The referrals are really good when you provide top tier service. I make close to 1k a month from them. But I will say if you have to reschedule due to weather. Your rating goes does down. Which makes you try and still do the jobs even in bad weather. Which we all know are lower quality. So you get a bad rating. The wait for payment is kind of annoying. But at the same time it’s guaranteed. The biggest annoyance is that the customer chooses the day of service. So if your not careful you will spend a ton of time driving instead of cutting. The rates can be low sometimes, when compared to drive time and cut time. However I usually get the neighbors on board so it works out. It’s way better than some of the other apps out there. Buts still needs a bit of tweaking.

Constant issue with the app
I became a service provider with the app, first week went kinda smoothly. But then the app began to fail left and right. You need to upload before and after pictures for everything. Not an issue to do, but and issue to actually upload them. The app won’t accept uploading pictures, the app won’t let you submit bids for jobs. While that is all going on they penalize you for being late on your submissions. Went from a tier 1 provider with an excellent rating, to a week later take 2 ans my rating plummeted. None of which was in my control. If the app worked like they keep saying it’s going to then I wouldn’t have a problem. But the fact that they are penalizing you for issues that land and fall on their end is absurd. Can’t even begin to explain how much of my free ans unpaid time I spent emailing back and forth with the service representatives. Bottom line is they kept telling me after talking to them that the app would be fixed, when I would just encounter the same issues as before, with nothing being fixed. All the app did was penalize me for their issues ans sully my businesses name locally in the process. I might be willing to change this review if they ever get their ducks in a row, but I’m not holding my breathe on that one. Good luck to anyone that wants to work using this platform, expect to waste your time and not being paid to help develop their broke AF app.

Not worth it for providers
If you’re starting a lawn care business then market and do it on your own. This app will penalize you for customers canceling on their end and no verification with their providers. Being penalized means you get no jobs. I started my own business to operate on my terms. I don’t need an app to tell me I can’t take anymore customers. They don’t care about providers as all of their customer service uses AI to respond. As a provider with a 4.8 rating being penalized for customers simply not wanting a service anymore due to budget doesn’t make sense. Get off the app and compete with their prices. *edit* After I posted this review my stats on the app completely dropped within 24 hours. I all of a sudden had 5 jobs added onto my stats that said “not complete” bringing my completion percentage down to 60% or otherwise ineligible to get new clients on the app (I didn’t have any appointments with the app this week so how did I not complete jobs I never assigned). They’re trying to kick off the providers that have complaints about the app by putting their status in red so no more jobs can be collected. If you respect your business name you won’t let a garbage app like this destroy what YOU are trying to create and build.

Great app
It’s a good way to fill in schedules but if you are an actual established business like we are, you have to account for doing things like employees do like checking in, sending pictures, waiting 3-5 days for your money, very inconvenient when you are trying to get more services or suggesting. Customers in the app don’t take you seriously but will pay you when you do a good job… sometimes. Sometimes you can give them more than they asked to help them and you get crapped on or cancelled for no reason. Speaking of that, if you cancel a schedule or reschedule, you get points knocked off.. that’s not business class to me but oh well, business is business. Prices are lower than usual and as a business it can hurt rather than help so be careful. I don’t know if the app hijacks money off the top but take it as you see it. Be ready to start asking for more money because customers leave sour elements like major overgrowth.

Run!
If you are trying to run a legitimate business stay away. Every single property I have received has been under quoted by a large margin with no account for obstacles in lawns and slopes or anything else that increases lawn time. Square footage is just the starting point to quoting. I showed up to one house that that was $30. It had a steep slope I couldn’t mow and a ton of other string trimming. Easily a $70-80 house. Spoke to customer support and they had the audacity to ask me to do the house anyway and dispute the payment later. No professional business works without guarantee of payment. I spoke to a manager and she openly told me they try to be cheap then she walked back what she said to clarify that it’s because the mowing doesn’t include chemical work. No lawn guy charges that low for not including weed control. They are taking advantage of new providers that don’t know their numbers yet and they know it. Don’t support this business do your own marketing and your profit margins will be much higher. LawnStarter is by far the most expensive way to acquire a client given how big a slice they take. Run.

The new setup is garbage
They’ve made changes to the way their algorithm distributes jobs . They have multiple tiers that range from Platinum Pro to Bronze pro but the only “Pros” who actually get jobs are gold and platinum. No sense in trying to contact their help desk either it’s just a handful of people reading from a company manual while giving you excuses . Also all the customer has to do is call them and make up some kind of issue and they refund the money 50% of the payout (which is already woefully underpaid) . A $50 dollar yard will get you paid roughly $35 but they don’t tell you and the customer always lies about how high the grass is and once you claim it you gotta do it or it hurts your rating which drops your overall tier . Also they charge you $1.50 PER JOB that you complete and they call this their “damage fee” which includes a $5000 deductible which you are forced into with this new update . Run from this app , you might as well go work for someone because they try and tell you how you should run your business while cheating the pro at every turn

Not a great experience w/ the app
Started providing services w/ LawnStarter and the app constantly crashes when uploading before and after pics. Adds a lot of time to route and have had to call customer support a LOT to help with yards that are already done due to overbooking on the marketplace. Pretty long hold times when I call pro support BUT when I get online, they are very helpful. Also, I had met 100% of my services scheduled and took a big hit when I had to reschedule due to lightning and rain (customers first service and they were completely fine rescheduling due to the weather). I think this is a fundamental flaw in the rating system as it encourages providers to complete jobs when yard conditions aren’t great AND in unsafe conditions. If they could work out the kinks, it could be a great app. Still pretty good tho

LawnStarter Team are not Lawn Pros
The people who work behind provider support have no idea what they are doing. Maybe someone just created the app and realized it works (duh) but has no idea about anything to do with the professional lawn industry. When a customer signs up they have an option of choosing weekly or bi-weekly services BUT these services only include “basic” Mowing which means no bush trimming or weed control which as WE ALL know is very highly needed especially to maintain a great looking lawn. I have had customers complain because I wasn’t spraying for weeds or trimming the bushes, well duh!!! You’re not paying for it! But people think that these additional services are included when you hire a company (as they should be) and they are not wrong but LawnStarter doesn’t include that option when quoting the customer sadly. Hopefully LawnStarter will give customers the option of adding weed control and hedge trimming with their future recurring services. I also had a lawnstarter team member once quote $30 to customer for a nearly $200 job. Another time a LawnStarter provider help member didn’t know how weed killer works. After the customer called to complain, He asked me when it was going to take effect when the job was done months ago lol! On top of a lot of other things. Lol oh well, this platform really helps with the bills though, so no complaints there.

Terrible Service For Pros
For example: I had only ever received 5 star reviews. I took a new property for Dec. 1st that hadn’t been mowed since the beginning of November. The customer said it was under 6 inches but it was closer to 10 inches. So the customer was going to be charged double ($80). I spent an hour and a half cutting, edging and trimming, cleaning up. Also it was raining. I finished and some time later get a notification that the customer said I didn’t complete the mow. I had about 15 photos of the mow and so I said that it had 100% been completed. Then I get a notification that there was a dispute that I had done an uneven mow. The uneven mow was accompanied by a photo of my tire tracks in the wet grass. So long story short I was told that I had to go back or they would reassign the customer, pull my fee, and I get a bad rating. LOL, I told them to go right ahead, and I swiftly deleted the app right after. I don’t need to work for free because some clown was upset he got charged more after lying about his grass length.

The truth
I’ve been working for lawn starter for about a month and a half and I think for a just starting out person trying to get known and branch out this is perfect but it does have some flaws because if it rains and you reschedule it says it don’t doc you for inclement weather and I don’t think that’s fair to the providers nor the customer because that would give a false overall rating

Clunky App. Excessive notifications.
This app is so clunky. You would think in the year 2024 a company would be able to figure out how to make their app work correctly. You can’t look at your completed jobs or the pay for each job easily. In addition to that, I get about 55 notifications a day from this app. The notifications are completely useless though and tell me to do tasks that I’ve already done. One of the notifications that keeps popping up is review your performance. I’ve reviewed it 600 times, but the notification still stays there. I’ve turned off notifications for the app. Now it gives me a notification when I open the app saying that I have notifications off. Another thing that is really annoying and unnecessary about the app is that it needs my background location on all the time? No it should be when I’m completing jobs or using the app.

App need to be more streamline
When uploading photos of a property, you can only select 5 photos at a time to upload. There will be incidents where you need to take a lot of angle photos to get paid (long grass and etc). Thus, when you have 30 or more, it's annoying. Also, during the upload, app ask if the select photo is ok to use on each and every one that is uploaded. That's annoying. After submitting long grass with what you just did before. you are then require to resubmit everything you just did to complete the job. Again, it's annoying and a waste of time sitting in the Vehicle to do the same task twice. After you have submit the long grass and complete the task, in a day or two, your long grass claim is decline because of insufficient photos (not enough before or after photos). Even though you have submit every photos you got (twice) before and now, you have to do it a third time from an email for decline long grass claim.

Unreal
I am a new business in the DFW area, and have done well so far, however, most clients through this app have cancelled service over a year and half ago, and Lawnstarter still sends you to them. Costing far more money than what is necessary. Its hurting my business. Please be careful and make sure to ask clients before performing service. Lawnstarter also isnt paying enough for large corner lots that take far more time. The rescheduling shouldn't hurt our ratings either. I went to a clients home and the back yard was over two feet tall, and i asked for a tall grass fee increase and they cancelled as a result. So holding the client to photos prior would be a great help. Im not real happy with the current status of Lawnstarter. Most clients are more than happy to cancel with them and use you direct, its also more of a fair price that way.

Horrible business practices
On multiple jobs, I was notified to go to the property for a set amount which I accepted, But when I got there the grass was A LOT higher than what explained and there was debris everywhere from a storms (assuming). I called back and said the property isn’t what they explained and that there was falling trees and limbs everywhere, they asked me to give a quote to haul off and I told them we don’t haul because we have our mowers on the trailer. They said they’ll have to give the jobs to someone else….. I said cool, but I’ll need my travel fee. They said NO because I wasn’t on a certain “TIER” yet to receive travel fees. Again, this was the 2nd time that day this happened and 3rd time in general. Horrible experience, horrible policies, terrible customer service, horrible business. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!!

Horrible company
This company has some of the worst customer service. They outsource the reps who work from home. The fees are ridiculous and you would be better served finding customers via Facebook marketing boosts rather than spending money on their fees. We found it was more cost efficient to cut ties with them. Stay clear... the straw that broke the camels back if you will, was the last mow for a customer where it had to be double cut. Everyone knows the northeast was inundated with rain in spring of 2020. Every customer we mowed for the past week was double and/or triple cut. We placed a double payout request (which you can do). It was denied because of “insufficient evidence to support the claim”. We submitted pictures and explained the claim. We told them we don’t work for free. We are sure you don’t work for free either. DON’T USE THESE PEOPLE. You won’t make money.

Good concept, Terrible support
I’ve gotten lots of jobs in my area but that is the only upside to this app. They undercharge by 5-10 dollars per lawn. The ranking system is nothing short of ridiculous. If it rains and I reschedule, It hurts your rating. I’ve had numerous times where the customer rescheduled the cut however it was still on my schedule. Making it an absolute waste of me and my guys time. They didn’t pay at first so I tried for a week to get ahold of their support number. When I finally got someone they took 3 days to get 200 of the 800 I am waiting for… Most customers I have dealt with on this app aren’t the most pleasant people ever either but I’m sure it’s just my area. Overall, stay away from this app.

This company owes me $$$
I am a provider and this company fails to acknowledge my requests to be paid on jobs that Ive completed. The customer has the ability to cancel their job at any time. Which happened to me as soon as I completed a job. As I went to invoice for completion the customer had cancelled. That left me with no access to the Job information and I can’t complete my invoice. LawnStarter won’t acknowledge or give me an answer about my issue. It is constant deflection on their part and I can’t believe how far out of their way they are going to not pay me for a job that had 2 separate “up-chargeable” extras (3+ hours) making the job worth almost $200 in extras. One of the extras was for an excepted quote that the customer had requested. DO NOT USE THIS APP. Providers will be abused.. filing civil complaint as we speak.

REAL REVIEW
If lawnstarter wants to stay in business, they need to charge the customer more and have the contractor be able to rate the customer. Contractors get undercut heavily and it becomes a liability rather than profitability. Lawnstarter needs to have the customer post pictures of their lawn prior to the contractor getting there. Too many times We show up to the property for a 35$ quote and the grass is almost 3 feet (100% truth). Sometimes we manually were able to get a quote accepted but other times we had to drive away with no response or rejection. This cuts into overhead costs heavily and production. If lawnstarter read any of their recent reviews they would get the real truth. Not sure how it’s a 4 star rated app when most of the honest reviews are very poor.

UPDATE: customer service and engineering teams were able to resolve the issue I’ve signed up for LawnStarter as a Pro, but I have encountered several issues with the App and website. I’ve even called customer service a few times (they were very pleasant), but there has been no resolution. I can’t even set up my account due to all of the issues, and it is almost the start of mowing season. I’ll change my review once issues are revolved; until then, my rating is a 1-star.

They have no accountability
If you mistakenly damage anything even when having money taken out of what you earn for lawn starter insurance you will still have to pay! Yet when lawnstarter makes any mistakes you will still have to pay ! Calling provide service lines will get you no where the so called supervisors will not call you back as promised this will I have be using them for 5 years and they were good in the beginning I’m not sure if they sold the company but it’s going to trash this will be my last year using this app I hope they’ll get back to what they use to be if not I would’ve waste my time

The worst lawn mowing app
Prices of $30 in yards of $100. You arrive at the place to mow the lawn and it is already cut. People request a weekly service and then say that they want it every 3 weeks or a month. Yesterday I did a work of removing leaves after I spent on gasoline, bags of leaves plus my time which was 3 hours the person said that the service was badly done blah blah blah... no one gave me back the money for gasoline or the expense of equipment much less my time. You write to the customers and they don't answer, yesterday I got a customer who tells me: "go away I don't want you here." Very bad for business. A star is a lot for the horrible

PROVIDERS BEWARE!!!
I’ve been using LawnStarter for a little over a month now, I have yet to be paid for ANYTHING literally not even a whole dollar only a penny into my account then back out to verify my bank account. The customer support is non existent. They dance around the issue and I’ve caught 2 different representatives in direct lies. They don’t communicate with each other at all and there’s no way they’ll transfer you to any type of management. They underbid just about everything, give zero f.$ks about what the term service area means. They will find mostly jobs outside of your service area and daft when you try to group lawns in the same area for the same day.

Prices are substantially low and as a provider, this hurts business. It’s good for filling in gaps in your schedule to help make something at least. You have to update the app everyday or every other day and it’s required so you can use the app and update later and that’s irritating. You have to wait a week to get paid unlike others which can be same day pay. They’re paying about 40-50% less of what the average pay is for lawn care in my area. Don’t plan on making a living off this app. Maybe get your phone bill paid or lunch money but have another main income.

Don’t trust it
I’m a solo operator who has openings after unfortunately losing several clients to passing on. I decided to give this app a try to see about filling up my schedule more. Upon initial check it showed several jobs in my area. I finished signing up and miraculously all jobs disappeared and not a single one has been posted again in my area after a week. What’s more I’d they make you sign up for other services for payment etc and just collect your personal info and data. The email and number to my business receives nothing but spam now. App needs removed

Lawnstarter
Lawnstarter is a good platform. I have only a few issues 1. They took the payout amount off of the work orders so you don’t know what your making per customer once you claim the job unless you get the laptop out or wait for the weekly email. 2 now they have removed customer reviews 3 the rating system has been jacked up.

Good start for new providers
As a new provider I had no idea of how much an art form that lawn care is. It takes skill to make a yard look nice. That lesson I learned the hard way after scalping a couple with my weed eater. For me Lawnstarter is like paid on the job training. Not only do I get hands on experience with the tools of the trade but I have also learned the importance of route density. The payout may not be top tier but they provide the jobs so it’s only fair to compensate Lawnstarter

HORRIBLE APP/LOW PAYOUTS/UNFAIR TREATMENT
NOT a good app at all. Their payouts are WAY too low and their client-base are the cheaper customers looking to pay less for more. Many lawns are overgrown when you arrive. LAWNSTARTER marks up the price way too high and offers the contractors way too little! If you enjoy mowing lawns 6+ inches long for 2-3 hours for a total of $35…THIS IS FOR YOU! They rip off an extra $1.50 each job for damage “insurance”, yet there is a $5,000 deductible (means YOU pay the damage costs up to $5k before they cover anything). You’re losing $1.50 every call for THAT coverage??? Customer service is a JOKE. A bunch of kids reading scripts. YOU the contractor get fined for every little thing. This “tier” rating is horrible. If you are low tier, don’t expect to get ANY leads and/or only get the PROBLEM ones (overgrown grass for $35). The app has been DELETED and I’ll never endorse them again.

Good service with opportunity for improvement
The service is an awesome way to get started, and provides all the necessary information to provide great service. The main problem I see and have expressed is pricing jobs to low and inconsistent. Corner lots and larger lots which requires more time and work are price at the same price as smaller lots. This does not take care of or provides adequate compensation to the ones providing the actual service.

Starting a lawn service
Lawn starter is great help to get you off you feet for you business lawn care or just mowing. However they system is based on popularity points and how the customer feels about you for the day or should I say the cut!! They get the top dollar for the service and give the low end. Now you are insured while cutting the property, but some properties or lied about and when you get to them there bigger longer and have high grass and the app expects you to still cut it.!! LawnStarter has help me and also failed me!!

Has gone downhill.
Started off as a great app, but the policies that have been put in place over the year have really made it unenjoyable. Customers will often skip a service or two and when you go to mow it is well over the 9 inch long grass fee. Due to the new rules you can’t charge a long grass fee if it has been serviced with in the month, and the pro support does absolutely nothing to help. There have been a few other issues but this is the most aggravating.

LawnStarter is a great company to partner with. Their no hassle approach on the app less pictures having to be taking to get work completed, gives the contractor more time to get more work done. Only issue I have is 35% of the jobs are under priced from the contractors perspective. An the 22% they take from every payout + upscale!!! Terrible deployment of a good idea...
The concept is good but the implementation is terrible. The payouts are not worth the work, any contractor worth his/her salt wouldn’t touch this with a 10 foot pole. The incessant reminders (email, text, AND app notifications) dont stop even after you have repeatedly declined a job. The unsubscribe “feature” does not unsubscribe you from anything, and keeps notifying you of the same job over and over and over. I don’t know any professional contractors who are willing to pull up to a property with 40k worth of equipment, only to be expected to do the job for $25 bucks. The customer service is completely non-existent, nobody picks up the phone, ever. Complete waste of time, can’t even get a lead in my service area.

Only good for biweekly jobs that aren’t worth my time.
I’ll give it to them that they constantly sent me jobs but it was only biweekly in the inner city that I wasn’t looking for. Called support one time and they immediately answered so that’s all the rating is. Advertising yourself and word of mouth is all you need.

Ok app!!
It’s a good app just bids jobs to low for size of lots then when you ask customers to increase price a few bucks they canceled because they want the cheap price app gave them when they want extras included in the service. Some customers are ok with the price increase an understand an continue their service besides low biding it’s a good app
