Even labeled a spider as a wasp when it’s obviously a spider Thank you for the update and would be nice if you included them in with your bug and insect identification. Thank you for your updated response and I am updating this review to reflect the overall performance on other bug identification
FYI: This app DOESN’T identify spiders (and also doesn’t work on insects)
I agree with most others who say it doesn’t work in insects. I tried several different insects and it didn’t make one correct identification, even after 3 attempts. And as an aside, I know spiders are arachnids, but as an app user/app purchaser, if you’re trying to quickly figure out what kind of little “bug-like” creature you have in front of you, especially when you don’t know if it’s dangerous or not, various spiders should be included. This last piece is completely my personal opinion, and any developer can choose to make their app how they want it but I wished I would’ve made the distinction before I downloaded this app. Dang it, now I lost the spider I was trying to identify (before I started writing this review) and don’t know where he went!!
I had some bugs on my rose plant, took some pictures and then i took the bugs put it in a ziplock bag, and i took few photos. one of the photos i took next to a penny, so after i downloaded the app, i used it to take a picture, now it does have an area of focus, so i made sure the bug is in that area and in focus, i took the picture, and it took only the penny part, AI my @#$$ , and it identified it as a red bug. since the app has an option to use already taken pictures, i tried (mind u that is the second attempt), it would not identify and it want to upgrade, otherwise it is as if i have done nothing. i tried few times and same , so I deleted it. waste of time. don't bother
This app is a great idea but it would need some serious work, I started by scanning a photo of a mound ant (Formica exsectoides) and it thought it was a type of wasp, I get that that could happen as they are somewhat related, however after more trials with different insects it never got anything right, and most of the time it just labeled things as a type of wasp, it even thought an American cockroach was a ground wasp. Overall I think this is a great idea for an app but until it’s more reliable as a tool to identify things then I would not recommend it.
Super great app! Not needed very much so subscriptions are not something I would purchase but on the rare occasion that bug identifying is needed this is a great resource. Thank you for not charging for this helpful service . Senior on fixed low income and this free app is wonderful!!
On a blurry picture, it called my red stag beetle a monarch butterfly. I got it on a better picture and then it called it a Carolina grasshopper. We live in Alabama. this so-called app charges you real money for an app that doesn’t even work. I agree with some of the first ratings of it, calling a spider, a wasp and other insects completely different things. I completely understand if you mixed up species, but not entirely different animals.
After downloading the app I tried to identify 2 insects. One was wrong and the other might have been right but unless you subscribe it doesn’t let you look at the results and provides nothing other than the insect name.
It got right the first time I tested this app with a monarch. Then I tried again with a ladybug and it gave me a very accurate result down to the species level🐞 🐞 🐞!!
I have been billed 9 times since signing up for the app on August 2 thru October 5 in the amount of $2.99. I want to cancel app and get a refund of what was over charged. Please contact me. Thank you.
Don’t waste your time. This doesn’t work. Had a close up of a small beetle, said it was a bee. Took a photo of my coffee table, said it was a lady bug, then another time, a bee.
Tried to identify an insect. App called it wasp which it clearly wasn’t. When I tried to retake photo it wanted me to pay for app. Useless and NOT free.
Identified what looked like a locust as a ladybug. And all of a sudden my junk mail increased. (By chance or by lack of security?) I deleted it. Hopefully the developer keeps improving the app and gets more users as a result.
bro I have a pet ladybug and when I scanned it it was identified as a potter wasp and when I tried scanning it again it asked for a subscription so I deleted the “potter wasp” and scanned it again but it still wants a subscription so it basically wants me to spend money a month just to frickin identify a goddamn ladybug
