I needed an app to make handwritten flash cards digitally. Like other users have mentioned, there is NO other app on the market. Quizlet is the best for simple term and definition, but when needed to write out formulas for math that look intuitive and don’t take an absurd amount of time - either to type out or take a picture of a paper version (assuming you have the paid version of quizlet) are not even options, thus there wasn’t another substitute for paper index cards except this app. Where else are you able to write terms and draw something like a comic to remember it on the back? I wouldn’t have a clue, and it’s bizarre that it doesn’t exist anywhere else.
Only feature is writing on flash cards. Not helpful to actually study.
This app does not have any competition and it shows. Yes, this is the only app where you can hand write your flash cards. That feature is great but that is about it. The app icons/buttons within the app are not responsive like other apps and this app somehow has worse hand recognition when writing than any other app. You can’t change color or size of the pencil or eraser and there is no auto-shape feature for drawing things like circles and squares. This app is also very annoying because when you open the flash card it is on the lined side for details, but I like to write my topics/subject on the flash card first. There is no feature to customize this. Additionally, there is no feature to actually go through the flash cards. There is no “study” mode or learning games in the app that you can use with your cards. To study you have to click on each flash card you made individually and flip it over when you want to see the other side. I would rather handwrite in another app and import the photos to an app like Quizlet. TLDR: Overall, very disappointing app. The novel feature of this app is being able to hand write the flash cards and that is it. It is lacking excellent features of other apps like ways to learn your flash cards and customizable writing tools. Again, it is obvious that this app is not pushed to be “better” because it has no competition in the App Store.
Finally - a functional Index Card app that looks like real Index Cards
Finally, a decent Index Card app. Simple, intuitive, and easy to use. It has it’s quirks like any app, but they have done their best- and done it well. I’ve tried others (including Flash Card apps), but this simple app outshines them all. I’ve used ‘real’ index cards for years, for many uses. I received my RN degree with the help of the cards, inventoried my home, my LP collection, and many others I’m now writing a narrative of my life, and the app lets me use what works for me. It’s not perfect, it has its quirks, but the learning curve is simple. I gave this a 4 because no one, and no app is perfect. And the hefty price tag may be difficult for some, but the free version works well. Perhaps a student discount might be offered…. If you want a simple and functional Index Card app try this one.
I needed something for mind-mapping and this app fit the bill! I used to use index cards for plotting out screenplays, but haven’t used those in a long time. Plus, who wants to have a bunch of cards rubber banded together? This app allows me to do the same thing and save space. I use it on my iPad and can record my ideas quickly. It seems to help with my creative flow. I began using Scrivener’s Scrapple on my MacBook and they didn’t have a version for the iPad. This is very close to that type of concept and I love it.
Most of the keyboard shortcuts don’t work. When the user guide clearly states that they work. AND when you hold down the Command key it does not display the keyboard shortcuts, when the user guide clearly states that it’s supposed to do this. But what is the MOST egregious is that their website offers a “Feedback” page, but when you fill out the form it does says it cannot send the feedback and advises you to check your email address. I have tried every email address that I have. And I don’t know how else to type them, they are my email addresses. So I can’t even provide feedback or get help. I am just a powerless consumer. We are all powerless with these companies. We just have to sit here and accept this behavior. Someday we will act and show these people that we are not powerless.
This app has the basics that I am looking for. However I wish that I could zoom out to see all my flash cards on my board. However for some reason there is a limit to how wide a view there is. Also I wish there was an attached extension that would allow me to go through the flash cards like quizlet. Lastly I wish you could have certain sections on a flash card board that when you go through them it stays in that section. Instead of just going to the right like you’re reading the flash cards on a page. In the end, I do admit that it is perfect for making flashcards with your stylus. However when it comes to studying the flash cards, there is a lot of work that could be done to the app.
I really like the idea of handwriting Flashcards; however, this program is almost useless due to the lack of useful features and very not intuitive to use. My recommendations for future improvements are below: 1. Don't reinvent the wheel. Go get ideas from other flash card apps and combine useful features and get rid of useless ones. Some useful features are: - easy to use menu (use common sense and use beta testers for feedback) - handwriting feature with different pen styles and colors - accessibilities to writing panel and tools (see Notability and similar note taking apps) - quiz mode, flash card mode, matching, fill in the blank (see Quizlet and similar apps) 2. Full version costs too much for such a poor app. Perhaps with serious improvements. Unless you can make it better than all others on the market, or combine key features, it's really not worth downloading. 3. I'm tired writing recommendations. Look around at other similar apps before wasting time making new ones. Good luck and hope to see some future improvements.
This app is the best (and perhaps only) flash card app that lets you write on your cards. However, the re are a few issues I have with it, first, it looks like it hasn’t been updated in six years. Next, having folders to organize card sets would be beneficial for organization. Lastly, maybe have some other colors than black to use? We also have iPads with the ability to detect pressure sensitivity, having a writing layout like notability’s would be really nice altogether. I’d say it’s not a bad app by any means, could just use a visual update and some better writing options.
This app is amazing, finally I have a place to quickly organize and move around notes for all of my creative projects and studying. I’ve been playing with the Cardflow+ demo board and will definitely buy the upgrade once I have the spare money, the only thing I wish it had was to be able to put multiple photos on one card but that could be because it’s just a demo so we will see once I buy the upgrade!!
I figured let me try the free version first to see if it was easy for me to get the results I want. The plan was to upgrade to the Cardflow + after testing out the “free version”. What a joke. There is no free version...only advertisements telling me why plus is better than free. I created a card and wanted to see how it would look printed out. The export option is not there. You can only play around with what’s on the page and that’s it. (Unless you want to upgrade from nothing; probably to nothing). Now that I feel there are scammy vibes I want nothing to do with this developer. Why would I trust you or your paid version? Just be honest instead of misleading. Stupid.
I started teaching a class a week ago and had trouble remembering everything. So I switched to note cards which also provided flexibility to jump around in the lesson. But I was quickly burning through paper cards. I thought to myself, I wish there was an app that would allow me to use index cards on my iPad. This app is exactly what I was looking for. I’ll be upgrading to the paid version shortly. Thanks for making this app!
Idk how else I would be dealing with grad school without this app. Other flash card apps only allow typing and I absorb information better when I physically write things down. Buying flash cards costs money and takes up actual space, it’s also not that good for saving trees, you guys rock for making this app. Thank you!
The overall app is really handy for rearranging and color-coding cards easily, and I intend to buy the full version at some point as I use it often for plotting stories. My only issue is when you’re on a board it very frequently “dims” grey and you have to back out to the main list of boards and go back in order to continue working on that board. It’s minor but with how often it happens it becomes frustrating.
I wanted to love this, but when I’m storyboarding I need to be able to see the other cards while I’m working on a new one. As far as I can tell, you can zoom in and write/draw on one card, but can’t add content to a card while looking at the whole board. I also couldn’t ever find the different templates that were supposed to be included. I read the manual, but couldn’t find anything that addressed either of these issues. I’d gladly pay for the upgraded version if it offered this basic functionality.
Pretty easy to use, but it’s incredibly basic. I understand that there’s a “pro” version but I don’t feel that it should be necessary to pay $15 for the ability to highlight and have different colored pens. Overall, I think it’s good, but I wish there was a less expensive way to upgrade, or that there should be more tools to use. I do appreciate how it allows me to hand write my note cards and draw diagrams, though!
Since the Index Card app hasn't seen an update since 2015, I looked for competing apps. This could be *the* one, but the dev has left open too many Qs for me to invest in the paid version. Neither here nor at the website can I locate a list detailing the difference between the freebie and paid version. A few of my (predictable!) Qs: ✧︎︎︎ Is the Pro also an island app, i.e. no syncing? ✧︎︎︎ Standard Share Sheet access in the Pro version? ✧︎︎︎ Standard print capability in the Pro version? Since the dev couldn't be bothered to tell us the differences, I can't be bothered with the app. Freebie deleted. The hunt continues.
I have outlined podcasts, scripts and lesson plans with cardflow. It is simple to use and provides excellent exporting options. Which is vastly underestimated till you want to do do something with your work. They work to keep it updated and respond to questions quickly.
This app has great potential, I really like the layout-it’s logical. That being said, the functionality isn’t as smooth as what I’d expect for an Apple app. My biggest gripe is the way I constantly move cards without intending to because of how the app is setup. Suggestion, in order to move a card, make us long press for almost a full second, or, make it a toggle button to enable moving the cards around. The current implementation is horrible.
Unfortunately, storyboard lacks a very important feature: reorder cards. For now the order of cards is entirely free. If you want reorder them you have to do it manually. If there are lots of cards, that could be a nightmare. the cards in a storyboard are supposed to be in strict order, that is how the story goes. So to be a storyboard app, Cardflow needs add this feature. I tried the link function, I think it is a meaningless feature.
Very useful app! But, it’s missing a basic feature.
It would be great if there were a way to create new cards that retain the template and color settings from the previous one. A default template setting per board would also be appreciated. Aside from that, I think this will be a very useful tool.
This is superior tool for organizing and rearranging ideas concepts and plans. Wonderful for brainstorming. I hope the developers create iPhone and Mac versions. Cross platform synchronization would allow an enhanced ability for collaboration and maintaining continuity.
I haven’t tried many apps for taking notes and organizing ideas but just the basic free version of this app with minimal tools and such works amazing for me. Easy to use UI. And very little restrictions and dead ends. Good job app team.
I only just downloaded this app, but I’m already blown away by how well-thought out and simple to use it is! Highly recommend for the Boards feature alone!
The free version already incorporated a lot of the stuff I need, and no ads, unlike a lot of other annoying apps. I will upgrade to the full version soon when I have a little more money on hands, as the Export to pdf function is very desirable!
This app is great. It does everything I need it to do. It’s extremely user friendly and the work flow is perfect. I would recommend this to anybody in school, doing work presentations, developing a story board, or outlining podcast material like me. I hope this never goes away.
I like the idea that I will soon be completely organized. This is no small statement lol🤐 I recommend this one for us with stacks of papers that have countless ideas everywhere. Google MrBaileyBaby and jam with me a bit while you use this effective app. Thanks to the developers
Too expensive to be having these issues. App crashes on me at least once a day and loses the last few minutes of work. The palm rejection is also finicky; cards flip on me constantly while I'm writing. I'm not sure why my palm is being registered as a two finger tap. I'm aware of the gray slide tool but it's inconvenient at best and with palm rejection functioning properly shouldn't be necessary. IPad pro 11in
Too many apps today try to impress you with a million features I can imagine anyone having the time to learn how to utilize in the first place. When it comes to apps, give me MINIMALISTIC design and function! That’s what you get here!
I really like this app. My only issue is the default is set to draw instead of write. They’re literally index cards with lines for writing. I’m constantly having erase tiny dots every time I want to write something. Please fix. Default to write - Choose to draw. Simple.
If you’re going to use these with a Apple Pencil or to type original ideas onto cards, it’s great. But if you’re writing text in other documents and wanting to import them (say, writing Dialog or Character Descriptions in Word but wanting it on a card) there doesn’t appear any way to do this.
This app has great potential, but it currently has too many shortcomings for me to recommend the standard version, or to purchase the advanced version. Two features (and maybe I’ve just missed them) are required to make this app a must have: 1. Backup and Sync 2. The ability to move cards from one deck to another. (Note: another reviewer has mentioned the value of spaced repetition, but this method, though sub-optimal, would allow that basic functionality. A student simply needs to create a few decks corresponding to their level of retention, and then move cards accordingly.) I’m not sure how hard 1 would be to implement, but it seems that 2 should be rather easy.
Honestly it needs a lot more. My palm shouldn’t be flipping over the card mid sentence while I’m writing w my pencil. Also it should have the option to set a different color as default…it’s good as an electronic index card but so much could improve seriously…without having to buy an advanced version, it’s annoying.
I’m having a problem with this on my iPad Pro. I was able to add one card and write in some information. Then things went kerflooey. It took dozens of tries before I could get a second card to appear. I couldn’t add a third no matter how many times I tried. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. This time I couldn’t add even one card. The program looks great but so far it’s been pretty much useless for me. Can you help, please.
This app is crazy cool, I can take notes, write reminders, write memory scriptures, and even use as flash card for my kids spelling words and math equations....but...why can't they be saved!!!!! Lol. I wish I could save them, supposed the app crashed and everything got deleted?? Great app developers please fix, or did I miss something??
Downloaded it today and used it for the first time , really enjoying it - however, just when I started considering buying the plus version after making dozens of handwritten cards, it crashed ... when I reopened it everything I put in during the last hour was gone So, the decision became easy ... really nice app with great features, but I can’t afford to waste my time with it
I used to be able to write using just my Apple Pencil and the app would only recognize that but now I can’t find the option anymore and now the app will recognize my Apple Pencil AND my hand as it rests on the screen as I write notes. It’s rather counterproductive when working in fast pace situations such as sitting in a college level lecture in organic chemistry, for example.
I like this app, but I cannot prevent the index cards from flipping unintentionally when writing with the Apple Pencil. The pressure of my palm keeps causing the cards to flip. If I wasn’t having this problem, I would continue using the app and would consider upgrading. However, I’m may move on to something different.
I’ve used so many flash card apps but I love how simple this is. Nothing fancy and this is exactly what I need for school studying! It’s really like having a pen and index cards.
I just got the Cardflow free version... and really like it. It’s pretty intuitive and easy to use. It’s not perfect. But really good I really like that you can use an Apple Pencil. It’s just like writing flash cards by hand. GREAT! I wish the pencil point was finer and we could change colors of ink. I wish there was an easier way to review the cards and flip them over other than the small grey button. I wish I could import photos/diagrams. Thanks for making a very good product.
I love the idea of getting to draw molecular structures and writing their names on the back like flashcards. But when I try to draw, the card decides to zoom in and out randomly. After making about 25 flash cards I gave up. I wish this app could be updated or something. If the features worked correctly I would love it.
Kinda aggravated at the moment. This app was great for 2am when I needed to pull up cards for emergency information of my employees. Since the update I cannot get the cards to expand on the board. Like a dummy I don’t have a paper backup so I’m squinting to see the information until a fix and I can import my information back to my Emegency notebook.
Free version is frustrating to work with. paid version looks like it may solve some of the issues I’m having, but I’m not going to pay for a premium version of something I’m not sure will be useful. Wish there was a premium trial period.
I really like this app, but it has terrible palm rejection for Apple Pencil. It flips the cards, draws random lines and dots. The program itself is a great thought mapping experiencing with being able to move cards around. I would enjoy it much more with the extra Apple Pencil sensitivity.
This looks good. This is almost what I need. The one essential feature that I feel is missing is the spaced repetition and scheduling aspect like what anki does. If this feature was implemented than I would definitely buy the + version.
👎🏻 app lies about needing Bluetooth for Pencil support
App prompted me to allow Bluetooth, claiming it was for Pencil support. Knowing that Bluetooth is used by nefarious apps to track users against their will, I said “Don’t Allow”. The app still worked just fine with my Pencil, despite not having the Bluetooth access it claimed to need – leaving me to question what it really wanted that Bluetooth access for.
