New update works and shows the data I was looking for in the app. Showed a good percent of chance last night and sure enough we had a great show! Thanks for the update. We have missed plenty of showings using this app. The app has never been over 0 chance since using it for several years yet you go outside and the sky is filled with the Northern lights. Only thing good about the app is an easy way to see some atmospheric metrics and such. Don’t count on it for predictions!
I have been using this app for years In hopes of seeing the Northern Light. And it paid off last night, May 10, 2024. The app is a work of art. Beautifully designed, and loaded with information. Nevertheless it is accessible to all irrespective the one’s science background. If nothing else it will at least let you know when to look.
good idea, not very accurate, in my experience, others we have better luck
I live in Minnesota and roughly the middle of the state. We see the lights from time to time during strong, solar events. They can push down to the midpoint of Minnesota. I have seen them three times since getting this app, but not because the app helped. when I seen the lights, I’ve opened the app and it says my chances of seeing the lights or 0%, this app is last updated four years ago, maybe a new update and tweaking are in order? Good idea, poor function.
I wish you could set up notifications for other areas other than your current location and also the ability to get notifications based on the forecast. i.e get notified when the space weather will be dramatic at my cabin this weekend.
It took a lot of effort to find out what “Bt” was, by searching websites. Still not sure about it as an alert value because what I found was: it’s the B-angle and that’s optimum in March and September. That can’t be it! We don’t need an alert that it’s March or September!!! Please advise. Thanks.
Maybe I need to get used to it…I really liked having HP quickly available. Update - to refresh I have to swipe away the program and then relaunch it. The HP used to be in bigger text (Hemispheric Power in gigawatts)
This app performs well, and gives me the information I need to be on the alert for the possibly seeing an aurora in my area. I would recommend this app to a friend.
I’ve been missing the Northern Lights lately, so I installed the app to get notifications. Checked the app last night- probability- 0, no notification. Looked outside and the lights were spectacular! So glad I didn’t rely on this app
This is a great app, it does a the job of simply telling when you're going to be able to see the aurora. The data is arranged clearly and the graphic showing visibility on the earth is interesting.
Aurora Now provides real-time predictions regarding the chances for auroral activity at your specific location right now as well as a forecast for the coming 30 minutes. One of the most popular services we provide is the local aurora alert service. You can get instantly notified when there is a high chance for auroral activity at your location without having to check the app all the time. You can also get alert services for the solar wind data, Kp index, and hemispheric power. These extra services can be purchased within the app. The app also provides predicted and observed Kp index, solar wind data directly from DSCOVR, such as solar wind speed and magnetic field (Bz and Bt), and graphs with recent data to help you predict auroral activity as well as the hemispheric power for the last 6 hours. The app focuses much on the activity right now, but we also added a 3 day Kp forecast which can give you a hint which days you could expect higher activity. Enjoy!
