My battery was decimated today. I’m not sure what happened, but when I checked Battery Health on my one-year-and-odd-months-old iPhone XR, it reported this app used 57% of my battery life just running in the background. In the past I never noticed enough drain that I wanted to check, but today I did and I was shocked. All this app does is count time and occasionally ping your location. My employer does not provide me my phone and I’m pretty sure Heartland or whoever is not going to pay to replace my battery in a year because its app is working it over oh so hard. The irony is I have a coworker who has never had a smartphone and clocks in and out using the Heartland website on a company computer. His battery in his flip phone is not being wrung dry by Heartland, neither is his privacy being compromised by the tracking in this app. All these things to consider now, thanks! One star because I have no choice, and one more for the so-called convenience of this “app.”
Heartland's Face ID system failed me severely. Although you can change the "Face ID Configuration" via the mobile software, it does not actually change the picture assigned to your employee profile, only the utility of actually being able to clock in/out. I didn't know that. I was told I could "always change" my picture later, so I was a little careless with the capture when I was initially photographed. Now if someone wants to "switch" shifts with me, they have to look at an out of focus picture of me, neither looking at the camera nor indulging in a soft yet sincere smile. Instead of charm, they see ennui. Nor does Heartland's website help compensate for the narrow features of this mobile "paradise." I couldn't find anything in profile settings, nor their help center. Please for the love of god let me change my Face ID photo. For anybody else whose employer is going to set up Face ID, make sure to take the first photo very seriously; it won't be going away any time soon.
Every time I have to check in to work, I have to turn my phone off and then back on just to get it to work, other wise it just sits at the load screen and does nothing, that’s overly annoying/frustrating and it makes me look like I’m 5 or 10min late for work everyday (not cool), the other thing is, having to keep your location turned to on all the time running in the background is BAD for your phones battery life, I have definitely had a decrease in my phone holding a charge all day and at work, I really feel this is a app for if your place of work gives you a work phone to use this on, it shouldn’t be on your own personal everyday phone, if I have to get new iPhone because the battery dies, is this app/work going to pay for a new one?? I currently can not afford a new phone, also don’t really like the whole having to take a picture to clock in and out, where are those being sent/used/stored/ect.???? The app is just frustrating!!!!!!!
While this may just be a review for the Heartland app, I would also like to mention that everything about this company is terrible. My employer has had countless big mistakes made and has had to put in so much extra time because of it. Neither the website or the app will pet me log in. I have the right password because the website logged me in once. If I go to reset my password on the website it sends me an email and then when I enter in a new password it tells me that it was filled out incorrectly. I tried with different passwords and nothing worked. On the app, if I click forget my password it says it sends me an email and it never does. Not in junk or spam or anything. Heartland is a terrible service and shouldn’t even exist. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
I’m 35 and I’ve had dozens of jobs throughout my life most of which I’ve been able to use direct deposit since I started working in the early 2000s. Heartland by far is the worst experience I’ve ever had with any sort of online HR cloud, suite. It’s 2023 and they don’t have a calendar sync feature. You can’t leave the app running in the background and relaunch it without getting an error. It made me create two profiles because you need an account to view my schedule and another account for payroll they’re not the same account you have two separate accounts for the same person. To view the paystub I have to download a file I can’t just walk out like a PDF in app. Ever since my employer started using this app, I’ve only grown more frustrated while trying to view my paychecks, now trying to to get my W-2 or just see my schedule. I would not recommend this software to any potential employer.
I know it’s hard to build a truly solid app and website and keep it consistently running well but spend the money. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had with an app where I can never just view what I need to without having to logon when I’m already logged in. Go to login and it’s always the wrong password. How when it just worked yesterday? I’ve had to change my password 9 times in 5 months because it’s constantly saying it’s invalid.
This app is a steaming pile of dog excretion. If you clock out for lunch, by the time you open the app to clock in it’ll log you out for some unknown reason. You’ll select the “don’t ask me again for 45 days” but lo and behold it’ll ask you again the next day or two. You’re better off logging in via a web browser. I can’t even count the amount of times I’ve had to email my HR to fix my clock ins due to this “easy and convenient” app. Ha!
Both me and my wife work for the same company and they use this payroll app, everytime we try to login it shows some guy with a girl and a child at a laptop, and just will NOT load. Can login via the website but says ‘no accounts are assigned’ or whatever. Very occationally i can actually view my pay stubs, 99% of the time i have issues like this, PLEASE fix this app. It really has potential to be a good app if it worked
This app is by far the worst possible app I have ever used. Our company switched to heartland at the beginning of the year and it is terrible. When logging in it goes to the dashboard, tries to load and then takes you right back to the login. You cannot make changes to anything, personal info included. Just terrible! You can access anything via the website either, it just does the same thing.
It took nearly an hour to get to my profile. The temporary password doesn’t work. When I finally got in, it had my name but no onboarding process was found. I had to go through multiple verification codes to finally be able to change the password. ALL but one (suspicious) review states how awful this app is. I had to force my internet security to allow me to access the website.
This app is the most infuriating piece of garbage I have ever had to use. Currently, I can’t log in so I have no idea how much I’m making this week and the app is completely broken. If you don’t wait until it is done loading to click anything on the side menu, then the app just breaks and never stops loading. I hate this app and I don’t think it can even be fixed.
This app is junk. It’s very important that I am able to retrieve my paystubs when needed and 90% of the time I try to use this app it crashes. You would think with how important a persons paystubs are, that they would put some actual time and work into this app. I hate that my company uses it and really wish there was an alternative. I would give this zero stars if it was possible.
It works for the most part. The app freezes upon sign in a lot, but I just close it and open and it works. Wish we could see better functionality for admins as well. As a user I can see all the personal info I need.
Doesn’t work well for everyone. My app is missing a lot…time and location missing schedule missing time off missing it’s been almost a month now and the problem still hasn’t gotten corrected. At times it seems to have a virus flashing on and off in red encrypted symbols.
I have reset the password and tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing changes. Don’t try to get this app it doesn’t work and is more of a pain to even offer it and try to get it to work then just logging in from a desktop computer. Definitely worthless.
I downloaded the app because their browser website DOES NOT WORK. This also has SO MANY issues. Shows nothing half the time and puts out an error message after logging in when trying to view paychecks or anything but the Home Screen. PLEASE FIX YOUR SYSTEMS!!
This company could not design a slower more glitchy problematic website and app if it were tasked with the project! Regularly freezes, lags like dial up, and has zero tech support. Our company uses them and it’s the most frustrating part of getting paid by far!
Constantly gives error messages and I have been indefinitely unable to view paystubs via the app . I have to print paystubs using web based platform IF the web version even works. Sometimes it has taken a full week of reattempting to get anything to open.
They’re website and app don’t work. I can’t access any of my pay info. I know that heartland doesn’t care but this is really frustrating and has made a simple task a week long saga. I don’t know why my company uses them. They are completely useless and a scam.
This app is made so your boss can spy on you. Your boss and heartland can access your location even when you’re off the clock. Thankfully my Apple phone warned me that MY LOCATION WAS ACCESSED OVER 40 TIMES on the weekend when I wasn’t working. Tell your boss to shove this app where the sun don’t shine.
Heartland, increase your budget for app developers and get this app up to speed. It is so frustrating, I never know which login I need to use (why can’t there be one login for allllll). When I can figure out which one will log me in, it just spins.
I really only use this app to see my paystubs but it seems to never work. I’ll try and wait out the error messages but it’ll just keep doing it and the website is no better either. Nothing works
Absolutely garbage, constantly crashes, isn’t the same for everyone’s account. Would suggest with going with a different clock in app. Unless you want constant issues with the app.
If you are looking for a payroll processor that processes your payroll whichever day they feel like, have horrible customer service, and have a terrible app and website then go ahead and sign up for their services!
App never even opens, when it does it’s flashing red error codes! Fix the app, not all of us have a desktop to access our paystubs online. Needs better mobile access

Absolutely the worst app ever use. You should be embarrassed to put out such trash that holds such important information as employment and Social Security addresses things that she needs. This is absolutely disgusting.
If your employer uses this app…. Run for the hills. The worst app ever. Tracks your location even when off the clock. Very invasive. Cheap retail gas stations use this because they are cheap.
