences patterns and add music which looks like the lights are in sync with the music you play. The best tree ever! Can’t wait to add Twinkly lights all over my home, indoor and outdoor! Also can’t wait for future Twinkly products! Awesome product!

Awesome App!
I saw this app last Christmas, and when we knew we wanted to get another Christmas tree this year, I knew I wanted a Twinkly one! We ended up spending $500 for our tree—a huge price to pay—but so worth it! I was able to easily set up the tree after figuring it out for a bit. I wasn’t able to connect our tree to our Wi-Fi, but our Wi-Fi is the newest and other things don’t connect to it. However, I was able to direct connect it. The options are SO cool and you can make all different color show options. It’s seriously the coolest thing ever. I did have an issue connecting to Alexa—as did several people, if you look at the skill rating on Alexa. I reached out to the company and they were SO responsive and so helpful. They ended up fixing my problem and now the tree works with Alexa. Best. Purchase. Ever. Greatest customer service ever!!!

Firmware finally updated
UPDATE: I’m updating my review from one star to 4 stars. After the 27th attempt, the firmware finally updated. After the update, I was able to map lights. I’ve had this tree for over 3 years and have never had this problem. It works now. The customer service team responded to my review which was much appreciated. I have done everything to update this app -and it will not update. The app keeps notifying me that the firmware needs to be updated. I’ve tried at least 20 times only to receive an error. I’ve deleted the app, I’ve deleted my account. I downloaded the updated version only to see that the version had not changed it is still 2.8.15 instead of the latest version. What is it I’m doing wrong? Please assist.

Beautiful lights if you want one setting.
Update: After sending 3 emails to support I finally received a response back asking several questions. I answered with the information I knew and then no response. In the meantime I was able to find the answer I needed after googling and looking through every page of the Twinkly website. Now I have a beautiful display of lights. There for I’m moving my stars from 1 to 3. If support had been faster and more helpful I would have moved my stars higher. Original post: Installed the lights 4 days ago and can’t get the app to work. It continues to tell me to update the firmware. So I go into the app and try only to get a message saying switch to WiFi interface. I try logging onto the Twinkly WiFi only to tell me the password is wrong. The only password I can find for Twinkly is Twinkly2019*. So unless you like one setting don’t buy! Over priced for that!! App support answer the two emails my husband already sent you!

Worked better last year
Since updating the firmware on my lights, it appears I can only connect to the lights from the app ~1 time after plugging them in, if I try to connect again an hour later it shows the lights as unavailable. Really takes the fun out trying different designs and patterns. At least the lights still function even if the app won’t connect. Support was responsive but unhelpful. Previous review: My expectations were a bit low given the reviews, but so far everything has worked well. I grouped two strings, mapped them, and have been able to apply effects. WiFi-isms were not a problem. Didn’t use the fancy iOS WiFi setup stuff that some devices do, so you have to type in your password, but joined my Eero network without issue. I do wish the library of effects had more options that were on the subtle end of the spectrum. Just give my a dozen different twinkle options with slightly different color palette and speed options.

Not ready for prime time
Can’t wait for developer to make this app functional. Absolutely brilliant idea, very frustrating in current form. Really like to customization potential, but multiple times I got 90% of the way through setting up my custom colors etc only to have the entire thing disappear. No option to do a partial save, and once you have saved it you can not edit or modify it in any way. Would also be nice if it could tell you how many lights you have not programmed when customizing. Even better would be if the program had a randomization feature that I could set by percentage, i.e. I want to do an even distribution of 10 custom colors, would like to set each to 10% of the bulbs distributed randomly over the tree. Saw the FX function mentioned as having been released; having that would be some Improvement. They have a way to go, I only hope that they add this sort of functionality to Gen 2 devices. Will be ticked off if I have to buy a new tree to get this thing to work as advertised.

The app needs so much more improvement
Considering the price you pay for the product the app is very poor. 6 years in and the effect library is still deficient. The effects you can make on your own are very limited as well. You can’t really for example draw animation, or make settings from which angle the effect should begin, how it should move and so on. This is probably one of the most annoying things, that you can’t position where on the object you are drawing your effect, or even where to position effects from the store. For example I wanted to place countdown , but it ended up being on the opposite site than I needed it to be. Also I do not understand why isn’t there a possibility to make multiple timers, or multiple playlists. For instance if I want to play one playlist in the morning and another one in the evening. Hope to see much more improvement!

When it works…
…it’s great. However, I have lately not been able to apply my custom settings, which is pretty much a main feature of Twinkly, no? I am forced into either using premade effects or a solid color. I build the effect, get it all perfect, save it. Looks great. BUT, when I press Apply in my custom effect, it just turns off Twinkly entirely, and I then have to turn it back on. When I turn it back on, it’s not my effect, just back to the default again. I can apply all preset effects just fine, but not my own. I have reset the device, I have closed and reopened the app and logged back in, I have re-mapped all the lights. Currently throwing my hands up in frustration with this issue, which I have to assume is app-based.

Super buggy
I absolutely love the tree and lights when it works....which it will for a couple weeks. Several issues with the app, I don’t understand why it is so hard to NOT have a buggy app in 2020. Seems it’s more about laziness than anything else to me. Controller isn’t the highest quality either. My app keeps disconnecting to controller, also 90% of the time it has an error saving the playlist, which is the coolest part of the whole tree. Today more than half my effects disappeared and wouldn’t let me download any new ones, which I had downloaded all available already, but they had disappeared from my list. I think giving this app 2 stars is generous. The app is 95% a part of the motive to buy this tree if you can’t get a playlist or have the tree do effects there is zero reason to have it and the app is the only way to really do it unless you want to be stuck with only a couple effects. This company should really get with the program and FIX your app!!!!

Updates with the app have killed this product.
Last year, the app worked pretty well: now, it’s abysmal. 3D mapping doesn’t work at all. If you complete more than 2 reference photos, the app stalls, freezes and this stops. A lot of the downloaded presets don’t work and won’t even show on the preview page. I was going to purchase more and get the pro line. Now I’m considering a return. The tech could be great, but the app makes these worthless. Original post: I can see where there would be problems with this app. It does freeze from time to time and needs more options for static or twinkling lights. It works well with second generation but again the app is somewhat clunky and freezes. I’m excited to see what this company can do in the future. Pre-lit garland and wreaths that operate on batteries would be awesome. Even ice sickle battery lights would be great. Bottom line, I think that people that have 1st gen lights, as those that have the pre-lit trees, are having the most issues. Buying 2nd gen lights, you shouldn’t have that much problem.

Lights great app no
Second Xmas season with a balsam hill twinkly tree and my fear of the app causing lots of problems is already happening. Last year was ok but this year is a nightmare. First it constantly disconnects, every single time I open the app it has to search for the device, add it, then it wants me to remap it all so I can just turn the thing on or off. Make turning the lights on and off the tree a 5 minute experience each time. It lost all the custom effects I made last year. And I convinced myself to buy it because there is a box with a button to switch through effects so I figured even if/when the app and company become obsolete it would still work but the preset effects are horrible! It’s for a Christmas tree and not a single preset effect is just plain white or colored they’re all animated effects that you’d never put on a tree. The animation stuff is great and really cool but not what you want on the tree 24/7

Very Pretty Lights, but some app improvements...
My family and I just got this tree yesterday, and we love it (especially the rainbow setting)! I was wanting to create my own design, but the app makes this really inconvenient. First off, the tree lights aren’t easily accessible. Instead of showing multiple sides, it shows the front and the lights on the other side are just blurred out. Another thing is that if you want it animated, you have to click the play button and then basically draw one dot at a time if you want it detailed. I feel as though it should be some kind of frame by frame animation style thing, or even simpler, making it a square. If you look at the presets, they are displayed in a square pattern with cubes. This would make creating a custom design much easier and I feel as though it should be implemented into the app.

A new dimension for holiday lights
These are the best lights I have ever used. I have been using standard white heavy cable lights for 20+ years. These lights will replace that way to light a tree. Very lightweight and easy to string. There is a learning curve to get the app to work. For newbies skip mapping. Just use the preprogrammed offerings in the app. The playlist is a great way to showcase the effects and you can custom the time each will run. I think these lights will pop more on light colored trees. Especially white. A white iridescent tree might really be a stand out. These lights will change the prejudice of artificial trees and make it more popular than ever to have a tree. The lights allow a holiday for every one whether you celebrate Christmas Hanukkah Kwanza or The Solstice. It’s the joy of bringing light inside. Happy holidays!

Blown Away!
I’ll admit...we were a little skeptical when we purchased these lights. We were fully expecting them to work of course, but not really expecting a WOW factor. When we strung the lights around the tree and downloaded the app, we crossed our fingers and hoped for the best. We are absolutely speechless! The quality, the colors, the brightness, the customizations...it’s far beyond what we ever hoped for. The technology is awesome! Our friends and family have raves about our tree and we continue to love the lights just as much as the first night. We treat ourselves to a new look/effect most every day. How cool is it to have a whole new look of color scheme whenever you want?? It’s amazing! Kudos Twinkly! We look forward to purchasing more strands soon!

Clearly something very wrong with software
I would tell everyone with the cash to spare to buy this tree/these products. The lights are phenomenal. HOWEVER... about an hour after installing app and gaining control over lights on tree I was prompted to update the firmware. Biggest regret of my life I think. The app is now useless and I can control nothing with it. There is nothing within the app that helps me make sense of this. I have no doubt there exists a fix somewhere somehow but they obviously have software troubles overall and in this day and age it’s hard to excuse a lack of effort put into making sure your premium product works as intended for people. Don’t obscure the problem...at least put something in your FAQS. I’ll troubleshoot this more when I have time. That’s why I got an artificial tree, right? Because I’m full of free time leading up to Christmas.... The lights are gorgeous though.

Frustrated.
Spent a fortune on a new tree. The lights operated their preprogrammed operations but the tree would never even see the Twinkly WiFi. So, we reset the unit per the directions. After that, the tree wouldn’t operate properly at all, even the preprogrammed operations. We returned the tree and got another. Had the exact same problem. Finally, after trying EVERYTHING, we found that the tree would only work (and it worked perfectly) only after shutting down ALL WiFi in our home!!! We tried stepping down from 5G to 2.5 (I believe). That allowed us to finally see the Twinkly app but not connect. Obviously, having a fancy tree but not being able to have ANY WiFi in the house is not acceptable. I’m still waiting on an email from tech support of Twinkly to see if they can resolve this, but it’s looking like this tree is going back for a refund and I won’t be buying ANYTHING Twinkly again. This sort of interference should have been accounted for prior to pushing out the product.

Great
I love this app. We got the tree a few years ago, and it has been so much easier. Now we can put it up anytime we want without having to find the “perfect” tree. The app itself is great, and also really fun. The only thing is every time I set up the tree, I have to map the lights. This process takes a while each year, but i have to say, it is totally worth it. Guests love to play around with the lights, which is always fun. Not only that, but you can draw your own designs for the tree lights, including having different patterns too. Overall, this app is really great and makes setting up christmas trees a little bit easier, and the lights a lot more fun.

Expensive light die after 3 Christmas uses
This is my 3rd Christmas with these lights. They worked until one morning they wouldn’t turn on. Tree was fully decorated and they were working for about a week then one morning they just didn’t turn back on and the controller would not light up. Tried contacting company it took a week for them to get back to me then they asked me to record what I did and test some things. Which would have been ok if I didn’t write a detailed explanation of everything I already did and they offered no additional help. I have other Philips color changing lights still working after 8 years that get used everyday not just the 2 months a year for Christmas like these.

OMG... twinkly redefines Christmas Trees for me
We just love it. My kids are creating new patterns, my wife loves that she can make the lights more muted and traditional while the rest of us play with “color explosion”. Everyone gets what they want :) It has been so much fun and the tree itself is pre-wired really well with the connectors in the trunk itself! Just plug and play... literally. Only annoying part was opening up the branches as any other artificial tree. Twinkly: for gen3 find a way to make it easier to fluff the tree up! Overall, this is a next generation tree with upgraded LEDs, upgraded control schemes, upgraded wire harness and connectors, even an upgraded tree stand. We love it and hope it has the quality to stick with us for years to come.

Amazing Holiday Lights
These lights are amazing, the customer service is awesome. I have 12 sets of lights of various sizes, totaling over 4,000 LEDs. I get stopped by neighbors that tell me they love my lights and it brings joy to their day when they see them. I put them up in September for “fall” with fall colors and take them down around March around Easter. The ability to change the colors allows me to decorate for all the holidays. For anyone that loves holiday lights, these are amazing. Customer service is amazing as well, contacted them around 8pm on Sunday, They responded 4:30 am on Monday (they are in Italy) with a solution. I am impressed with all their products and services.

Almost perfect
I have a couple sets of the icicle lights and a couple sets of the string lights. I love them!! I had them all set up last year and this year I thought it would be easy just to plug them all back in and they would work right away. But I ended up having to delete all my settings from last year and added them in as new this year. Once I did that it was fine. The only reason I give them four stars instead of five stars is that the Twinkly lights are not quite as bright as the standard outdoor lights. I still love them and I’m happy I got them. I haven’t had any problems with the app or lights at all. If you set them up with the timer, you can set them and forget them.

Current updated app has problems
We have had our Twinkly lights for 4 years now. It has always been easy to scroll through the effects, test, and apply. The new app doesn’t allow this (or it isn’t working correctly). When I select an effect from the gallery, a larger screen on the app shows the effect. In past years, the effect would automatically preview in your tree. This no longer is working. I must ‘apply’ to see the effect on the lights. Also, many of the effects appear black on the screen when previewing on screen in ‘map’ mode. Even when clicking ‘apply’, nothing happens or the lights turn off. I’m on an iPhone and iPad and his happens on both versions. Frustrating! Twinkly, why did you attempt to fix what wasn’t broken? Now the app is useless!

App can’t find devices on Wi-Fi network.
We were excited to get these lights as we felt that they were good quality and the app looked like it has better development than most. Everything was great until we went to add the devices to the Wi-Fi network. The app connects to the devices, pushes the Wi-Fi credentials to the devices, but then only fails to find the devices on the network. The devices can be seen in the router on the network. They have an ip address and are pingable on the network via other computers and devices, however the app simply fails to locate them. The app should be less simplistic/user friendly and allow more advanced features like adding devices via IP address after they are on the network. Very frustrating, may have to remove all the installed lights and return them due to simply poor application functionality.

App won’t stay connected to tree
I have a tree with twinkly lights. The app is really cool in theory and for the first time you use it, but ultimately a terrible experience (at least for my Christmas tree). The issue is that the app doesn’t have any local memory for any of the effects you create, they are all tied to the product itself (in this case my tree). This would be ok if the app could maintain a reliable connection with the hardware, but it doesn’t. Every other day I come into the app as if I’ve never connected my tree or used the app. It makes me reconnect my tree and remap my lights. And then, all of the custom light shows I created are gone so they have to be recreated. I can’t even turn off my tree without unplugging it. It is possible this issue is localized to only 3rd party Christmas trees, but for that product the app is a huge disappointment.

Worth every penny
Yes they are pricey like no other lights. But I must admit the features and light show you get with this product is out of this world. They are like no other lights in the market. And the app? Amazing. You can do playlists of effects, create your own, I cannot say enough. I’ve used these lights and the app the entire year, not only for the holidays. You can customize and use these lights anywhere and for every occasion. Let your imagination flow and you will be amazed even if you have no clue what your doing. The app will guide you. Had them for three years now and they still blow my mind.

Wonderful lights, but very lacking app
One thing is for sure, Twinkly lights updated our Christmas tree to 2.0 😃 It is really magical and nothing even comes close (definitely buying another 250 set next year for the bigger tree). Now onto the bad things. App is, well, not great, not terrible😉 The layout is quite unintuitive and effect “store” is very buggy. But what I find most lacking is the ability to use Homekit or Alexa or to at least be able to turn lights on/off remotely. I also wasn’t able to get microphone to work (I have a new version), it works great in preview, but after selecting an effect there is no longer mic function available. Hopefully, the above will be added/fixed until next year💪

Best lights ever
Second year putting them up not a single one burned out. Super easy set up with the easy mode and the one that you take multiple videos of the tree. Only bad thing I can’t figure out is the count down thing it never looks like numbers. Love the colors so bright makes our tree look amazing really sets it off and everyone wants to fight over picking the colors and patterns. Helps to change the look everyday breaks up same look every year! No complaints at all even with the count down thing I probably just don’t know what I’m doing yet. (Five stars worth the price).

Worst app EVER,
The tree itself is amaze balls when it works and that’s the catch, WHEN IT WORKS, which is RARELY! It took me a week to actually connect to the Twinkly app to use it and once up and running the effects on the tree were mind blowing. I was never able to switch to my own WiFi network, Twinkly kept failing at that, but it worked great for about a week. Now I just get an error messages “cannot connect to Twinkly” and the factory reset doesn’t work so I now have a very expensive and totally worthless tree. Tech support is useless as you have to wait for someone to answer an email. This app is unstable and unreliable. BEWARE!

Room for improvement but great customer care
One of my strands was glitching like crazy after a few weeks, which is disappointing for such an expensive purchase. I contacted customer service and they responded quickly. I am glad I saved my packaging, because ultimately I was advised to return my item to the retailer as it was suspected to be a hardware issue. It was a pain to work through but I was extremely pleased with the communication and ease of return. The app could definitely use some advancements but I’m not trying to enter competitions here with a light show… there’s more than enough options and it is very easy to navigate and set up.

Save your money. Worst customer service and app.
The lights are cool... when they work. Twinkly customer service is the worst. They may correspond with you once of twice about an issue, but will stop responding. I’ve spent about a thousand dollars on these lights, and the cool factor wore off this year when half my lights stopped syncing and Twinkly stopped caring. Not to mention they overpromise and under deliver. Check out their website, you’ll notice they show a cool effects feature releasing in November, just in time for the holidays... getting customers hyped up to purchase more! But, unfortunately, the app update never came, and instead we were left with a buggy app that constantly crashed, doesn’t show the status of lights half the time, and effects show spinning logos instead of the effects that should work. Save your money... you’ll end up being frustrated!

Loved everything until latest update
It was GREAT until this morning I see my tree had not turned itself off as scheduled. I check Alexa and the tree is no longer connected. So I check the Twinkly app and when I log in, it pops up that a firmware update is needed except the words - and I assume an update button - are cut off so I cannot dismiss the notice or start the update. I literally cannot access any app features to change or shut off my tree, nor can I update. Ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the app which is going to be super annoying to have to do if that’s how it will behave every time it needs an update.

Unable to save playlists if effect names are too long
I can create a playlist of effects and edit it twice then it stops allowing me to save with an “unknown error”. If I then try to apply an effect individually, it tells me that and error (number 4) occurs. This then causes Safari on my phone to show up all black so I have to reboot. The only way I could get the tree to respond to the app is to totally factory reset the tree and re-map the lights which is a huge pain especially since that means I also have to reconfigure all of my customized effects. I hope these bugs can be fixed soon! EDIT - it turns out that if you name an effect with too many characters then you get this strange app behavior. The app should not let you name them too long. When I made the names shorter, it worked.

Mostly great but needs enhancements
I love the Twinkly lights, but I do have some suggestions. 1) show us how to create text files that we can use to author color sequences, fades, timing, pauses, etc... that we can import into the app. The custom editor isn’t all that great and for the tech savvy users, it is very clunky. This feature would allow total control over the Twinkly lights for an awesome user experience. 2) allow custom effects to be saved to a Twinkly server or even to iCloud account so they are never lost. 3) create a customer or end user submissions gallery in the effects store for item #1 4) add categories in the effects store with all the user submissions you are about to receive from items 1 and 3. 5) some of the preloaded effects like glow, have an obvious sequence end/begin glitch resulting in and observable and noticeable clunky end to the sequence that detracts from the enjoyment of the effect. 6) custom colors added to an effect are forgotten by the effect until you reselect the color, apply it, and have to once again save the effect under a different name.

Very pleased with all these lights can do
Have about 3400 Twinkly lights on my house and in yard. Takes some practice learning how to group lights and etc but once you figure it out they do tons of stuff. Have the music piece as well which works much better since the last update. Update every strand before you install or place them anywhere makes life much easier. Did not have any connection issues as described. Did have to get WiFi extenders to communicate better since lights where outside. Otherwise happy customer will be purchasing more!

Works great!
My wife and I bought this tree as soon as they were on the shelves at Walmart. And as soon as we got it home my wife had to try it out. We set it up so it could be tested. It connected to WIFI immediately with no issues. And connects to our phone every time we open it. It was put back in the box until yesterday. My wife put it back up again and everything works perfect again. I’m not sure why so many people are having issues with them. We have 1 TB internet and repeaters all over the house. So maybe that’s why it works so well. Either way it’s a great product!

Poor app design and glitchy playlist
The playlist is good but I ran into issues when trying to get the playlist to play. When I get the first effect in the playlist running it switches over to the generic playlist that it runs when you set up the device. So that is a fairly big issue. Another grievance that I have with the app is the timer system. For one it only has one timer so if you want to have it turn on and off, then on and off again in one day, you are out of luck. But another one of it’s issues is that the timer doesn’t save the original time you had set when you turn it off. But aside from this and a difficult setup the lights and the app don’t have too many issues.

Great Product, Excellent Service and Fun for entire family
We purchased our first set of Twinkly (2 boxes of 600 RGB Strings) early last holiday season and quickly expanded our collection after seeing how easy and effective these light sets are for creating show stopping holiday lighting displays. This season we more than doubled our collection and now we have thousands of Twinkly lights, inside and outside of our home. Tech support has been great when we had a few issues and they were quickly and effectively resolved.

Great Mapping Tech, Great Lights, HORRIBLE App
This company has developed some fantastic technology with camera mapping (and now 3D pixel mapping), which I sincerely love and commend. Unfortunately, they dropped the ball on just about everything else. The application is riddled with bugs. Every single time I spend hours creating effects and dialing in a look, it randomly disappears from my app and I have to start all over again. I cannot express how infuriating this is. It is a fatal flaw. They also don’t have an easy way to create basic solid color looks (like traditional white Christmas lights) and the nuances of the “create your own effect” portion of the application are clumsy and rage inducing. You lose colors after you create them. It forces you to finger paint the entire tree when you want to create a simple single color look. The list goes on. Please Twinkly...if you’re listening...fix this application. You have something great here and it’s getting ruined by very preventable and easily solvable UX/UI issues. You already did the hard part with the core technology! Now please fix the easy part. These trees aren’t cheap and there’s no excuse for this in 2020.

Needs more
The app is ok but it needs more. When you spend $1800 on a twinkly light show tree you want to make a lot of effects for you tree and the customization lacks in my opinion. Also the effect shop should have a section for just trees. When you download a effect you can’t change the colors, they need to open the effects so that you can change the downloaded effects. I love my new tree but for the cost of the tree and the cost of just the lights twinkly sells the app should be better. Like I said above it should have a lot of different preset effects for trees. I have it a 3 star because of the lacking effects and customization in the app.

Garbage- Do Not Buy The Lights
It’s funny how this app got 3 5-star reviews spoiler the 5-star reviews were faked and made by the company not made by actual users. The app doesn’t work it doesn’t connect to the internet it will only play one mode. I cannot change the mode there is so many things wrong. I can’t map out the tree because it’s not available for the newest version there is. This is by far the worst app I have ever came across it’s a waste of money to buy these so called “lights.” When spring comes along these lights will be in a bon fire and every neighbor and person I know will never buy these lights or download the app because they will hear from me and all the people I’ve told that it does not work spend your money on something that actually works. So much for having a light up Christmas tree this year.

Neat lights, surprised at limitations
There are a lot of neat effects, but surprised by the effects that are lacking. Sometimes I just want to do simple, Christmas lights, maybe chasing lights, alternate dimming, etc. but most of the effects are very showy and gaudy. You can make your own, but you're limited to solid color or sparkle, thought there'd be a lot more flexibility for everything these lights are capable of. Adding gifs seems buggy. I add a one second gif and it looks perfect in the preview, then after it's saved it's like this jittery version like the first nano second, just makes the lights look broken....

No customer support
Spent way too much on this tree, only to have it work for a while then quit. Unable to connect to the app. If the “Twinkly” WiFi shows up at all it simply says unable to connect. Most of the time it doesn’t even show up and the blue light doesn’t even come on the controller box. There is no phone number for customer support, so the only way to contact them is through a chat online, ( good luck with that). When they finally do respond they only ask about your WiFi or router ,like it’s your problem, and not an issue with their product. Then they want you to send a video of what you’ve done trying to fix it. Then they start over with the same nonsense. Save your self money and frustration,if you’ve bought one of these return it as soon as possible and get a refund

Holiday 2023 - terrible update
I have used Twinkly devices for 3+ years now. Recent app updates have rendered them USELESS. Deleting and reconfiguring devices will work with direct WiFi, but the app refuses to find the devices when added to my home network. This means no large group of lights and no synchronized map for motion effects. I have even used the python library ‘xled’ to confirm all 7 devices are alive and reporting on my network. Why won’t Twinkly’s own app see them? TWINKLY DEV TEAM: Please add an option for [add device manually] during setup. I know the IP, MAC, and device names. Your discovery process no longer works and it is RIDICULOUS to make me reset 7 devices to Bluetooth, then direct wifi, then change password, then move to home WiFi… and it still doesn’t work!

App leaves much room for improvement on squares
I recently purchased the square lights(5+1 and a 3 square extension pack) and have been happy with the performance of the light panels themselves. The app however, leaves much room for improvement as far as functionality and ease of use. You are unable to use the app to change the panel graphics remotely, which seems odd given it is connected to WiFi. There is no central place with a database of compatible gifs, no store to purchase good looking compatible content, and many of the gifs used in promotional materials won’t display in the panels without purchasing many more panels. I love the lights, but for the cost I expected a much better user experience in the app.

Need help!
We got the lights out for this year’s holiday season and everything was working great … app, the lights, lots of different options from which to choose. Then I attempted to update the firmware as recommended by the app. We have two sets of lights. During that update, one of the lights completed, and the other indicated a failure to update. Since then, only one set of lights comes on when plugged in. The other set does not come on at all. Neither are able to be controlled by the app. I removed them and wanted to start from scratch. The app can locate and connect to each set of lights, but it will not recognize my home WiFi network (correct user name and password). I cannot find any documentation on the website or the internet to fix this. Please help.
