The app does indicate your usage. Where it falls short is that it says you’re good on data when you are likely not. Calculator should not be whether you have any data or not ... but rather calculated as A=“planGB / 30” and B=“data used / 30” if b>a then turn icon yellow and have app option do a daily notification warning until usage rate is within plan. Currently by the time you see you’re run out it too late to do anything about it.
Anyone who has Hughesnet most likely has very little to no other option because there’s no way anyone is out here electively choosing this 1990 service for wifi!! However if you happen to be reading this because you’re looking for the best service here are the pros and cons Pro: it is available when most nothing else is… this is also a con because they know it. That’s it, no other pros! Con: 1. Customer service does NOT care about your complaint of any kind. They do not care so don’t waste you’re time. 2. If you live in a household with more than 2 people do not expect 100 GB to last you all month. Actually don’t expect it to last you a week. 3. When you upgrade your plan from 100 to 200 and you will, don’t expect that to last either. 4. You can go from 100 gb to 0 in 24 hours and when you call to ask how that’s possible they just blame it on a gaming console even though no one was on it and that’s not possible… back to # 1 they do not care!! 5. The price (eye roll) 6. do NOT buy their tokens. This is where they get you and they know it 7. If it’s raining it doesn’t work 8. If the wind is blowing it doesn’t work 9. Did I say customer service 10. All of it If you can get Starlink I would highly recommend doing that and fyi they have dropped their start up price -> run don’t walk to do this instead!! Good luck!
I’m so disappointed and this Internet provider is a joke. It doesn’t even work sometimes it does work and sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t even use my smart devices on it for example Alexa, or my security cameras it doesn’t work at all. it is a Internet provider very expensive. it doesn’t even work. I need to find another Internet provider. You people have to let me go without me paying a thing because it is very expensive and it hasn’t worked. fix it.
This is the worst most unreliable product you could spend money on. They won’t even return my calls 50% of the time. It’s always a foreigner who can barely speak English which is not helpful. I was happy with the installer but the actual internet service was awful. Slow and not working at all for hours and sometimes a day or more. Yet they continue billing promptly. So frustrating. Lloyd Barnes.
This internet carrier is a SCAM!!!!! They take your money every month but give nothing in return! You will not ever get a signal from this company and when you call to complain they will tell you that your dish needs to be realigned which a service man will come out to realign but it will cost you over 100 dollars each time. After you have paid the company and the service is done you will not get internet anyway! You will never get enough of a signal to stream a movie!!! Forget it!!! The whole company is a SCAM to get your money and drive you crazy!!! Use your phone company instead! You have a better chance than going with This Deceptive Company!!!!! Good Luck!
They are disrespectful and not willing to fix the issues with there dishes and I got disrespected from them even from the management team would never recommend them to NO ONE EVER should be disrespected like I was and did not want to fix or help resolve the issues with there equipment WORSE COMPONY TO DEAL WITH I DO NOT RECOMMEND HUGHES NET AT ALL GO TO SOME OTHER COMPANY
If you are looking to waste your money on wifi that never works or runs out in the first week of use. This is perfect for you. If you love to be scammed out of money!!! this is the perfect wifi company. If you like dealing with untruthful and untrustworthy people......this is the place
It's the worst thing in EVERYTHING I can't say that it has something good since there isn't. The worst company of all, I just hope to finish the contract and cancel it immediately.
The app was updated, great looking welcome sign in screen. Worked for 3 days now error message not ALLOWED to log-in. Called customer care with no result. Was told they were still working on improvements and to try in a couple days. I noticed my account on emails no longer show my original profile info - in fact it had bogus phone numbers!!! Something ain’t right! YEAH! Finally... app appears to be working. I must comment on Hughes net in general. I have had their service going on 14 years. The folks that handle their customer care are condescending and flippant. 99% of the time I end up frustrated and angry. As far as the internet service goes, it was better a couple years ago, seems to have a BIG LAG and slow nowadays. Their phone addition service is horrible to use due to its own LAG. My options on other services are not available but I think once they are available in my area, I will drop Hughes Net. Because I have no other options, I feel taken advantage of, mostly because of the attitude and high cost. Since they have time to improve before more options come my way, I will give them that time to improve. It’s a wait and see.
With all the bad reviews for not being able to use this, I figured I had just wasted 22MB downloading it. Happily it is working just fine and it gives me exactly what I needed, quick access to the usage meter. (Web & App reported same usage.) I downloaded on iPad, restarted iPad, opened the App and it took me to the sign in screen. I hit 'Register', not 'Sign In'. It took me to the screen where it showed my DSN already there.(Probably because I was connected thru Hughesnet.)Next screen comes up with your user name and you hit , 'Sign In with this user name'. Next thing I saw was my usage meter. Simple straightforward app. But that's okay, it does the thing I wanted most, 1 button to see my usage and beats the heck out of logging into website for just one bit of info. Been waiting a while for this one, so Thank You Hughesnet for showing some appreciation for your customers! Finally! :)
It does everything I need it to do - it shows my data usage, offers the ability to pay my bill (in-app), allows me to update my profile information (also in-app) and shows a list of optional features which can be added to one's plan (clicking on some of these options redirects you to their website in Safari, but you are landed right on the page you need to be). There is also the ability to purchase tokens if it is necessary to add extra GB to your plan (also without leaving the comfort of the app). It seems HughesNet has put some effort into improving this app since it has been developed, and it is WAY easier to use than the desktop site on mobile. I'm happy to have it. Great job, HughesNet, and thank you! :)
Give them 0 stars! 1. Absolutely worst WiFi network ever, so slow, you can’t even watch a 30 sec video. 2. When I called, they NEVER mentioned a 2 year contract-even when I asked if there was any contract I needed to make! 3. Customer service is the worst! They lied about everything. They first told me (within the first week that I complained about the connection) that if I wanted to cut off their service, I needed to pay FREAKING $400 (that I had absolutely NO idea of). Then, I kept calling so that I could have a solution- because it’s absolutely ridiculous for them to put that policy and not letting their customers know- and one of the guys, promised that if they aren’t able to make the connection better, then they wouldn’t charge me the $400 but that I needed to call before the month ends. I called like about 6-8 times in total and they kept telling me that they would find a solution but that they couldn’t take the $400 off because it was a policy that they have, I even showed them multiply recordings of my conversations with them. They didn’t solve anything because they didn’t even know what they were doing. DO NOT GET THIS SERVICE UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY $60+ FOR JUST HAVING A MODEM AND ANTENNA SITTING AROUND, NOT WORKING AT ALL.
What a fantastic Service and I’m not kidding I was very impressed with the equipment the technician installed and I was put on the schedule mediately the following day , and the cost for this service is very affordable and you get the top-notch service and technician and this company know what they’re doing A lot of us have been with many services and I would like to say you will not be dissatisfied with this company and you’ll be hearing a lot about Hughes from many. Wow !! As a business owner since 1982 it’s nice to see a company concentrate on the number one rule in business and that’s Customer Service you just don’t see that much anymore
Do not get! HughesNet internet speed is so slow. The router has also just stopped working multiple occasions and HughesNet wanted me to pay for it to get replaced by them, when we didn’t break it. Also, during set up the technician couldn’t get the signal to work in the living room, so he recommended that we buy a booster. We bought the booster and I haven’t noticed an improvement. They promise fast speed internet, I have yet to see that in the two years I’ve been stuck in a contract with them. The internet has gone out multiple occasions sometimes for hours. Overall, I have no WiFi most of the time, the router randomly stops working, and when I run the speed test on my WiFi standing right next to the router I get 0.83 Mbps. So, if your about to download this app because you recently got HughesNet, I would highly recommend finding a new internet provider.
App gives you ZERO current info. They want you to rely on the app to monitor your current usage, but the gauge doesn’t change… just tells you when you’re out. Then the app tries to sell you more usage when you don’t know what you’ve used. HughesNet-wise, internet sometimes works. DO NOT use Hughes if you have a security system, you will get at best 50% up time under perfect conditions, and nothing if there are clouds. Since HughesNet and DISH are affiliated, DISH is even worse. As others have said, Hughes and Dish have the worst customer service and an, “if you don’t like it leave” attitude, or ignore and basically say, “tuff darts, you’re under contract. They are subsidized and not allowed to go under, because they would give the competition a monopoly… which I wouldn’t mind, even if I had to pay more.
I haven’t had HughesNet for very long. I didn’t think that there could be a internet service any worse than suddenlink. Well not true at all. My daughter is homeschooled. She is on her tablet for around 4 to 5 hours a day. She has zoom meetings every day for a additional hour. We also have our alarm vivant that runs every day 24 hours. We don’t use streaming on our tvs much. But it’s always messing up. Buffering all the time. Since we have had it. Our alarm system is messing up all the time do to internet. I made sure they new we have 3 tvs our alarm and my daughter has on line classes. And they guaranteed me that it would not be a problem. But it’s not true. Pretty sad that I’m going to go back to suddenlink. We have Dish so it’s through them. Ugh. There no good at all!!!!!
When it’s the only option in the area.... then it’s the only option. I can not understand how they are allowed to advertise High Speed Internet, and get away with such false advertising. I agree with the above review... I feel completely taken advantage of. The price is astronomical, for what’s it’s worth!!! We are a family of four, running TWO small businesses, and I have to go into town, sit in a parking lot to get invoicing done. This is merely for my children to use up in a matter of four days MAX!!! It’s ridiculous! There’s “High Speed Internet” IN RUSSIA - IN 12’ of SNOW!! And they can’t pump that s@$t to a little ol upper SC town? I will not even get started on the lack there of Customer Service or Installation Crew. HughesNet is a joke! Well, I guess the joke is on me, because they’re laughing all the way to the bank.
After signing up for their GEN five service, I canceled my service within six weeks. The Internet was so spotty that 90% of the time I didn’t have access. I made calls every 3 to 4 days complaining and to get help. I reported that their service was not as advertised and that I wasn’t getting service I was paying for! I disconnected my service. Three weeks later my bank account was overdrafted by a $561 charge from them. My car payment bounced and it took my grocery money for my kids that week. They are liars about how the service delivers, heartless, unreliable, sorry excuses for an American company. And, 20 measly GB for over $100 a month! In a technology world that we live in, can anyone explain this to me? Disgusting company!! Don’t do it! Call Viasat instead. RUN AWAY!!
app provides contradictory information and harms hardware
Once installed to monitor my friend’s HughesNet account usage, the app provided graphs of contradictory usage data which also differed from information provided by telephone. HughesNet subsequently played havoc with my web access, often substituting on my iPad browser screen demands that I pay my friend’s bill rather than display the website I requested by link. More recently HughesNet provided long error messages rather than the requested web sites. In the same timeframe, successful web access using my laptop as well as other internet providers demonstrated this havoc only occurred on my iPad compromised by installation of HughesNet app. In addition, the app offered to “call for help” on a device with no telephone connection; as expected, it failed.
Calling for technical support is a joke. I've been disconnected 3 out of 4 times with no one being able to help with my simple question - the purchased GB's. That should be a simple answer. Also, the Hughes mobile app has never worked, and now the so called newer one isn't compatible with the browser Safari - nothing works. I constantly get the CIRCLE GOING AROUND AND AROUND whenever I try to watch classes, and I have plenty of GB left for the month. Things start slowing down every morning at 6AM - even during the bonus period. I'm so frustrated with Hughes - even though the people are all nice. Hopefully the new infrastructure bill will help people in rural areas with some decent Wi-Fi.
This is a scam! Your data speed is 25mps for three days each billing cycle until you use up the tiny bit of data that comes with your plan ($70 plus a month for your locked 2 year contract!) or you can buy additional time through tokens (there’s the hook!)! No hard data limits is true but they throttle it back to barely dialup speed! (Unless you are awake in non peak hours when even God isn’t awake!)! This service is only good if you have ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE! And beware of your data being consumed (according to them!) even if your not using it?! How does that happen!? Never would have signed up if I had known this was how it worked! Now stuck in two year contract with horrible provider!
I’m unsure if it is the app or if it is just the Hughes net company as an internet service provider, but I have not lived at the residence where my dish is located AND my router has been with me at my new apartment unplugged and in the box, but somehow my data hub says that I’ve used over 1 GB of data THIS month. My question is how? There’s no physical way for me to have used this data, and it needs to be fixed. Otherwise HughesNet is literally stealing my money. I already hate that I’m stuck in his two year contract that I’m not using, but you won’t tell me that I’m using a service that there clearly no way for me to use. I even reported this same thing last month, and it happened AGAIN this month.
Ironically, in the middle of writing my initial review, the internet cut out and I had to restart. That is the starting point of this review. I wouldn’t recommend this app or this company to my worst enemy. The customer service is terrible and I have never, ever experienced a situation wherein I waited hours and hours online for support, after their poor service brought about the death of my father in-law, to anyone. After bringing in a 3rd party, it was noticed (far too late for my father in-law) that old equipment was used to create an ad-hoc setup which was beyond illegal, contract wise. The app is ridiculously ineffective when you are away from local WiFi, and HughesNet as a whole is beyond awful. Don’t ever use this company, and furthermore, never download the app. Your family and home are at stake. We’ve lost a loved one due to them, and we don’t want anyone to have to deal with the same thing. HughesNet will do NOTHING to support you, but is happy to add fees onto your contract. We are dumping them as soon as ViaSat comes out. WORST COMPANY EVER!
I wish I would of read the negative comments before I signed up with this company. Called customer service and was basically insulted by being asked if I was sure I logged in properly as if was my fault I couldn’t get my bill information. You can sure get on if you want to buy tokens. Even if you call in they can’t tell your total bill WITH TAX INCLUDED. Have to wait until auto pay takes it out. Is not the speed you pay for too. Seems to run out of MB’s fast and want you to buy tokens. Will be leaving as soon as contract up. Look elsewhere for internet service
Pro: The app is good to keep track of the data usage. I’ve never had to use the wifi tool when there’s a problem so I can’t speak to that. Con: The only issue I’ve ever really had with the app is that it consistently says the wrong bill amount, usually $0. My regular amount comes out anyway. I expect the regular amount, so that doesn’t surprise me, but could be misleading to those who depend on app data.
This is the only internet offered in my area. It is horrible. We have the highest plan and some how we run out of data the same day it is renewed. So we spend the next 29 days watching the screen buffer. I called the service department to get some information and all I can hear are chickens and dogs barking in the background. They have no answers other than our location is “under an umbrella” whatever that means. I’m very disappointed in the service. We pay entirely too much for such crap service. We’ve resorted to watching DVD’s. I wouldn’t recommend hughesnet to anyone who lives in a rural area.
WiFi is horrible when I first got the service I called said it was horrible they said it was because I was using VPN. They just wanted me to go with a higher price service. Stuck with a two year contract called back two years later to cancel. They asked what the problem was I needed it for work with VPN and your service doesn’t work, “they said oh we can send you a device to help with that”. Explain to me why I wasn’t told that two years ago. To bad I already went with another provider that ROCKS connection and cheaper. I can work and stream until my heart is content with no max!
This is the worst internet I’ve ever had. They call you when you give them bad reviews and try to walk you through basically deleting everything off you’re devices just so their internet seems to run faster. They tell you this plan will be perfect for your family of four that doesn’t have tv and streams EVERYTHING. We burn through the data in two days and then suffer for a month. Going to go get a Verizon hot spot for the house because it works better than this crap. Half the time it can’t even run this app! If you think HughesNet is your only option please look again, dial up is better than this.
I now completely understand why this app doesn’t even make it to a 2 rating. I’ve had this service for a little more than 2 weeks and we can’t do anything. I called last week to tell them how slow it was. Stayed on the phone over and hour and guess what..still nothing. Then yesterday the security guy comes to fix our alarm and he tells me we have a 2G router. What is 2G? Didn’t it start with 3G? I was warned not to get Hughes Net and now I’m sorry I didn’t listen. Unfortunately another internet company can’t get out here until the end of the month but I’m done.
If you don’t use the internet you may like this company
If, however, you purchased internet because you want be able to use it at all, for instance, use your phone, stream movies, keep in touch on Facebook or other apps, this is NOT the company for you. 2 yrs of suffering through their contract will leave you begging to find even DSL quality connections to the outer world. I have two months to go under contract… I’m counting the minutes. I have time to do that because I don’t waste any of my time watching anything on television thanks to my inability to stream anything via HughesNet.
Downloaded and was having same log in issues as some of the other reviewers. Tried 3 times with id and password and it kept telling me to try again. So I turned off the hide password feature (the little eyeball to the right of password box) and it worked straight away. Not sure if it's what did it but it's worth a try if you have same issue
The app needs enhancements to enable a more effective way of viewing past performance history. The current approach is not user friendly. It would also be nice if the app could display which devices were consuming the data. This would users better manage their data consumption. The app also isn’t updated in real-time and I’ve often had to wait until overnight to see data usage.
This is by far the worst app in have ever seen. You can tell NO money is put into this . Half the time it say error and cant get your information and have to close app and go back in to see if you can see information. However I am not surprised this app is SOOOOOO bad cuz my internet service out in the country to VERY bad. I have had my service for about 5 months now and had to get all new equipment. Tech says I have only his 16 perfect signal in over 11 years but still can’t watch Netflix with a clear signal
Downloaded and registered easily and immediately updated with my data usage so now I can have an immediate readout even if I am not in front if my PC. Wifi meter is a really useful tool. I was able to identify a wifi weak spot caused by another wifi device. Navigation seems easy - very pleased!
ABSOLUTELY THE WORST INTER…BC YOU CANNOT CALL IT INTERNET!
Do not stress yourself out with this inter it will not work for you or anyone for that matter! Total waste of money and time! This company IS A SCAM. We received a call from scammers that knew A LOT about my account so I got tricked and scammed for 1000 us dollars that went straight to India and I truly believe it happened because of Hughes net or an employee of Hughes net, and do you for one second think that they did anything about it…nope, they blamed ME YEP ME! But the internet does not work, spend your efforts elsewhere!
First of all when it does work which is not often I don’t get anywhere near the speeds promised. Paying 60 a month and you download 1-2 games from Xbox live and you’ve run out of data for the entire month and speeds are then throttled to less then 1mbps. Which makes the service unusable. Can’t do Netflix, can’t even browse the web. And forget downloading a game or playing online Nope. What a scam this company is. And was told I need to pay 300 dollars to cancel. lol. Good luck getting that 300.
Slow internet that barely works. If it’s cloudy outside IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL. Expensive rates and hidden fees. Terrible customer service outsourced to a different country that makes it very difficult to understand and communicate with. They kept trying to talk us into staying and telling us that the slow speeds were our fault! Charged us almost twice as much as we signed up for then tried to charge us $400 to cancel!! YOU ARE BETTER OFF GETTING DIAL UP! This company is a scam!
If you’re planning to get Hughesnet forget about it. Cancel before the first months over. My family didn’t and we had several problems with the WiFi. We’d end up using up all the data for ONE month and the only available data was during 2-8 am which nobody is awake. It overall isn’t a reliable WiFi provider. Also, we were never told of a two year contact, and now I’m stuck with slow unreliable WiFi for two years
Has basics like usage dashboard and ability to buy tokens. Needs ability to check status and drill down usage by day and times throughout the day to help assist in more effective monitoring. Also tried to update the billing email since it was wrong, but wouldn't save since it said my home address didn't match (which was already populated and correct)???
I never write bad reviews unless the company is pure trash. Hughes is. This was my only option where I live. No cell service (otherwise I would use my Verizon, which by the way, is still faster after being throttled) here. Now I pay $140 a month for absolute crap. The satellite dish has a clear view and still delivers dial up speed. My utility company is working on getting (true) high speed internet out here and I’ll be the first to sign up. Extremely disappointed.
If I could go with another provider, I would. The dish is constantly losing connection and it takes an act of Congress to get HughesNet to come out to fix it. Plus, their technicians don’t work on Saturdays which makes it even more difficult to schedule without having to take time off my work. Additionally, the chat option in the app to contact customer service rarely works.
Tried to pay my bill but whenever I enter the exact amount it keeps on giving me an error saying to enter the exact amount or less, so I took off a dollar and it said the same thing. Went all the way to $0.01 and kept saying the amount I enter was more than the current balance. For being a network provider their system is way outdated.
Called a representative today regarding upgrading my plan, unable to upgrade plan from 30g to 50g( was told that an adequate plan was not available in my area ) so now I am sitting at a Verizon store trying to backup my iPad; service rep. at Hughes was unfamiliar with apple products. Hopefully, Hughes will begin to offer large enough data plans in my area and increase their upload and download speed to satisfy their customers. Very disappointed, Preed
They charge you ridiculous prices say it’s unlimited but they lie the service is horrible they make you buy data tokens on top of your monthly payment to even stream I’ll be glad when real internet is offered in my area don’t waste your time or money that’s all they want is your hard earned money they cut your service to 3mbps you can’t watch anything
I have had Hughes net for about a month… I cannot get any other Internet here… I'm not sure that I would be better off with none… I don't even stream movies and it won't even connect to the Wi-Fi on my phone half of the time… Get Internet somewhere else. Then after I had it installed I got a thing in the mail saying high speed Hughesnet Internet. False advertisement if there ever was any!!!!!
Most of the reviews are stale. The developers have had several releases and the app works great. Many actions are far easier to use in the app than via a browser.
