Confused with bad reviews
We’ve had an account with UFB for about 5 months now and I have nothing but good things to say about them. We started with APY of 4.15, setting the account was super easy, finding the account took almost no effort because everything was working smoothly. Once we saw that the rate went up to 5% all it took was to text their customers service and they changed our rate for us. Easy as that. I seriously don’t understand all these people complaining because for us the experience has been nothing but amazing.

Horrific experience
After spending a great deal of time setting up this account and funding the account, I have begun the process of withdrawing all my funds from this bank. Something is just not right with them! The app is buggy, the website would not allow me to associate another bank account with this account so that I could transfer funds, they have all kinds of limits regarding fund deposits as well as withdrawals and secure messages to them are simply not responded to. I have never had such an experience with a bank! Their high interest rates that are offered are simply not worth the hassle of all the crazy rules that require a rule book. I’ve simply had it with them! Mobile deposits that I made were not accepted because I didn’t write what they “require” on the back of the check however they don’t even tell you that the check was not accepted! When a check is accepted, it doesn’t even show up on your activity right away - it doesn’t even say “pending”! One has to wait for them to send an email stating that it was accepted. I’m done with UFB- Axos bank. I hope that this helps another consumer from wasting the time I have wasted.

Be wary if you need your money out
Setup, transferring money in, and interest are great. However, I had a situation come up where I needed to pull money out. I’m telling you, I tried 5-6 different ways to pull money out and each way was rejected. First, the do not transfer the money from a savings account with any personal information so most banks will reject the transfers due to fraud (my bank actually thought it was fraud). Second, the customer service locked my account due to something they thought was fraud, I called and confirmed it was not but my card remained locked. I actually had to file a case with the BBB to get my money unlocked. Overall, not terrible but does feel a little off. Oh, The atm limit is super low and it takes DAYS to get a limit increase.

Overall Great
The interest rate is great, better than other banks for sure. For me the only downside is that there’s no quick way to send money like with Zelle but it’s not a big deal as we mainly use it for savings. I like the way the app is designed it’s very user friendly. A big downside is the customer service. I’ve had to call for several issues and the reps have never been nice. It’s seems they don’t have a clear understanding of how to troubleshoot issues. Everyone I have spoke to have been rude and unhelpful. I was better off finding a solution myself. Would give 5 stars if their customer service wasn’t so awful.

I also don’t understand all the bad reviews. Been with UFB for a year now and the rates are great…been at 5.25% for some time now. Once needed a wire out funds and that was easy as well. The app and website are good. I will say, I had to reach out a couple times to convert my account to the higher rate savings account but that was easy with a secure message on the website which they responded to and took care of immediately! Great online bank! Was with discover bank before but their rates are about 1% lower!

Avoid - 2 Months & I Still Can’t Link a Bank Account
I tried to open an account and link my bank for transferring funds, but the transaction process never works. I’ve been trying to reach someone by phone who can help me — for two months — and still cannot reach someone. I was considering closing my account as I’ve only been able to deposit $25 by my banks outbound sending system but I cannot link my account to pull the money back into my bank account, so they are going to charge me $10 to close my account and mail me a check for $25. What a horrible company and I never should have chased the 5% savings rate. BrioDirect and Ally Bank are much better options and the rates aren’t that much lower.

My experience so far
For context I use Alliant Credit Union and USAA online banking. I currently receive 3.1% interest at ACU and was interested in UFB and it’s 5% interest rate. So far both ACU and USAA have a much easier app and deposits and withdrawal transfers are immediately credited, UFB makes you pay wait 3-5 days so definitely a strike. I was able to easily add my ACU account to the UFB app but haven’t been able to add USAA even though USAA has approved UFB Direct for transfers to, go figure. Mobile app Deposits on UFB Direct are as good if not better than my other two banks… EXCEPT… When you endorse your checks if you don’t write FOR AXOS MOBILE DEPOSIT ONLY it will reject the deposit after 3-5 days. My other banks have never done that. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet and fully funded the UFB Direct account yet because I just don’t trust it enough. It hasn’t been a very perfect experience and that I can’t easily add one of my accounts is definitely a red flag to me. Still investigating and will update. So far for the additional 1.9% interest it’s not worth it.

Don’t usually do reviews but
The IOS app is terrible, constantly saying “cannot connect to server” or “Sorry our servers aren’t available”. This has been going on for 3 weeks. I want to continue with this bank due to the high APY, but lord this app is bad. Half the time the app screen is glitched clear off the screen and the other half you go to select something and it chooses something other that you chose. This is the only app on my phone that acts like this.

App glitches!!! Disappointing
Just downloaded this app, shocked to see its 5 star reviews, once downloaded to my iPhone 13 when clicking through the Q & A section it glitches on half the drop downs, when clicking the menu button top left(3 lines) couldn’t even click on Alerts to set up a few on my account. The only one that worked was the logout button. From main screen when you click “+ Tile” at top right, once it opens there’s no exit button, back arrows, the page doesn’t even properly adjust to my phones screen. So have to exit out of the app completely to get to main Home Screen! So disappointed with this app. Basically the only thing this app will do for me is to view my account balance.

Opening account is overly complex
It took forever to get the account open, and I ended up making it an individual account rather than the family trust I wanted because it was simply too complex. They want notarized documents and an upload of the full trust. I have many other accounts at other banks, and credit unions and I’ve never had to jump through so many hoops. Once the account was opened, linking outside accounts, so I could make a transfer became problematic when the link simply would not happen and eventually time out. The deposit limits seem arbitrary. I’m not sure it’s worth it for the few extra basis points in rate.

Non starter
The app starts with a cryptic error about needing to re-register. I have no idea what it’s talking about. The only options are to fix it or login. “We are unable to find an account with that criteria.” Update: The developer thinks I’m their secretary, and has no interest in fixing their app. UFB would like to paste from iTunes. “We are unable to find an account with that criteria.” This page has an error. You might just need to refresh it. Amazing customer service and simple and easy to use app
The app has all the details and options I need at my fingertips. I especially like that I can see how much interest I’ve accrued on a daily basis, how much I’ve earned YTD, and how much I earned last year. These details make using the app enjoyable and motivates me to log in every day to check my balance. Customer service is fast and easy to talk to. Keep up the great work!

Pull it together guys. Nothing screams "don't trust them with your money " better than a buggy app and huge delays in customer service responses. Whoever is in charge needs to up their game. One example (just one): show only ufb direct accounts? Okay. But every single day it resets. Stop showing my external transfer account balances as part of my assets? Thanks for telling me to delete and you'll still be able to transfer. Okay customer service. Will do. Next day I can't transfer funds. Invest in your app. Invest in your customer service training. Don't penny pinch because people have other options!

Very poor service of app and axos - the bank behind UFB
When you get the UFB/Axos account you are to make a deposit to keep your account. The website nor the app would allow me to make a deposit from my bank account that I have had for 4 years- always in good standing. Because that wouldn’t work I tried to mobile deposit a check on the app- which they said was acceptable. However, they then said my check was fraud and closed my account the next day. Now I have a perfectly good check that is endorsed to them only - as it has to be for mobile deposit and I have no where to put. So thanks for wasting my time and over complicating things for nothing.

Slow, Clunky, Outdated
This app looks and performs like it was designed for the original iPhone and hasn’t seen an update since. From irritating login issues, to difficulties linking external accounts, to EXTREMELY long wait times to transfer money into your account (6 days and counting), this app and bank fail at every basic feature you would expect of a modern online banking experience. There’s nothing more frustrating than seeing your money withdrawn from an external account with ZERO indication that it will be in your UFB account for days on end. Once my painfully slow deposit clears and I have access to my money again I will no longer be using them!

User Experience
I recently opened a money-market account with an APY of 5.25%. The process of opening an account is incredibly simple. I linked my checking account, transferred funds, and awaited the yield of interest. Overall, the app usage is robust, it’s easily navigable, and offers the benefit of convenience. Highly recommended to others to do business with this company.

Faulty App and Services
I signed up for a savings account because of the 4.21% APY, but the first almost week of having the account, it showed the APY was 0%, which made me hesitant to fund it (and im glad so). On top of that, whenever I try to fund the account, it would continuously ask me to link a bank account, which I’ve already done. My balance from the other bank is already showing through UFB, but it still wouldn’t show as an option to use it to fund. (The 5+ double verification text messages from my bank can confirm) The third thing was, the balance from my linked account is 5 days out of date. It would show me balance that I have already paid off days ago, and when I try to update it, UFB says there’s an error connecting to my bank. Fourth, the Siri help robot was of no help at all, why have it? At this point, I haven’t even been able to fund my savings account yet and I’m hoping the company deletes my account for not completing the process.

I like it. However, the transaction processes are very slow, Like takes about 2-3 weeks at least to show up in the account. Also, difficult to track interest percentage amounts. In addition to that, do not like the online chat AI here when compared to other online banking systems. Never got assistance from humans other than robo…🤖 Robo says they will transfer for more assistance to help me, but never got it.

Landscape Mode for iPad?
Typically I log into the UFB website if I’m on my iPad, but occasionally I’ll use the app as it’s faster to log in and check a balance or a transaction. Maybe it’s just a pet peeve of mine, but I typically use my iPad in landscape orientation. The UFB Direct App only seems to work in portrait. Other than that, it’s a very good bank with very competitive interest rates for savings.

No-go for me
Opened an account because of the high interest rate. It had me link an outside account so I can view all my accounts from this app. Fine. I linked the account. Then it asked me to fund this new account. It asked me again to link an account to transfer money from. Its the same account I linked before, but this time it tells me there’s an error and to try again. This error has been popping up for weeks since I opened the account. If I can’t count on this app to work when I need it to, it’s too risky for them to hold my money. Closing this account

Don’t download...
Tried this app out after creating an account. Had a huge issue where my external accounts mysteriously “disappeared” when I wanted to withdraw my money. Called in 5+ times, each person said they’d resolve it...never did get fixed. Tried accessing my accounts on the app, and on 2 separate browsers on different devices, to no avail. They wouldn’t waive the wire fee for me to send my money out that way, so I’m currently waiting on a check in the mail (even that is costing me a $10 fee). Don’t bother with this bank...it is not worth it.

Clunky
The app is painfully slow and clunky. The dashboard never loads right for me until I select another screen and then go back to it. I was lured in by the high interest yield savings at 5.0% so I moved just a little money over to see how fast the process would go I’m on business day 5 with my “total” balance showing the correct transferred amount but my “available” balance for purchase and transfers is still zero. The transfer activity is complete and of the 5 days, 2 of those days have shown my total balance but still $0 for available balance. This seems a little absurd and may not be worth the extra interest I would earn. Jury is still out and I will probably transfer money back to my current savings and close this account. It shouldn’t take this long to make funds available.

Incredible Customer Service
My funds were taking long than I expected to deposit. Not only did they provide an incredible amount of information about the reason for the delay, they also conducted the response in a non-patronizing way. Usually that is a very difficult task when a customer asks an “obvious” question. The ui for the app is a little janky.

Not very useful
This app/bank is supposed to offer mobile check deposit, but it has an image size limit of 2mb so I can’t upload my check images. That makes it the same as if it didn’t have mobile check deposit. The app also doesn’t show my APR/interest rate. It takes several days for electronic transfers to show up in my account even though my other bank shows that the money got withdrawn.

Expect longer deposit times.
According to website it can take up to 5 days to deposit money into UFB account. Well not exactly the case. It can take up to 6-7 business days. Deposit money on Aug 24 and here I am… Sept 1 and still not deposited. Warning to all new customers. Choose ur next bank wisely.

Glitches
Already encountered several glitches, including that you cannot edit a future transfer otherwise it will fail on your scheduled date. You have to cancel and re-input your transfer in order for it to go through. Customer service with regard to the app was wildly unhelpful, and I had to go through three representatives until I found one that could explain what was happening. Love the products, but the app and customer service are challenging.

Amazing app!
It took me a little bit to get used to it but it seems to get better each time I go into it. Just found the spending tracker in account insights. The app will track your spending with all your account that are synced. This will help me have one stop for all my monthly spending.

Slow to load
Overall UX and design looks and feels dated. Whenever I login it takes 20+ seconds for the Home page to load. I see the “loading” animation and eventually have to click away, then return to get that page to load. Why is there so much space between the tab headers on “Accounts” page? “Insights” is barely visible on my iPhone. Should be less space, like the “Move” tabs.

Fraud bank. Poor Customer Support.
Please don’t fall in fake reviews. I opened a savings account online and transferred funds to this account which was deposited. It didn’t let me transfer these funds to my external bank account and I was never told the reason until I reach out. However, customer care have no idea what’s going as their customer care is outsourced somewhere in Asia and literally, they have no idea what they are upto. It’s been 20days since I’m trying to get my funds but this morning I got to know my account is restricted and advised to close the account.l as they were not able to get all the documents in first place. UFB opened my account and deposited my transfer and I have provided all the documents that they need but never mentioned about this until I tried to do external transfer. PLEASE STAY AWAY! DON’T FALL FOR THAT EXTRA 0.25% APY

Very convenient and easy to use, but when I try to login through my laptop the site is an absolute nuisance. It keeps telling me they can’t find my account even though I have full access through the app.

Would recommend
I really enjoy this platform. My money is secure and the growth is easy to look at. The platform is also simple and great interest rate. I would and have recommend this savings account to friends and family. Sometimes it has some delays with connecting to my bank but this occurs here and there.

Back navigation does not work
When you drill down to a screen or open say add tiles… you cannot navigate back and the screen freezes in that navigated page(with no way but to kill the app and start all over). Please fix navigation bugs asap.. there are competing banks otherwise … (Took 2 stars out; if this is fixed then the function of the app itself is 5stars)

Easy to Use
This was the first HYSA I Opened. As someone who is young and recently started their financial journey UFB direct was an incredibly easy App to use. Customer service was kind and there was easy access over the phone. All my questions were answered.

Unreliable and horrible experience when it works
This app (and website) have serious UX and service problems. The app kept telling me my login was incorrect even though it wasn’t. And once I finally got in, I was in an endless loop of successfully connecting my bank account but still couldn’t add funds to this savings account. Also when I tried to close my account, their system conveniently kept “erroring” and wouldn’t let me close - sketchy to say the least.

Couldn’t fund account after multiple try’s
I have tried and tried to find the high yield savings account. First I tried my regular bank and checking account but it said it didn’t work with my bank, ok fine. Then I tried with my chase credit card account and still nothing. I really wanted this to work because I like the percentage on the hysa but I can’t even fund the account

extremely buggy app
i opened an account with this bank due to the high interest rates and the fact that the app was highly rated. unfortunately, the app is possibly the worst i’ve used from a financial institution. transactions remain pending for days at a time (beyond normal processing times) leading to inaccurate displays of current account balances and overall net worth. the app has asked me to validate my huntington accounts every single time i’ve logged in, and the loading time is extremely slow. the app’s inability to accurately display balances led to me accidentally overdrawing my huntington account because the ufb app didn’t indicate that my previous attempts to fund the account had gone through. no banking app should be this buggy.

I have multiple accounts and this has been absolutely the very worst. Most complicated app I have ever used. I deposited money from my bank and savings shows zero, but some axom account that I did not create shows my deposit. There is literally no way for you to get your money out except through a lawsuit. I don’t care about their rates, when your app is absolute trash and doesn’t give me a sense of security or simplicity. Goodbye!!

Confusion at the bank
Spoke twice to people at the bank as had deposit rejected after depositing using the app. First indicates needs to be “For Axos Bank mobile deposit only” and the second insists it should be “For UFB mobile deposit only”, meanwhile the app and the email states “For Axos mobile deposit only” which is what was written on the back. Both also suggested to go back to the original check writer to get a new check.

Great interest rates, antiquated application
You can tell that this has never even been updated for a device taller than like an iPhone 4 and the orientation on an iPad doesn’t match the way you have your screen rotated. This is pretty beginner level stuff as far as development goes but as long as their rate keeps staying better than others I will keep using the service, but this could really use some work.

Opened an account on 3/4/24
Was offered 5.25% interest but saw no interest in my deposits. Called on 4/30 and told interest would be credited 4/30. Called today and was told my was deposited in a “Freedom Checking Account” which pays no interest! The rep transferred my account to. “Money Market Account” with exact same numbers, debit card, details etc. Lost 70 days of interest. Not sure this institution is at all reputable and I would not trust it. Larry Doyle

Good account, but…
UFB Direct has been great! I love the HY aspect of it. However, the app itself could be better. It can be difficult to navigate, and the layout feels a little outdated. Otherwise, not too inconvenient to manage assets!

It’s not fancy but it gets the job done
The UFB Direct app is pretty basic, but it does let me check my balance and move money to and from my account, and for a banking app, that is really all I need.

Many Red Flags
Perhaps I was just unlucky. I feel it should not take more than 2 interactions to open a high yield savings account with well over a 720 credit score. I have tried many DMs, emails, and phone calls over a four week period… all over promising to open the account, but it never happened. How would a client be treated when trying to pull out or even close their account?
