This is an enjoyable app, one that makes me feel as if I am actually expanding my brain, rather than shrinking it! LoL Something that would make it better would be, when we pick the incorrect word, if they would include the definition of the correct word. For example, I had a word that the clue was something about “that which is bright or glowing” (I am paraphrasing). My choice was “luminous” or “Illuminated” I choose incorrectly, but I wasn’t sure why. Educate me! :-) Thanks for a fun app!
Really good game and very addictive, but in a good way because you're learning. I just started playing so idk if this is really what it's doing, but I might have noticed that it repeats the words I got wrong more often than the others I got right. I only wish it kept a list of the ones I got wrong, make it into flash cards that way I can look over them to study. If you work for this app and you're reading this, please consider! It's the reason I gave you 4 instead of 5 stars and it seems like something that can be easily fixed :) Other than that. Great app, exactly what I was looking for, just gotta find a way to make it better for me to study the words I got wrong.
I've only plying for a couple of days and I like this game. My only complaint is that the definitions of some words are not accurate. I have cross-checked a couple of words I thought I had answered correctly but that the app sad it was the incorrect answer, and the definition I found in the Oxford Dictionary was the same I had selected. Maybe it needs an update. Other than this is a lot of fun. I don't see why other reviews mention you have to keep paying, so far I have not spent a dime and I'm at level 29. I keep replying the same level and there are so many new words I don't feel the need to skip ahead.
Brilliant gameplay design. From the definitions and word choices thoughtfully created, slow increase in difficulty and design choices this simple but effective game will have you glued to it trying to beat your past self (or family members) high score. You can’t even tell that it’s teaching you new definitions. Highly recommend.
Free and you learn new words what's not to like? So far I've been playing and it's been good but addictive! A little problem with my device freezing for a moment while I was registering. So I shut down other apps, then shut down the game itself and then tapped the game icon again and it worked. I have an IPhone 6. I recommend this game and only give it four stars just because of the momentary freeze, which was really nothing . Otherwise I would have given it a five star.
I enjoy practically any game that challenges my mind, especially those that also build my vocabulary. This game does both. I won’t bore you with a recap of how the game works since you can see that in the preview. However, I will say that this app would be phenomenal if it included a subsection that has each word used linked to a dictionary. I have an awesome dictionary called The Free Dictionary by Farlex. I suggest a collaboration with this App and Farlex’s The Free Dictionary App. I believe both developers would benefit.
I downloaded this app for my son to learn more words. He likes playing but cannot get far because of the timer. Suggestions: - Add profiles so multiple users can play on one device - Using the profile age / grade level, adjust the word bank to be appropriate for each user. - Allow for more time for younger players so this can be a useful educational took instead of “just a game.” - $.99 to continue a game seems like a pretty dumb feature. I understand you want to make money but, I would never pay to allow my son to continue if he hasn't mastered the words he should. - If someone misses a word that was previously answered correctly, it should be un-starred. - Stats should be meaningful from an educational level. It shouldn't be that difficult to build in ranks that represent a 1st grader thru college reading level.
Ah, hubris. I thought I was pretty smart until I tried to beat this game. And tried. And tried. It starts easy and gets more challenging. I am obsessed with word games, and this is my current favorite. I agree with others that I’d like to be able see the definition of wrong answers. Sometimes the game seems to be drawing a pretty fine line between words that have multiple, similar meanings, depending on the context.
I have had this app for years. It really does help with one’s vocabulary but sometimes the clues are too verbose. It is almost like the writers are using an archaic dictionary because some of the phrases don’t sound like proper English. Over all I still give it a five star rating! Try it! Test your vocabulary. I bet you learn a bunch of new words!
If you enjoy words and their definitions, and you enjoy competing or pushing yourself past your limits you’ll like this. It reminds me of a game called Perfection in which you have to place all the shapes before the clock runs out and pieces fly everywhere, except instead of shapes your placing definitions with words. Sort of anyway. There’s the same sense of panic involved.
It’s free and easy to use. That’s a welcome start. The starter words are a bit of a bore... but that’s where they look to make a buck. I haven’t folded yet. Some of the 4stars are a bit “word of the day” or 99 cent picks that if you try to use in every day communication will net you a well deserved eye roll... but fun nonetheless for your own improvements and writing options.
Hello, are you going to play this for fun or to be informed? Well, you could possibly learn and accumulate your knowledge with terse, often not descriptive enough words. Or maybe you’re gaming. Well, I’ve spent days learning their odd definitions to surpass my peers. Finally, I was many hours in and only a few points to reach this accolade, and then the app crashed. Had time simply elapsed or did I become erudite from learning from the app? Neither. I appreciate their care for words, but time, a glass of wine and a dictonary are better for a learner than an ineffective app.
Cannot go beyond 3300 because the game will freeze
The game is quite good for a non native. But once you get to 100 points, the challenge is lessened. From then on, it’s quite easy to master. The thing is, you will never get to reach 5000 point straight because the game will freeze at 3000+, depending on your gadget memory. A few weeks in and it gets very boring, the vocabulary bank is too limited.
Great game. It would be awesome if there was a second place you could play to practice the words you failed on. Maybe use the same play concept but only use the failed words somewhere in each question. That would really reinforce the learning.
I love playing this when I need to relax for a few but there’s one thing I would love to be available in this App. I’d love it if there was a list of the words you got wrong and their definitions or even just a quick list of all the words presented before you got one wrong. That would make this my favorite go-to game for sure!
S sword game lover with what. Thought is a song vocabulary this game is really cool and addictive. My main complaint is that too often there are two word that could potentially fit the definition I it's frustrating to get those wrong I wish there was a pause button that didn't cost coins, not to cheat, but just to be able to take a break.
Best game I’ve ever played. I wish they would provide this to the schools! I can’t stop playing. I even had all my friends and family download it! Now they are all trying to outsmart me!! Haha fabulous game . I highly recommend it. Now all my hood homies are throwing around new words haha dope❤️
It drives me crazy when I do miss a word that I need to pay .99 to continue every time. I can’t do that. Not because I’m uneducated by any means. Plus, I’ve played word games since I was a child, but it aggravates me to be on a roll when I miss a word. Then you add in payment to continue is like throwing salt on the wound! But, beyond my criticism, I do enjoy playing the game immensely. Blessings to all! Crossstitchkitty
Great way to help time go by. After you play it for a while it becomes addicting and before you know it you've been on for a long time. The only thing I would change is putting the definition back up when the wrong answer is selected. That way on e can review the wrong answer.
This game is fun in that it actually challenges you to think on your feet! You gotta be quick and alert! By far the most addictive vocabulary game I have encountered in a long time! I recommend it for anyone who has a love affair with Words!!
The game doesn’t let you just buy the game. They try to charge more for every turn. I don’t really know why but I’m not going to pay to play more than one turn if they don’t just let us buy the full version. $45??? Greedy. But the game is fun and good for learning.
I'm editing my review - had thought that I had to pay 99c everytime just to continue (which is true) but you can also level up by besting your previous scores? Maybe they need a quickie screen to explain how the points thingy works so fools like me will know what's going on.
Not a pro gamer but like to play a bit. I like this game except I don’t understand the purchasing information - seems there is no way to buy outright but only in a limited way.
After I finished the first level, which contained a fairly small amount of words, I paid $.99 to continue. A small set of words later and I was asked to pay another $.99. The full version is rather expensive. So, you may want to think before you even spend the initial $.99.
Through this app, I’ve expanded my vocabulary quite a bit. It’s a fun pastime that, unlike most other games, has educational value. I definitely recommend it and will continue to play :)
When you consistently score at least 25 it gets a little boring when you constantly have to begin again starting with the easy words. Would be nice if you're restarted closer (eg within ten) to where you failed.
I’ve found that I’m not usually able to remember the new words, but for words I’ve already heard, but don’t know what they mean, it’s very helpful. I’d love to see a list of missed words.
Just started playing I hope they update with more features like a word bank of missed words. And other options to just play 2star etc. But overall fun and a great learning tool.
The four star words are mostly unknown to me so I enjoy expanding my vocabulary. I like comparing how I do in the daily and weekly world leaderboard. We need more players!
Great game. Says I need to earn 40points to get to next level. I’m motivated to get there but don’t know what you mean by points. Is it the same as credits? How are they earned? Great word learning. Thank you.
After failing there should be a link to a learning section such as sample sentence for a given word. This would make it a bit more pedagogical. Other than that, $99c to continue in any given game is a bit steep.
I enjoy this very much. Sometimes I wish the time was adjustable on the timed tests. Also I don’t think it keeps record of my scores. Tried to connect with Facebook but it gave me a message it was unavailable. Love the colors, the pleasant sound, the rhythm.
This is a highly enjoyable way to brush up on one’s vocabulary, but I would like if there was some way to view missed words to make a sort of study list. That’s the only improvement I’d like to see!
Gotta think fast sometimes cause by time you read the description your time up for the answer may b over. Keeps u on your toes. At the same time you are learning
My husband and I enjoy playing this game & compete with each other. I don’t feel guilty playing this as I occasionally learn new words. I would recommend .
When you lose it doesn’t let you see the definition for the word you got wrong! Also it would be nice to see a list of all the words you got wrong. Thanks for the app!
It’s fun, and challenging, but I’d prefer not to be timed, as I’m a slow reader, with a poor attention span. A pause button would also be nice, because I like to play in between doing other things.
This is an awesome app for learning new words! Vocabulary improves very well while using this app! Thank you for making such a wonderful app for learning new vocabulary.
One of the best SAT vocal games I've played but charging per continuance after a loss is a bit much - especially if there's a pro and free version. There should be more perks other than just getting rid of ads.
Awesome! I like the repetition and short goals that keep you hooked! Be careful, it is very ADDICTIVE! After 5 hours my wife wanted me to get rid of it because I couldn't put it down.
Addicting and entertaining word app. My only gripes are that I like to be able to hear the pronunciation of the words and sometimes I like to take more time to review.. but that’s just personal preference.. overall great app
It deserves a 5 star but unfortunately it hasn’t been redesigned to support larger and newer devices. It’s quite a simple job actually and will only take a day of Xcode work.
Test your verbal prowess in this fun and challenging game that requires intense concentration and a mastery of words. Words Inc is also a great way to improve your vocabulary! The rules are simple - tap the word that correctly matches the definition shown on the screen before time runs out, or swipe away incorrect words to get more time. The game is (virtually) endless - see how many vocabulary words you can correctly answer in a row. The catch? The difficulty of the words keep scaling higher and higher until it requires every ounce of concentration to get the next word correct! Connect to Facebook to see how your score ranks among your friends. Connect via Game Center and compare your score with the rest of the world. Get higher scores by using one of three power-ups - pass! to skip a word, freeze! to stop the timer, and remove! to eliminate one incorrect choice. Power-ups reactivate every 4 words of the same type you get right. Purchase power-ups with credits earned by answering correctly or swiping away incorrect words. Advance through the 14 different grades of vocabulary mastery by accomplishing different challenges such as scoring a certain amount of points or mastering a number of words. How many words do you think you know? How good do you think you vocabulary really is? There's only one way to find out!
