When I first starting app it was a little difficult to use, but as I used it more it seemed to be updated & now offers everything I’m looking for, Pinpoint Radar, weather info for each day including wind,temperature, wind direction, chance of rain & more all by the hour for a few days. The a weekly forecast with basic information.
Many times this app has frozen (won’t open past the home screen), won’t open (says turn on Wi-Fi - Wi-Fi is on and everything else works perfectly). Very frustrating. This happened on my old iPhone and now with my I have new up to date iPhone. I love using weatherunderground. It’s much more up to date and doesn’t crash or freeze. I have uninstalled and reinstalled more than 20 times during the last year in order to check the weather during a storm when it is “frozen”. If it wasn’t for the times this does work, and the school cancellations, I would ditch this app.
A while back an update to the weather app took away the big radar view that let me see if I needed to be concerned about an imminent storm or weather change. Now after the insertion of the same meaningless ad day after day to get into the site, I have to hunt to find even the most basic bits of weather news among all of the unneeded clutter on the screen now. I want simple information quickly from a weather app. If I need something more in depth, I can scroll down.
While your app can provide good information, it is slowed and cluttered with ads for virtually anything. It is impossible to quickly see vital weather information because the user must first navigate through an obituary advertisement which cannot be bypassed. After getting by the initial advertisement, the screen is cluttered by even more of the annoying ads. If your station is not able (or financially secure enough) to provide an app that contains more wearger information than ads, please remove it.
Your new website is difficult to navigate. I cannot find your previous narratives which I found to be helpful. I have struggled to write a review and figure out a nickname that you will except. It seems that you were just trying to aggravate your viewers.
Until today I would have given the KCRG more than 2 stars. Last night the weather station I relied on for weather info & alerts worked perfectly. Now the app is telling me that “ the application is not available in my location”. I haven’t moved. I have the same phone. I still can use the KCRG News app. What has changed? have used the weather app for a number of years because I trusted the team to provide the most accurate, updated weather forecast. I watched Joe Winters before there were apps. I already miss him! Help!! JAC
Tornado!? I wouldn’t know cause I had to wait for ads!
Today was my last straw with your app. I got the notification there was a tornado warning for my area, thank god it wasn’t because I had to wait through 2 30 second ads before it let me view the video the notification was linked to. That’s a whole minute while I also had to reassure an autistic kiddo that I was sure it was a false alarm and that it must be for someplace else…and that’s not mentioning how many tornado warnings that came 6 minutes or more AFTER they were issued.
This weather app is a great app EXCEPT it won’t give you any options for sending you any notifications if there are advisories out. We had a winter weather advisory this morning that would’ve been nice to know about in order to be aware of slick roads and delayed travel issues. At least make it an option to turn on the notification settings in the app.
I’ve never had an issue with it. It’s my favorite app to use for checking the weather. It’s usually the most accurate and up to date predicted information you can get.
I get it, ads make money and they’re everywhere now. However it’s rather frustrating to be forced to watch a 30 second ad before a 15 second video clip. At this point, all I ask is that the ads to be proportionate to the length of the video (like a 5 second ad for a 15 second video). I used to use this app all the time but I’m getting pretty tired of watching more ad than weather update.
While I understand that ads are necessary, when there is severe weather afoot, the ads just block pertinent and important information. Furthermore, the app itself runs sluggishly. Going to the website is much better during severe weather where updates need to happen unimpeded by ads and slow speeds.
Ever since the new update my radar doesn’t work. There are time when nothing shows on radar but then I go to a different weather app and it will show cells in our area. Used to be my go to app but can’t trust it any longer

Everything about the app is nicer, smoother, and faster than any of the other apps I’ve tried (AccuWeather, Apple’s weather app, and The Weather Channel)
Either that or the more likely conclusion is user error but, after the recent changes to the radar display, I can no longer click the change what radar I want to see (past, past and future, or future). That is a real bummer! Also getting phantom storms now where there are severe markings on the map but no rain or storm activity at all behind them. Can we have the old radar back please?
Hi, new setup to view the view quickly is awful. You have ads that take forever to clear and can’t even get to a very easy to read pinpoint Doppler like before. Change is good when things need to change, but if something isn’t broke, why fix it! Go back to the old format …..PLEASE!!!!. I will no longer go to KCRG for new and weather updates if this can’t be done!!!!!!! Maybe KWWL understands that new technology just because you can use it is better!
This app used to be incredible. Accurate and detailed radar with many useful alerts. For some reason they keep updating the app making it harder and harder to use. It used to have a single banner ad, very reasonable for a free app. Now starting the app gives you an entire page ad for at least 10 seconds. They have also decreased the size of the radar preview making it all but useless.
Been watching channel 9 for 58 plus years. Minus two years I spent living in Texas. I trust and enjoy hearing about my hometown of Cedar Rapids Iowa no matter where I go it will always be my home for news and best coverage of Eastern Iowa news and weather.
No seriously, does it? I’ve had it load for me twice in the past four weeks, and I check the weather every day. They used to give me the most reliable up-to-date weather for any local area, and their weather maps were the best out there. I miss them terribly, but one of these days I’m going to stop checking to see if it will work for me.
The app is often wrong, even compared to their own website!! App also takes forever to load and then stops at an ad for 5-20 seconds! This is just a greed app for them - just use their website or any other app. And the support for the app is non existent! Goes to their website where they just ignore and blast you with 100x ads there
Really like this app but in order to use the weather function on my Apple Watch I have to use a different app. It would be nice to get a version that will work with Apple Watch so that I can continue to use this app!
This add has been awesome - very helpful, but the last update that was done today on it cause the app to whack out - I’m seeing more adds & other things that shouldn’t be in this app. On top of that the app isn’t displaying temperatures correctly on the 9-12 day forecast. Please fix.
Definitely less useful than the previous news/weather app
The radar is far less useful than the one that used to be on their news site. I would much prefer to get my weather and KCRG news from one location but now I have to open two different apps. It also redundant that the app always starts with an advertisement for the app.
Sitting here with tornado sirens and can’t find the live weather stream on this dang app. I used to be able to find it without issue, but now all I can find are the individual warning videos which offer nothing for current tracking. Disappointed they’ve deprioritized the safety of they’re viewers with bad user experience updates.
Good for tracking normal weather but when severe weather hits and I’m checking on my loved ones and trying to watch the broadcast I don’t want to have to watch a stupid ad every time I tune back in to the broadcast. Even if I let the broadcast load when service is spotty and my screen times out and locks, guess what… another ad. Fix this please!
I knew from commercials that the app had changed designs. I did not like the way it looked, so I avoided updating. I accidentally updated it a week ago and I was right, I hate it. I am considering looking at other apps, even though I love channel 9 and I’m used to the meteorologists. There is just too much going on when you first open the app. It’s difficult to find the information I am looking for.
I used to love this app. Now I use a different one. A change was made and now all it says when you click on the shaded area is “special weather statement”. That does not tell me enough information. It used to say things like “tornado watch” or “severe thunderstorm warning” which is actually useful. So disappointed in this app.
Some of the past issues have been resolved i.e. crashing and the frozen radar page but the widget is stuck on weather from a week ago. I tried restarting my phone, deleting the app and reinstalling the app but it makes no difference. And where is the barometric pressure? Where’s the app support?
Not sure who thought scrolling through multiple screens worth of info to find what I’m looking for was a good idea! And the map on the main screen is now < 25% of the visible screen! These most recent changes are not good, and after years of using this app, I may look for a replacement. 😕
Once upon a time this was my favorite weather app. When I want to see a forecast I don’t want to see a bunch of advertising. Like most apps any more they a just a bunch of advertisements for garbage I really don’t want to see. I think I will delete this garbage and tune in to the AM radio for my weather.
I constantly have trouble with the radar loading, no matter how many times I play with the map layers it won’t show precipitation accurately. I end up closing and pulling up your competitors app and it loads perfectly fine.
Every time this app is updated it works worse than the time before. Now it freezes so often that I’m probably going to just unload it and find another app. This is becoming way to annoying.
Every time you want to watch the weather forecast you have to watch an advertisement. You would think that a tv station would be happy that you are using their app. That shows loyalty. But instead they use the app to jam advertisements down your throat.
As a farmer I put trust in Kai to inform me of the weekly forecast and extended outlooks. Don’t always like them but Mother Nature has the final call. Keep up the good work.
This app has used 4 hours of background activity in the last 24 hours. I only opened the app once to check the temp. I don’t even have notifications on. There is no way to block this in the background activity settings either. Please fix this as it’s drawing my batttery. Thx!
Within the span of 25 minutes in which I checked four times, the forecast went from 10% rain to 70% rain to 50% rain to 5% rain. Some might call the fluctuations but I call it dummy syndrome. “Only thing you can be terrible at and still have a job.”
I have turned off the lightning and precipitation notifications via settings in the app but still receive those notifications...all the time. I turned these off months ago and the problem still persists.
Love the app. Giving it 3 states because every time I go to another app and settle back to it it reboots from the start up ad. This is the worst part about it. Not major but annoying.
Don’t know if it’s just me but every time they make a change it takes longer time load. I can’t wait for several minutes for a weather app to load. It’s great once it loads.
