Couldn't Be Better, 100%

I used a SONY ICDUX523 digital Micro Recorder, bought in 2013, to make a 43 second recording that was 62 words long, to test the Whisper App (the Medium Quality, English only version, which is free on the App Store). It was tested on a Mac Studio M1 Max. The recording was transferred to the Mac using the recorder’s built-in USB-A output (connected to the Mac with a USB-A to USB-C cable). After transferring the audio file to the Mac, the file was dropped onto the Whisper App window. Whisper perfectly transcribed 100% of the words (but did skip several occurrences of “uh”, which is a bad habit I have). The words ranged in size from 1-13 characters each, & included 4 contractions & one letter-number combination & one ordinal number. Whisper couldn’t have done any better, & there was no need to send the audio file to Apple for the transcription, as required by other Apps. 5*.

The Best

I needed an app that was using the new AI language models to provide actually good Russian Transcriptions. This app allows you to download different size language models depending on what you need. Instead of good i got GREAT transcriptions immediately available in subtitle (SRT or VTT) format. I have been using this app for 5 months now and after 2 months i did the premium one time payment which was totally inexpensive and totally worth it for me. You guys did great with this app. Easy to use, fast, easy to understand and most importantly, accurate transcriptions. Also, i checked their website and they seem to be working on new apps that offer real time speech to text or live captions for streaming video. That would be cool. Highly recommended app and there isn't any better in the app store at the moment.

Fantastic tool I use daily

This has become an invaluable tool for me. I use it for transcribing single person voice memos mainly but I've used it to transcribe 3 hour long conversations using the "Transcribe Podcast" feature and it worked perfectly. Whisper Transcribe has best I've found for something like that by far. I've seen a couple reviews that complain about this not working how they want but I wanted to add some positive commentary because the developer is very transparent about what this app can do right now and where it is headed. There is even a roadmap with what they are working on and what is coming up next. Big fixes, optimizations and new features show up all the time, I think it's amazing. Keep up the great work!

Great App & Dev

The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is to indicate it's not a fake review. As many or all of the 5 star reviews may be real, it's hard to tell these days. All 5 star reviews is sketchy. The app works great, even allowing .caf files (iMessages voice messages), unlike some other clones of this app. The only confusing thing about the app is the pricing. There is a subscription and one time purchase. But the subscription is only available in the Mac App Store version. You can get it from the dev's website as well (do that). It's not clear how the app pays for API calls to Whisper, and will be able to stay afloat into the future. Dev, please show these terms somewhere. And one odd omission is the option to show "sentences" in the top button bar... you have to go into Settings to enable sentences.

Above expectations

When I had the idea to transcribe my memos from Apple's Voice Memos app I got frustrated searching for options. When I found Whisper it felt like the simple solution I had in my mind was materialized. Decided to upgrade to Pro today, but may not have needed to, the free version was more than efficiant. It's a clean interface, quick, and pretty darn accurate. When it gets something wrong, I am mumbling, and it does pretty good guessing what I said (and that's from the free version).

Excellent Support and Roadmap

In addition to the superlatives mentioned in other reviews regarding the app's functionality, I had occastion to contact the developer regarding a glitch in the batch function of the PRO version. He responded very quickly and fixed the issue immediately so it would be in the next release. If only other developers could be so responsive. This app as well as the underlying transcription engine are in active development with a roadmap of future developments. Excellent app!

This app has given me my weekends back...

I am a pulp fiction author that strives to plot, write, edit, and publish a full length novel every week. When I was typing, I spent ten hours per day, seven days per week, at this job. Most of that was in dictating the draft - 40 hours. That is 2,000 words per hour, assuming I take a ten minute break each hour. I know use Voice Memos to dictate the draft and then have Whisper, using the Small (English) model, transcribe it. I dictate at 100 words per minute, or roughly 5,000 words per hour assuming I take a ten minute break each hour. That means each draft goes from taking 70 hours to complete to just 56 hours. That is before the lessened risk of typos is taken into consideration. That knocks it down to roughly 50 hours per week. In other words, I no longer have to work on the weekends!

a game changer for Mac users

This is the best app I've used in years. The dev is super. You can finally transcribe super easily by just talking to your computer and everythinw works so well. I am a former user of another common platform that involves dragons, and this app is so much better. I'm thrilled to bits and recommending it to my colleagues who are also using it. Spot on, this is 100% necessary for anyone doing any sort of writing who uses a Mac.

Great app!

If you're looking for a transcription app for your Mac, stop looking and just get this one. You'll see immediately why it's so good. The only thing that drives me crazy is how the transcribed text puts EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE into a SEPARATE PARAGRAPH. (There's an option to put the transcript into ONE GIANT PARAGRAPH, but that's equally useless.) For a 30-40 speech, this is absolutely agonizing and tedious to fix, and something that AI should be able to do much better with by now. Seems like the AI could reasonably decipher where the natural breaks are in a speech, based not only on the audible pauses, but more importantly, by determining where the logical breaks are. I mean, when I listen to someone speaking, it's pretty obvious to me where the natural "paragraph breaks" occur in the speech... so AI should definitely be at least as smart as me. :) If the developers can fix this, they'll have no competition in the transcription space!

Transcriptions getting worse with each "update"

As a newspaper editor, I've been using this program exclusively for events I covered as well as the ones covered by my reporters. At first it was great — truly remarkable in its accuracy, but in recent months, the updates have brought horrible inaccuracies and a whole lot of repetitive nonsense that makes the who app unusable about 60-80% of the time. Even the update that was supposed to take care of the repetitions didn't do its job. I'm using this app on M2 MacBook Pros, so it isn't the computers that are causing the problem. I'm greatly disappointed and am now looking for another app to use.

SCAM ALERT

DO NOT buy this app. I needed a transcription for a final project and even with the most expensive paid level, this buggy software only transcribed three minutes out of a 50 minute audio file. Not only that, but it was so difficult to cancel this useless subscription that it became clear to me they make it that difficult to con users into accidentally not cancelling and paying for more. I would've been totally willing to pay past the free trial period if the software had worked at all, but it didn't, so I tried to cancel early and was completely unable to. Eventually I cancelled after going through like a 30 step process. DO NOT GET THIS

Great App! Paragraph detection?

This a fantastic app that truly changes transcription and dictation. I have never seen any transcription/voice-to-text app achieve what this app has done. I can't speak for the iPhone version but the Mac App version is outstanding. However, is there a way to either have the AI detect paragraphs or to issue voice commands to create a new paragraph? The transcripts appear as one large block of text. Thanks!

No clue why people say this crashes

I'm running Ventura 13.4 on an M1 Air and it runs like a dream. I've had no crashes, as the other reviews seem to mention. Startup was smooth, and again there were no issues. It transcribes surprisingly fast, and even on the free plan models it's very accurate. He's even added support for speakers, so you can tag each segment once and it exports with the names included. Only issue I've ran into is when loading a .whisper file, the link to the original media seems to be broken; the play buttons no longer work. Highly recommended, just make sure you download the most recent version straight from the app store and not some other source on the web.

Has to be 5 stars

I can't believe anybody's giving Lesson five stars for this. Even if it's not perfect the developer is very responsive continually updates and it's just an amazing app. For people who need it, there was nothing like this before. Nothings perfect in the beginning, but this is as close as you can get… And it keeps getting better. Batch transcription is a wonderful improvement.

Not accurate for the price

I transcribe audio recordings of interviews that are roughly 30 minutes. Again and again I get "hallucinations" and reptitions in the transcripts... I've since discovered that this problem is "solvable" when using original whisper when you specify, for example, some parameters in command-line interface but the frontend of this application does not expose those parameters, thus I will always have problems. It's also unfortunate that the author doesn't expose newer models (v3 at the time of writing this review). Actually not even v2 is made available...

Great App - Really Works

I am so grateful for this app! It has great transcription abilities. It's simple and accurate. After trying a dozen transcription sites, I finally found the perfect app in Whisper Transcription. And I no longer have to think about how many minutes I'm using and getting charged for, just paid the nominal fee for the Pro versoin. I can't wait for the iOs version!

Very Helpful!

I just wanted to say I really appreciate the developer's work on this app. It has come a long way since I first installed it more than a month ago. Excellent work. It can still be improved a little, of course, but it is a huge help for me personally as someone who hates typing and can't see too well. Thank you. Thank you.

Great tool

I do voiceover work, podcasts, and review audio for other projects. The ability to generate an incredibly accurate transcript, with no need to listen and type, is a game-changer. Workflow is streamlined, time spent is a fraction of what it was. All at a reasonable price with great features, and more are added all the time. Exceptional work! Thank you.

Pretty great

Nice implementation. Very much considering going pro. Only quirk so far is that 'auto detect' language seems to come up with wildest ideas about what language a normal English audio file is, even when using the small-English-only model. Doesn't seem to affect the transcription but is a bit distracting.

accurate but adding speakers is painful

I wanted to use this app since I have a lot of action items from meetings. The transcription appears accurate and it omits the um's and uh's which is great, but adding speakers is too difficult. You have to go to segements, go to the very right of each sentence and right click and add the user. If it's just my own voice memo I think it's would be fine, but as is, it's not quite useable for me.

Fantastic In Every Way!!!

I'm changing my 4 Stars to 5 Stars because the developer listens to his customers and iplements features very, very quickly. The minor items that led me to give 4 instead of 5 Stars were quickly implemented. This is the best app out there for transcription!!!! I couldn’t be happier!

Good for clean transcription, not so great for language research

I need an app for language research - this one cleans the language up too much (eliminates sound particles, startovers, etc.) so if you want to do conversation analysis you still have to go through and uncorrect the corrections. Still, it's better than transcribing from scratch. It also fails to distinguish between speakers. It would be great to have a setting for exact transcription.

amazing for researchers

This is excellent. I love how accurate it is and that you can assign names with relative ease. for academic researchers, it is well worth purchasing. Yes, you have to assign the names to each section, but it is easy to do. Why pay for Rev or another service when you can use this?

Great Accuracy

Thank you for the wonderful app, also nor incorporating the newer large V3 model. The transciption accuracy is great. If I may suggest an enhancement: it would be very useful and improve the user experience if the transciption recordings (accessed via New Recording) could be paused and resumed.

Great App & Support

This is easily a five star app and developer. Jordi's communication is prompt and very helpful. As far as the app is concerned, it's absolutely fantastic and the key to many of my systems. It's a breeze to transcript any audio file and output in a variety of formats. It makes meeting notes/etc a piece of cake.

Best App Purchase Ever

I've tried using online services to transcribe videos but the accuracy was horrendous and they wanted steep monthly subscription prices. Whisper Transcription Pro was fast and amazingly accurate, even with unusual jargon I never expected it to catch. This is a lifesaver.

Using the large model

The large model provides accurate and useful transcripts from a small digital recorder. I have transcribed recordings taken in a variaty of situations with small and larger groups.

Did not work at all for me

I installed from the App Store and it installed and started easily. I downloaded the 'small' model to test. I then dropped in an m4a audio file, it said that it was starting transcription. I waited 30 minutes. It never moved off of 0%. I have a relatively new Mac with 32 GB of memory and 8 CPUs. Next I dropped in an mp4 file, same results. Finally, I played the entire mp4 from the bottom of the window. It never transcribed a single word of audio.

Support the distinction between Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

I hope the app can provide the option to convert voice to Simplified Chinese instead of the default Traditional Chinese, which is technically very simple, just call Apple's interface, but it's a great enhancement to the experience of Chinese users.

impressive but UI not quite there for transcription app

Whisper is impressively quick and accurate on my MBA but MacWhisper UI doesn't serve well yet as Dragon NS replacement. That's a bit unfair given the price differential and MacOS dictation isn't very useful yet either. Support was good with my beginner question. Hopefully, will continue to improve UI. Will keep trying newer versions.

Works great

I only tested this on an mp4 video file, but it worked great on my Intel iMac running Monterey. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this app available on the App Store!

very inconsistant results

I feel I've wasted my money, my time, and my hopes and dreams with this. Seemed to work with around 90% accuracy with some recordings, transcribed others in blocks of unpunctuated words with random capitalization, and seemed to automatically make an effort to translate my English speakers from Tartar and other languages. I spent more time correcting transcriptions or fiddling with the app than if I'd typed it all out myself.

Something is definitely wrong with the latest releases of this software. The accuaracy has gone down, and the program will hang up and repeat a phrase over and over and over and... I'm running it on an iMac Pro with 10 cores. The physical cores are saturated and the processor is running hot. Please fix this. Whisper Transcription was great. Now it's not.

A few bugs but a promising start

When trying this with a few recordings it seems to only be attempting to transcribe one audio channel, which can create issues on files that have different speakers in different channels.

INSANELY BUGGY

I paid for the lifetime subscription but regret not using another service like Otter. The transcription is pretty bad and has a lot of artifacts like repeated text. Simple things are impossible: - You cannot re-run a transcription - When you have a seperate input and output audio for a video call, you cant keep those seperate, so you lose the information of who is speaking - All the file management, everything is completely broken Even the most requested features still haven't been added, I would say the updates have made everything less stable without improving the experience. STAY AWAY.

Perfect for interview!

i used the small model for the vioce memos' transcription and it's good enough to make a outline of the interview. i believe the pro version and large model will get a remarkable improvement

Fantastic App!

Frequent updates get annoying

Great app overall and works fairly well. But this app has a new update everytime I open the App Store. Gets kind of annoying. Why do we need an update every other day?

Constantly have to restore purchases

For the most part its a good app, that is, when it's not asking me to pay for the upgrade, which I did. Constantly having to restore my purchase is annoying enough that I'm on the market for an alternative.

Even smallo works well

Will upgrade. Only quibble is occasional minor off timing of suibtitles but not a major game breaker. Would estimate 90 % accuracy.

Great when it works

I do a lot of transcription in my research and writing. This is a great product, better than any I've used, WHEN it works. I've had it lose the recording twice to where it can't transcribe. That is pretty bad when it is a live talk etc.

Crashes during Mic Record

On Monterey, continuously crashing after hitting STOP when recoring voice. Worked well with an mp4 though.

Fine when it works but fails to record

The app said recording for an entire hour but the resulting file was not even three seconds. So no audio or transcript and an entire hour wasted.

Crashes, Bugs, No Support

I had high hopes for this technology. After I tried it a few times, it was promising, but there too mnay glitches and it no longer works. I received zero reposnse for suport. I've removed it from my machine.
